1 comments about The Confidence to Be Yourself: How to Boost Your Self-Esteem.
  1. Dr Roet writes about this often elusive attribute - confidence - in his usual relaxed and often humorous style. He gently compels us to improve our confidence by adjusting our perspective; taking risks; being selfish(!) and increasing our self-awareness. I am confident (sic.) that my self-esteem and confidence has blossomed since reading Dr Roet's insightful book and by putting some of his ideas and strategies into practice. Read it - you owe it to yourself!

5 comments about The Unburdened Heart: 5 Keys to Forgiveness and Freedom.
  1. The Unburdened Heart touched my heart and helped me key back into my need to stay current with the people in my life that I care about most and with those with whom I have on-going conflicted feelings. Mariah's writing style is open, engaging and makes sense. I am using her five key points in my personal life and also in my professional life as an organization development consultant. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to change the way they relate to their partner, family, friends or colleagues. This is one of the best books I've read and the best on forgiveness - great job!

  2. Thus far, I've been spared the torments experienced by many of the people Mariah profiles in her book. Her book touched me deeply on a far less dramatic level: Daily life. Life at work, at home, and on the road can so easily be an assault of small irritations. Because of Mariah's gentle, insightful book, I now pause to think empathetically about the "perpetrator". Each day is now far more relaxed. Thanks, Mariah.

  3. Mariah Burton Nelson has taken an abstract concept and made it concrete. The book is beautifully written and impeccably researched, making it perfect for a good read or for a more scholarly examination of the information cited. Using both secular and religious concepts, this book does not preach. It is full of love and will enrich your life.

  4. This book is nothing but riding on the current child-abuse hysteria!
    I can't believe that someone like Mariah get applause for what she did! She destroyed a mans life, betrayed love and gloats about it! Shame on her and everybody that thinks there is any honor in that!

  5. I have not read the whole book so, correct me if I am wrong. The poster, "Paul" says that the author of the book "ruined a a mans life, betrayed love and gloated". Is he talking about how the author spoke publicly about how a married man in his mid 20's, her high school coach, Bruce, took advantage of her, molested her and raped her when she was 14? It is called statutory rape, taking advantage of power and it is illegal! Paul, why are you suggesting that the author cover up what Bruce did? He made those mistakes, and should have to face the consequences. Do you have a daughter, niece, cousin who is around the same age? How would you feel if this was done to them? Bruce ruined his own life by taking advantage of a 14 year old. Your suggestions that the 14 year old ruined someones life by talking about it are completely ridiculous.

2 comments about FURTHER ALONG THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED SELF LOVE V.: Self Love v. Self-Esteem.
  1. I listened to an abridged version of this book on a drive from Tampa back to Southern Illinois in February, 2000. Earlier on this same trip I had listened to a tape about St. Agustin as well as the Books on Tape edition of Kathleen Norris' "Amazing Grace," [as well as a book about the physicist Richard Feynman, for balance] so I was rather primed for the "experience" of the cental message of this book. I was nevertheless unprepared for the author's confession that he had been 'thunderstruck' by his discovery of the reality of the person of Jesus as revealed in the Gospels. He describes having turned to a reading of the New Testament after completing the first draft of his epochal The Road Less Travelled, to check some of his quotes and references to Jesus. The Evangelists were not, in Peck's word, PR people, but rather reporters. Just hours after returning from this trip I attended the funeral of Jeanne Hurley Simon, wife of former Senator and Presidential candidate Paul Simon. Although the local Catholic Church soon filled with celebrities and dignitaries, I found my attention was almost completely drawn to reading the selections of scripture available in a red book in the pew pocket in front of me. I was, just hours after finishing Peck's book, reading the familiar Biblical stories and teachings as if for the first time. Peck's book was, for me, a life-changing experience.

  2. I was hoping that Dr. Peck would talk about the differences between self love and self esteem, because this was the title of his lecture. But, in my opinion, he didn't even come close. The tape included stories of himself and others, but nothing that would help the listener understand even the simplest difference between self esteem and self love. As a psychologist, myself, I listened intently to find a connection between his stories and the meaning of his lecture, but I could find none. I have never written a review before but felt strongly enough about this one that I needed to write and tell others.... don't waste your money. I enjoy Dr. Peck's other writings, but not this one!

5 comments about The Crone's Book of Words.
  1. I bought this book just for research info & was sort of disappointed in the lack of much info. There's just pages of nonsensical spells with no explainations or any much else.

  2. This book is a time honored collection of rhyme and prose, composed to evoke the senses in a fury of magic. This witch's book is an invalueable source which will serve you well.

  3. My book arrived in great condition & the 3rd day after I ordered it, standard mail! Just great service!

  4. This may be an interesting book on witchcraft spells in history, but I was disapointed when I read it. It was a collection of old, mostly non-workable by today's standards spells and hexes. Save your money and time and skip this one!

  5. Nor frills or pretty pictures as none are needed. This book, I would say, is for the more experienced witch who has no need of complicated ritual and countless props that todays "how to" books seem to think we need.
    Its not trying to be 'pretentiously' intellectual, nor is it full of the irritatingly familiar threefold/an harm none/karmic warnings that some witches adhere to but many of us have no use of. It is plain and simply a book of words.
    All in all a nice little book in a deserved place on my bookshelf.

5 comments about Emotional Options: How to Use the Option Method.
  1. Many Evans' book is a wonderful introduction to the Option Method. It's simple, friendly, and easy to follow. I often give a copy to my clients after their first Option Method dialogue with me, so they can continue to use this wonderful self-help tool on their own. Mandy's book helps you discard those beliefs which no longer serve you, opening the door to dicovery of your own personal joys.

  2. Emotional Options is a concise, useful, practical tool for understanding yourself and the beliefs that get in the way of your happiness in the present. I have owned and used this book for over a decade and still find it helpful. It's better than all those other 'self-help' books with a million promises and a thousand pages. Mandy Evans writes with simplicity and wisdom making Emotional Options a book that is not only effective but real.

  3. Emotional Options is like an old friend who knows just what to say when you're feeling unhappy or confused. Mandy Evans gives a clear guide to tackling your fears in a safe nonconfrontational way.
    Old patterns can be dissolved by using a series of questions and the result is the creation of a fresh approach to life. The questions are simple but go deep to the source of our negative feelings--our belief structures that have probably been in place all of our lives.
    Don't be fooled by the small size of the book. Each sentence is full and rich with wisdom that has changed my life on a personal and professional level. This is a book that can definitely make you happy.

  4. If I had to choose one book to help me through a hard time, to boost my self-esteem, to give me the tools I need to move forward on any project or in any aspect of my life - this would be that book. Yes, it means that much to me. My copy is bookmarked, earmarked and hi-lightered. And my life, indeed, changed for the better.
    As an on-the-edge, well-educated, new-age girl I'm exposed to most of what's 'out there'. Mandys book and techniques cut to the chase and deliver. I've found it to cover - mostly without meaning to - the best of 12-step work, Landmark Education, and Living In Process work. I would also choose working with the Option Method over about any therapist I know - no offense to them. A good therapist is hard to find and mine has Mandys book and uses it.
    Mandys book presented to me the most workable tools for happiness and getting what I want in this simple, fun format - I admit I am tired of just reading self-help books and appreciate how brief, how easy this almost workbook-style book is for me to read and use.
    Ok. Did I say I loved it? I am buying copies for all my friends and recommending it across the board.

  5. I bought this along with Evans' Travelling Free, which is also based on Emotional Options (The Option Method, created by Bruce Marscicio (sp wrong)). This particular book, E.O. was written much more recently, and while reading the intro, I knew without a doubt that I was going to benefit from her wonderful style of communicating with the reader.

    It made it easy to get over a recent relationship, completely.

    Because it's such a compact book, I was able to focus on each page carefully, because there was no 'overwhelm' about having to trudge through 85 chapters and not know where to even begin.

    The Option method itself is so simple, that unfortunately many might not see the power in this. The real-life case studies in the book are perfect for understanding how it is applied and lets you grasp it and apply it to your own situation with ease.

    Even if you had already purchased any of the Options books by Barry Neil Kaufman ( his "To Love Is to Be Happy With" is excellent, but much longer) I'd still recommend owning this.

2 comments about Greeting Card Wisdom.
  1. This is a simple book. In the best meaning of simple.

    Beautiful calligraphy and artwork. Thoughtful, poignant, sometimes humourous reflections on being.

    My personal favorite: "Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it".

    Don't you agree?

    The book groups images and ideas (the greeting cards) into nine themes:

    Let Yourself Be Vulnerable;

    Trust Yourself;

    Cultivate an Open, Flexible Mind;

    Life is Short;

    Embrace Difficulty;

    Go Beyound Perceived Limitations;

    Follow Your Heart;

    Value Friendship and Intimacy;

    Let Joy In.

    These themes provide the structure to which the disparate images and ideas expressed in the individual greeting cards adhere.

    Each of these thematic chapters (grouping of cards) is introduced with the author's, (Marc Lesser) own unique and personal reflections on the theme. Thus, in Let Joy In, Marc, in reflecting on the theme of joy in life, recounts his daughter's response to his request one day, "tell me about your day, something funny or unusual that happened, something that made you laugh." Her response: "She thought for a few minutes, and then she turned to me and said, Daddy, I laugh all day long!" The greeting cards that follow amplify on the theme, reflect it from different angles.

    If you are a 'busy' person like me, you will probably read this book quickly, delight in some of the thoughts, smirk at others. But don't be surprised if you find yourself coming back to one image/idea several days or weeks later. What did that card say about doors closing. Oh yeah, "when one door closes, another opens, somewhere."

  2. I am moved by the words and images in this collection of Brush Dance cards. What a great idea to turn them into a book!

    I love being able to open this book to any page and be inspired with such wonderful quotes to think about as I go throughout my day.

    One of my favorite quotes is "We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust our sails."

    I highly recommend this book. For the upcoming holidays this is the book I'm going to send to my friends and family.

  1. As a professional opinion, I've worked with Riana and Alexi through both web and fashion design and I'm glad to see their dreams come true. They've worked hard and sacrificed to get to where they are now. They're the "multi-purpose" woman in America. Woman the society should look up to. They're the woman young woman will turn to when they realize it's not all about Britney Spears and Raven Simmon. It's all about your heart, have you followed it your whole life like Riana and Alexi have?
