  1. These colorful 2-sided health affirmation cards are easy to read. These affirmations are very simple & general. Some of my favorites are:

"I return my body to optimum health by giving it what it needs on every level."

"I balance my life between work, rest and play. They all get equal time."

"I am the only person who has control over my eating habits. I can always resist something if I choose."

"My happy thoughts help create my health body."

"I go within and connect with that part of myself that knows how to heal."

For anyone who is trying to recover from an illness or injury these affirmations can be really helpful. These are also good affirmations for people trying to maintain or improve their health by strengthening their subconscious mind. Enjoy!

  2. I would highly recommend Louise L hay to anyone she is a phenominal author and is very wise.

5 comments about Acting Techniques for Everyday Life: Look and Feel Self-Confident in Difficult, Real-Life Situations.
  1. I wasn't sure what to make of this book when I first opened it. I am an actor and an entrepreneur - so currently "act" on stage and believe in Shakespeare's oft quoted phrase, "All the world's a stage....."

I wasn't prepared to find so many valuable tips and tricks to begin to use immediately both in my acting (I am looking forward to my next audition!) and in my everyday life. I will also try some of this out in my coaching practice - and perhaps modify accordingly.

Another bonus is Ms. Robbins writing voice. I have no idea what the voice that springs from her body sounds like, but I just "get" that it is warm, engaging, open and has a melodious quality to it.... just like her book. I had to put the book down last night to go meet a friend and I found myself wanting to read "just one more suggestion, just one more...." And I think it was partially because I wanted to "hang out" with the author some more.

This book would be handy for EVERYONE. Go ahead, you know you want a copy, too.

  2. I personally have no desire whatsoever to be an "actor." However, this book has been invaluable to me as a business executive. The techniques inside can give you a decided business advantage when working with clients. I highly recommend this book!

  3. More books should be written on this subject. I bought an acting book and was on the verge of trying to find an image consultant or taking acting classes to learn how to act like I was totally confident and in control of every situation. When I felt insecure or lacked confidence, everyone knew it, I didn't know how to hide it in my facial expressions or body language. This book has really helped. More could be written on everyday life acting techniques, there are many more situations that could be addressed.

  4. As an academic physician and professor, I am called upon to give many lectures to lay and medical audiences. The goal in lecturing is always to convey the intensity and drama and importance of the message, without blocks by personal inhibitions. Whether you are a doctor, or an actor, or a singer, or a lawyer,or businessperson, or speak at PTA meetings, Jane Robbins wise suggestions and instructions will enable you to reach your best performance potential.

  5. I bought this hoping to gain a new perspective and what I got was an author who spent too much time talking about herself and her experiences which didn't relate to me at all as a male from the Eastern US. The book also seems to use date references and comparisons that don't ring true for me. It's not a bad book, but not what I expected from the reviews. The previews they show of the book are amongst the very best the book has to offer. I would suggest you keep looking...I am.

5 comments about What Will Set You Free.
  1. There was a time that I thought that I had no where to turn. Using the principles of this book have allowed me to hope and begin to live from a place of power.

I encourage anyone who is challenged with life to learn the skills in this book. I believe it will be a life changing event.

    Susan

  2. This book is brilliant in it's approach. It's laid out in such a simple way to follow the daily and weekly practices and tools for healing old wounds, judgments and unhealthy beliefs. I'm so grateful to have these tools which I'll be able to use throughout time whenever I'm in need of support. I also found the personal life stories written by various individuals to be quite helpful. Hearing other poeple's stories, insights and healings offered me a deeper inroad to addressing with compassion my own challenges. I'll be recommending "What Will Set You Free" to anyone I know that is in need of support.

  3. In any abuse situation (physical, emotional, substance) we tend to divorce ourselves from our bodies and our feelings and walk through our lives disconnected from our essence. "What will set you Free" companions the reader every day of their journey to healing. At the beginning of the book the question is asked "If there were no blocks how would you live your life?" What follows is a workbook that is much more than just another self-help book. It is a workbook for life change which will transform the reader from abuse to wholeness. Cynthia James has written an easy to follow road map to reconnection with your true self.

  4. The author lived with a violent upbringing too - being hurt and worse quite frequently. It affected everything in her life until she decided that "yesterday" wasn't going to affect "tomorrow" anymore!

She wrote this book as a gift back to the world to help others accept and transcend the pain that brought them this far. The program and meditations are a safe path through facing the past and releasing their hold on your future. You owe this to yourself! You're worth it!

  5. Reviewed by Carol Hoyer for Readers View (5/08)

Cynthia James has given readers the chance to make a positive change in their life through her own stories, practical exercises, journaling and a wonderful meditation CD.

It has been a while since this reader has read a book so compelling, one that gives advice you can use right that moment and one so caring. Each chapter is filled with stories of her own life of abuse, neglect, finding the wrong relationships and trying to find who she really is. Don't we all do that? Many of us have been harboring secrets for most of our life and can't figure out why we aren't happy.

"What Will Set You Free" gives clear understanding of how we sabotage our goals and ourselves. We continually play the victim and blame others. Ms. James teaches us how to stop doing the negatives and focus on the positives we have with such exercises as: writing your story- word for word, making no changes. She asks, "Does your story drain you and make you fatigued?" Then follows with after reading your story ask yourself "Do you want to let go of the story and move on."

As a psychologist I have read many self-help books, but none show this amount of enthusiasm or sincerity in helping you make a change in seven weeks. This is a book that I would recommend my students in my "Children and Violence" class to read and re-read. Even if we have taught ourselves to believe that we have had a perfect life, Ms. James will help you realize that there is no "perfect" life-- we all have issues, but you don't have to let them rule. "What Will Set You Free" is a very incredible read.

  1. Great book! Bytheway does a great job in all of his books in encouraging everyone to be better people. Fun to read.

  2. Goodness me, but what a clever and yet so obvious example of the great world of reverse psychology as the great John Bytheway takes on people who are never happy and just what may be making them that way. It's cute, clever, and a perfect reader especially for teenagers.

  3. I really enjoyed this little book. Very quick read. John Bytheway helps you consider your outlook on life and the attitudes you may be projecting. Suggests how you can make yourself miserable with your thoughts and how to turn a negative outlook into a positive attitude.

3 comments about Bodylove: Learning to Like Our Looks and Ourselves -- A Practical Guide for Women.
  1. In Bodylove, Dr. Freedman most astutely points out all that is right with our looks, which, as women, is the antithesis of what we internalize via media advertizing. The need to get us to invest in a negative self image is directly correlated to their need to get us to invest in their products. I hope every women will read and incorporate Rita Freedman's healthy new stance toward ourselves and Madison Avenue.

  2. Not completeyly the book I expected, but it had some really interesting information. I though eating disorders were only for those who were overly thin, I have learned different. It's helping me look at my body in a whole different light. For those of us who have a hard time accepting our bodies it's definately a good read.

  3. I was looking for a book that made me feel really good about myself and that would help me to accept my weight. It didn't really do that though. It was not uplifting and I did not feel any better about myself after. It did have a lot of good and interesting history and information though. It is definitely not sweet and sappy let's feel good about ourselves book. It's a very frank and realistic book, which may be right for some. If I had the choice again, I would only buy it if it were a really good deal. For example, if it were available used for less than a dollar or two.

5 comments about I Want to Tell You About My Feelings.
  1. One of the best analyses of human communication done in a way that can be read on many different levels. A marvelous guide for those who have difficulty in communicating with others. The author breaks the communication process down into simple, easy to understand steps which alert the reader as to what he may or may not be doing along with approaches that he ought to try in order to improve his communication skills. Also speaks to the sense of loneliness that many feel because of their inability to make satisfactory contact with others along with guidelines for self improvement. An excellent reference guide for virtually everyone!

  2. This is really an endearing book with whimsical illustrations. It has a simple and clear way of addressing a complicated topic. I could relate with many of the situations it addressed. I've given away five copies of the book already. It makes a great gift- a little book that carries a big message.

  3. This book is really good reading! I think almost everyone can relate to the feeling of wanting to express your emotions and feeling like the person you are speaking to either doesn't understnad or doesn't care. Really this book reminds us how important it is to set aside our agenda to talk all the time and occasionally create time to LISTEN to others.

  4. This book was a very rare find for me. Something so short, yet contains so much wisdom. After reading "I Want to Tell You About My Feelings," I recommended it to many of my friends. As a psychologist in training, I have read it many times myself, especially when communications appear to be failing. This is one of few books I highly recommend.

  5. Those that are looking for a book that will help them to make people see ONLY their point of view or wishing to find a clever way to make people do what you desire at work or home...you are wasting your time with this book so please move on!!! If you are looking for a book on a P.H.D. level so that you can write your thesis on communication...this isn't for you either. If you are looking to become a better public speaker/communicator...invest your money elsewhere.

If you have a true genuine concern and desire about understanding and communicating with those around you...your kids, signifant other, family members, coworkers, friends, strangers, etc...then this is a book that should be added to your "Books that inspired my life" list. I must truly credit this book for my success not only with my family and friends, but also with my work and complete strangers that I must deal with in life as well. This book was meant to be a life teacher...not an academic teacher.

What is great about this book is the format that he chose to write. The story is simple enough for a child to read, but the messages are so profound that an adult could appreciate it.

Think of those childhood stories that you know personally as a kid, but the moral of the story taught you insight that was priceless. The book is in a cartoon format with simple sentences for a child to read and understand. Yet if you are willing to look beyond that, you will see the uncanny simplicity of his wisdom and appreciate the insight...the moral of the story!!!

He explains the different scenarios and styles on how people communicate, what happens during the process, how the message can be misinterpreted, why people explode, and how to resolve the ugly mess. He also addresses on how every one's style of communication is different, and what you can do to bring out a HEALTHY communication despite the different styles of communication that each person has. He also addresses what you can do to MAINTAIN and NURTURE a healthy communication/relationship as well.

This is one of those books that I wish I had read sooner. It would have made my life a lot easier and more enjoyable.

2 comments about The Simplify-Your-Life Quote Book: Over 500 Inspiring Quotations to Help You Relax, Refocus, and Renew.
  1. "A morning-glory by my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books," the poet Walt Whitman.--
Klein's book is filled with inspirations and reminders of how to be present and appreciate the life we have. It is organized into chapters which include "Be Present," "Focus on What's Important," "Keep It Simple," and "Savor Silence." Among the hundreds of people and sources quoted are Jack Kornfield, William James, Lao-Tzu, Salvador Dali, the Bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, Oprah Winfrey, Socrates, Donald Trump, Leonardo Da Vinci, Yogi Berra, Kahil Gilbran. and Tina Turner. It is a wonderful gift for yourself and others.

  2. We opened a small Christmas package (this book) that came from a friend. Lo, our view about our own very own lives, as in "right now," were almost instantly and excitingly redeemed, simply by contemplating the simple truths found when merely reading the first two chapters! Call it good-timing if you must, but this little book easily brought us to consider how to let "time" serve us, NOW, as it truly is ... and always has been, well before this ole world "humanized" the concept of time with hundreds of false beliefs that lead us all to experience useless longings. Adopting the "now" is all that is available to find inner peace, if only we will see it. It's that simple. This book is stimulating, intellectual reading for anyone seeking inner peace by merely readily embracing most all of the wisdoms that are given in this book, simply for the taking!
