5 comments about Each Day a New Beginning: Daily Meditations for Women.
  1. I love this book! It gives me daily inspiration and a positive attitude to start my day.

  2. I don't think we as human beings actually recognize the power of daily reading, meditation, and reflecting. Practicing these powerful principles allows us to remain mindful of the moment and reflect upon the deeper question in our lives. To devote ourself to a daily meditation and to journal on these quiet times is priceless and will certainly aid in the evolution of our soul. For me this practice has allowed an awakening to take place and opens my life up to all the opportunities that are available in this universe. Please give this practice a try! This book will help you in your journey of living and cultivating an active consciousness in your daily life.

Richard A. Singer Jr. Author Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds of the Past and Present.

  3. This is a good book for someone in alcohol recovery. I am a non-drinker and didn't like the references to "see your sponsor, etc." I recommend it for someone trying to go straight.

  4. I have been looking for this book for 2 years. I had one that is 17 years old. I was very surprised to fine one that was nice and new. I purchased and then bam, it was here by mail.

    Thanks so much,.

  5. If you are in a recovery program or are a student of A Course in Miracles, you will really enjoy this book. You might also wish to check out Daily Meditations for Practicing The Course by Karen Casey. I am on my third time through this book. I have been a student of "The Course" for quite a few years. It is quite a journey.

3 comments about Letters to Penthouse XXVIII: Threesomes, Foursomes, and Moresomes (Letters to Penthouse).
  1. This is great; I love this kind of stuff. I bought it for my husband's birthday, but I had to check it out and sample a few letters myself, but ended up reading them all. (Well I didn't want him to have something that was unsuitable) So his brand new book was a bit thumbed when he received it.

I find this multiple sex fascinating, although I don't think I would have the courage to suggest it to my husband, it does make fascinating reading. In some ways it is very voyeuristic, but hey, there's nothing wrong with that or lets face it, the erotic film industry would grind to a halt. I'm also sure that the people who pen these letters are really exhibitionists who enjoy their sexual antics being enjoyed by others, again there's nothing wrong with that either.

If you like erotica involving multiple sex have a look at 100 Percent Erotica by Suzie Van Aartman, or if you just like sex have a look at it anyway, it is extremely explicit and raunchy, you almost feel as though you are there watching.100 Percent Erotica But back to Penthouse, brilliant, if you enjoyed its predecessor you'll enjoy this one. Absolutely fascinating voyeurism.

  2. I have to admit that I absolutely love all the Penthouse books! They never, ever fail to please and this one is no exception. It has all the ultimate fantasies--threesomes and moresomes--that anyone could ever want. The detailing was supurb--and very sexy!!

I can't recommend this one enough to anyone who likes these books. It is very hard to find books of this nature and I have only ever found two others on this site---Erotica - My Dirty Thirties: Male/Female/Male and The Other Woman: A Story of Ménage à Trois.

There may be more and I will keep looking, but I am very pleased with these three choices!!

  3. When you can't even get past the second or third letter before being mildly nauseated, the book isn't even worth the paper it is written on. This one could get negative stars if it was possible.

5 comments about Making Peace with the Things in Your Life: Why Your Papers, Books, Clothes, and Other Possessions Keep Overwhelming You and What to Do About It.
  1. I really enjoyed reading this one. I actually have a better understanding of myself and my stuff after reading this book.

  2. As others have written,I too have read many, many, MANY clutter, organizing, packrat books. I still have so many, they have contributed to the clutter. This was one of the good ones. My problem is not organizing my stuff-- I want to get rid of it. Most books give you detailed file organizing and specific instructions. I wanted to know WHY I couldn't let go of so many things. This may not be everyone's problem, but it was mine. Once I understood why, it actually helped to get rid of them - not organize them.

  3. This is by far the most useful book on decluttering I've read. It gets right down into your heart and helps you sort out what you find there. It doesn't tell you what products to buy, but helps you understand what blips in your brain chemistry or psychology may be contributing to the clutter problem, and suggests specific strategies for dealing with the various reasons.

  4. I did not read the book entirely. From my brief scanning the book seems to be very informative and instructional-- a good guide.

  5. This book is the only book I've read that has had a permanent effect on decluttering for me. While it is a little tedious to get through, I discovered that upon finishing it, I was actually changing my habits. I had been in the midst of a house-wide declutter project, but it would certainly have crept back to the normal messy state of things if I hadn't changed my habits. It changed the little day to day ways I manage my things and changed my way of thinking. It was a little short on specific strategies, and was quite deficient on managing papers, reading materials and documents (was more focused on getting rid of/managing things), but I am still giving it 5 stars since it has had such a positive impact in my life.

5 comments about If..., Volume 2: (500 New Questions for the Game of Life).
  1. This book is great...I use it all the time to start conversations between me and my friends. These always turn out to be the most meaningful. I have learned so much about myself and others from this book. Check out the first one too!

  2. Well, IF you're one of those people who likes to question everything (like me) then this book is FOR you. It's an interesting game to play alone or with friends, and makes you question your own morale and ideals. It's great. A+ and INTERESTING to boot.

  3. This is the second book in the "If" series of questions. By now the answers should be easier but "If 2" provokes 500 more questions to contemplate each one a little deeper in theory than those contained in book one. Another great conversation piece and get-to-know-you type book.

  4. Similar to If.
Great book to share with someone special when trying to get to know each other better. Some questions will be a quick question and answer and others will turn into an hour conversation.

  5. Thought this might be fun for some kind of date game or parties. Weak stuff.

5 comments about The Emotion Code.
  1. I haven't finished The Emotion Code yet, but at the rate I'm going, I'll be done with it shortly. It's obvious how much time and research Dr. Nelson has put into this book, but it doesn't read like a boring journal article or preachy self-help title. The tone is genuine and heartfelt, and the message is one of healing. I highly recommend this book to ppl who have chronic pain or illness that lowers their quality of life and to anyone who is interested in furthering their spiritual and emotional development.

  2. So interesting and intriguing, I read the entire book cover to cover in one sitting. Dr. Nelson's theories on healing the body just make sense. Our bodies are intelligent and know what they need to be healthy, we just need to know how to ask them, and Dr. Nelson's techniques make it so simple. This book is written in an easy-to-understand format, with lots of real-life experiences and testimonials. Clearly, Dr. Nelson sincerely wants to help people heal themselves and others. I highly recommend this book.

  3. There is actually a book out there that will, quite possibly, save your life! It's called The Emotion Code and it's author is Dr. Bradley Nelson.

There have been few books that have left me with a feeling that there is so much more to this life than what meets the eye. In fact, I don't think I have been this excited about a book in years. That is why I felt it appropriate to put a book review on an indie music review site. After all, this book is about as indie as you can get.

Within the pages of The Emotion Code Dr. Nelson explains the inner workings of the subconscious mind and lays it bare for all to see. He writes simply so you, the readers, are not left scratching your heads in complete bewilderment. This book makes so much sense that it's scary. Why do we have phobias? Why does it seem certain people can't seem to loose weight? Why can't some people seem to ever find someone to love? Why are some people always sick and the doctors can never find the answers? The answers are all within The Emotion Code.

Dr. Nelson also teaches his readers and patients how to become healers themselves by releasing what are called Trapped Emotions - trapped emotions boil down to an emotional event in our lives that becomes trapped within our energy field/body - yes, we are all made of energy and all energy vibrates at different frequencies. We all send out our own unique frequencies. Have you ever felt like someone was staring at the back of your head so you turn around and someone is staring right at you? Yup, that's what I'm talking about. Well a small part of it anyway. Actually, everything that you can and can't see on this earth is made of energy. Sometimes our trapped emotions get caught in the energy field of our body and can have any number of effects on us. But don't worry, we can all learn how to release them through a technique called muscle testing, which has been around for a while now, but Dr. Bradley has come up with his own techniques. I have tried all of them and they all work (for me some are easier than others). Learning how to find my trapped emotions and release them has been one of the more eye opening experiences in my life, not to mention seeing other people have their emotions released from them is amazing. It can be a lot of fun to release these emotions and at the same time very spiritual.

Yes, there is a whole theory of medicine in this book. For the most part it's new (Dr. Nelson calls it "Future Medicine") but if we open our minds just a bit, this book can be totally change the lives of every living being on this planet. Every problem that occurs on this earth can be looked at in a totally different light once you have read, studied and understand The Emotion Code.

Some people, the narrow minded ones might call The Emotion Code "hokey", to those people I say, times are changing. We are learning new things everyday and this book and it's teaching could quite possibly lie in all of our future's. This book has positively affected so many people in my life that I am truly grateful for Dr. Bradley's life changing methods. There are numerous testimonials in The Emotion Code and on his site to give further street cred for his teachings.

If there is a "Must" book of the year, it's The Emotion Code! - BEAR

  4. I enjoyed the book very much. Learned lots. Have become involved in doing to Emotional Code. Very helpful. The free session was very helpful in understanding the procedure.

  5. The Emotion Code
As a chemical dependency counselor, this book is fascinating. I'm looking forward to learning the techniques for releasing trapped emotions as described in the book.

5 comments about Redesigning 50: The No-Plastic-Surgery Guide to 21st-Century Age Defiance.
  1. I have read quite a few books on nutrition and looking younger and I have to say Oz Garcia's Redesigning 50 is really one of the best on providing you with insight to how your nutrition is affecting your body and potentially leading you toward aging.

The Redesigning 50 program about which Oz Garcia writes is applicable to every person regardless of age. If you want to look great, feel great and live a long life this is a great read.

In Redesigning 50, Oz Garcia gives you the tools you need to improve your self physically, emotionally and mentally. It should not be considered a self-help book but a self-investment guide.

Redesigning 50 should be the next book you read.

I got a lot out of this book and my review definitely does not do the book the justice it deserves. If you want to live longer and look better then you should give Oz Garcia's Redesigning 50 a try.

Reading this book and following the program might be the best advice you ever take.

  2. This book is terrific. It deserves at least 7 stars. ******* Its explains in detail issues as diverse as blood tests the average Doctor doesn't even perform such as C-Reactive Protein, homocysteine, and fibrinogen. It also explains hormone therapy both synthetic and bioidentical. It explains nutraceuticals, mesotherapy, the whole world of non invasive and minimally invasive facial and skin rejuvenation such as Thermage, Carboxytherapy In typical Oz style he actually interviews the leading Doctors in each of their respective fields and they are the ones who provide much of the diverse information in the book. You would have to buy at least a dozen books ( one from each of the expert authors) to get all of that information in one place. Oh yes and there was a chapter on food the first one. Its astonishing and a terrible disservice that someone could write a review after reading only one chapter, clearly ignorant of the wealth of information in this book, admit it and Amazon actually posts it. There is no way that anyone, even a Doctor or a scientist, could know all of the information in this book because contributions were made by over 50 leading Doctors and companies.

  3. Oz Garcia has done a fabulous job with this book, especially since he has the experts giving their "slant" on each topic. I found it to be most informative in an "easy to understand" format. I carry it with me all the time as "reference".

    J.S.

  4. Garcia's new book is the anti aging bible for nutrition and supplements, hormone therapy and minimally invasive cosmetic surgery. One of the things you can count on from Oz is that he brings together the top experts from each field to speak. For example he brought in Dr Lionel Bissoon to talk about Mesotherpy and Park Ave Surgeon Dr Lisa Zdinak to explain Thermage, Carboxytherapy and other new technologies. Its simply a must read for anyone who wants to look and feel younger.

  5. Oz Garcia is and always has been way way ahead of the curve. His level of research and innovation is impressive. And he tells all in this book. Really! Everything anyone would need to know to feel and look 10 years younger is all here. I found page after page of the most up to date advice from Oz and from other five star specialists.

5 comments about Beyond Positive Thinking: A No-Nonsense Formula for Getting the Results You Want.
  1. I read this book years ago, applied it's techniques, and my life changed forever. I tripled my income, bought my first home, easily got into the best physical shape of my life, and have been applying the techniques and lessons in here ever since.

Since that time, I've re-read the book over and over during the years. The truth in here is timeless and powerful. Forget all the other books out there, I'm telling you, this is the real deal.

If you only read one book this year or next year, read this one. Dr. Anthony - Thank You!

Michael Z, Author of The Wisdom of the Rooms "A Year of Weekly Reflections"

  2. This has been one of the most influential books I have ever read--hands down. Every page is filled with clear, practical information that you can begin implementing today. I appreciate his writing style: concise and no nonsense. You won't find needless fluff here! If you're looking for a resource that describes powerful ways of applying the Law of Attraction in your life BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

  3. This book has an interesting history. In 1973 it was created as a series of audio cassettes; in 1988 turned into a book and in 2004 rewritten with the original title restored, a good title. (Anthony's publishers have foisted a couple of dumb titles on his books.) In my view this book is golden, the Mt. Everest of self-help books. Don't be fooled by its briefness because Anthony makes every sentence count and there is more than 30 years of experience behind it, which gives it clarity. True, some people have sniffed out the spirituality grounding this book and reacted like Dracula to the cross. The fundamentalists also, the "if Adam and Eve were not real people then the whole Bible is a lie" type of thinkers, won't like it. But that's their loss. The spirituality gives the book depth, power and roots which all the "no sweat, get rich quick" books lack. There is just one problem. Most people will read this book and go on to the next self-help, success book. But those who read it again and again and diligently, patiently, put its teaching into practice may find a miracle in their life. (I regret that Anthony keeps such a low profile and his life very private, since you always want to know an author you admire. Still, its the message that counts, not the credentials. Those who want to see where the ideas in this book came from can go to Anthony's "Ultimate Secrets of Total Self-Confidence," a hype title but a good book.

  4. Ask yourself, how many times can you say the same thing, give it a new title, and market it well? Sure, there are always a few new spins about a subject that have never been presented in exactly the same way before. But, the concept has been shared so many times, by so many authors for well over a century, that you should ask yorself, "what is it going to take to get the message and implement it"? Nothing new here in my opinion. Is it valuable? Sure for someone just taking their first step in the direction of conscious living! Save you money and save a few trees, the Planet could use yor help.

  5. I'm usually not into books on the Law of Attraction. I found "The Secret" kind of hokey, and the metaphysical explanation of how it worked, I think took away from the basic message of the film.

However, I found Robert Anthony's explanation of the LOA very practical. He does veer into metaphysical-sounding language at times, but Beyond Positive Thinking is by far the best description of the whole "like attracts like" principle that I've heard. In the book, he also covers:

*The "glitch" that keeps most people from attracting success into their lives, and even causes them to sabotage themselves, and what you can do to fix the glitch in yourself.

*How to identify and clear out negative beliefs about money and financial success.

*How to set "goal intentions", as well as affirmations and visualizations to move you in the direction of the things you want in life.

It's a short read, but Dr. Anthony manages to cover a LOT of stuff in here. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who's read or listened to other self-improvement programs, but finds themselves still struggling to change their circumstances. But, like anything else, you'll only see results with this one *if you use it*!

5 comments about Art of Living: The Classical Mannual on Virtue, Happiness, and Effectiveness (Plus).
  1. While some reviewers might object to the "updated" terminology of Lebell's adaptation of Epictetus' philosophy, I must say that the reason this edition is so effective is largely because the "abstract", "scholarly", "dry" language that one usually encounters (with conventional translations of Epictetus' philosophy) is here replaced with a pleasing approximation of how Epictetus himself would likely speak TODAY (assuming his native tongue were English).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Though I certainly do esteem my copy of this excellent, conventional-book edition, I must say that the alternative AUDIO edition is infinitely more powerfully effective for ME. Indeed, since discovering the AUDIOBOOK edition (an excellently judicious abridgement of this conventional-book edition) some years ago, I've found myself listening to it over and over and over, and I expect to do so for the rest of my life! I certainly can't say THAT about any other audiobook (with the possible exception of the audio edition of "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie). If everybody would listen to that audio while commuting to/from work (and/or at bedtime or upon waking), this would likely be a kinder, saner world.

Therefore, IN ADDITION TO (or, initially, instead of) this conventional-book edition, you should absolutely purchase the "audio download" edition of this book so that you can have it as either a conventional compact disc or as MP3 files (for your iPod, MP3 player, computer, etc.). [As of this writing, you can find Amazon's "audio download" edition by first "searching" on the ISBN number of the CASSETTE edition (1574530887) and then clicking on the "Also Available" audio download edition link near the top of the page.] The price for the "audio download" edition is remarkably low; indeed, it may well amount to the greatest "self-help" bargain you'll ever encounter!

Regarding this TEXT edition, be aware that only the latest (2007) edition [ISBN: 9780061286056] includes two RECENTLY WRITTEN essays by author Lebell: "Epi-Who? How a 200-Year-Old Dead White Male Changed My Life" and "Why Would Anyone Want to Be a Stoic?". These helpful and gratifying essays (appended to the reprinted text of the prior, 1995 edition) should prove helpful/entertaining to most readers, especially newcomers to Epictetus' teachings. Oh, btw, the latest edition also features all-new cover art.

  2. I have read this four or five times, and I have found that it is truly a manual to live by. If this manual replaced the Bible, the New Testament, and the Koran, people would be much more peaceful and contented. It has great common sense advice, and such a simple, humble tone. It reminds me of the Tao Te Ching, but less mystical. Every time I read it I feel better about life. I think anyone would benefit from reading it.

  3. Sirs: In the Amazon provided title for this book, they spelt part of the title wrong, with: 'mannual', rather than the correct 'manual'.

  4. This book was recommemed by a specialist in treating people with attendtion deficit disorder (ADD). The pieces of wisdom are good bits of wisdom but I feel it would have been better if the author could have elaborated. The pieces of wisdom are only one two pages. Some only a paragraph or two. Perhaps given examples or some type of historical context as Robert Greene id in 48 principles of power.

  5. This book is the bad Hollywood remake of a classic film. I think previous reviews are split into two different categories - one set reviewing the thoughts and ideas of Epictetus (who deserves 5 stars), the other reviewing sham 'author' Sharon Lebell (who deserves 1 star). The source material being abused here is absolute genius. Sadly it gets butchered by a woman who by her own admission doesn't know Latin and had no idea who Epictetus was until the publisher approached her and asked her to 'write' this book. The translator is never revealed (bad sign), but previous reviews are correct that the actual text has been stretched, paraphrased, and regurgitated into lame self-help-isms. It's a testament to the power of the original work that some of the main the ideas still come through. Forget the terrible remake, go watch the original!

5 comments about The Kid's Guide to Service Projects: Over 500 Service Ideas for Young People Who Want to Make a Difference (Self-Help for Kids Series) (Self-Help for Kids Series).
  1. This is an excellent resource for anyone working with youth and young adults, especially those in the non-profit field. The book provides ideas, helpful hints, and most importantly empowers youth to help their community.

All of the ideas are well thought out. Many of the activities can be altered, simplifed, or enhanced depending on your goals.

There are very helpful hints on how to create press releases, flyers, public service announcements, etc. This is a helpful guide for youth and a great resource for adults.

I recommend this book to anyone who works with youth and young adults that are committed to helping others.

  2. This book was very helpful to me as I explained to my daughter about being a good person of service. The project ideas seem to relate well to the interest of kids and many can be done by the kids themselves. Other projects will require adult help.

I think this book is very good. As we read through the book, my daughter had many questions, as well as suggestions and modifications for certain projects. It was very thought provoking and inspiring.

  3. This book provides ideas for students, teachers and parents who want to make a difference but are not sure where to start.

  4. This is a quick and easy to read book, equally valuable for parents, teachers and kids. It's absolutely filled with fantastic ideas, some of which can be implemented almost immediatly, while some will take a bit longer. Great resource for teaching responsibility and community service!

  5. This is an excellent book for both parents and kids and even teachers.
There are lots of ideas for everyone and the nice thing about it is that this book is easy to read and understand.
We need more books like this one.
    Hats off to the author.
