4 comments about Embracing Your Power Woman: 11 Steps to Coming of Age in Mid-life.
- Take a guided journey to build your woman strength as you are through Barbara Wilder's refresher course Embracing Your Power Woman: Coming Of Age In The Second Half Of Life. Yes, it's New Age: it uses myths, stories, and essays to explore aging concepts in women's lives - but it's deftly juxtaposes spiritual and health concerns with social issues as well, showing women how to become more focused and directed. An intriguing survey of money, health and beauty, self-directed power and motivation which is very highly recommended for Women's Studies and Self-Help supplemental reading lists.
- I was prepared to resist this book as "been there, done that," but I was soon drawn in by the creative way Wilder not only charts an emotional and psychological map of coming into one's own as a Power Woman, but illuminates where we are on the spectrum, both personally and in a mythic and social context. I found it validating to see what had gone right as well as awry in my own evolution as a woman in our culture. The deeper I got into the book, the more avidly I took notes, particularly in regard to Wilder's new paradigms of authentic leadership and profound definition of success. I found this book heartening and revitalizing.
- Nowadays it's said that 60 is the new 40 (or is that 45?). Barbara Wilder's terrific, empowering book makes that statement true. Each step in this marvelous work takes us closer to youth -- not Seventeen mag and not Merlin going backward -- but back to the future, to the youths we might have had were it not for cultural repressions, and back to the kind of strength we had as children, transformed into TRUE adulthood, maturity and fulfillment. Wilder gives meaning to aging, and nothing could be more important in a society that loathes old folk (and makes them loath themselves and therefore often live in utter selfishness) and that discards women after we have reached a "certain age." Someone once said middle-aged women could be cat burglars and get away with it because no one remembers what we look like, we are invisible. Take these 11 steps and your crime career is over -- you will be learn to be seen and never forgotten. Let us hope WIlder does a sequel: for men.
- This book changed my life. As I entered middle age, I started to fear my future on almost every level. I worried about ageism in my career field, dreaded the physical changes my body was starting to go through, and became anxious about my relevance on the planet. Reading "Embracing Your Power Woman" made me stop and realize how unnecessary all this fear was. Unlike the cultural messages around us that seek to nullify the role of middle-aged and older women in our society, this book celebrates our strength, our wisdom and our important place in the world. It helped me get in touch with my own beauty and worth and allowed me to look forward to the next phase of my life with excitement, not dread. Every woman should read Ms. Wilder's book!

5 comments about Surrendering to Yourself.
- This is not the type of book so popular now. Iris does not offer step-by-step instructions to happiness. And, I cannot think of one profound message from the book; rather, I have gained a whole new appreciation of ME and the life I have made for myself. This book introduces you to folks that know exactly how to put into words all the magic that life has to offer. So many times I thought to myself, "I knew that!" If you want to be validated and want to feel like you are reuniting with your best friend (yourself), this is your book. Definitely one of the best books you will ever encounter. Go for it!
- This book is not a list of instructions to happiness. Rather, it is a visit with an old friend. Learn that all along you hold the key to your happiness. I savored each page, you will too!
- I am awestruck...not because the book is terrific but because some people have figured out (or found agents who've figured out) how to write books about incredibly obvious things -- and make a handsome living at it. Furthermore, I love it when rich people tell me to put my feet up and savor the "good life," a life they probably wouldn't be able to savor themselves if they didn't get handsome checks for writing dreck like this. I haven't learned this much from a book since Suze Orman told me to look behind the sofa cushions for spare change.
- I enjoyed Krasnow's first book, "Surrendering to Motherhood," but can't say this one is worth reading. It goes on and on about....nothing.
Here are some of the things that make Krasnow happy and help her to rediscover who she is: Working out with her trainer, getting away to the beach without her husband or kids, drinking coffee in her peaceful riverfront kitchen and feeling sorry for the poor souls who have to fight traffic to get to work at dawn, going away to an expensive sleepaway camp with her sons, and driving her shiny, sporty Ford Escape that reminds of her being young, carefree and childfree (she uses an additional car to tote the boys around town). For those of us without the luxury of time, a third personal car, a personal trainer, a rich husband, etc, it will be a little more difficult to re-discover our souls. We're too busy paying bills, working, trying to find the time to spend with our children, friends and husbands.
- This book spoke to my soul. It came to me at a time when I was at a crossroads in so many levels of my life. Even though I am only 28, have not had children yet and haven't had the same amount of life experience as Iris, I related to so much of what she writes about. I found peace, liberation and an insight into my own truth in this book.

An excellent book combining spirituality and psychology in a very delightful, practical way. A must reading for anyone who wants to deepen their spirituality and know themselves better.
Frederic G. Emry
- "Choosing Light-Heartedness" is an excellent book for anyone wanting to grow within. The way it is written is very easy to follow and is in common everyday language. I enjoyed how Kari added experiences to the chapters which gave an added connection. The assignments are well laid out and easy to follow. I especially like how the chapters are broken down; it makes it easy to find a specific issue that you made need to work on again.
I recommed this book to everyone. The assignment are work, but worth the effort. In the end you will find a "lighter you".
- "Kari Joys has created a new paradigm in the way we heal from depression,
anxiety, poor self-esteem and dysfunctional family issues. With confidence and
proven methods, Kari Joys' new book "Choosing Light Heartedness" utilizes three
decades of research and practice to provide healthy alternatives to prescribing
anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications! "Choosing Light-Heartedness"
transcends old belief systems and provides new techniques for healing your mind,
body and soul. I believe in Kari Joys and in this remarkable book!"
- I find Joys' book "Choosing Light-Heartedness" to be very impressive! For years we've read many wonderful books about codependence and dysfunctional families, but never before has a psychotherapist written a book from his or her own professional experience that teaches clear, simple steps of an emotional healing journey that anyone can undertake, no matter what their history or their educational background!
Kari Joys writes with the kindness and heart-felt compassion of someone who has overcome the emotional pain in her own life and now sincerely wants to help others who also want to heal. She also demonstrates true lightheartedness through her writing that is clearly from someone who has succeeded in her own emotional healing journey. I believe this book could easily be a national bestseller! When it does I believe it will help millions of people who are struggling with anxiety, depression and poor self esteem to actually find the guidance they need to overcome their issues and create new and better lives for themselves!

5 comments about A Path to Power: A Master's Guide to Conquering Crisis.
- Mack Newton's motivational speeches pump his readers into overdrive, giving them a workout of the mental kind. This new book, compiled by Michele St. George, will challenge the way you think, feel, and consequently act about yourself. Regardless, of the crisis you face; no matter how far down on the ladder life has pushed you - "A Path to Power" will lift you up.
- A Path to Power is 181 pages of condensed wisdom that provides a framework for transforming your life and realizing your dreams. I've always been skeptical of "peak performance" gurus, but Mack has what the others lack - credibility and selflessness. Here is a man who sincerely wants everyone to realize his or her own potential. The book is straightforward - you can improve your life immediately - and the messages contained are both powerful and universal. This is a book you will refer to time and time again as you navigate the inevitable challenges of life. Get A Path to Power and share it with others!
- Mack Newton's book is a rehash of pop-culture trash that's been written about before. And much more profoundly. For various reasons (based on a rationalist's skepticism), I really do question the validity of most of the book's contents. And in a "self-help" book such as this, integrity is all important. If a story is created just to make a point, that's nice and all. But getting happy applying Mack's advice in real life works the same way you get rich by playing the lottery. Additionally, the book is self-published by Mack himself. Listen folks, the world is made up of a million self-help gurus selling us stuff to make us like them. How may ways can these people rehash such simple human observations such as, "to thine own self, be true, "seek and ye shall find, and, "life is misery." Read a novel. Don't buy this book.
- This is one of the most inspirational books I have read in a long time. I don't seem to have read the same book as the previous reviewer, who labeled it "rehashed trash." I also find it interesting that he chooses to remain anonymous while spewing vitriol. He seems as though he has an axe to grind and a great deal of personal resentment toward Mack Newton. At any rate, this book contains some timeless observations about human nature, as well as some refreshing and thought-provoking ways to live your own life with sincerity, integrity and joy. I highly recommend it, as have the other reviewers I read on this page.
- This book is so poorly written and has no profundity at all.
Folksy wisdom anyone learns just living life. I find none of the stories inspirational because they are sophomoric and mere reports of average struggles and bland testimonials without any substance or insight at all.If you want to read and inspirational book leave this one on the counter. This is a self-aggrandizing account by a narcissist living out a frenetic existence. The author writes nothing pity about the author's personal life? Does he lead a life that is balanced? My impression is this is a savant with one directional and one dimensional skills and experience. Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah as the saying goes. This review is more exciting than this mundane pseudo informative self-help cud.

5 comments about Think Yourself Thin: The Visualization Technique That Will Make You Lose Weight.
- This is a wonderful, wonderful book!! I can't recommend it highly enough! Several years ago I lost thirty pounds using a method I devised myself which included counting calories and also making a treasure map of my goal weight and self-image (a treasure map is a kind of a scrap book you create yourself with positive pictures, phrases, etc. that support the goal you are trying to achieve). At the time I gave all the credit for my weight loss to counting calories, and NOT to the treasure map (which I discontinued) and over the years I have gained back all 30 pounds, even though I have tried every diet imaginable! I recently discovered "Think Yourself Thin" and upon reading it I realized that my prior weight loss was NOT due to counting calories, it had everything to do with the treasure map I made -- so I immediately started following Debbie's suggestions (along with restarting a NEW treasure map!) and the very next morning when I looked in the mirror, I looked thinner! I've been following her book & working on my journal/treasure map and already my clothes are much looser and I'm fitting into smaller sizes! I'm looking forward to being thin again, now that I know the TRUE secret to becoming and staying thin!! Not only is it easy, it's fun (well, it's not always easy to counter-act the negative thoughts -- but Debbie guides you through handling that, too!) Anyone wanting to lose weight once and for all should give this book a try!!
- As a person who's been struggling with weight issues all my life, I'd like to recommend this book by Debbie Johnson. A year ago I reached my goal weight of 135 lbs, and I was actually told I looked 120 lbs. You would think I'd be pleased with myself and celebrate my new-found body, right? Well, no. I stared at myself in the mirror, still considered myself fat, and began to pick at "flaws" on my body. A year later, I re-gained 40 lbs.
If any of you have experienced this scenario, then you should read Debbie's book. She emphasizes the psychological issues that overweight people suffer. Johnson's insights can explain why I gained my weight back: I had a poor self-image despite having reached my goal weight. Because of a lack of love and even self-loathing towards myself and my body, I was susceptible to gaining my former weight back, which happened like clockwork. My poor self-image produced an enormous amount of anxiety and stress which provides the psychological framework for gaining weight. Johnson's visualization techniques are simple: If you imagine yourself fat, your subconscious will create hunger to feed this image. If you imagine yourself thin, your subconscious will reorganize itself to maintain your thinness and help you find ways to maintain that image. At that point Johnson postulates that your body will reorganize your bodily functions and metabolism to let go of excess weight. I was a strict disciplinarian who used an enormous will-power to lose weight, but discipline and self-denial aren't the qualities that help long-term weight loss and maintainance, and if you deep down believe you're fat, will-power and discipline cannot erase that fear. According to Johnson, will power is not as powerful as the imagination that ultimately helps you to visualize your ideal image which in turn aids you in appreciating your body. Johnson's visualization technique helps you affirm yourself in the now and trains you to see yourself in your ideal body. In doing so, your subconscious will be fed with positive images of your present self which will in time help you develop your own system of weight loss and not anyone else's. Those of you who have done the Atkins diet, weight-loss programs, and others know that there isn't one system that works for each and every one of our particular bodies. Johnson's techniques will help you find your own personal system that will give you guided signals on what to eat and which exercises to partake via *natural* and not coerced means. Johnson is right: There is no one system that works for millions of overweight people. Dogmatic weight loss systems might help us in a short amount of time but "abandons" us eventually, as Johnson insightfully notes. As I look at my pictures from a year ago, I am shocked to see how thin I was. But I certainly didn't think I was thin because of the psychological issues involved in it. I kept focusing on my physical flaws and thought myself as a "fat" person, and I certainly wasn't. Thinking yourself fat is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Likewise, thinking yourself thin is also a self-fulfilling prophecy, and it's up to you to choose how to perceive yourself. Ultimately, I realize now that self-love and self-image are the most important components on long-term weight loss and maintainance. Johnson's book will explain to you in detail how restructuring our own psychology is the most vital aspect of losing weight.
- Great message, good techniques - I tried several and give them a thumbs up - but read the book, don't listen to the tape as I did. She is a sales person and really wants to sell you!! I already bought the book and disliked the extra pitch in her voice and tone.
- When this book first came out, I remember making fun of the title.. "yeah, right.. think yourself thin.. another one preying on the desperation of over weight individuals".. but SOOOO not true.
This book would not have made much sense to me had I not seen Rhonda Byrne's The Secret first. Think Yourself Thin is all about the law of attraction and it helped me to see how it was I put on weight after successfully keeping off with the Body For Life plan for 7 years!! My deal was self hate. I hit a low in life.. and I tend to turn it on myself.. bingo.. I started gaining weight and I didn't get it. The more weight I gained, the angrier I got at me.
This is key for me. I've changed how I talk to myself, am back on the Body For Life plan.. and I'm slimming down for GOOD!!!
- This book is the greatest! It will change your life if you truly apply the principles. It is about gaining a "thin person's mindset". It is the secret that I could never figure out but now I understand. You should rush to buy this book. Then read and re-read it, high-lighting parts that are important to you. Make a notebook with important phrases that you need to say to yourself daily. (for example: "I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want. That is my battlecry!!" or "You look great!" or "I look and feel lighter today!"). Do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT weigh yourself. You will know that you are losing weight by the way your clothes feel! This book is wonderful and the ideas in it work!!!! Another concept that is similar is Paul McKenna's "I Can Make You Thin". It is great too. It is all about loving yourself and feeling comfortable in your own skin. Don't talk down to yourself. Every day just tell yourself that you are thin and you will become thin! It is a mindset. I highly recommend this book to anyone who struggles with their weight.
