  1. I only bought this book because I get the guys ezine each week, but hey, it did exactly what it said it would do. I did most of the things in the book and I feel genuinely a whole lot better in myself and about myself. My friends have certainly noticed and mentioned it on several occasions.
I have not felt confident in public for many years and now I do feel so much better and I wanted to write to share that. If you want to learn how to feel good about yourself, then this book really helped me and I believe it will help many others.

  2. I was told by the person recommending this book that it was going to be tough? Having read the book and worked my through it, I see what was meant. This book ensures that you truly get to work on your self-esteem, not just learn about it in theory. The author ensures that you do really use what you already have to make such a powerful difference.
I have been telling everyone I know about this book as I have enjoyed it enormously. The author has a style that really appeals to me; it is like he is talking to you the whole time and guiding through your own development.
There are so many things that I never knew I could do to enhance my self-esteem and I am doing so many of them on a daily basis and even find myself pointing out the tiniest of things I learnt here to other people that they tell me really helped them on that day.
I found that on a couple of the days there was too much to do and I could not fit it into one day. This book offers a 21 day guide, but it took me about 30 days to do it all. I guess some people will skip some of it, but I found doing everything the book asked has really made me feel good in myself. To quote the author (hope that is ok??) "If you were going to train to run a marathon, you wouldn't just sprint 100 metres everyday. You would train hard and stretch yourself."
I did everything and it was a stretch at times and today I feel alive and really wanted to tell everyone!

  3. I love this style of writing. Non-stuffy, chatty and witty. I have read more than my fair share of self-help material and had come across some of this books many techniques before. However, the daily structure of it is brilliant and simple and easy to understand and apply. As I say, I loved it.
Thoroughly enjoyable and I feel great having read this book and worked at the elements in it. Anyone that wants lots of self-esteem boosting techniques packaged in a simple structure and daily guide should get this book because you will undoubtedly benefit from it.

  1. JOURNEYS THROUGH HELL - STORIES OF BURN SURVIVORS' RECONSTRUCTION OF SELF AND IDENTITY, is compelling and griping without being purposefully dramatic. Mr. Stouffer takes an approach of linking the personal accounts of survivor's stories with responsible narrative language that provides guidance and understanding into a world most of us don't understand. He establishes a dialogue that informs individuals about the nature of burn injuries and the involved procedures for burn treatment, and, takes the time to focus on recovery for both the survivor and the survivor's family.

JOURNEYS THROUGH HELL, skillfully managaes to combine the language of social science with the basic elements of trust, care, and the re-establishment of identity. It is without a false note and is deserving of a read by all.

  3. Journeys Through Hell is an important book that takes the reader into the inner, private lives of burn injury survivors. This is a gem of a book, a social psychological study that relies on the narrative stories provided by burn survivors themselves who, in biographical fashion let us look at what it means to be a survivor of a terrible injury. What it means, very much unanticipated by the severely injured person in the initial stages of the injury, is pain, anguish, torture, and very importantly, hope and anticipation of a healed future.

While the book focuses on severe burns, it really has a much broader appeal: it is really about what it means to be a trauma survivor. The trauma could be physical, psychological or both. In any case, the book is about how people experience the most extreme personal loss, and sudden, terrifying change. In instantly experiencing the destruction of their normal, everyday lives, and in having their worlds shattered, we see how the survivors slowly struggle to be reborn, and come whole again.

What Dr. Stouffer does so well, often very eloquently and with great sensitivity to the survivors, is the fact that he draws out from the survivors their hidden stories, fears, and deep feelings of loss as well as hope. He shows how survivors slowly come to understand what they have lost and how, with the help of caring others, they may go on to find deep, abiding strengths they never realized they possessed. Stouffer gives strong voice to the survivors, allowing them to tell their stories, while skillfully weaving their accounts into a sociological, constructionist foundation. This book is not dull sociology, or mind numbing psychological theory. It is vividly presented real human drama that helps illuminate how we all cope with personal loss, and how we build our lives. I strongly recommend Journeys Through Hell.

5 comments about Body Self: take ACTION in your quest for Positive Body Image & More Self-Confidence.
  1. Hi! I read this book when it first came out as an e-book and loved it. I related to so much what Melissa had to say about the way we feel about our bodies, clothes, other women, and especially FOOD!

This new print version is even better. There are excerpts from other women, and the new structure is great.

I recommend it for all women, but especially girls and women who have gone through eating disorders and the body image hatred that Melissa talks about. Good job, Melissa!

  2. I also read this book when it was first available last year as an e-book, and I definitely found it inspiring. Body image + sexuality are inextricably linked, and I found Miss Dodd's personal accounts of her struggles to be fascinating and ultimately inspirational. Buy this book for your teenage daughter!

  3. There are very few books that I recommend to other readers, because I assume that everyone has their own tastes and their interests -- especially in the area of "self-help." But, this book covers such a far reaching subject, and I think just about every woman I know could benefit from it. This woman talks about body image in regards to sex, dressing, jobs, long term success, even friendships.

It really is inspirational, and it changed the way I looked at my waist, hips, thighs, butt, you name it!

  4. I have read this book in search of a way to view my body and my self more positively. However, this book claims that only the overweight or people with eating disorders lack self-confidence. It is not true, obviously. I am not overweight and never had any eating disorders, but I just don't have a positive self-image. So if you're like me, don't read this book. I couldn't relate to it. The title is misleading.

  5. I just want to say thank you to those of you who have posted reviews on here. After reading them I feel ready to read this inspiring book. I have been overweight all my life, and battled with self esteem issues for the majority of my adolescence. I must say to the people who have self-esteem issues who are not overweight, or haven't had an eating disorder...even though you find it hard to find something that reaches out to you, there are some good books that deal strictly with self-esteem and confidence issues. You must look within yourself to find out what it truly is that upsets you about yourself...is it your body, or is it that you feel inadequate in another way? Perhaps when you do that, you will realize that you are not unhappy with your body, but rather with another aspect of your life/personality. For the women who have weight issues, feel unattractive--we have many issues facing us. We have been labeled for the majority of our lives, and our issues have always been hidden...trying to avoid attention and finally we have resources that can help us deal with the emotional damage our weight and self confidence issues have caused.

I'm looking forward to reading this book. I hope that it can help me heal my emotional pain caused by weight, food, and feeling unattractive.

  1. A collection of wisdom from the Lord's annointed servants of past and present. This book has been an aid in allowing God to reveal Jesus' character to me during my quiet and intimate moments with Him. 'Along the Road to Manhood' is my choice for devotionals.

  2. I've had this book for years and have used it often as a source of inspirational quotes and stories. Stu Weber is calling men to a higher standard - God's standard - and he does it in a powerful and encouraging way. This is a great gift to give new fathers or to brothers in Christ.

  1. I first used this tape more than fifteen years ago, when I had cancer. I wished to avoid or at least delay surgery, so I attempted a mind/body approach, with diet, visualization, and meditation. "Self-Healing" added an important dimension to my other practices, using healing words and evoking imagery that I would not have had otherwise. I used it as I went to sleep, and woke rested, relaxed, and pain free.

Once I was completely recovered, I forgot about the tape for years. But lately I have been suffering from chronic pain syndrome, and I dug it out. Ahhh, the old magic is back! What a relief! When I listen, the pain drains away. I get a good night's sleep. I feel as relaxed as I do after a good message.

But technologies change and the tape is inconvenient. My only tape player is in the car, and that is not where I prefer to sleep. I am just here to order the CD...And to wish you the best in you own healing process.

  2. I owned this on cassette for many, many years. Recently I was throwing things out and thought to myself that I could probably get it on CD now. I paid the excessive price of $27 for this supposed "audio book" and it turns out to be not at all the same as the original Self Healing that I had on cassette. Gone is the lovely piano music with crashing waves in the background that soothed my soul. Now the subliminal portion has patently uninteresting classical music, the music isn't bad, but it doesn't come close to the original. I am kicking myself for having tossed out that old cassette tape and for having wasted $27 on something I'll never listen to again. If anyone has a copy of the old cassette, I will happily buy it.....

  3. Konicov is a master at his craft. The production quality on his cd's and tapes is a tad below average, however his content, structure, vocal delivery, and pacing is simply perfect. I enjoy the music as well, though as I noted before the production is not that great. I highly recommend all of his cds, whether it be for smoking, healing, back pain, psychic development, etc. He has so many categories. It's great. If you want hypnosis this is the guy. He has a very soothing voice, and it's very relaxing and helpful.
