5 comments about Confidence: Finding It and Living It.
- This book doesn't beat around the bush. Barbara gets straight to the point -- how to find confidence and how to BE it.
It's really a wonderful book and I would recommend everyone to get it. To Barbara DeAngelis, if I may dare (for I am a great fan), I would recommend making the book longer with more examples and more insight. I felt that it was a bit short (though that's what some people need) and I was kind of hoping for a bit more hand-holding and encouragement. But still, 5 stars!!!! :-D Thank you, Barbara, for all your wonderful books!
- It's hard to rate self-help books, in my opinion. On the one hand, if someone can take a bit of advice and use it then it must be worth it. On the other hand, most of the advice is usually common sense, just repackaged info you've heard before, and/or full of fluff.
This book is a real quick read. I do like the author's definition of confidence which basically is "To be true to yourself and take action where/when you feel it needs to be taken, and don't be afraid to look bad." She then goes into three areas of confidence; behavior, emotional, and spiritual. She states that spiritual confidence is perhaps the most important because you have to have a belief that things are going to work out for you in the long run. I thought this particular idea was basically fluff and can be summed up into one word, optimism. Self-help books are not miracle pills, they are like private pep talks. The first 2/3 of this book got me invigorated to go out and live life with more confidence!
- As a Psychologist, I can honestly say that this is the best self-help book on confidence that I have ever read! It is short and to the point, yet very rich in extremely helpful and worthwhile information. I refer many of my clients to this book.
- DeAngelis, a relationship guru who has been married five times, attempts to explain what confidence is, how to develop spiritual confidence, and secrets for discovering your inner power. A basic how-to book, it does not deal with current career related issues.
- Very Hardy case! Just have to open the case all the time to use the keyboard.

4 comments about A Thousand Paths to Wisdom (Thousand Paths series).
- "A Thousand Paths to Wisdom" is a compilation of thoughts and phrases that have been handed down through the years. It is a mixture of humor and wit and intellect. It's basic and down to earth... truism at its best. I plan to purchase four or five copies to use at work to help develop speaking skills of employees who work for me. I'm planning on three half-hour... little more... sessions a week with five people. You start by having them seated and reading two pages out loud... going around the table one-by-one. By the end of the half-hour they have had the opportunity to probably read eight to ten pages. The intimidation level is minimal and they get used to hearing their own voices. Once that comfort level is achieved you have them stand behind a podium, still reading from the book, then gradually needing no props at all. This book is perfect for what I want to achieve for my employees: insightful and builds confidence.
- A simple collection of tranquil thoughts...can be found in David Baird's collection of 1000 thoughts.
Baird nicely separates the thoughts topically, from "Tranquility Found" to "Tranquility Lost", and all situations in between. This is a great collection when you are looking for phrases and words to inspire others, to "de-stress" an environment, to understand when "that change will do you good". More simplistic than the original, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff", Baird's book is one of those items that lays on your desk within reach, only to be opened whenever you are losing perspective or your sense of self. A great source of quiet inspiration, Baird's book was with me when I lost a job, and when I lost and subsequently found, a daughter. Where else can you find gems attributable to the ages, from Aristotle to Woody Allen? Keep it handy, buy it for others, treasure it.
- "A Thousand Paths to Wisdom" certainly delivers in terms of quantity and quality. This is a great coffee table book that is designed quite well. I only gave it a 4 out of 5 because most of the quotes in the book are not referenced. Two sections of the book, "Famous Voices" and "Ancient Wisdom," include quotes and its source. There are other referenced quotes scattered throughout the text but not consistently. I do feel it is a great resource in exploring your own path to wisdom.
- I love these books and have collected them all. They always seem to make me feel better when I'm down.

5 comments about From Ex-Wife to Exceptional Life: A Woman's Journey through Divorce [UNABRIDGED].
- Women going through any stage of divorce will find that this book is one they will want to use on a daily basis. I am not divorced, but have shared it with a family member who is going through a divorce, and she was so thrilled with the advice and support the few pages she read gave her, that I ordered one for her for a Christmas gift.
This book is written by a woman, for women. I know when I read it there was not only good advice for the newly divorced, but there is advice that I have found myself using.
This book covers every aspect of divorce, from the legal issues, to how to deal with being single again. Other topics covered include helping your children get through the divorce; coping with holidays; the need to get help through therapy; abuse; emotions, and dating again. There are many, many more issues discussed, but these give you an idea of the range of issues covered in the book.
What I really like about the book is the format. It is set up to be read like a log book, one page a day (each page covers a seperate issue), but because there is an index, it is easy to look up items that the reader may need advice on, or may want to re-read.
This is a book that I highly recommend for any woman going through a divorce. My cousin said she was handling things okay, but after reading just a few pages, she realized that there were things that she should be dealing with, but was either avoiding, or in denial about. Just a few pages of reading gave her hope and strength, as well as a sense that she was going to be okay. I think that is the best testimonial to the effectiveness of a book there is!
- I found this wonderful book to be both soothing and a great resource. Every topic I had questions about was addressed. I found it easy to read one day at a time, but the index makes it possible to address any topic on any given day. This book would make a thoughtful gift for a friend in any of the stages of divorce or separation.
- A wonderful companion for anyone going through a separation, a divorce or in the process of redefining themselves. Donna Ferber's words offer valuable information, support and comfort to those caught in the often confusing and isolated process of divorce. The index allows for questions to be answered as needed and the daily essays guides one through the complexities of issues and emotions experienced during the separation process. From Ex-Wife to Exceptional Life gives you the feeling that you are not alone in the world.
P.S. Some of the essays are great for men and family too. Donna has insightful wisdom and guidance for helping children through the separation process as well. The essays assist the family to grow even if the marriage ends.
- I was searching 'divorce' on Amazon.com and found "From Ex-Wife to Exceptional Life..." The title caught my eye and I thought if this book is half as good as the title, I have to get it. I had no idea how helpful this book would be. The goal of this book is to read a page a day, and have a thought or purpose for each day. Some days don't apply to me, so I just skip that page, other days are so in tune with what I am going through, it's as if Donna is writing just for me. If you are going through a divorce; whether it is your decision or your husband's, this book is a must-have.
- With wisdom and encouragement Donna Ferber takes the reader through the first 365 emotionally charged days which often follow a divorce.
Each page, reflecting another day in that year, takes on a new topic during this often tumultuous time and helps pave the path to a smoother and more fulfilling life; one that is filled with strength and joy rather than longing and pain.
I wish the book had been written when I went through my own divorce many years ago. Now happily remarried, I still take pleasure in reading the daily affirmations placed at the end of each day's lesson. They apply to us all who wish to live a more serene and positive life.
Well crafted and sensitive, FROM EX-WIFE TO EXCEPTIONAL LIFE is a gorgeous book that will help all women - divorced, divorcing, married or single - grow in spirit and strength.
Donna Ferber, you are, indeed, an exceptional woman and I thank you for sharing your insight and wisdom.

1 comments about Dating, Mating, And Relating: How to Build a Healthy Relationship.
- Don't let the title fool you. This book has very little to say, if anything about dating.
The authors wanted to revise their earlier book about marriage, but for various reasons decided to write a whole new book instead.

5 comments about Choosing Light-Heartedness, A 33 Day Journey to Overcome Anxiety, Depression and Dysfunctional Family Issues.
- This is an excellent book - an incredible journey to loving one's self first. A resourceful guide for self discovery. The journaling I've done as I read this book is so enlightening. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to grow, discover and improve their life. Well written.

An excellent book combining spirituality and psychology in a very delightful, practical way. A must reading for anyone who wants to deepen their spirituality and know themselves better.
Frederic G. Emry
- "Choosing Light-Heartedness" is an excellent book for anyone wanting to grow within. The way it is written is very easy to follow and is in common everyday language. I enjoyed how Kari added experiences to the chapters which gave an added connection. The assignments are well laid out and easy to follow. I especially like how the chapters are broken down; it makes it easy to find a specific issue that you made need to work on again.
I recommed this book to everyone. The assignment are work, but worth the effort. In the end you will find a "lighter you".
- "Kari Joys has created a new paradigm in the way we heal from depression,
anxiety, poor self-esteem and dysfunctional family issues. With confidence and
proven methods, Kari Joys' new book "Choosing Light Heartedness" utilizes three
decades of research and practice to provide healthy alternatives to prescribing
anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications! "Choosing Light-Heartedness"
transcends old belief systems and provides new techniques for healing your mind,
body and soul. I believe in Kari Joys and in this remarkable book!"
- I find Joys' book "Choosing Light-Heartedness" to be very impressive! For years we've read many wonderful books about codependence and dysfunctional families, but never before has a psychotherapist written a book from his or her own professional experience that teaches clear, simple steps of an emotional healing journey that anyone can undertake, no matter what their history or their educational background!
Kari Joys writes with the kindness and heart-felt compassion of someone who has overcome the emotional pain in her own life and now sincerely wants to help others who also want to heal. She also demonstrates true lightheartedness through her writing that is clearly from someone who has succeeded in her own emotional healing journey. I believe this book could easily be a national bestseller! When it does I believe it will help millions of people who are struggling with anxiety, depression and poor self esteem to actually find the guidance they need to overcome their issues and create new and better lives for themselves!

5 comments about Secrets of Creative Visualization.
- At first Mr Cooper seems rather dorky and dogmatic but using logical reasoning he open-mindedly explains the truths behind what we call existence. While reading this book I thought how lucky I was to have discovered it beforte the age of forty - I wished I'd had it before the age of 20 but then, its only just been published. I won't bore you with my critique - just buy it and realise its worth infintely more than you'll pay for it. I only wish I could get in touch with the author and personally ask him some questions.
- This is one of the most dynamic, positive and uplifting works I've ever read. The techniques are breathtakingly simple, and the author's presentation is wonderful in it's symmetry and depth. Western Magick forms the backdrop, but the information contained here should prove useful to anyone interested in expanding their horizons. This work is especially valuable to those who believe that the Mind is the ultimate source of Reality. Also, I found Mr. Cooper's sincerity and kind words of encouragement particularly refreshing and helpful. His program of self-empowerment challenges the reader to stretch beyond old and outdated beliefs toward a fresh perspective; one that has the potential to transform lives. Courage and a little discipline are all that's required; I think you'll find that this book goes a long way towards helping you find these.
- You might want to take the author's viewpoint into consideration when deciding whether or not to purchase this book. For example, on page 133, he says, 'I use no gods, except the concept of a creative source. In my religion, there are only three people: Me, myself, and I."
- The author explains the fundamental teachings of metaphysics:
That we all have the power to create whatsoever we desire when we "believe that we receive" when we pray. Understanding how to use the laws of the mind, through creative visualization and through the power of faith--believing an idea with absolute 100% convinction--is unerring solution to all of life's obstacles and challenges. After completing this book, I read a book from the author's bibliography that is well known on this subject and is highly recommended--The Magic of Believing by Claude M. Bristol. Therefore, the book was helpful in more than one way. I would recommending reading the above mentioned book by Mr. Bristol as well as Power of Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy for a more exhaustive understanding of the subject. Sometimes it takes reading different authors' discussion of a subject to really believe that these ideas are not only true, but are accepted and used by many. One thing that I did not necessarily find too helpful was the sligthly eccentric instructions in several chapters of the book. However the insights found in chapters 1-6, 18 and 25-26 warrant my purchase in the end. Read this book, apply the principle then share the knowledge to help others.
- I mostly liked this author before, but it *seems* that this author has taken to writing "Customer Reviews" of his/her? own works! That's pretty darn lame. He/she should at least acknowledge their status as author in the review, if they had any integrity.

5 comments about Age Doesn't Matter Unless You're a Cheese.
- This is a great book, not as funny as Age Sucks maybe, but it's not meant to be. In fact, I think they're good companions. "Cheese" is a much broader, wiser book, with many thoughtful things to ponder. Yes, some things made me laugh, but other things touched my heart and really made me think. The subtitle is wisdom of the elders and that's exactly right -- and this book is exactly right. Thank you, Ross and Kathryn.
- Every quote listed in this book comes from people who were over 70 years old at the time, so they know of whence they speak. This is a light read, but a truly enjoyable one. Turn to any page, and read sagacious advice on a variety of subjects, from well-known figures ranging from Julia Child to Golda Meir, and everywhere in between. This is a book that will be returned to again and again for its wit and wisdom. And, as we age, the words become more true to life. Age does not necessarily equal wisdom, but in the case of this collection, it certainly applies.
- While this is not a mega-sized collection of quotes (just one quote per page) it IS an amazing selection of time-tested wisdom, humor, and experience. I collect quotations; and this book was an outstanding resource from that standpoint, since the preponderant majority of the quotes were "keepers." I have collected 20,000+ in a personal database over more than a decade (an odd hobby, some would say, but I guess I'm pretty easily amused). While a few of the quotes familiar to me, most were fresh and original, and the preponderant majority were "keepers." But you don't have to be a quotation collector to enjoy this book; if you're looking for inspiration, "words to live by," (from folks who have "been there, done that"), or if you just enjoy reading books that give you something to think about and more than a few chuckles along the way, I believe you will thoroughly enjoy it.
- A serious subject presented in a humorous manner.Easily read, hilarious and thought provoking. It will keep you in 'stitches'. M.Phyllis HIll
- This small, fat book appears as if it will be filled with cute little quotes, but once I delved in, I was rewarded with true wisdom and insight. I think a better title would have been one of the quotes contained within: "Live your life, and forget your age."
