5 comments about The Fragrant Mind: Aromatherapy for Personality, Mind, Mood and Emotion.
- I have not had the good fortune to see a copy of Worwood's other books The Complete Guide to Essential Oils, which I understand is a bible of sorts, and Aromantics, whose title intrigues me very much. The Fragrant Mind is daring in the sense that it espouses a very unique theory, that of classifying personalities based on the scents they prefer. I may not necessarily totally agree with Worwood, and I have had difficulty figuring out what personality type I have based on her system, but this book is definitely interesting reading, especially if you're an aromatherapy fan like I am. Buy it if only to round out your aromatherapy library. You will find yourself picking it up from time and time to read up on her one-of-a-kind personality descriptions.
- This book gives a deeper understading of aromatherapy. Essential oils are much more than something you use for a certain symptom, and Valerie Ann Worwood gets that message through in her book.
- I have bought a few other books on Aromatherapy, over the years, which have given me an introduction into Aromatherapy. None of them compare to the books by Valerie Ann Worwood! I just bought her books "The Fragrant Mind" and "The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy", and they are wonderfully informative as well as a pleasure to read. I highly recommend both of these books for anyone who is interested in learning all that they can about Aromatherapy.
Focusing on "The Fragrant Mind", it is an amazing book! There is so much wonderful information, great recipes for various blends, a fun and enlightening look at the the different invdividual personality types and the different essential oils personality profiles, not to mention wonderful Quick Reference Charts.
This book does so much more than tell about a couple of uses for a few basic essential oils, it shows how essential oils can truly effect our emotional state. It also helps explain why we are drawn more to certain scents, and how our personality plays a big role in this. This book is definitely a must have!
- I like this book. I like that there are recipes for mixing essential oils for an effect. But I'd like to know more about how particular oils affect physical ailments and less about the author's categories of personalities.
- As a store owner I offer products for easing everyday life. I am always reading to further my knowledge on how to serve my customers better. The Fragrant Mind offers all kinds of information on how to mix certain scents and how our mood can change for the better by inhaling certain scents. This book is full of excellent information on aromatherapy and how our brains respond to it. This book is a MUST for the well seasoned or the newbies.

3 comments about The Annotated Arch: A Crash Course in the History Of Architecture.
- This book is jam-packed with information, presented in a fascinating, readable manner. The introductory chapter explains the elements of architecture which helps the reader appreciate the extraordinary buildings humans have created through the ages. The chronological progression of the rest of the book's chapters highlights major trends and developments in building styles and materials, demystifying the origins of many of today's structures. The book is just as easy to read straight through, as it zooms along through the history of architecture "from the Stone Age to the Space Age," as it is to locate a topic of particular interest and to start there. The glossary and extensive index make it easy to quickly learn about any one subject, building, or architect, and the numerous sidebars and timelines help the reader understand the context in which a building was created.
The beautiful pictures and interesting stories bring you right to the doorstep of humanity's greatest achievements. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever wondered why a building is considered special, and think it would be a terrific present as well. Enjoy!
- I am teaching Art History and AP Art History this year and this book is invaluable to my students and myself. The students do a seminar type class and this book has provided such a qick reference tool for them when they have one of the artworks to research and teach. The large oversized pages are excellent. This book, along with the Annotated Mona Lisa, are wonderful reviews before the AP test. I am so glad that I found this excellent quick reference tome.
- As an Art History major, and a former Architectural student, I was skeptical when I found this book required for my study abroad course on French Art and Architecture. Generally, I've found that books attempting to cover basic knowledge on such a broad topic are somewhat lacking. However, after the first chapter or two, I was pleasantly surprised with how much information was packed into this entry level architecture manual and how few instances occurred in which I wanted to edit or add to the content. I would certainly suggest this book for entry level courses or course which only require general knowledge of Architecture.

5 comments about Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul: Stories to Celebrate the Spirit of Courage, Caring and Community.
- I contributed a story to this book about my daughter's tender heart for others. I have always been proud of her desire to help others and Chicken Soup gave me the opportunity to share it with the world. This book made me proud to be an American and to be allowed to live in this wonderful country that cares about it's neighbors. This collection of stories will enlighten anyone to give unselfishly to the needy or to those who have less. What a great feeling inside to be a part of it all!
Denise Peebles
- I would recommend reading "Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul" to anyone who has a sincere interest in his fellowmen and possesses the capacity to relate to the needs, sorrows, and joys of others. I was impressed by the work's intent, format, and content. The selections are comprehensive and meaningful, offering a wide range of volunteer experiences for the information, delight, compassion, and consideration to the book's readers. Hopefully, this publication will encourage countless individuals to find the necessary reason and desire to give of their own time, talents, and hearts to those in need in our society. For others, it will provide an understanding of the wonderful gifts of volunteering for the volunteer.
- I am a volunteer my self at the my cities animal shelter. And I am going to let the president of the volunteers borrow it after I am done. I hope they make more about volunteering.
- 'Chicken Soup for the Volunteer's Soul' was well received by our volunteers, and it has also touch many people's hearts.
Marion Jones The Connecticut Institute for the Blind/Oak Hill
- I just finished "Chicken Soup for the Volunteer Soul," which is an excellent and inspirational book. Also, a few weeks ago, I went on a Social and Service Justice Retreat. Since reading this book, making the retreat, and other inevitable signs, I feel inspired to find a place to volunteer.

5 comments about The Greatest Manifestation Principle in the World.
- I have read so many other manifestation books, the secret, THink and Grow Rich, Florence Scovill Schinn, other authors and this book is by far the best. It explains in easy to use ways exactly how to connect to the univers and FEEL what it is we want to help us bring it into our lives.
I also felt this was the missing piece, feeling love then gratitude and letting it surrond you and encompase our life both internally and externally. I highly recommend this book to anyone it if far superior and gives us what the others miss.
- I have read a LOT of material about the Law of Attraction. I've even taken classes to become a Law of Attraction practitioner. And yet I still learned so much from The Greatest Manifestation Principle in the World. I could not put it down. I was so blown away by this profound book! It is so well written that I'm convinced it's divinely inspired. It is elegant in its simplicity, and it addresses the "elephant in the room," namely what everyone is thinking, but no one is bold enough to say out loud -- "I believe in the Law of Attraction, I've been using it, but IT'S JUST NOT WORKING FOR ME!"
This book showed me how LOA results are related to motive. I've used LOA so many times with almost zero results, but I saw it work for me BIG TIME in four separate instances in my life. In those four times, the spectacular results were fueled by the "greatest manifestation principle" of which this book speaks. I'm convinced that LOA works when we are in alignment with that principle. It can't help but work because the resulting state of being is our true nature.
- Kudos to Carnelian Sage for getting to the real "heart" of the matter, and revealing the true secret behind "The Secret" . . . the power of love. In this small but powerful book, Sage sheds light on several aspects of "The Secret" that many people find misleading. Plus, Sage takes a somewhat more traditionally spiritual approach to the process of manifestation, one that appeals to people like me who are comfortable using the word "God" to represent a higher, universal intelligence.
Steven Lane Taylor, author of Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide For Living Life In The Divine Flow
- The movie "The Secret" has opened up a new aspect to the realm of conscientiousness and understanding. This book is like the icing on the cake. It also opens up another dimension to the law of attraction that gives you the missing pieces of the puzzle. Even though this book is short, the information in this book is endless which means when you read it again and again you get even more info. A truly great book.
- This is one of the few books on Law of Attraction or "The Secret" that puts a newer spin on it. Most LoA afficianados that I know say that they are very motivated with the secret until it comes to the "spiritual" aspect of it. That's when they "gloss" over it. Carnelian Sage points out that the Spiritual aspect is the main essence of Law of Attraction. This is one of the few books that shares Biblical principals with new age principals.
To quote John Lennon: "All you need is Love".

5 comments about Psycho-Cybernetics.
- Outstanding book. I always enjoy re enforcing material from great books in an audio format Timeless advice for creating the life that you want and great tools to train the mind. A very solid scientific approach by Dr Maltz which has stood the test of time. Highly recommended!!!
- This is an updated version on an old classic. There are nine CD's in this set.I have still not gotten all the way through them. You will definately "get it" by the end.Shipping was fast and product was in good shape.
- I am in my mid 60's and have found this book and CD set a great help in helping me use my mind power. I wish I had know about it earlier in my life. I'm sharing it with my family and friends.
- Very good information in this audio set. I bought a couple copies and gave it to friends. I can't talk highly enough about it.
- This is great product for self improvement in any areas of your life. You can improve your speech, your relationship, make more money, start your business or at least start to live happier life! The price is absolutely no issue compare to what you will get. I did know a lot on this subject. Psycho-cybernetics helped me put all the scattered pieces together and even more. I started to smile more and now I wake up with a smile each and every day.
This will not solve your problems in a day or pay your bills but it will show you the way which can lead you to just that. And if you add believing in God you are all set. At the end you will understand that faith is actually the ultimate answer to everything.

5 comments about The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond.
- The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Midlife and Beyond is a must have reference and guide for women over fifty years old. This book contains articles, reference material, and practical exercise on every imaginable subject from the self image and emotions through the spiritual and the creative self to dealing with family and personal finances. Each of these sections comes complete with meaningful quotes, first hand accounts from other fifty plus women, and a series of questions that the reader can ask herself relating to these important subjects. This book also comes with a study guide.
The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Midlife and Beyond is extremely complete. This book covers every possible topic that the reader could ever have imagined and a few they probably never knew existed. More importantly though, this book also details a lot of those questions we'd all like to ask or those feelings that we could never feel comfortable enough to share with friends or family. Complete empowerment for women.
- I bought three books (this is one of them) to give as gifts from amazon. I was apprehensive they would not be on time for a golden wedding anniversary and 50th birthday of a close relative.
Firstly, the books where in mint condition with superb contents and apropos for the occasion (good guidance from brief descriptions by amazon) and best of all delivery was precise. Provided tracking was accurate with a couple of days to spare.
Amazon is still excellent in all aspect as I keep dealing with it! KUDOS!!!!
- I thought I had ordered the book but it seems the CD was ordered instead. Fortunately the author was kind enough to refund my money but I was very disappointed. After researching what had been the communication problem, the person who was circulating the CD as part of her lecture series was advertising the CD under the book title then stating she was replacing the book with the CD. I personally feel that is an inappropriate way to advertise her product and it should be done separately. I may reorder the book at a later date obviously through a different Amazon distributor.
- Thought-provoking, comprehensive, and chock full of pertinent information, Pamela Blair's book is an invaluable guide for the woman crossing over to midlife.
The reader can explore every aspect of what lies ahead for her as an older woman in 150 short essays that range from cultural attitudes and myths about aging women to such practical matters as health, finances, and relationships.
The author poses questions at the end of each essay to which the reader can respond to by journaling right in the book, making it a highly personal experience.
As an added bonus, a study guide is provided at the end of the book for women who wish to meet in discussion groups using The Next Fifty Years.
This book is the perfect companion for the woman who wants to better understand and enter in celebratory fashion midlife and beyond.
- Chloe Jon Paul
- I liked this workbook. It is comprehensive and divided into four sections: Thoughts, Cultural Attitudes and Myths about Women Aging; Who we are, Who and What We Live With; and Looking Forward. In her introduction, Blair suggests that we skip sections which do not apply to us. All of her short essays are followed by space in which to respond to questions such as "how does this feel?" or, more specifically, asking for a response to the issue addressed.
There were sections which did not pique my curiosity and I did read through those quickly. However, on a whole, the issues addressed are those which we, as women in the second half of life, should be thinking about. Her style gives us an opportunity for reflection, but does not ask us to spend hours thinking and writing. One could work through a section or even a few pages, put it down, pick it up and still follow the flow of the concepts.
Blair's book is intended to be used as a personal journal but could be used in a discussion/writing group following the study guide in the back or any other format deemed fitting for a group of women. It is well written researched and easy to follow.
The titles of her essays are enough to entice one to read. For example: Myths to Not Live By, Changing Tempo, Aging Can Be Fun? Ages and Stages and An Attitude of Gratitude. There is a long bibliography and a study guide. Her writing is pleasing and her flashes of humor and mini-stories about herself keep The Next Fifty Years from being a dry workbook. Blair feels that "we have an assignment to make clear our role in society: to inscribe the possibilities of age on the guideposts to the future."

5 comments about Five Good Minutes in the Evening: 100 Mindful Practices to Help You Unwind from the Day & Make the Most of Your Night (Five Good Minutes).
- I particularly liked "relax; you're home." it's so helpful to tend the transition between work and home and to consciously infuse my home life with peaceful choices. These simple, yet powerful practices invite stepping out of the forward rush of activity and thought. letting go, and appreciating the innate richness of the moment.
- I picked up this book thinking, "Ahhh, a small, fluffy, 'try this or try that' collection of tips in a book form. How.... splendid." I am always glad when I find out how wrong I was about a really valuable resource such as this one!
The book is broken into sections - an introduction which explains the premise of the book, the foundation - incredibly valuable section, and then four sections filled with exercises to try. The exercise sections include Leaving Work at Work, Enriching Your Home Life, Reconnecting with Yourself and Others, and Preparing for a Good Night's Rest.
The Foundation includes an explanation (and practice) of the basic Mindful breathing and Mindful listening techniques. This section alone is worth the investment of the book. You could read that over and over (and apply it, over and over) and change your life significantly.
The practices are icing on the cake, a wide menu of ideas to try out and see what works the best for you.
Highly recommended.
- I love this book. It offers great ways to stay calm & focused in just five minutes.
- What a great resource to have on the bedside table - or keep it in your car and carve out 5 minutes before shifting from work to home.
This book has a thorough introduction for those new to the practice of mindfulness. It is full of brief meditations, visualizations and exercises to help you leave work at work, enrich your home life, reconnect with self and others and preparing for a good night's rest. As a performance coach, I work with many elite competitors and business people who have trouble winding down at night or getting a good night's sleep. There are some gems in this book to help work through these challenges.
I personally found that after using the book for a short while, just seeing the book was enough to create a mental shift back to being truly present at home in the evening and not letting my mind get pulled back to work when I wanted to be giving my family my full attention. I love my family and I love my work. One of the keys to balancing this equation is being fully present wherever I am at the moment.
Highly recommended for all. Special recommendation as tool for working mothers who are under such high demands to switch from super woman at work to super mom upon walking in the front door at night.
Give yourself the gift of this book and 5 minutes each evening to learn how to better unwind and create more for yourself so you can take better care of those you love. You really can create big changes in a short amount of time. Who does not have or is not worth this type of 5 minute daily investment? If you really don't think so and won't do it for yourself, then do it for your family.

5 comments about Dr. Z on Scoring: How to Pick Up, Seduce and Hook Up with Hot Women.
- I've read these types of dating tips books before and figured I'd be dissapointed again. Boy, was I wrong. Dr. Z's book actually has some very useful and helpful information in it. It's a practical guide to meeting and picking up beautiful women. It's very easy to read, holds your interest and you breeze right through it. I highly recommend it.
- There are some really great tips on how to improve yourself and your image with the ladies.
- If your looking for a book that will allow you to truly how to approach, entertain and please women buy this book. It is filled with a lot of tips and pointers that men don't know. I think men go for the usual, straight forward approach only to crash and burn. Dr. Z does a great job to approach all aspects of dating - from the conversation starter to pleasing her later ;). Don't look at this purchase as a question to your inabilities with women - It is way more than that and the information is priceless!
- Most of the book seems to be a rehash of the pick-up books that recommend you just be yourself and not act creepy. This, of course, is one of the two major types of "how to pick up women" books. The other is the "outsmart 'em", "use them before they use you" contemptuous approach.
And telling men not to twitch, have bad breath or dirty clothing, etc., shouldn't be necessary. Really, that's just padding the book. If the answer is "It's not padding. You'd be surprised how many men don't follow these suggestions", I still think that someone who needs to be told this isn't going to be helped by the book. I can't imagine anyone saying, "I have to bathe before I go out to a bar? And wear clean clothes, too? Huh! I never knew that! Thank you, Dr. Z!"
Then there are the obvious observations, such as "Hot women tend to be more promiscuous than other women." I don't know if I agree with that, but, assuming it's correct, if someone is reading this book, it's because he wants to know HOW to approach women, not which ones to approach. It's only half an answer to say, "The hot women are the most likely to sleep with a man." The answer to that is, "And the hot women only want the hot men. So what am I supposed to do?"
What isn't a rehash, padding or obvious is just plain bad advice - and it isn't even consistent with the "just be yourself and don't act creepy, and women will like you" approach.
For example, she suggests you hang around women's shoe stores or clothing stores (that's creepy, isn't it? Unless you're going to use the transparent, "It's for my cousin/niece/sister" dodge).
She also recommends ploys such as waiting until you see an attractive woman check the price tag on a dress and, with a sad look on her face, put it back on the rack. Then you go over to her and buy her the dress! Now, that's setting a bad precedent. Not to mention that you might have to buy a lot of expensive dresses before you get a date out of it!
- This is an excellent, excellent book filled with funny and informative ways for "average" guys to date hot chicks...coming from a Playmate herself - Victoria Zdrok.
An easy and quick read, you'll get addicted from the very first page.
For the price, I highly recommend you pick up this book!
For me personally, it reaffirmed a lot of points and theories. Maybe that's why I decided to get into glamour photography! LOL!
Cheers, Simon!

5 comments about A Guide for Grown-ups: Essential Wisdom from the Collected Works of Antoine de Saint-Exupery.
- I read this last night and, while it is good and I'm glad I have it around, The Little Prince offers up MUCH more sage advice. However, I will say that I have not read Exupery's other works so I might be speaking hastily but I value my copy of the full text of The Little Prince much more.....
- "of your troubles that you find serenity."-from Wartime Writings 1939-1944
This small, 83 page book, Guide for Grown-ups, contains selected quotes from the several books and poems that Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote during his lifetime. The title for this review contains the only words found on page 72. I picked up this book the other day and this quote really spoke to me at this time in my life. I bought several of these with the intention of giving them out as gifts. I still have one left; the quotes are great ones to meditate on. Antoine de Saint-Exupery, writer of The Little Prince, was an aviator who served in the French Air Corps during WWII; he presumably died in 1944 during a mission flying over the Mediterranean. I haven't read any of his books, however, I do love this little one.
- This is a must read for all adults. There are so many explanations about emotions and the meaning of love and respect for other humans. After all, we are a disgusting species considering what we do to each other and what we do to ourselves. I am a better man for reading the book.
- This is a very tiny book of excerpts from the writings of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, who wrote THE LITTLE PRINCEbut also much more. The book is a great gift item. You wish it were much longer and that the quotations were cited, so that you know where to go to read the context. Beautifully produced and bound.
- This is an extremely short read. It took me 10 minutes, and I am a slow reader. The quotes have been pulled from Exupery's seven works. I am not crazy about Exupery's storytelling such as The Little Prince, but I can tell that he was a deep and caring thinker. Every now and then one of his observations is so artistically succinct and beautifully rendered that it bears restatement.
Here are my favorite quotes from this book:
"People haven't time to learn anything. They buy things ready-made in the stores. But since there are no stores where you can buy friends, people no longer have friends."
"Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking outward together in the same direction."
"People have forgotten this truth... But you musn't forget it. You become responsible forever for what you have tamed."
"A civilization is built on what is required of men, not on that which is provided for them."
"The tree is more than first a seed, then a stem, then a living trunk, and then a dead timber. The tree is a slow, enduring force straining to win the sky."
"What ought we be? That is the essential question, the question that concerns spirit and not intelligence. For spirit impregnates intelligence with the creation that is to come forth. And later, intelligence is brought to bed of creation."
"Experience will guide us to the rules. You cannot make rules precede practical experience."
"Life creates order, but order does not create life."
"One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eye."

5 comments about Putting Out of Your Mind.
- After reading Golf is Not a Game of Perfect by the same author I got this one and found it to be just as good which I rate as 5 stars *****
- So much of golf and golf instruction is mechanical, and justly so. Technique is very important in a complex action such as the full swing, and improper form can lead to both bad shots and injury.
In contrast, we have putting. The action on the ball is so slight and simple, mechanics themselves are important only at a very rudimentary level. Technique has more to do with guaging individual variances for a particular situation than it does moving from positions A to B to C.
This is why putting is called the "game within a game". It resembles so little of the rest of golf. It also makes it one of the most difficult for the mechanics oriented golfer to master.
What Rotella has done here is to lay out his observations of what the best putters in the game think and do, not with their stroke, but with their minds. Using examples of unusual putters like Locke, he points out that it is not the stroke itself that counts, but your confidence in it. Locke believed he was hooking the ball into the hole, when this was likely not the case. Still, his stroke, which cut across the ball, made him one of the best putters ever because he believed in it.
Rotella goes further, discussing people with more "technically sound" strokes, such as Faxon and Crenshaw. Crenshaw, in particular, is an interesting case. Rotella introduces a story in which Crenshaw, in one sentence, completely turns putting instruction on its head, much to the horror of a professional golf instructor. Again, what is important is what was in his mind, not what a slow-motion camera might reveal.
People frustrated with their putting may find good, solid information here on how to improve. The biggest test will be trying to apply it, which may be harder than any swing change you could imagine.
- Any golfer (including disc golfers) would benefit from this book. It's a very good book!
- Very straightforward and comensensical. Seems everything we read these days is about positive thinking. And it does work along with a good basic set up. I especially like his instruction that once you are over the ball, don't wait there and let negative thoughts sneak in. Go ahead and hit the ball. He says to trust your first instinct when you read a putt and I have always found that to be true. Can't wait to put his recommendations into play.
- Trust your first instinct when you hit the green, and learn to keep those negative thoughts at bay. This mental and technical guide to putting will help you improve your form.
