5 comments about A Weekend to Change Your Life: Find Your Authentic Self After a Lifetime of Being All Things to All People.
  1. Joan Anderson shares her wealth of experiences to gain a different lifestyle for one's self.
The book provides many useful stages to work through that sets your life into a pathway that pleases yourself and breaking away from being a people pleaser & forgetting what one's own dreams are.
The book does this in a pleasing gentle way & it is also where many woman are after family have grown & one's life's work seems to be over but we ask what now ...
Loved A Year by The Sea by the same author.

  2. I'm not a big fan of self-help books and am pretty cautious in my response to readings like this. A Weekend to Change Your Life, however is one of the true exceptions I've had the pleasure to read. The author is not preaching or in any way a know-it-all but she challenges very basic feelings and emotions in each and every person, whether we admit to them or not. And in going thru her exercises we are drawn into trying her suggestions and digging deep into our souls to see why we do so many of the things we do. The author has deep, deep respect for the uniqueness and value of every emotion and individual. She doesn't judge or ever try to criticize or downgrade. She teaches us acceptance and deeper understanding of whatever is causing our innermost private thoughts and feelings. It's truly a treasure and one that I highly recommend for every woman, no matter how old. I readily admit that one of the feelings I deal with most often is that "I'm too old; I'm 73 years old; I'd like to do this or that, but I don't have enough time left to start now, etc." Nonsense! Joan Anderson has prompted me to try, even at this ripe old age to at the very least try and to live each day left to maximum fullillment and satisfaction. !

  3. Joan Anderson, the gifted author of "A year by the sea" and "A walk on the beach" has written yet another book that speaks to the heart and soul of every woman who has reached a crossroads in her life.

This book is an outline of her weekend retreats at Cape Cod. In it she shares not only her program and thoughts, but also the experiences of participants and exercises that the reader can do at home. The exercises are more than thought provoking (never ending crossroads), revealing (the calendar exercise), and renewing (The self and others circle). They are indeed the road map back to your true and authentic self.

If you have gone through a divorce, death, loss of job, empty nest, or are just wondering 'what next?' this book is an invaluable compass to aid you in seeing options and new directions. To quote her dear friend Joan Erickson, "We do not receive wisdom - we discover it for ourselves after a journey through the wilderness."

Joan Anderson does not seek to give you the answers, but to help you discover the questions within yourself. Her writing is encouraging, honest and perhaps most important, heartfelt. You can't go wrong buying this book for yourself or as a gift for a friend.

  4. I enjoy Joan Anderson's books. I felt A Year by the Seas was the better of these two books.

  5. Definitely on my recommended book list. A must read for women in business.

5 comments about Starbright--Meditations for Children.
  1. I was looking to relax my child before bed and found this to be the best one I found. Very relaxing, imaginative and well written. Gets my daughter set in a good dream mode.

  2. I had no idea that my kids age 3 and 4 would love meditating this much I am very happy that I purchased this book along with two of her other meditation books. Moonbeam and Earthlight are also fabulous!

  3. This book and the others by Maureen Garth have been a blessing in our home. My 6 and 8 year old love them. In fact, I'm not sure they can sleep without them anymore! They are quick to jump in bed and settle down so that they are able to find out what happens in their garden each night. Their imaginations are growing and they are relaxing. Both kids have a history of terrible nightmares and neither have mentioned a single bad dream since we begun these exercises. I'm growing in confidence, too! The other night, I actually made up my own garden story and it's been one of their favorite's so far!

For those of you who are concerned about compromising your faith with these books, don't be! On the contrary, the focus on light, growing your heart in love for all people and feeling safe with a guardian angel are all wonderful images and fall right in line with our Christian faith.

I love these books and I have even begun buying them for friends. What a great gift to give a child: the gift of peace, relaxation, imagination and a good night's sleep filled with pleasant dreams.

  4. Before obtaining Starbright, my 6 year old has asked about fires and bombs (school fire drills & TV news)before being tucked into bed. He now insists on being read about the gardens so he doesn't have bad dreams. In the morning, he relates more and more positive dreams.

I am relieved to have his fears reduced in a few short weeks. I think the "sequel" Moonbeam is next on our list. Thank you Ms. Garth.

  5. I purchased this book for my 9 year old daughter who was trying to make the transition back to school this past fall. She had become very anxious and I wanted a way to help her calm herself before she went to bed each night. Together we read the stories and she just loved them. She even brought the book to school to share with her teacher and fourth grade classmates, who loved it too. I really feel it has helped her! (Since then we have given even copies as birhtday gifts with handmade beaded bookmarks.) Overall, Big Hit!

5 comments about I Can't Get over It: A Handbook for Trauma Survivors.
  1. This is the first book I attempted to read after being diagnosed with PTSD. It helped me understand my unexplainable behavior and symtoms and helped me come to terms that I was not "crazy, as perceived, but simply having a normal reaction to an abnormal trauma. I would love to meet the author sometime. I HIGHLY recommenend this book.

  2. Wonderful book! I find it a very helpful book! I am using the book as part of my therapy with my therapist. The book explains alot to me the questions that I had about myself after being raped. I recommend the book to persons who needs to overcome trauma.

  3. I was not able to finish reading this book. While it's highly rated at Amazon, which was an influence in my buying it, I did not find it helpful. In the beginning, it reiterated exercises I've been aware of for many years. I did not feel comfortable doing any of the exercises past the first half of the book, so I'd not recommend it to people with SEVERE and CHRONIC PTSD or as a substitute for counseling.

  4. One of the most comprehensive books I've yet to read for those suffering post traumatic stress, as well as for therapists and other professionals. Matsakis speaks clearly about PTSD, what it is, and how it affects different individuals. Her explanations of the confusion and suffering felt by victims is a breath of fresh air, and she takes the reader, step by step, through the symptoms, the effects on the body, the triggers, and then the healing process. When I began the book, I had a lot of questions that I no longer had when I finished. Personally, I feel the exercises she provides are good but should be done under the supervision of a therapist, but they are well laid out and easy to follow.

For those who want to understand this illness and learn where the hope lies, I highly recommend this book.

  5. I am very sympathetic to those with ptsd but found the style and tone of this book to be such that i had to put it down.

  1. I have seen complaints about how the book only seems geared towards parents....and many of the devotions really are. Before we had our daughter (that took a long time due to infertility) those days were kind of a downer for me....but to get around the topic I tried to view it as an "if I were a parent what would I want to do in this situation".
Now that I am a parent it is a non-issue....and regardless I just enjoy anytime that is mean't to draw myself and my husband closer to the Lord.

  2. Since we received this as a gift for our anniversary 5-6? years ago, we have given it as part of our wedding gift to LITERALLY EVERY MARRYING COUPLE we've known EVER SINCE. Our oldest of four daughters is 16 and she has begun reading it as a teaching tool for how to be a great mate and what to RIGHTFULLY expect from her mate as a Christian woman. I STILL READ THIS EVERY DAY, and I give it to friends of mine, men and women alike with a note in the front that encourages them to remember that Christ is to be first, our spouses second, and our children third.

  3. This devotional is great for married couples trying to find some sort of devotional they can do together as a couple. It's great for couples with and without children, but it does have quite a few devotions based on a family with children. You'll really enjoy it; it gets us talking about things we wouldn't otherwise talk about. And this is the place I got the best deal on it also!

  4. This book has helped my husband and I make time for a daily time of devotion and prayer. The devotions are short but they always make you think and are good conversation starters. Great book for busy married couples!

  5. I rated this devotional very high for the following 5 reasons:
    1. It brings my wife and I together in so many ways.
    2. It accurately delves into the Word of God and allows my wife and I to get into the topic and express our intimate and personal thoughts and feelings.
    3. It challenges both of us as parents, as a huband and as a wife.
    4. It allows us to see how eachother thinks and I have an opportunity to hear the things on the heart of my wife.
    5. Dennis and Barbara keep it real.

If you are looking for a good devotional for you are your wife, If you are looking to improve your listening and communication skills in your marriage then I encourage you to give this devotional a shot. However, I must warn you this devotional is not for the CHARISMATIC Christian. This devotional is for those that are daily LIVING FOR CHRIST!

5 comments about What I Know Now: Letters to My Younger Self.
  1. Loved reading these letters and learning about the lives of those who wrote them! Excellent and inspiring!

  2. We should all take the time to reflect on what we have learned through the years. And reminisce about how naive we once were. It took courage for these women to share their most vulnerable moment and I thank them for that. Their stories have helped me in accept the beauty of maturing and accepting who I have become. I have given this book as a gift to several girlfriends for their birthdays. I just wish I would have had the foresight to read a book like this when I was younger...but then again, I may not have really understood it.

  3. I read this book and it was comforting and validating for me to know that so many famous women have experienced many of life's struggles that us everyday women are challenged with. Many of the letters give important insights and inspirational advice in an honest, approachable and down-to-earth manner. I will definately refer back to many of the letters in this book that struck a cord with me. Great advice for all women of all ages, in all walk of life.

  4. some authors included in this work give you enough background to understand why they advise their younger selves the way they do. Other authors are just vague. It's nice to compare their experiences and roads to self-development to mine and for that reason it's a good read to keep on the shelf; besides the awesome women included in it.

  5. Excellent book to help guide women that it's okay to make mistakes in your younger years.

5 comments about Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace.
  1. "Eliminating Stress, Finding Inner Peace" must be one of the best relaxation/self-healing CDs. Since I started using it I stopped smoking, became a vegan, stopped drinking coffee and started exercising daily. I use this CD 3-4 times a week and I wouldn't want to be without it. Don't hesitate to purchase it!

  2. i found the book to be good, but the things spoken about where at least, for me, obvious...things i already knew about stress and how to eliminate it; but, the cd which comes with the book makes the book worth buying

  3. Although the book was a quick read, it was packed with solid information. The CD was even better! To date, I have yet to go as deep in my meditation practice as with Dr. Weiss's CD. This little package is a gem and worth every cent. Enjoy!

  4. This was easy to read and very helpful. The CD was relaxing. I will have to use it a number of times before I get the maximum benefit. Like everything else, you get what you put into it. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to eliminate stress and find inner peace. However, this book will provide you with all of the information and tools you need to do it, but YOU have to do it! A very pleasant read.

  5. This book helps bring the day to day stressors of life into a healthy perspective. It explains stress in a concrete manner and includes ways to increase strategies to handle stress and find inner peace. The CD with the meditation/guided imagery is extremely relaxing and helpful.

5 comments about Creative Visualization Meditations (Gawain, Shakti).
  1. The case was broken in shipment because the CD had not been packed properly/at all. It was shipped in a manila envelope with no cushion or bubble wrap whatsoever.

  2. I recommend Shakti Gawains Creative Visulization Meditation CD. It's
certainly not the best one out there, but is good for beginners. This 60 minute CD is much better then the original book on tape she did years ago. On that tape, she read very fast, she sounded unenthusiastic, the meditations were rushed, so I couldn't get much out of it.

Here, she reads slow and her voice is calm and relaxing. The added music is pretty good, however I would have wanted a little more time spent with her guidance through the creative visualizations.

  3. I was looking for a creative visualization meditation program that I could listen to in the mornings when I woke up. There are several short meditations on this CD that are perfect for that and don't take much time. What I also like is the 30-minute relaxation & goal visualization session that I can listen to at night before bed. I regularly have this CD is my car when I need to relax or motivate myself with positive thoughts. The CD is 60 minutes long, but you can easily listen to it in short pieces if you don't have an hour to spare.

  4. The power we have over ourselves usng creative visualization is infinite. This was easy, relaxing and perfect for people who want to tap into themselves. One of the best purchases ive made.

  5. This is a great CD as an introduction to meditation and how to do it.
Also, I use it to calm my self and stop a lot of the inner chatter that goes on. I highly recommend it.

  1. OSHO's insightful writing will quench the thirsty and open-minded. His words resonate deep truths that leave me laughing outloud. Love & highly recommend this priceless book. His take on football - Thank God finally - someone puts in writing my exact sentiments and brings it home beautifully. Great Job OSHO!

  2. Great insights about Love (Unconditional Love better said) that makes you recondition the meaning of love as that it has been opposed on all of us by the society. Love without attachments.

  3. This book is a must have for any human being that wants to learn what it is to have an authentic relationship with oneself and others.

  4. Simply put, this book is a "must read" for anyone who meditates with the hope of achieving enlightenment. It contains wisdom about your spiritual energy that you will not find anywhere else (except in Sex Matters, also by OSHO). If you have ever felt an insatiable craving inside, a void that cannot be filled, a deep yearning for love, then this book will help you make sense of that feeling and find the way "to the other shore," to joy and fulfillment. Read it, cherish it.

  5. I loved this book and passed it on to my younger brother plus an ex-boyfriend and recommended it to my sister because it is such an amazing book. It is indeed true that you cannot truly love another human being until you are free and are comfortable and confident in your aloneness. All I can say is that this book just confirmed what I already believed.

  1. Excellent, down to eath, reasonable, rational, intelligent. You can't go wrong. Great resource for parents and older teens alike. Yep, purchased it to make sure I was giving my teen accurate info and had no problem giving him the book to read on his own. I highly recommend it. Easy and enjoyable to read. Good advice on teaching kids as well as anything else you might want to know.

  2. To the invisible fiend that can only dream of the real thing but that's all it can ever be is a dream(well, as far as real women is concerned). We, The Main Man has took it upon ourselves to give you this reference on the activity. The activity that millions of people love to do. But only several can dream of doing, that's you buddy.

The Main Man made the mistake of issuing the equipment but not the instructions. Basic human error. The invisible fiend made this very obvious by attacking The Main Man once again. Settle down buddy where there's a will there's a way. And The Main Man is showing you the way. Now The Main Man cannot speak of the content due to the fact this is way beneath us. Nor can The Main Man show and tell because your mum just doesn't fit the criteria of sexy ladies for The Main Man. Between you and us, 80 year old women who are bed ridden just isn't The Main Man's thing.

So take this little instruction guide, that The Main Man so loving went out of the way to get for you. Grab your new Carmen doll and get busy. Let us know how you feel about it. We, The Main Man eagerly await to hear how much you enjoy our latest gift. Toodles!

  3. Ruth Westheimer has helped pioneer media psychology as a psychosexual therapist. Her book covers a wide array of topics on sex from the basics to maintaining healthy sexuality. The book is well written, non-judgmental, easy to read and informative.

  4. Kindly written, informative, comprehensive, neutral, useful. Everyone should own a copy of this book. Even the "experts"!
