5 comments about Help Your Teenager Beat an Eating Disorder.
- This book gave my husband and I a much needed understanding of this complicated disease. Nothing else was as clear and helpful.
- I found this book extremely helpful. It is very easy to understand and provides key information to helping teenagers recover from eating disorders using a new approach that includes parents and other family members supporting strategies to recovery,
- Of the books I've read about eating disorders, this is probably the most informative one regarding explanations of what eating disorders are. This is an excellent resource for anyone with a young child or teenager with an eating disorder. I did find their advice about leaving your job to stay home with your child or going to their school to eat with them to be a bit impractical, but overall think the book is a valuable resource.
- This book is such a relief!! Unlike other books that go on and on about what eating disorders are and their causes and types and so on, this book actually tells you how to act. It tells you exactly how to deal with your teenager and how to behave around them.
- This book is an excellent resource for both parents and clinicians. I am a marriage and family therapist and often work with adolescents and their families. This book provides practical advice for parents and can be a helpful adjunct to family therapy with the eating disordered individual.

5 comments about The Science of Getting Rich: Attracting Financial Success through Creative Thought.
- Wallace Wattles wrote a great book in very simple language to assist us to create money. This book is very easy to read and understand and easy to apply in everyday life.
- helpful but basically same info given by tons of books including the Secret which by the way has never been a secret.
- This is a practical and ready to use book. The insight is great. This book summaries a lot of the knowledge I have been getting from different sources.
- I purchased this book as a referral from 'The Secret'. While the premise is similar, it is harder to follow as to the steps. I understand what it is saying, it is harder to put into practice from the way it is written.
- This book contains the very simple steps required to obtain everything your hearth desires; however simple; these steps are not easy and will demand hard work, dedication and an unwavering faith from anyone who decides to improve every aspect of his / her life. Read it and use it as described; it works.

5 comments about What I Know Now: Letters to My Younger Self.
- Loved reading these letters and learning about the lives of those who wrote them! Excellent and inspiring!
- We should all take the time to reflect on what we have learned through the years. And reminisce about how naive we once were. It took courage for these women to share their most vulnerable moment and I thank them for that. Their stories have helped me in accept the beauty of maturing and accepting who I have become. I have given this book as a gift to several girlfriends for their birthdays. I just wish I would have had the foresight to read a book like this when I was younger...but then again, I may not have really understood it.
- I read this book and it was comforting and validating for me to know that so many famous women have experienced many of life's struggles that us everyday women are challenged with. Many of the letters give important insights and inspirational advice in an honest, approachable and down-to-earth manner. I will definately refer back to many of the letters in this book that struck a cord with me. Great advice for all women of all ages, in all walk of life.
- some authors included in this work give you enough background to understand why they advise their younger selves the way they do. Other authors are just vague. It's nice to compare their experiences and roads to self-development to mine and for that reason it's a good read to keep on the shelf; besides the awesome women included in it.
- Excellent book to help guide women that it's okay to make mistakes in your younger years.

5 comments about Player's Handbook Volume 1 - Pickup and Seduction Secrets For Men Who Love Women & Sex (and Want More of Both).
- First of all, if you're looking for pickup lines or some kind of "magic tactic" that you simple need to memorize and repeat, word-for-word, this isn't your book. But those books don't work anyway...
This book is a STRATEGY guide. And what's in here DOES work.
This book is about getting your inner game together, so you don't need to recite canned scripts. It's about how you can become the guy that women are interested in. Do this stuff and the women will come to you.
As somebody who is always looking to improve himself, I've read a lot of books on this subject. Mostly, I've seen a lot of gimmicks, obviously catering to the 20-something crowd or those who are really shy and intimidated by women-- those who believe that their lives would be better, if they just had the "magic formula."
No offense to the guys on here who are in their 20s or shy. Been there. And I can speak from experience when I tell you that there is no magic formula.
You can dress up like Mystery or whoever else. And you may look the part, but you won't act it.
You can recite scripts, word-for-word, from some of these pickup manuals which claim to have the secret formula. But it's just a script. You'll sound like a telemarketer trying to scam somebody... "Hello. Many I speak to the man of the house? I have a deal for you."
You've got to sell yourself if you want to have success with meeting women. And that is more than just saying a pickup line. It's about changing who you are and making yourself better. And this book will help you do that.
Tommy Orlando works on your inner game, getting to the bottom of who you are and changing your from your core. He's the guy women want to be with; the guy who has his act together on every level. And this book as well as Player's Handbook Volume 2 - Advanced Pickup and Seduction Secrets For Men Who Love Women & Sex (and Want More of Both) show you how to do that.
In my opinion, this stuff isn't really about pickup at all. If I had a problem with this book, that's it. Tommy isn't really a pickup guy. He's somebody who does this thing, has his act together, and let's women come to him.
Don't think that because he lets women come to him that he's a natural. This is a guy who was going down one path, didn't like it, and decided to change his life. He's been through the trial and error or relationship management, so he knows what works and what doesn't. He can help you because WAS you. He's been there himself!
Let the women come to you. I love this approach!! And Tommy has totally helped me to find the "ease" in this whole thing.
Once you get it, and I'm confident you will, you'll see how desperate a lot of these seduction/pickup guys come off. And while they're in the club, calling each other funny names and hanging out with their wingmen, Tommy and guys just like him, are cleaning up.
- its very simple and too the point but if u know anything about anything its a insult. its good for some people but if u know anything relating to women this book is common sense.
- This book is full of common-sense stuff like keeping your room clean. No great insights or relevations. Mildly enteraining but not really useful. You are not going to learn any great secrets that are really going to boost your success with women. Save your money or take your chances on one of the other books on this subject.
- Saw another review on here about how this guy wished he had gotten this book in his 20s. Can't agree more!
I'm 35, single, never married. Date when I want, but never really had a "system." Never thought I needed one.
Saw Tommy Orlando's book on my friend's coffee table and laughed. Looked at the title and thought it was some kind of parody. Friend told me of his luck with using this stuff, so he let me take it home.
Let's just say I walked away with some great stuff. This thing has great advice on how to approach women just about everywhere. It works in clubs, but also on the street, in the bank, at the gym, and wherever else you hang out. It's not really a manual of "lines" or anything like that, but a "big concept" book that you'll be able to work with anywhere, once you understand the process.
Started using the stuff almost immediately and it's worked like a charm for me. I've got stuff set up every night the next 6 days and only took tonight off because I felt I needed to pace myself.
My only problem with this book is that is doesn't go into the depth that I'd like. However, I think it's a great primer and a quick read which will help you get a basic foundation. Had I first been exposed to a larger book, I might not have gotten this far, since I probably wouldn't have read it. Too intimidating to go though hundreds of pages, you know. I have other things to do!!
So at just a bit over 100 pages, this thing is amazing. You can read it in a couple of hours and know it front to back within a few days. Want to go out this weekend with big success? This is your book. Quick and easy with no junk.
Saw online that Tommy has some other stuff which goes more into depth. Looking forward to digging in and getting more from this guy.
Bottom line here, and something I want everybody to know, is that this stuff will work for guys of all ages. It's not just for 20-something college kids. Regarding age though-- I have been amazed at the women I have met using this stuff. Most are 25-28, which is just fine with me. Young enough to still be super hot, but old enough to where I can still relate to them. If you want to go younger, I'm sure you can though. God knows I've had a couple of 21 year olds who were all over me and if I can do it, anybody can.
- Everything in life has a set of rules. The Players handbook is a set of rules that all men should have. Like all rules you get to choose the ones to follow and the ones to break. Don't break to many or you will end up a Chump!

5 comments about Today Matters: 12 Daily Practices to Guarantee Tomorrow's Success (Maxwell, John C.).
- A friend loaned me this book by John Maxwell and after the first chapter, I put it down to go buy my own copy! I knew I needed to highlight the great, practical advice on how to live a balanced life that makes a difference. Leaders often forget to "feed themselves" and this book is definitely great food for thought! Maxwell's Daily Dozen will help you get a handle on your day to day living and in the process help you become a more effective and efficient leader. I have used his tenents in several motivational speeches in the last few months and in fact, used his book as a "speakers" gift at a recent conference. I highly recommend this book and the "plan for improvement" included in the last chapter!
- I recently attended a function that John Maxwell happened to be speaking at. He is a very engaging and insightful presenter. I had to pick up a copy of one of his books to hear more about what this guy had to say.
This is a well written and easy read. Anyone that reads this will come away with something. The book is well structured and I think it should be required reading for college students.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all of the life's pressures, this book will aid in prioritizing. John Maxwell lays out some very useful techniques for managing the clutter in your life. More importantly, this book suggests that "the things you do today, will be realized tomorrow." Just buy it.
- Very poorly written. There are more quotes from other authors than original writing. He may be writing under the guise of being a christian writer, his bigotry and hate are shine through all too clearly - definitely not true christian values.
- John Maxwell's work is always fresh, interesting and easy to apply to your daily life. We use his books and DVDs in our office library and for Lunch and Learn opportunities for our employees.
- If you are casting about - seeking a more reflective way to spend your time, Today Matters is a helpful guide. Maxwell combines a road map for goal-setting along with reflective fodder for how to approach your daily life. If you are seeking to make meaningful changes on how you spend your minutes or just need an anchor to help steady the waves of time, Today Matters is well worth the read.
Maxwell sets Today Matters up in a workbook fashion. Each chapter discusses a theme with significant real life examples followed with thought provoking questions and exercises. You can read the book straight through or use it as a text to foster change.
The book starts with an assessment of your current life habits benchmarking how attuned the reader is to the meaningful moments in his/her life. Maxwell provides inspiration and insight on how other individuals "make each day a masterpiece." While none of this is new to the seasoned professional who tries to cram everything into a busy life, the nuance comes from the approach and the habit changing concepts.
Maxwell adds creativity and thinking to the daily infrastructure. Americans, especially, are caught in "the doing" that some of the thinking and creating becomes, well, flabby. Maxwell's first chapter is titled, "Today Often Falls to Pieces - What is the Missing Piece?" While this title/question frames the search the book attempts to construct, it also points to the need to create a careful structure in our every day living so that we have the scaffolding that prevents meaningless muddles.
Each book chapter provides a specific area of focus that will lead to certain outcomes. Maxwell peppers the chapters with reinforcing quotes helping to mark the central tenet of the chapter. The chapter titles in their own rite serve as a prescriptive primer.

5 comments about My Descent Into Death: A Second Chance at Life.
- This is a must read book. I have shared with several friends and all have had a postive feedback from reading this book!
- First, I would like to say that I am so tired of the christians & the catholics with their bible opinions about this book. New age is not really new age it's old just as Gnostic Christianity/Jewish Mysticism are ancient religions. Nobody disrespects your religion don't disrespect others for their beliefs. BTW who wrote the bible? How does anyone know that is truly the word of god & not lies? Everyone knows that the bible has had texts taken out, manipulated texts, & things added in by the catholic church. So do not assume that you know the truth because really no one does & all religions will bring you to god. As for this book I loved it & I thought it was absolutely beautifully written. Truly inspiring!!!
- I loved this book. I think every human being should read this. Really let's you see what's important in life and what's not. This is a wonderful glimpse of the other side. It's easy to read and such an encouragement.
- Ok, I've read something like 10 NDE books as well as countless stories of them from the IANDS site, but this book is by far the best. If you're looking for something that is realistic, and doesn't lie to you about virtually everybody going to Heaven (now there's an inconvenient truth, eh?), then this is the book for you. Keep in mind that even Dannion Brinkley himself admits that he was wrong about telling everyone that there is nothing other than love and light in the afterlife. In his recent book (Secrets of the Light) he acknowledges that his experiences are not, and are not going to be, everyone's. I commend Dannion for coming to that realization and helping others to see it too. And it was this book that helped me do a 360 when I was in the midst of persecuting everything except new age fluff (*shakes head* all that time wasted, as a self-righteous fool indeed). All I search for is the truth, and I believe that can best be found in this book as well as some of Emanuel Swedenborg's writings. I know that in recent times Christianity has gotten a horrible rep, and the Inquisition is inexcusable we can all agree (see how no one is denying that, let's face it they were demons in sheep's clothing were they not?), however, you might possibly feel caught up in the lie that everything is fine and dandy in the new-age fluff world, which of course you know isn't true (visit your local ER on a Friday night or penitentiary on any day, as a reference for why that's a conclusion to be made) so I highly recommend this book for you. For all we really know, all those people "lying to you about hellfire" might have really cared about you and been trying to warn you about hell's salivating mouth that's waiting to give you your real welcome. And if you don't think that hell should exist then I must introduce you to some of my neighbors at once. In this book Jesus says that religion isn't the important thing it's people's hearts that matter, nice message and I very much agree with it, but let's face it it was Jesus Himself that saved this man and not just some multidimensional martian entity with a soft-spot for humankind. Recommended but not for the faint of heart, as I believe Mr. Storm really did experience the bowels of hell. My Descent Into Death, the book that changed me for the better and might change you too.
- Howard Storm's remarkable journey to the gates of hell and his subsequent rescue by Jesus which completely transformed his life is, by definition, a story of salvation as Christians understand it. From the moment he prays in that dark place of despair, and sees a light being coming towards him, he immediately identifies this being as Jesus. He spends time in the company of Jesus and the angels learning about God's nature and his plan for all of us, and the way we can accept God's will or turn from it. He asks questions, all of which are answered in a way consistent with the way God and His Son are revealed in scripture. Then there is the story of Howard after he returns to this life: he burst at the seams with joy at God's love for everyone and wanted to tell everyone about it. How is that not a Christian experience of deliverance and carrying the joyful message to everyone? The closing line of the book is "Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is the best friend you will ever have." Rest assured, this IS a Christian book.

5 comments about How to Love Yourself.
- I play this CD at night and it helps me fall asleep knowing that I love myself and tomorrow will be a new day.
- This is just a CD made from a motivational speaking engagement. I found the content lame and typical of any run-of-the-mill motivational speaker. No real insight and with bunch of hokey ideas like the 'The Secret'. I believe 'healthy' optimism is important. But some of these all-you-need-is-to-want-it type of teaching just encourages the I-want-it-now-without-hardwork culture this country is becoming.
- One Day She'll Darken: The Mysterious Beginnings of Fauna Hodel
I love myself..I love myself...Louise Hay is a master at sharing with us..how to do just that...when I am sharing with others...my past..I let them know..it was teachers like Louis Hay..that helped me love myself...I love myself..say it 200 0r 300 times a day...
- How to Love Yourself For those who never learned or have forgotten how to love themselves, Louise Hay provides some very practical considerations and guidance. I listen to this and other of her CD's regularly, and I am realizing their positive impact on how I think and belive, which in turn has had a positive impact on what I experience in my life.
- I never thought that I would give a one star review to a Louise Hay product as I love her work. But this 23 minutes CD is a total waste of money. It is interesting to note that many of the reviewers don't even review the CD, they talk about her other CD's. Here is why...
The description of this CD bears NO RESEMBLANCE TO WHAT YOU HEAR. I bought the AUDIBLE/ITUNES VERSION which is apparently the same as this one. This is NOT one of those great live Louise Hay lectures you were hoping to hear. I just picked up a copy at ITUNES and there is no lecture portion. It is about 18 minutes of hokey "love yourself" SONGS, yes someone SINGING about loving yourself. The piano then continues for about 2 minutes while Hay rattles off a few affirmations. Next is a very short meditation you could have dreamed up yourself. Go to a beach and listen to the waves and feel your toes in the sand. Imagine that the water is the ocean of abundance with plenty enough for everyone. See that you have a container to scoop up some. Look at what you are using to scoop it. This says something about your spiritual state. After stating several more times that there is enough for everyone, she suggests you forget the container and build a pipeline from the ocean to your home. We then hear another terrible song. This time it is done with a laughable calypso beat.
I was stunned that she would produce something this bad. If you are in the market for a short lecture that touches on issues of self love, try her "Dissolving Barriers" it is live and with the exception of some minor feedback a much better purchase. If you don't believe me and want to hear part of the first song for yourself, preview this product on ITUNES before you buy it. Also check out the review on Amazon's partner Audible.com. I bought several of her products there. I've listened to this and Dissolving Barriers. I hope none of the others are this bad.

5 comments about A Weekend to Change Your Life: Find Your Authentic Self After a Lifetime of Being All Things to All People.
- Joan Anderson shares her wealth of experiences to gain a different lifestyle for one's self.
The book provides many useful stages to work through that sets your life into a pathway that pleases yourself and breaking away from being a people pleaser & forgetting what one's own dreams are.
The book does this in a pleasing gentle way & it is also where many woman are after family have grown & one's life's work seems to be over but we ask what now ...
Loved A Year by The Sea by the same author.
- I'm not a big fan of self-help books and am pretty cautious in my response to readings like this. A Weekend to Change Your Life, however is one of the true exceptions I've had the pleasure to read. The author is not preaching or in any way a know-it-all but she challenges very basic feelings and emotions in each and every person, whether we admit to them or not. And in going thru her exercises we are drawn into trying her suggestions and digging deep into our souls to see why we do so many of the things we do. The author has deep, deep respect for the uniqueness and value of every emotion and individual. She doesn't judge or ever try to criticize or downgrade. She teaches us acceptance and deeper understanding of whatever is causing our innermost private thoughts and feelings. It's truly a treasure and one that I highly recommend for every woman, no matter how old. I readily admit that one of the feelings I deal with most often is that "I'm too old; I'm 73 years old; I'd like to do this or that, but I don't have enough time left to start now, etc." Nonsense! Joan Anderson has prompted me to try, even at this ripe old age to at the very least try and to live each day left to maximum fullillment and satisfaction. !
- Joan Anderson, the gifted author of "A year by the sea" and "A walk on the beach" has written yet another book that speaks to the heart and soul of every woman who has reached a crossroads in her life.
This book is an outline of her weekend retreats at Cape Cod. In it she shares not only her program and thoughts, but also the experiences of participants and exercises that the reader can do at home. The exercises are more than thought provoking (never ending crossroads), revealing (the calendar exercise), and renewing (The self and others circle). They are indeed the road map back to your true and authentic self.
If you have gone through a divorce, death, loss of job, empty nest, or are just wondering 'what next?' this book is an invaluable compass to aid you in seeing options and new directions. To quote her dear friend Joan Erickson, "We do not receive wisdom - we discover it for ourselves after a journey through the wilderness."
Joan Anderson does not seek to give you the answers, but to help you discover the questions within yourself. Her writing is encouraging, honest and perhaps most important, heartfelt. You can't go wrong buying this book for yourself or as a gift for a friend.
- I enjoy Joan Anderson's books. I felt A Year by the Seas was the better of these two books.
- Definitely on my recommended book list. A must read for women in business.

5 comments about Starbright--Meditations for Children.
- I was looking to relax my child before bed and found this to be the best one I found. Very relaxing, imaginative and well written. Gets my daughter set in a good dream mode.
- I had no idea that my kids age 3 and 4 would love meditating this much I am very happy that I purchased this book along with two of her other meditation books. Moonbeam and Earthlight are also fabulous!
- This book and the others by Maureen Garth have been a blessing in our home. My 6 and 8 year old love them. In fact, I'm not sure they can sleep without them anymore! They are quick to jump in bed and settle down so that they are able to find out what happens in their garden each night. Their imaginations are growing and they are relaxing. Both kids have a history of terrible nightmares and neither have mentioned a single bad dream since we begun these exercises. I'm growing in confidence, too! The other night, I actually made up my own garden story and it's been one of their favorite's so far!
For those of you who are concerned about compromising your faith with these books, don't be! On the contrary, the focus on light, growing your heart in love for all people and feeling safe with a guardian angel are all wonderful images and fall right in line with our Christian faith.
I love these books and I have even begun buying them for friends. What a great gift to give a child: the gift of peace, relaxation, imagination and a good night's sleep filled with pleasant dreams.
- Before obtaining Starbright, my 6 year old has asked about fires and bombs (school fire drills & TV news)before being tucked into bed. He now insists on being read about the gardens so he doesn't have bad dreams. In the morning, he relates more and more positive dreams.
I am relieved to have his fears reduced in a few short weeks. I think the "sequel" Moonbeam is next on our list. Thank you Ms. Garth.
- I purchased this book for my 9 year old daughter who was trying to make the transition back to school this past fall. She had become very anxious and I wanted a way to help her calm herself before she went to bed each night. Together we read the stories and she just loved them. She even brought the book to school to share with her teacher and fourth grade classmates, who loved it too. I really feel it has helped her! (Since then we have given even copies as birhtday gifts with handmade beaded bookmarks.) Overall, Big Hit!

5 comments about I Can't Get over It: A Handbook for Trauma Survivors.
- This is the first book I attempted to read after being diagnosed with PTSD. It helped me understand my unexplainable behavior and symtoms and helped me come to terms that I was not "crazy, as perceived, but simply having a normal reaction to an abnormal trauma. I would love to meet the author sometime. I HIGHLY recommenend this book.
-
Wonderful book! I find it a very helpful book! I am using the book as part of my therapy with my therapist. The book explains alot to me the questions that I had about myself after being raped. I recommend the book to persons who needs to overcome trauma.
- I was not able to finish reading this book. While it's highly rated at Amazon, which was an influence in my buying it, I did not find it helpful. In the beginning, it reiterated exercises I've been aware of for many years. I did not feel comfortable doing any of the exercises past the first half of the book, so I'd not recommend it to people with SEVERE and CHRONIC PTSD or as a substitute for counseling.
- One of the most comprehensive books I've yet to read for those suffering post traumatic stress, as well as for therapists and other professionals. Matsakis speaks clearly about PTSD, what it is, and how it affects different individuals. Her explanations of the confusion and suffering felt by victims is a breath of fresh air, and she takes the reader, step by step, through the symptoms, the effects on the body, the triggers, and then the healing process. When I began the book, I had a lot of questions that I no longer had when I finished. Personally, I feel the exercises she provides are good but should be done under the supervision of a therapist, but they are well laid out and easy to follow.
For those who want to understand this illness and learn where the hope lies, I highly recommend this book.
- I am very sympathetic to those with ptsd but found the style and tone of this book to be such that i had to put it down.
