  1. The world knows Denie Linn as the way-cool woman who wrote all those fabulous books about clutter clearing, Feng Shui and building beautiful altars in your home. In this book Denise opens her heart and shares the story of her life...and she does so in a way that will completely blow you away! The title of the book says it all...she has had so many events happen in her life that would have left many people wallowing in self pity and "poor me." But Denise shares her sheer RESILIANCE and ability to take whatever was thrown at her and build on it.

I devoured this book like a novel...it was that mesmerizing and compelling. I literally could not put it down. A couple of times I caught myself wondering how it turned out and I had to laugh, as I KNOW how it turns out. Her writing style is so personal, humble, yet not lessening the impact of the events.

If you are familiar with Denise's work, you probably know she was gunned down and almost killed by a total stanger in a completely random act of violence. Well, that is just the tip of the iceberg on THAT part of her life. What happens after that is even more amazing and in parts shocking. Her story would be an amazing story without that part!

The bravery that Denise exihibts in sharing such a raw and, at times, heartbreaking story just leaves me speechless. From reading her book, I feel that no matter what has happened to me, I can overcome it. No matter what "other people" say or do, all that matters is what is inside ME. WHEW! I could go on and on, but I really just want to implore anyone who might be considering buying this book to just buy it.

I mean it when I say that the story of Denise Linn's life would make a fabulous movie...it is just that empowering.

  2. This book takes you through Denise's life from childhood all the way to almost the present time. The writing is well done. She has done so many things and if your are interested in new age spirituality or healing you will love this book. It is all an excellent book about a personal journey. I thouroughly enjoyed it. I have attended one of Denise's seminars via Hayhouse.com and can tell you from experience you will feel the healing that comes from her seminars.

This is a definately a good book that I believe you will enjoy.

  1. My wife recieved a signed personal copy from the author. A matter of fact she said that he gave everyone at the doctor's office a copy and everyone was touched by his enthusiam! He even ran out to the car to get a few more for the other patients!

When I first saw the book, I was like oh no not another ego-driven from rags to riches book and how you can be like the author too.

Boy was I wrong! This book is very motivating and very direct to the point. The author uses scriptures from the bible to start off each chapter. He is a Chrisitan and he gives Glory to the God. And believe it or not it likes attending a revial and listening to one testimony and he doesn't preach he teaches the importance of having a good attitude of gratitude and how to turn a disadvantage into advantage.

Also he discussed how he dealt with racism at IBM and turn it into a positive as oppose to a negative. I was too an victim of discrimination at my former employer but I never didn't know why until I read this book. Very eye opening.

The book also include life lessons that we all have experience but couldn't really make sense of it until this book came out!

I defintely can not wait for his next book to drop in January and I strongly urge that everyone who is unemployed or feel like they are at a disadvantage in their current situation to order this book and tell their family and friends about it!

Give God the Glory! Cuz you are about to be blessed like you never been blessed!

Thank you Dr. Attitude for dropping the 411 and giving it to me indirectly through my wife.

    Hallejuah!!!!!!!!!11

  2. In case you didn't know, Keith Harrell is a Christian and begins each chapter with scripture that sets the tone of the chapter. Harrell's religious life is less insightful than his personal struggles that highlights most of the book. His account of how he rehearsed for weeks for a job interview with IBM is more inspirational than his basketball conquest or his religious devotion. Like many motivational books this book lacks depth. The book is cleanly polished. Harrell overcame a stuttering problem, yet there's hardly any mention of the negative impact it made on his life and how he overcame it. According to the book his stuttering problem was overcome by his will to speak normally, however he never mentions the low point he must of felt throughout his tribulation, and what keep him going, was it his religious dedication? It's hard to assume that it was his faith, because as he mentioned he stopped going to church around that time and only recently rediscovered it later in life. Though I understand the book must keep true to its motivational roots of having a positive mental attitude (PMA), the advice seems without empathy. Harrell should of dug a little deeper and truly emphasized his struggle a bit more, connecting more than than just on the surface.

  1. I almost stopped reading this book twice, very disappointed not a good read what so ever. He kept going over the same things numerous times, the book was way way to long, for what i feel he had to share. He went into psychological issues and got wat to technical and drawn out. Wish i could get my money back.

  2. ... but wouldn't be of much benefit to your average, everyday bloke who's sense of self-esteem and confidence doesn't require psychotherapy... this book is more or less geared to the 40-year-old-virgin type.

  3. I think a lot of the bad reviews here are from dudes who are already good with girls. When I got this book, I was painfully shy, and I credit this book for helping me break out of that.

  4. I found this book gave me a deep understanding of all the steps that he describes. He prefers to describe a few technics and ideas, but they are of a profound value and he elaborates a lot about it so you have a very deep understanding of it. I would say it is definitely for BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE level of expertise... , but it is the BEST to have!

  5. This book is one of the best of not THE best self improvement book ever written. The author is honest enough to reveal some of his failures and experiences.

Author speaks to readers in a manner of a friend speaking to a friend rather than being a teacher which makes it easier for reader to connect with the author on equal level. On top of that, the author seems to be genuine in his effort to help rather than try to sell as much book as possible which make the information in this book a trustworthy source of inspiration.

The BEST self improvement book I'd read so far!

  1. After seeing an interview with the author on an excerpt at the end of a Celebrity fit club DVD I knew I had to find out more about her. In her interview she was not only fit, but confident & sent out this really great vibe. I looked her up here on amazon and found her book; Mirror, Mirror. Now, I have been on every diet ever created since starting out in the modeling buisness when I was 13. And even at my lowest weight, which was underweight for my height, I still was not happy with my body. This book digs deep into issues people, women & men, have with their bodies. It makes you think back to when your body insecurites began, why they began, and how to re-write the way you feel about your body. I never thought a book could challenge me so much & change the way I feel. The book makes you change the dialog we have with ourselves about our bodies & makes it possible to live life again without the anxieties that come along with a poor body image. I can't recommend this book enough!

  1. "To know the road ahead, ask those coming back."
    --Chinese Proverb

James Green's interviews with 87 people helped them reveal their moment of truth--and what truth it is. Each story is only a few pages based on: If you could go back and change anything in your life, what would you do differently?

The subtitle of the book is "How to seize your once-in-a-lifetime chance to get it right." It's pretty obvious we will see ourselves in more than one of the stories.

You cannot have a favorite in these stories as each one makes a strong point. For example:
-- A retired NYC cop says he wishes he had been more open minded as a young man relative to people of different races.
-- A young woman tells how she loved men who didn't love her; and was loved by men she didn't love, and how she finally decided to save herself physically and emotionally for the right man.

The author is an airline pilot who decided that "He would listen to the whisper and not let life pass him by, and that he would live his life without regret."

The interview questions he used are part of the book, and if you read them, you will be forced to think about things you learned as each one is a subtle nudge down memory lane.

Can you tell I loved this book! And as a bonus, he included some really great quotes.

Armchair Interviews says with so much downer news in the media and our lives today, these stories so very uplifting.

"Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first,
    the lesson afterwards."
-- Vernon Sanders Law, pro baseball player

  2. IF THERE'S ONE THING I'VE LEARNED by James Green is about "how to seize your once in a lifetime chance to get it right." The author has interviewed hundreds of people of all ages and walks of life and asked what is the most important lesson each has learned and how he or she learned it. The stories and the lessons are told in the interviewee's words. Many are followed with a related wise saying from Wisdom teachers of various faiths through the ages

  3. I received this book as a gift and was very moved by its content. The author's personal experiences, as well as those of others he shares, serve to remind the reader of the importance of living life without regret ... something I promote in my romance seminars and coaching. This book is definitely worth the read, not to mention you may want to gift someone you love with a copy. Oh, and don't be surprised if you discover that one of the stories you read is very close to your own. Congratulations, Mr. Green!

  4. Reviewed by William Phenn for Readers Views

James Green, airline pilot turned writer, turned motivationalist. All he has seen and all he has done, does not compare to what he has written in this compelling volume.

Green has interviewed eighty seven people (I shall have to find out why 87 and not 90?) from all walks of life. Taken one aspect of a person's life, he gives the reader an insight into that person which no one has ever heard before. This book has true accounts of lost love, internet love, disappointing careers, unfulfilled dreams, shattered lives and few successes. Successes such as Green, who includes an excerpt from his own life, tells of how he made the right choice in his early years and how that choice, that one single moment in his existence, made an amazing difference in his life.

Green has filled "If There's One Thing I've Learned" with over two hundred and fifty pages of the most interesting accounts of people. Recollections they have had of the good, the bad, and the ugly. One such example is Steve, the thirty seven year old architect, that discovered internet dating. His humorous account of cyber sex and internet dating left me in stitches. Then there is Ron, the thirty nine year old technician, whose story was in the chapter titled "The One Who Got Away" - a heart breaker that will read like a Greek tragedy. On and on, the examples are endless, the stories compelling.

Green has combined every facet of enjoyable reading into this volume. There is joy, drama, tragedy, sex (not erotic) and no violence. If there's one thing I've learned, this is a very enjoyable book that is general audience. Lessons learned in the book are many; see which one relates to you and your life.

I highly recommend this fine piece of literary work to all who can read. You are in here somewhere, mark my words.

  5. James Green's book encourages the reader to look within himself/herself, to focus upon their goals, what's important in their lives and also offers some solace that we can learn from our past, in order to improve upon our future. It's refreshing to read a "guide" which isn't another fad. Rather, the author offers thought provoking experiences from diverse individuals, which can be of benefit to all.

  1. This book not only changed the way I looked at food but it changed my way of eating and opened my eyes to notice how my body reacted to food. This is an awsome book and I hope to find more books with a biblical fountain to make better choices of what I put and do not put in my body and live my life.

  2. Joyce Meyers has done a great job on this book. It is very motivating and spiritual for living right and happy. I enjoy going back to reading it for motivation when you start feeling depressed, etc.

  3. This book helped me look at myself and get on the ball to do something different. I can no longer expect different results by doing the same thing. If I want different results I must do something different. What a great book to get me inspired to do just that.

  4. I buy a lot of Joyce Meyer's books. She relates to us humans and their relationship to God in a real-life way. She is great. I read this book in one day. Ate it right up!

  5. I have given this book to so many people...
This book gives it to you straight re: excersize, nutrition, and lifestyle habits that promote lasting health. It's expecially poignant for woman .. but applies to all. Great for those who lack motivation and who think the mountain to physical well being is just too great OR for those who think they just don't have time for themselves. Joyce did her homework. It's an easy read and technically sound.
    HIGHLY recommend it!
