3 comments about How to Get Over Him and Learn from Your Mistakes: A Survival Guide.
  1. Perfect for my 17 year old daughter trying to get out of an abusive relationship. I felt like the size of the book was just right, not huge and overwhelming. She picked it up and didn't put it down until she finished it. It offered good information that she needed to hear from someone besides her mom. It was more like a good friend talking to her about her problems. Would recommend to anyone trying to break free from a bad relationship.

  2. How To Get Over Him And Learn From Your Mistakes: A Survival Guide is a self-help guide for women survivors of harmful or abusive relationships, ranging from being with a disrespectful man to being with philanderer or a thief, or suffering criminal attacks or date rape. How To Get Over Him And Learn From Your Mistakes outlines the key steps to reclaiming one's life and independence, and how to identify a man who is looking only for sex or worse. Though the author is very religious and her devotion to God shows through, How To Get Over Him And Learn From Your Mistakes is not a religious instruction manual - it is about dealing with practical matters in the search for Mr. Right, and written expressly for women in need regardless of their religious background. Highly recommended.

  3. Small book but enough for u to read. I'm still in the middle. but it seems like its worth it to buy. The author sums everything down for you. she doesnt leave anything behind. The book is completely about the title.

  1. I bought this book from a bookstore. At first, I thought it was going to be cheesy and easy to pass, but the more I read, the more I fell in love with it and I am a guy!

There are phrases that will melt any romantic heart, like: "The one thing guaranteed to make you lose your temper is someone treating me unkindly." "When I am sick, you spoil me rotten",
"You hardly ever cry, but when you do, I can't stop the tears coming to my eyes as well". One of my favorites and I can't find the exact quote now but it was: you rub my back with sunscreen even though you know I don't need it.

    "You have extremely ticklish ribs"

It's amazing how much depth, emotion and mush Rebecca Hall can pack into a mere line and a half.

WHen I read those words, it warms my heart, there are hundreds of them. It gives you ideas of how to love someone purely and selflessly.

It's full of little surprises and thoughts and insights about different situations from arguing to parties and everything in between.

5 comments about Binge Thinking: A Different Kind of College Hangover.
  1. I wish that Dr.'s White and Borges would have written this book ten years ago. Four years of undergraduate work and three years working with college admissions has taught me that the obsticals identified in "Binge Thinking" are universal symptoms of the real college hangover.

If you haven't experienced the sinario's in this book, then chances are someone you know has or will. The good doctors have hit the nail on the head and vocalized many of the fears, experiences, and trails that I ran into as a wide eyed freshman. A couple while sitting in Dr. White's classes. (ha)

Most of the situations are unavoidable, but after reading "Binge Thinking," one has a better chance dealing with anxieties and obsticals as they appear.

"Binge Thinking" is a tool that any prospective student, parent or individual should carry in thier arrsenel when entering collegate life. The language and lessons are accessible to audiences of all ages. So much so, that I'm ordering a copy for my brother and cousin who just graduated high school!

    Happy Reading.

  2. This book has brought clarity and understanding to a complex topic. The chronic over thinking of not only college students but of virtually all modern day individuals is so universal that it is often considered "normal". Dr.'s Borges and White have created a language and thought process for people to identify and talk about the very nature of over thinking and why it can cause so much harm to your mental well being. As products of such modern affluence and choice we often take for granted that our minds have evolved to handle all the complexity and choice that we do have. That couldn't be further from the truth! What we need is a language and thought process to help us talk about our abundance of choice and that is what Dr.'s Borges and White have done.

Anyone who is interested in their mental well being and for a better understanding of the very world we live in should buy this book immediately. They will then understand just why they have been afflicted with those most "normal" thoughts of inadaquecy and unhappiness that every one of us walks through life with.

  3. I just finished reading Binge Thinking. It was more
than I expected--it was actually fun to read! As a
college student, I binged on all of the thinking
binges they talked about. I wish someone gave me this
book when I was in college. As a teacher, I highly
recommend Binge Thinking for anyone going into college
or already in college. It's the only book I've read
that talks about what really goes on in and OUT of the
    classroom!

  4. I found Binge Thinking to be especially poignant since I am a recent college graduate. For me, it was easy to relate to several of the characters and their predicaments because I faced many of the same issues during my college years.
The best thing about the book is that it can, and should, be read by several different groups of people. It can not only be enjoyed by future and current college students but it is also a good informational tool for parents to gain exposure to some of the things their child may be experiencing while away at school. I would also recommend Binge Thinking to all college graduates, like myself, as I found it to be helpful in understanding some of the thoughts and feelings that I experienced in college.
This book can ease some of the anxieties that we face before, during, and after college.

  5. I graduated from college this past summer. After reading Binge Thinking, I found that the stories told in the book are true to the real college experience. I wish I had the opportunity to read Binge Thinking prior to or during my four years, and I know Binge Thinking would have been a helpful tool for my parents as well. This book provides a better way of looking at tough times in college and reassures students that their feelings are not out of the ordinary. Also, I wish I had DB to help me through college, he is so smart!

5 comments about The Root of Rejection: Escape the Bondage of Rejection and Experience the Freedom of God's Acceptance.
  1. Joyce Meyer teaches in the same manner that Christ does, with love and firmness. If you have experienced enough rejection "to leave scars" as she mentions in her book, Beauty for Ashes, then this is definitely a must-read! She walks you through all the aspects of rejection, stating that we must get to the root of the problem is we're ever to be replanted in righteousness. This book is an easy read, with examples from her own life as well as others. She writes in a way that is comforting while she teaches. She does not beat around the bush for you to figure out the gaps. Instead, she sympathizes with you when she says it won't be easy and that it takes commitment as well as time spent in God's word if we truly want to break free from the bondage. There is victory on the other side!

  2. I just finished reading The Root of Rejection, and it was at least the third time that I've read it. I may even read it again in the future. This book is a good introduction to the topic of rejection and it's impact on people. If rejection or trying to be accepted by people have been issues in your life, you may find yourself, or some of your behaviors, on the pages of this book.

This is a short book and is not difficult to read. It will give you things to ponder and pray about as you read it. For me, the book helped me to understand what rejection is and how certain situations in my life caused me to feel rejected, how I changed as a result of those experiences and how rejection impaired my perception of myself and other people. It made me aware of specific issues, perceptions and behaviors to address with other resources/materials and in prayer.

This book presents that instead of basing your self-worth on acceptance by other people, you should base your self-worth on God's acceptance and who are you in Christ. I have read other books that say the same thing, but I don't totally agree with it. What about people who aren't Christians? On what do they base their self-worth? hmmmmm. I believe that people have to come to their own conclusions about the basis of their self-worth and that it probably changes somewhat over time.

There is a slight bit of a Word of Faith slant to the book. It wasn't very overbearing (to me), so even if Word of Faith ideas are not your cup of tea, the book can still benefit you. In fact, perhaps only someone who is familiar with the Word of Faith would pick up on it. At any rate, I recommend the book as an introduction to identifying and overcoming rejection. I do believe that additional resources and time will be needed to kill the root of rejection. Read everything with discernment and your Bible on hand.

  3. I plan to buy a copy for everyone in my family. We all suffer from "controlling" in one way or another. It does take one to know one. Joyce explains her controlling ways, and with God's Word how we all can break away and be free from the bondage of "controlling-ness." The question is what side do you want to be on.

  4. Another great by Joyce Meyer. Edifying and comforting words of wisdom. I will keep this book forever for reference.

  5. I have not only read this book and passed it out to friends, but I also recommended it in my book called Where's my mate? This book is a must read for anyone who has suffered past hurts.

    Bethan K. Scanlon
Author of Where's my mate, Born of the Spirit and Redeeming Catholics

5 comments about Traveling Hopefully: How to Lose Your Family Baggage and Jumpstart Your Life.
  1. Ms. Gill's latest book, "Traveling Hopefully", is packed with practical strategies and techniques that will guide readers (yes, even we men) to find direction and purpose on life's journey. I especially like the way Ms. Gill applies her useful and no-nonsense exercises as mile markers throughout her book as she courageously shares the twists and turns of her inspiring life story. With committment and compassion, Libby Gill has constructed a road map that each reader can follow as he or she continues the journey toward a more hope-filled, enlightened and self-reliant life.

  2. "Traveling Hopefully" is just what it implies. We all have voices whether internal or external telling us to get our act together, yet none of these voices instruct us on how to do it. In this book, Libby Gill gives us a roadmap and guides us through the familiar questions of who, what, where, when and why. She then gives the reader the tools for how to move through the questions and teaches exercises to get to the heart of the answers. Giving a tangible way to design our life and make our dreams become reality.

  3. Libby Gill has written a brilliant, hopeful and insightful book. Libby is a rare author and coach who has the courage to share her own stories to help all of us to see our own possibilities. Anyone who wants to let go of what is holding them back from reaching their goals in any aspect of their life needs to read this book. Libby inspires us to create our own Traveling Hopefully Personal Roadmap and teaches us step by step how to take action! You'll feel like you have your own personal coach as Libby guides you on your journey through this inspirational book.

  4. As I couldn't actually bring myself to buy the book, I went to the library and found a copy. And then I couldn't even force myself to read all of it. Let me say that Ms. Gill's book typifies everything--every last thing--that is so tragically wrong with the entire self-help movement. The facile logic. The mistaken inferences drawn from a very limited base of data and/or information. The (unproven) founding assumption that you ARE what you've BEEN, and that your past (or, worse yet, your family history) is necessarily holding you back. The simple-minded, generic advice (e.g. "keep going after what you want") that has nothing to do with a program for actual achievement, and, ironically, may actually stunt your personal growth by persuading you to stick with formless, hopeless endeavors. Please, please, PLEASE do not spend good money on this type of blather. If your life is not the way you want it to be, take a course somewhere--at a real institution of learning--or go into formal therapy, or learn painting or some other diverting hobby. Let people like Ms. Gill find other ways of getting, and staying, rich.

  5. I now call it serendipidy because after reading this book,I was compelled to contact the author to learn more! To say that this book has changed my life would be an understatement. Libby Gill is everything her book portrays, genuine, compassionate and dead on. I now give this book, along with her DVD,to the important people in my life.
