5 comments about All Is Forgiven, Move On: Our Lady of Weight Loss's 101 Fat-Burning Steps on Your Journey to Sveltesville.
  1. I am in the middle of this book and I can't put it down. I am enjoying it so much, I just ordered her first book as well.

  2. This is a must-read for those who want a fresh, new perspective on weight-loss and "permanent fat removal"! I recommend it all who are looking for a new way to love ones self.

  3. Janice Taylor is simply delightful! She is cheerful, creative, and super-spirited about her work...and all of this comes across in her writing. There is no way to look at, listen to, or read Janice Taylor and be unhappy. No way! I am not on a personal quest for weight loss but "All is Forgiven", I have discovered, encompasses so much more - it's about renewing your outlook on life, your journey and, most of all, your esteem. It is the type of book that I like to take a little bite out of everyday - just for a boost of inspiration or a little yummy food for thought. The art work (graphics as well as Janice's artwork, present throughout the book) is an added boon. Even if I'm not reading, it's fun to just peruse the pictures, marvel at Janice's art, and enjoy how beautifully formatted the book is. If you are battling with your weight however, as many of us are, this book is a MUST READ before you even THINK about starting another diet! Everything about "All is Forgiven" will make you feel good, and better about what might have seemed an impossible journey to "Sveltsville." Sometimes you simply need a change of perspective :-)

  4. I love this book. Janice is inspiring and funny and the artwork is wonderful. Very cool! This book has kept me motivated as I am doing my own "permanent fat removal." It's working. Her approach is unique and completely different from "diet" books. It is inspiring and offers a new way of looking at the whole "body image" thing. I get so caught up in the fun and cool way she has of thinking about food and removing fat permanently that I am losing weight without the struggle. It is a wonderful way to think about caring for yourself. I highly recommend this book!

  5. This book was fun to read, quick to read and super to re-read when I need a little extra motivation in my quest for healthy eating.

5 comments about Every Monday Matters: 52 Ways to Make a Difference.
  1. On the back cover of this Gen X/Y book is the question "Have you made today matter?" It's a great question because most of us do not even consider this in our daily lives. Then, at the end of the day, we are kept awake at night wondering how we can ever make a difference in a world where so much is wrong.

Well, fear not, because the creators and writers of www.everymondaymatters.com have put together a list of 52 activities you can do alone or with your friends and family that will be good for you, your community, and the world. Although some of the tasks require planning and cannot be completed in one day, that leaves no excuse for not beginning the process of a more time-consuming task (#45 Get involved with Foster Kids). Some are so simple they can be done right at your computer (#44 Use Online Bill Pay). Either way, there are enough activities to give anyone a year full of Mondays that matter. As a side issue, if you find, as I have, that there is an activity listed you have already completed, such as #21 Learn CPR, feel free to substitute your own ideas or visit their website for resources and other activities you can do.

Get ready to make a difference one Monday at a time. As a bonus, the book includes a CD-ROM with videos of people making a difference and special links to exclusive portions of their website. The book is even made with recycled materials.

I give this book 5 stars and urge every family to get a copy.

    [...]

  2. This book can revolutionize the way that we make a difference in this world. It's design, having all of us think of ways that we can help others in whatever capacity for whatever cause, opens up opportunities that traditional giving does not. It also calls for action on a weekly basis, not big overwhelming actions, just action. This is a great way to get people moving foward not just waiting for the right thing to come along. The suggested ways to help are also good because again it decreases the reasons for procrastinating.

  3. EMM provides practical legs to a heart and body that says, "I want to make a positive difference in the lives of others." Inspired by this book, a group of my friends are committed this year to monthly efforts to improve the lives of others in simple, concrete ways. Thank you Matt and Kelly for increasing awareness of how to be compassionate and caring.

  4. This is kaizen for social activists!

The concept of Every Monday Matters is very interesting. The whole idea is both altruistic and practical at the same time as each week of the year, or rather each Monday of the year, focuses on making the readers' lives, and the world around us all, a bit better. The outcome is getting many people to make small changes leverages the change in the world about us. Getting one person to improve their lives on a weekly basis will have a profound difference at the end of a year.

Though the book is no "casual reading" in that there is not any plot - it is more of an instruction manual, Every Monday Matters can make an interesting and engaging read. I would imagine that like me you will find yourself turning pages and saying "I can do that!" on many of the Monday entries. At the same time there are entries (Read a Book, No Nicotine, etc.) that have already been incorporated in my daily routine so that Monday would be empty on my schedule. I am sure that anyone who reads this book and is committed to change in the world would find entries of the same.

There is a bit of help in this book and from this book for everyone: Military veterans, old folk, children, homeless, animals and... You!

The whole purpose of Every Monday Matters it would seem has nothing to do with politics but it has everything to do with getting people involved in small steps, every week over an entire year. The idea that jumps off the page is that the lives of both the reader and the world around him will be altered by this book in a small way for an entire year.

If you are the type person who is into accessories in their books Every Monday Matters includes fifteen-minute bonus DVD providing two celebrity segments and some codes for special areas on the book's own website. I found it interesting but if you don't have Apple Quick Time you will have to download this first before watching the DVD section. If you aren't the type person who is in to that then don't worry, the book gets its points across sufficiently.

I have the feeling that if you do buy this book and read the whole thing from beginning to end you will have to either invoke its ideas into your life or put it away where you cannot see it - or it will be a constant reminder of what you should be doing!

Not me though. I have been adding Tasks in my Microsoft Outlook for every Monday in the year to come!

  5. I was excited about receiving this book but disappointed after reading it. Most of the weekly suggestions were things most responsible citzens already do. I thought they (suggestions) would be more challenging.
Biggest problem in ordering books sight unseen.

5 comments about Ethics For Addiction Professionals - Second Edition.
  1. I think that this is an excellent book that helps to provide the necessary guidance to an addiction professional. It would be great, if perhaps, there could be a workshop created by these individuals. I am recommending that a workshop be developed within my agency, and I will be using this book as my primary resource.

  2. Ethics is the most important aspect of the profession of addiction treatment. there are many out there that are harming their clients due to not practicing ethically. This book provides a framework for ethics of the field, however you must always continue to treat each client and situation in an individual and creative manner. Aspire to be the best and most ethical in all areas of your practice and you will be rewarded immensely. Recommended as an introduction to ethics.

2 comments about Living Fearlessly: Bringing Out Your Inner Soul Strength (How-to-Live Series) (How-to-Live Series).
  1. The editors at Self-Realization Fellowship have again produced a beautifully inspiring and motivating volume, drawing on some of the great yoga master's inimitable expressions of eternal truth. Drawing partly from talks published elsewhere (e.g., Man's Eternal Quest and The Divine Romance), this volume also includes life-empowering quotes that would otherwise have to be culled from the years of Yogananda's Self-Realization Lessons - plus a couple of other essays not elsewhere in print. In the latter category is a brilliant piece on faith, fearlessness, and the uprooting of unconscious fears.
In times of tremendous uncertainty and world-upheaval the reassurance offered by such pieces as "Ridding the Consciousness of Worry" and "Removing the Static of Fear" are real treasures. It is exquisitely comforting to read how Yogananda himself handled threats of economic disaster in "Finding Inner Assurance that God Is With You" - one more demonstration that he does not speak from abstract theory but from principles that he has tested and proven in his own life. He never tells you that it will be easy - only that the power of attunement with your soul will lead you to VICTORY over the most difficult challenges. His life and those of his advanced students are testimony to that truth.
Seldom has a tiny volume combined so effectively the most advanced concepts of psychology with the most divine insights into the power of faith. This is destined to become another classic of PRACTICAL SPIRITUALITY - perhaps rivaled only by his AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI (ISBN 0876120834 ) and THE LAW OF SUCCESS (ISBN 0876121504 )

  2. The Divine words of Paramahansa Yogananda delivers the one message that will set you free from fear and its debilitating effects in your life. That message is to recognize and connect fully to your divine source, to God, and how this omniscient presence is within you, at all times. It is within your heart and soul.
By focusing on how Divine Source is with you, in you, and as you at all times, you will come to discover that you are never alone.

A wonderful message is that fear is humankind's greatest enemy. By renewing your MIND, and focusing on your Divine heritage, you will come to trust that God is on your side. You will learn through this book that your circumstances are to draw you closer to your connection to Divine Source, so that you can follow your inner guidance, take proactive action in your life, and cast out fear completely.
In this way you will come to know the immense Divine creative power you do have, and how circumstances are merely passing occurrences. You, however, are eternal. Your creative capacity comes from your Divine connection to the greatest power in this Universe, and that is Love.

HIGHLY recommended if fear has been in your life, preventing you from claiming every Divine gift and experience you deserve. This book will help you cast out fear forever.

5 comments about E-Mail: A Write It Well Guide--How to Write and Manage E-Mail in the Workplace.
  1. As the author of an English reference guide/workbook, I think this book is exceptionally helpful to everyone needing to send out professional e-mails. E-mail has just about replaced informal memos and even reports. Therefore, we all need to learn how to convey the right tone, present a professional image, get our messages across clearly, learn the etiquette of e-mail, and avoid the pitfalls and hazards that e-mail technology poses. The author provides excellent, relevant examples and lays the material out in a logical, easy-to-understand fashion. I highly recommend it to individuals, HR departments, and training professionals.

  2. Like it or not, all of us are up to our eyeballs in emails everyday. We feel pressed for time yet need to write coherent emails that effectively communicate important information. This guide is an excellent resource on how to write readable emails that come to the point quickly without leaving any of the important stuff out. After going through the material, I recognized a lot of mistakes that our company frequently commits in our frequent volleys of emails with clients. I wish I would have had this book sooner! Thanks for cutting through the jungle for us, Write it Well!
    Thanks,
    Mike O'Quin

  3. This book is exactly what every e-mail should be (and so few are): clear, sensible and pointed. Compare the advice here to the emails you receive daily and you will agree that it is filled with uncommon good sense. You'll find yourself trying to figure out how to secretly get copies to your colleagues! Jim Knutsen, President, Boatz Knutsen Communications

  4. Like it or not, we live in a world of electronic communication. E-Mail: A Write It Well Guide is a practical and helpful guide for those who aren't totally familiar or comfortable with the medium as well as for those who use it routinely, but perhaps not always effectively or appropriately. Most important, it urges people to take their e-mail communication as seriously as their other written communication - and tells them how.

  5. If you're looking for a guide on writing e-mails in a business setting, look no further. This book covers every aspect of writing e-mails and even some tips on how to organize your e-mail as well. The chapters take you through different topics regarding e-mail and at the end of each chapter are some activities that you can do to help build your awareness of your e-mail writing skills and how examining the messages you receive from others can help improve your awareness of writing skills. This book is perfectly designed for training courses, since each chapter could be completed in one training session. I recommend this if you are looking to write e-mails as professionally as you can.

  1. Wish I had read this book when I was 15 years old. Even now it has been a blessing in my life! It is never too late to realize how special you are and to value the differences in each one of us. This book taught me so much about self value, self love, self esteem and consequently empowered me to create my own happiness and enjoy "la pura vida". I shared this blessing with my whole family by giving them a copy of this enlightening book.

  2. I enjoyed all the books put out by Don Miguel Ruiz, but this one was truly awesome. I've learned a lot about myself and the love God has for each and everyone of us. I've read this book three times and probably will read it again and again. I enjoyed his wisdom and insight.

  3. Es la mejor experiencia que he tenido para abrir mi corazon y dejar atras todos esos malos recuerdos y sentimientos que muchas veces sin querer o sin yo saber se oponian a mi felicidad.

  4. This is a great book , easy to read and it reall gets to the point fast.

4 comments about Ex-Free: 9 Keys To Freedom After Heartbreak.
  1. Even though my husband and I are separated and there were a lot of tears and heartache that led to the separation, thanks to the Keys in this book, I am not angry about the past anymore. It's miraculous, to not be angry, to be able to be in the moment because this book actually helped me to see why I loved him in the first place, our dreams together and how he made me think bigger than I ever had before I met him. Now he and I can be friends with a common respect and love for one another and very importantly, great parents to our 6 year old Luna. I am so grateful for the lessons and exercises in this book! I now know I am not the loser I thought I was for falling in love with my ex.

  2. Troy Byer is amazing at getting to the heart of what makes us tick. She takes what feels so complicated in our minds and hearts and helps us to transform the pain into something logical. Ex Free allows the reader to make sense of their own thoughts, emotions and actions thus leading them into a space of healing and forgiveness. Byer is truly gifted at helping people to move forward in their lives. Ex Free is a must read for anyone trying to move forward from a relationship. Troy Byer and Michael Beckwith from "The Secret" are true forces that are helping others to create the lives they want to live. I believe Byer will come to be known as one of the great authors of our time in helping others transform their lives.

  3. It happens to most of us once. A broken heart can come at any age and we're left feeling incomplete, unworthy, angry, confused and a cluster of other emotions. Troy Byer's Ex-Free breaks down what happened, why it happen and how to give it new meaning so that you are empowered by the impact. I highly recommend this book to anyone going through heartbreak. Troy will lift your spirit and bring YOU back to YOU. Her 9 keys to freedom unlock all doors to light while redefining your relationship with yourself.

  4. This book is so deeply connected to everything that makes up our lives...it provides insights that are applicable not only to romantic relationships, but also keys that can easily open the doors to other truths. This, to me, is its most precious value. Troy writes in a way that makes you feel you are being embraced by a close and dear friend. Her honesty about her self, her family and her experiences encourages the same honesty in your self. And, this is the path to freedom. "The purpose of our lives is to give birth to the best which is within us...it is important that you honestly acknolwedge all that you have experienced and all that you hoped to experience." Amen, sister, amen!!!

5 comments about Dynamic Laws of Healing.
  1. This book came back to me a few days away in my mind because I probably read this book over 10 years ago, it was given to me by a very close friend whom I look at to as a second mother and at the time she let me read the book, I was not in any pain or had any health problems. She was reading Ponder's book on Prosperity and let me read this one. Well needless to say, another disguised Blessing was in the making because even though I was not sick and usually if you are not going through sickness, people would probably not think to read this book. WRONG! There was a message in the book just for me. I recall reading the secion about the Power of Release and at the time I was in a 10 year relationship that I didn't know how to get out of. I felt trapped because he was emotionally abusing me, I was scared that if I left he was going to cause me problems. There was an affirmation in the Release section of Ponder's book that went like this "I fully and freely release ___________ out of my life, I loose and let go and let God and know that he has already answered my prayers". I toke to heart this affirmation and repeated this affirmation for several months believing in my heart that God would release this person from my life FULLY AND FREELY and behold a year later I was able to walk away from that relationship without a fear in my heart and when I said I was done, I was done. I know that me reading this book and believing in this affirmation is what allowed me to be able to do it. So I say this, listen to your spirit and God does use people to Bless us and to get messages across to us when we least expect it. Never would I have thought to buy a book about Healing when I am perfectly healthy, this is another example about how God works in our lives.

  2. I've been reading Catherine Ponder's work since the 70's and this book is a favorite. When I say "reading", I mean it. This book and the others that she's written, are books you will read through again and again, rereading your highlighted areas. Speaking of highlighting, be sure to have a couple handy, because you will use them as you read this book.

Not only is the message important, but her way of sharing information is important, too. She shares the stories of those people who have been helped by doing the simple things that this book suggests, and how they have been healed of their infirmities.

In addition to great advice, this book offers you strong, positive thoughts with which to fill your mind.

And yes, this book helped me tremendously to get over some childhood difficulties and to become a better and healthier person. This book, as well as all of Catherine Ponder's books are highly recommended.

  3. I found this book very interesting and I'm sure you will also find this book as interesting as I did. Give it a try.

  4. If I had known the author was a Christian minister who believes faith and positive thinking solve everything, I would never have bought (and returned)this book.

There's nothing new here. The book was first published in 1966 and "updated" in the 1980s. The information is old and repetitive.

If you are a devout Christian and want to hear "good news" from a minister, you might like this book. If you want real-life, updated information, you won't find it here.

  5. If you want to know more about your subc.I heartily recommend these CDs

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
    The Master Key System
Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World
    The Science of Getting Rich

5 comments about The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Destiny.
  1. I bought this book because it was recommended to me by someone I trust, but upon starting to read it, I was almost convinced I would return it. Among other things, the writing style is a mess, the voice of the narrator keeps shifting, the design with purple bars down the margins and purple boxes for different texts is irritating. However, I kept reading because I got caught up in the story of the Jane Attwood's trip to India, and I was intrigued about the Passion Test: a method to discover the 5 top things you are passionate about and how to achieve them in your life.

I found the test to be incredibly helpful to me. I am a woman in my mid-30s with a relatively successful career, but I feel that I have always been uncommitted to my profession. Taking the Passion Test helped me to clarify my goals, realize what I like and dislike about my job, and motivate me towards further career growth. It also helped me for personal growth as well, but it was really insight into my professional life that blew me away and made me decide that this is a book worth having around.

One of the things that I like best about this book is that it advocates an active approach to life. Other books that emphasize positive thinking seem to focus on patience and passive acceptance. As a goal-oriented person, I like to take the bull by the horns and set things in motion myself, not wait for them to happen. In that respect, this book is a great motivator.

This book takes as a point of departure the belief in a higher power. It is not for atheists or skeptics. It is regrettable that the negative reviews of this book are what people find the most helpful. Clearly, The Passion Test is not for everyone and could have done with more careful editing, but it is a book that will help people that are at a crossroads in their life, that need to make crucial decisions, and/or that need a little push to propel them towards the road to success.

  2. I received this as a recommendation from T. Harv Eker so I naturally was excited to read the book. I really wanted to believe but at the end I felt that it didn't really teach me anything. God bless this woman for her treks to India and wherever.. but it didn't really help to answer any deep questions for me.

If you are drawn to this book I believe there are certainly better options to help you find your path. Although this may speak differently to certain people.

  3. I should have read the other negative reviews before buying this book. The Passion Test is nothing more than making a list of 10 things you like and then whittling it down. No insight, no creativity, no help.

One thing is clear: The author's passion is marketing pap to the pseudo-spiritual seekers. Save your money.

  4. The Passion Test system of clarifying, prioritizing, deepening and aligning yourself with your dreams and purpose has been like a rocket launch for my life, propelling me forward into higher realms of peace, joy and fulfillment I have never known before. Following every step in the process, "working" and living the principles set forth in this powerful book has freed me to utilize the gifts I was given, and Be the person I was meant to be, on a whole new level. I am a counselor and motivational speaker and the Passion Test system has been a great tool in helping my client break free out of their own boxes and begin to fly! This book is not for everyone, only those who truly want to live a passionate, amazing life!

  5. This is a very easy read, with a very simple process that will absolutely help you define yourself. And if you think you have already done that, then this book is even more important for you. Creating clarity is the first step towards achieving anything.

Maybe, just maybe you will be one of the few that can not relate to this book, but is it worth the time and money to determine that for yourself? Absolutely. I have read countless books on success, leadership, spirituality and everything in between, this book is a must for anyone seeking to create more abundance, joy and peace in their lives.

  1. A boring book. If I would have known that he had an MBA from Harvard I would have reconsidered buying this book. I could have written this book in 20 pages, not to mention in a more entertaining fashion!!!

Do not buy this book. I would recommend a book written by Rick Pitino or another coach/successful athlete.

  2. Be sure you are not buying the miniature edition, unless that is what you want. I thought I was buying the regular book and was surprised to receive a miniature edition.

  3. This book did not meet my needs. I am having to teach this book at the university level, the miniature edition was not practical. Thank you.

  4. I would recommend to buy the complete unabridged book, not the miniature edition.

This book is the most famous title of Stephen R. Covey, a professor of Brigham Young University where he taught prior to the publication of this best-selling work. The audio version became the first non-fiction audio-book in U.S. publishing history to sell more than one million copies. Covey holds a BS degree in Business Administration from University of Utah in Salt Lake City, an MBA from Harvard University, and a Doctorate of Religious Education (DRE) in Mormon Church History and Doctrine from Brigham Young University. He also holds membership of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity.

This book is mainly about the time management (chapters 1, 2, 3, 7) and interpersonal relationships (chapters 4, 5, 6). The other time-management books, like "Getting Things Done" by David Allen and "Time Drive" by Gleb Arkhangelsky, frequently overlook the importance of interpersonal relationships in the time management.

Many of the ideas and much of the language of this book recast the content of the classic 1966 Peter F. Drucker book "The Effective Executive", wherein Drucker wrote: "Effectiveness, in other words, is a habit", and which includes a chapter called "First Things First".

The author consistently opposes "quick-fix" solutions to life or business problems and insists that changes in paradigm or mindset to align with natural principles provide the "true" source of solutions. Covey points out, for example, that the paradigm that produces short-term results in business inevitably leads to an inability to produce results for the long term. He calls this "killing the golden goose". Covey advocates balancing short- and long-term productive capacities as the most effective mindset for the businessperson.

Once again, I would recommend to buy the complete unabridged book, not the miniature edition.

  5. Like another reader, I somehow buyed this edition which is microscopical in size. There are two problems:

    1) I guess the text is abridged because the content is not very cohesive.
    2) As the book is so small, it is impossible to get a sense of the structure of the content.

If you had asked me right after reading the book what the 7 habits were, I wouldn't have been able to answer to you. And this hasn't changed since then. I guess I'll have to buy the unabridged standard format edition
