  3. Amazing. Stunning. So sensational. So true. Such a lttle book.

Yes, The Game of Life and How to Play It is all these things, but the latter is probably the most important and indeed the most intriguing. How can so much wisdom about ultimately getting anything you want in life, be squeezed into a book with under 90 pages? I'm not quite sure, but it definately works to its advantage. Because of this, I was able to easily read it in one sitting and have the opportunity to easily do so again and again and again. And I plan to. It was that good.

So to the book itself. When I was searching for self-help books, I came across this one, and, the title was the first I thought about. I came to the conclusion that it was a book that taught you about general life skills. IT GOES BEYOND THAT.

Florence Scovel Shinn explains that disease, lack, misfortune, unhappiness, financial difficulties - all the things we dread in life, are because of subtle suggestions impressed upon the subconscious mind in every day life. But changing these habits is easier than anyone could ever imagine. By simply saying aloud every morning when you wake and at night before you sleep that you believe (or have faith) that you are easily going to achieve the things you want to and trust the god within (your superconscious) to give you a definate lead (a hunch that will lead you to what you want). She explains how big a role karma plays in getting what you want and the importance of receiving things aswell as giving things to others. She also advises you act as though you've already got what you want in order for your subconscious to believe you are capable of getting it.

Although these techniques aren't anything new, Shinn's way of writing makes it interesting and the fact that the length of it doesn't even reach the 100 page mark, means you won't have any excuse for not getting time to read it!

So what makes it so successful? For me it was the fact that these techniques were so effective, yet she didn't go into much detail - she kept it simple by, literally every two pages, giving incredible real life examples relating to the wonders she talks of throughout the book.

So please don't listen to me any more, I won't go on. Get your hands on this book, read it with interest and curiosity, and then hopefully you'll experience true wonder, awe, and amazement towards the thought that you can achieve and even get, anything you want in life.

    Thanks.

  4. Buy this book and begin the journey to changing this world, starting with yourself! Peace!!

  5. Very easy reading, and it has a wealth of knowledge that is practical for everyone. When you're confused at times, this certainly brings me back to "balance".

5 comments about Heaven Knows What (Llewellyn's Popular Astrology Series).
  1. Astrology is a hard science to master, which is why this book is so brilliant. Grant Lewi takes a number of complex astrological concepts and converts them into something which is usable by, and useful to, the layman.Even if you know nothing about astrology, you could construct your own chart in less than 30 minutes . This book is not 100% accurate as it only takes into consideration major aspects such as the trine, sextile, opposition. square or conjunction .Also ,the moon positions might not be completely accurate. For eg. 23 january 1985 says moon in aquarius while a person born on that day might have a moon in pisces owing to latitude differences .However, the fact remains that this is an excellent start for those who want to know more about astrology considering it has tables from the year 1870 to 2050 as well as 277 aspects.

  2. You will find a lot of delineations in this book: all aspects and sun-moon combinations are reviewed. But Lewi Grant goes further. He modifies his delineations according to other aspects that can be found in the natal chart. A venus-jupiter conjunction in your radix will differ if your chart has a venus-mars trine as well or a venus-mars conjunction. This is just not a textbook about two planets in aspect, but about different planets in aspect. That's the way delineations should be handled: all aspects are to be seen and interpreted as a chain. Only Lewi Grant seems to understand this....

  3. This book bored me. I really can't say much else. I think you will have to go with the average of great reviews vs not so great reviews and make your decision based on that since this book is out of print and not readily available to thrumb through at your local bookstore or metaphysical bookstore.

  4. This is an excellent first astrology book. The in depth coverage and ease of use of the star charts enable the beginner to do accurate natal readings. You will be amazed at how close the book is to the people you know well.
Beware of the charts of people you don't know well, like new boyfriends. Mistakes can be devastating, because the time of day matters. The moon and planets sometimes swing in and out of a sign in a single day making the exact time of day of birth necessary for the serious new astrologer. Time and experience makes the more advanced astrologer weary of these little got-you foibles. Soon you to will become more exact in your work, and develop a sixth sense for a chart that just isn't right. You will also start to recognize people for what they are, not what you want them to be.

  5. Don't use this book to cast the horoscope - use a computer program like "Astrolog" which you can easily download for free off the net (it's freeware). Use that or one of the other books (like Parkers) to do the actual casting then USE THIS FOR INTERPRETATION! If you have an accurately cast horoscope this book is extremely scary in it's accuracy. The sun/moon profiles are absolutely spot on (not one person I have met is wrong and that is saying something.) I've been studying astrology for about 30 years now and use this and Parkers for most of my interpretations (there are a couple of other books I use as well). What is good about this is Lewi gives you a base profile and layers all the modifications based on an individuals chart. So it's best to write the sun/moon combination and then all the aspects and interlink them together to get a full profile - that is the real power of this book - interlinking all the aspects with the sun/moon to get a full profile, which soon becomes individual as the person you are studying. Ascendants and houses are not covered and is really the only weakness, as that is the final layer on what is a complex subject. However (remember this is for begginners) and if you know someone 80% then that is pretty good. Hint: go for the later editions as they also cover aspects to Pluto.

  1. All Wayne Dyer's material is good, but if you've got many of his past audio recordings, there's very little new here. The first 2 CD's are like a very long intro before you get into the meat of it.
The good thing is all 8 CD's are live, which is much more entertaining than the ones which are really just audio books. If you're new to his work, it would be worth buying; otherwise save your money.

  2. Heard the Hay House audio production of IT'S NEVER CROWDED
ALONG THE EXTRA MILE, written and recorded live by Dr. Wayne
    W. Dyer.

As longtime readers of this newsletter know, I'm a big fan of Wayne
Dyer . . . in fact, one of the great thrills of my life was to have heard
him speak last year in Philadelphia and then get to interview him
    for my radio show.

So it should be no surprise that I loved his latest tapes . . . he
shares what it's like to go the extra mile to lead a deeper, fuller
life . . . in doing so, you'll lose the ability to worry as you begin
    to experience inner peace.

Furthermore, you'll lose interest in judging people, and you'll have
less room in your life for conflict . . . and you'll lean to attract
abundance simply be conceiving of it on your own mind.

This can all begin with learning these 10 Secrets for
    Success and Inner Peace:

    1. Have a Mind That Is Open to Everything and Attached to Nothing

    2. Don't Die with Your Music Still in You

    3. You Can't Give Away What You Don't Have

    4. Embrace Silence

    5. Give Up Your Personal History

    6. You Can't Solve a Problem with the Same Mind That Created It

    7. There Are No Justified Resentments

    8. Treat Yourself As If You Already Are What You'd Like to Be

    9. Treasure Your Divinity

    10. Wisdom Is Avoiding All Thoughts That Weaken You

  3. I get a little put-off with metaphysical mumbo-jumbo, and to be honest, a lot of Dyers beliefs conflict with my own. For the most part, this 7-disk set of CDs was just a plain joy to listen to. I admire Dyer for attaining the level he has--considering his humble beginnings. He also lets it all hang out in his presentations: singing, humming, repeating mantras, etc.. I felt a high level of peace, and did a lot of soul searching as I listened. I highly recommend the CDs. I don't know whether there's a book by this title or not.

  4. You can't go wrong with this one. I was clinging to every word he says and found an inner peace I never knew I could have. So much truth and so little to do with religion, I find it very inspiring and recommending it to everyone I know. Whether you beilive in God or not this will truly make you think about your purpose on this earth and how you can control your future here as well.

  2. Both sides of my tape had subliminal music....no affirmations..I was very disappointed. I think this was just a tape that was dysfunctional,

  3. My tape must have been defective. There wqere no affirmations..only subliminal music.

  4. Feeling Fine Affirmations by Louise L. Hay is exactly what it states. If you have a very poor self image or low self confidence, this CD could be a great help, if you are in the right frame of mind to be relaxed and receptive. She simply and softly speaks positive affirmations to help you learn to have good mental messages to yourself in order to be healthy physically and emotionally and to reduce stress. However, if you are already a positive and happy person, the CD's could make you feel as if you are learning to decline a verb!

  5. Since 1988, I have listened to Louise Hay. In 2005, I was a victim of Hurrincane Katrina and decided to move. And I needed some affirmations to help me along the way. Then, I purchased several of Louise's CD's and also this one and they really helped me. This particular CD helped me in both physical illness and other problems. I do not understand why the other reviewers gave this CD such a low score. I will say that it worked so well for me and I continue to listen to this CD when I need a "booster shot."

1 comments about The ADDED DIMENSION: CELEBRATING THE OPPORTUNITIES, REWARDS, AND CHALLENGES OF THE ADD EXPERIENCE.
  1. This book is structured like that of a devontional type with one to one-half page explanation and what to do about a sympton of ADD that the authors have encountered in their lives. This book has helped me become comfortable with having ADD and has given me many good ideas and guidelines on how to make my symptons work with me not against me. I highly recommend this book to anyone with any form of ADD.

5 comments about Manifesting Your Heart's Desire Book I (Revised and Expanded).
  1. I first read Manifesting Your Heart's Desire several years ago and felt I had discovered the key to everything I wanted my life to be. In reading the revised and expanded edition I feel no differently about this, I still feel it's the key to everything I have the potential and desire to bring about in my life. I realize now, however, that this is not a one-time, quickie trick, but an ongoing process of evaluating and re-evaluating the results I'm getting. This book is a tool and a means of interpreting what it is I need to do differently. Consider this a workbook as well as a key to personal power while bearing in mind, keys are useless until we actually use them to open doors!

  2. Within the pages of this easy-to-read "Manifesting How-To", the authors successfully convey the essence of how & why we truly are the creators of our own life experiences. Prior to reading this book, I'd always had a "knowing" about the fact that nothing in life is coincidental... since reading this book, this "knowing" carries a new excitement, which now leads me to look for and expect wonderful coincidence around every corner! Please excuse the cliche, but the information, so simply presented in Manifesting Your Heart's Desire, can change the way you look at your life, if you let it...

  3. The premise of this book is that "we can consciously create our own reality." Ever heard *THAT ONE* before? Unlike most of those other credulous/puerile New Age books on this subject, this book concentrates on empirical investigation & practical application featuring both the successes *and failures* of the participants.

Do we create our own reality? This book doesn't tell you what you *SHOULD* think, believe or feel. Rather this book is meant to help you experiment & decide for yourself. Therefore therein is not a plethora flowery platitudes, endless quotations and "feel goodisms" in lieu of legitimate theory and the even more important hands on "lab work." Those New Age books that discourage critical thinking and encourage mindless belief are, ironically, simply substituting one form of dogmatism for another. After all, all other fields of human investigation have both dimensions of inquiry, so why not the spiritual as well?

Other books that seem good companions to this book are "Rosicrucian Principles for Home and Business" by H. Spencer Lewis and "Game of Life" by Florence Shinn.

  4. This book about manifesting was first published in 1994, before much of the New Age writings picked up on this concept. I found the book very entertaining and heartily recommend it to anyone who feels a victim of some adversity. It seems that we are given everything that we need and that everything we are given is good, meant for us to experience, deal with, and resolve. I look forward to reading the second book.

  5. Definitely on my recommended book list. A must read for women in business.

3 comments about I Promise Myself: Making a Commitment to Yourself and Your Dreams.
  1. I Promise Myself is a book to sit with and thumb through and read ten thousand times or more. Reilly shows us, through a vow composition process, how to truly know ourselves and find the inner strength needed to live in this hectic and often externally-focused world. The book is especially helpful to women who, as PLR describes it, tend to get caught up in the 'swirls' of others... ever the caretaker, ever the giver, ever the one who depends on others for strength. It has helped me through times of crisis by allowing me to define the natural center of my self to which I can always return.

  2. I met at Patricia Reilly, the author of "I Promise Myself," at a recent booksigning in Salt Lake City. "I Promise Myself" is an amazing book and I made all of my high school friends read it. They all agreed that we girls need to affirm, appreciate, and love ourselves before anyone else. This in itself is a wonderful idea. But in a society such as ours, where we are told that pleasing others is our first priority, where we are taught that beauty is more important than comfort and love, and where we are ashamed of our sexuality and womanhood, this notion of self-affirmation isn't just wonderful...it's painfully needed. Patricia and her book are a wonderful example to me and to every one else.

  3. The book was well written with anecdotes and stories of women making vows to themselves and ceremonies. As women we are used to making promises to everyone except ourselves. This book gives permission to make a commitment to yourself.

5 comments about The Right Words at the Right Time Volume 2: Your Turn!.
  1. "Volume 2" is a sequel to Marlo Thomas' 2002 New York Times Best Selling "The Right Words at the Right Time." Thomas' best seller featured famous, successful people who wrote about the words that changed their lives.

Thomas in "Volume 2" features 101 people from all walks of life (including a prisoner) who, as in the first book, share their stories about the words that changed their lives. These stories were solicited by Parade Magazine from its readers who championed Thomas' first book.

These books were written to show how the right words can transform as they challenge us at a crossroads, helping us through times of sorrow, and calling us to action.

While there are many inspiring stories, I did not find this book as inspirational as the first. Nevertheless, Thomas does well in prompting each of us to think about those words that came to us at the "right time," and in reminding us that we, too, can play a critical role in another's life - when they need the "Right Words at the Right Time."

  2. Excellent book! It's a good feeling book, and knowing that the proceeds support St. Jude's Hospital makes it even better.

  3. This book is a MUST HAVE follow up to the original title; The Right Words at the Right Time. This time around Marlo Thomas has collected stories from every day people like you and me that are touching and heartfelt. They are meant to both inspire and encourage, and they do just that. I highly recommend this book as well as the original.

  4. Lovely book. Not only did I enjoy it, but helped support a hospital I feel very strongly about. A good balance to all the terrible things happening in the world. A view of the other side.

  5. If you're over 50, white and wealthy, this book is for you. If you are someone who has dealt with many of life's hardships, please do not look to this book for inspiration. It is such fluff, I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in it. Nothing profound lies within, it is poorly re-written and, seems to me, a quick way for Thomas to make some money and keep her name out there.

Written by a wealthy older white person, for other wealthy older white people.

    P.S. I am white.
