3 comments about Nasty Women.
- Lets put it this way, After reading this book you will become not only understanding but compasionate to the feelings of women but also know how to take back your "control" with out them knowing it.
- Nasty Women makes you think it's about that female from Hell you have involved yourself with...it is, but it is sympathetic to her and to you...I've read books about personality disorders, evil people and wolves in sheep's clothing...they all had the same theme...lot's of luck, get a job out of town, change your cell phone number and run...Nasty Women tells you that too, if you are with the wrong one...but if you are with the right one but on the wrong page, this is the book for you...I'm listing my old books on Amazon and keeping this one...the suggestions Jay Carter makes will work for anybody, even if they are unlucky enough to be with a real nasty woman...
- For men who are reading 'Nasty Women' I would suggest that you work on not allowing other people(particularly women) to control your self-esteem. Jay is right that men are uniquely vulnerable to this kind of control from women. He is right about nothing else, unfortunately. (Take a look at my review of 'Nasty Men' to see a review of Jay's double standards. In essense he tells women to emotionally shut off from male 'invalidators' while telling women--in 'Nasty Women--how to be more effective 'invalidators' and prevent men from shutting them off emotionally. That bad taste? It's sexist double standards!)
There is a big catch-22, here. You may think you're doing what your wife wants you to do when you bow to her standards and expectations of you but she will sense that she controls you. She will sense that you are, at core, childish and lacking in adult self-possetion. Gradually as your relationship matures and you do more and more of what she suggests to turn you into 'a better man' she will progressively loose her sexual, emotional, mental and spiritual interest in you. You will become her perfect child when she wants a man she can respect (I know, I know, SUCH a dirty thought in this day and age, a woman wanting a relationship with a man she can respect.)
Adults don't look to others for their self-esteem needs(or they are very careful to choose _who_ to look to for their self-esteem needs.) Women don't want relationships with children--even if they find their ability to mold them seductive--they want relationships with adults who know themselves and know who they want to be.
Also, Jay's system minimizes women abusing men by casting much of the abuse as acceptable behavior. Just a thought. I'd like to see him speak to some men who have really been put through the wringer by women.

5 comments about That Which You Are Seeking Is Causing You to Seek.
- This is a wonderfull little gem f a book filled with witty wisdom and thoughts to ponder for days. I love the font style chosen as it looks like handwriting and I love the authors insight even more. Buy this little book and open your mind to a realm of possibility.
- "That Which You Are Seeking Is Causing You to Seek" is a book about finding, realizing & using the compassion we already have within. It's about realizing the mental & physical violence we create for ourselves & other's, and choosing to stop it. It's about listening to our self-talk, and choosing to realize when this "mental chatter" is not truly benefiting us - when it's wrong - when it's judgmental - when it's hurtful; and then to realize our personal power to change what we think/hear/say, and how we behave/act.
This is a wonderful book that includes many great insights - Although I must admit that I don't necessarily agree with all of the Zen-Buddhist thoughts included here, but then again, how do we learn about ourselves & other's if we read only those works that we are in full agreement with?...
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in spirituality &/or compassion - I think it has a lot to offer.
- Reader be forewarned - the typeset for this book is made to look like hand writing, so it's a little different. I actually liked the typeset and illustrations - it lent the book a very informal, friendly feel.
I really enjoyed the book. I've been a lazy buddhist for some time, and this book motivated me to start sitting again. I shared the passage on attachment with my wife, as it explained the buddhist ideas on attachment far better than I had been able to, and she finally "got it". Highly recommended.
- Cheri Huber resonates with many who are ready to explore something more than the "I, me, mine" and "more, more, more" culture in which we live. I have given this book as a gift to at least ten people. The book does not endorse a specific religious doctrine, but explores common sense ways to view the world, and ourselves, through compassionate eyes. Highly recommended.
- I love the title of this book. It implies that what we are seeking lies deeply within is, was always there and really leads us forward whether we realize it or not. In short, this book is about getting quiet and listening to this inner wisdom and letting it guide you home. It is simply written, easy to understand and makes good psychological sense.

5 comments about Change Almost Anything in 21 Days: Recharge Your Life with the Power of Over 500 Affirmations.
- My life will never be the same, and it's thanks--in large part--to Ruth Fishel's brilliant guidance. This latest book is another of Ruth's inspired "how-to" guides in the personal growth department. It contains not only the basics to creating life-changing positive affirmations, but instructs the reader in the power of words and "self-talk," in how to stay in the present moment, in what works and doesn't work and even when NOT to consider changing oneself! AND, would you believe there are 400 incredible sample affirmations which can be used, as-is, or personalized?! This book WILL change people's lives, if they follow Ruth's incredible suggestions and commit to the steps she suggests. Guidelines for becoming the woman I've always wanted to be have never been more clearly and concisely presented. Buy this book and get started RIGHT AWAY! (And, thank you, dear Ruth!)
- This book had a large impact on me. It is a sure-proof method of how to take steps toward making change in our lives. Well written easy to undertand. Ruth has a magical style that makes it a user friendly guide book. It works! I highly reccommend i.

- Ruth Fishel packs a lot of power into this small, simple book.
The first 67 pages deal with Personal Growth basics: setting intentions, how to word an affirmation powerfully. The language is simple and instruction is right on the mark without too much embellishment. Fishel does not talk down to the reader, however, which may have been a challenge for a less able author. The most powerful tool deal with the power of words and "Negative Word Blocks" and "Positive Word Releasers." Very practical and easily applied to life to make the reader's life better.
- I've read many books on how affirmations work. I picked up this one to see what it had to say. To my surprise the book is loaded with all kinds of affirmations to get you through all walks of life. It explains why they work, and why it takes 21 days to sink in the sub-concious. Well I never tried affirmations before so I gave it a shot on this one. Well I must say I started two and I am at about the 21 day mark and they seem to be working. So if you stay positive focused and motivated this should work. If you go into it with an attitude that this is garbage but I will try it you probally wont get anywhere. I am happy to say I have seen some changes in my life from the affirmations. Thanks Ruth.
- The author comes from a 12-Step background and the book talks a lot about God.
Too Judaeo-Christian for my taste. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I would have liked to have been warned.

5 comments about The Llewellyn Practical Guide To Psychic Self-Defense & Well Being (Llewelyn Practical Guides).
- It began really nice and that is why I purchased the book. But after I finished it, I was somewhat disappointed. Other than the 'tower of light' method, the underlying message I got was: Occultism is not a bad thing. The 'real' occultists are actually good people and do not mess with 'bad' magic.
Thus, the title of the book is somewhat misleading... Robert Bruce's book on the same subject is far better than this one and to the point. But I have to say the 'tower of light' technique was a valuable thing out of the whole book (that is, for me--and I am no occultist, but just someone curious about the subject and would like to learn more).
- Although an interesting read, this is simply NOT the "practical" guide I had been looking for. There is one basic aura strengthening exercise (albeit a good one) with one variant. Other than that there was simply a lot of occult information. This book also veers too far off into the wacky, imho. How many of us need to make sure we don't leave mail clippings around for our enemies who want to practice doll sorcery on us? How many of us need a ritual for cutting the tie to a doll used for doll sorcery? To me, there is simply too much of a gulf between a simple aura strengthening exercise, and talk of looking into your adversary's left eye only... I was looking for a treasury of different exercises for a wide range of situations and definitely did NOT find that here. In the end I pulled out an old book I owned, Judy Hall's "The Art of Psychic Protection" which contains a wealth of information and a TON of exercises. Go there instead if exercises are what you are after. This book fails to deliver on the "practical" in the title.
- I am glad I purchased this on the recommendation of a friend. It was well worth it. I enjoyed the book.
- Reading this book helped me to feel a better sense of well-being in this not so safe world. It made me feel stronger inside.
- I found this book originally when I was just starting out on my journey to being pagan. I found it informative especially at the time I was in my teens. It helped me at the time quite a bit, however even back then I thought the book was a bit fluffy. While it is informative to a point, the real meat of the book is only about twenty pages or so. It is still worth getting when all said and done.

5 comments about Maybe (Maybe Not) (Maybe Not : Second Thoughts from a Secret Life).
- I really liked Fulghum's casual, laid-back style of writing. "Maybe (Maybe Not)" was a very easy, fun, quick read. He's very optimistic and upbeat and tries to convey his outlook on life to his audience. He's got a lot of great thoughts from totally different areas of life. He only spends a couple of pages on one topic and moves on to something completely different. He's got a really good sense of humor and unlike most self-help type of books, he's not preachy in the least bit. Really enjoyable and highly recommended!
- I love this book, along with the rest of Robert Fulghum's books. Reminds those of us who get caught up in the rat race of life, to remember what's real and beautiful. Instant stress reliever!!! Highly recommended!!! Also visit www.robertfulghum.com/index.php to read Robert Fulghum's journal. Very humerous and inspiring!
- Robert Fulghum is the master of telling complex stories in a simple, down-home manner. As such, I think I'd be paying him tribute most effectively if I kept this review simple. Suffice to say, if you've read and enjoyed other books by Mr. Fulghum, you'll definitely enjoy this one. By all means, read it. Read it more than once! You won't regret it!
- Perhaps there is a purpose to this book that I was not made aware of, or maybe some of Fulghum's other books are required reading to comprehend the essence of his meaning; otherwise, this book proved to be nothing more than inane thoughts on tedious topics providing minimal interest. As a self professed philosopher, one would expect Fulghum to have presented at least some profound content among his thoughts; instead, we are presented with his views on why addresses are required on so many forms, where he thinks he might have been conceived, and various other haphazard topics with as much correlation as a grade school paper.
Since these are just Fulghum's thoughts on random topics, why should I have interest in what he has to say? What does Fulghum offer that I would not hear from any vocal person with more interest in hearing him/herself speak than providing intriguing reflection? I had anticipated discovering the answers to such questions would be that Fulghum, being a "philosopher" (to which there is doubt), might provide intriguing wisdom. I was sorely disappointed to discover nothing among this book that offers value or interest beyond common average chatter.
I do not mean to be overly harsh and I certainly hold no negative feelings toward the author; however, unless the alternative to reading this book amounts to staring into space, I would not advise wasting a moment on these one-dimensional observations.
- I've read and/or listened to all of Fulghum's books. This book lives up to his high standard of reading enjoyment and prys open one's introspect. Like most of his books, they end too soon.

5 comments about Kitchen Table Wisdom & My Grandfather's Blessing (2 Volume Set).
- Both books display such intelligence and compassion, along with the ability of the writer to be empathetic to the needs of almost any reader. My husband recently passed away and the books were loaned to me. After reading half of one book, I quickly decided that I must have my own copies, so I bought both books, and have not been disappointed.
- Reading this book is an experience in healing. I saw in these stories that my problems are not mine, but that problems are common to each of us. I am not alone in this no matter what the trouble is, someone else has gone through it, and that is the key; they have gone through it, lived beyond it, and are now aware of the blessing of problems. This is a book about forgiveness, conscious surrender, and expansion. It will move you to tears and laughter.
- I READ THIS WHILE TRAVELING AND IT IS A VERY INSPIRING BOOK. I LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS BOOK AND LOOK FORWARD TO STARTING THE NEXT VOLUME IN MY SET CALLED KITCHEN TABLE WISDOM.
- Both Kitchen Table Wisdom and My Grandfather's Blessings were so full of inspiration and powerful messages for anyone dealing with a life threatening disease. I also believe it is essential reading for every doctor--I'm buying a copy of these books for all my doctors to read!
Carol Silverander, Author

- Thought provoking read. Enjoy the simple and yet meaningful way Naomi interweaves the life lessons into the stories. Very good gift for ill or sad persons.
Nice book to have by the bedside and just open when seeking comfort or clarity.

1 comments about Spirit Games: 300 Fun Activities That Bring Children Comfort and Joy.
- We just got this book and we are already playing these games all of the time! The design of the book makes each game simple to understand, most of them don't need any special set up or props, and the activities are divided into age groups (2-7, 8-12, 13-15, 16+ and adult) But the book is about much more than fun activities, it is about a whole way of approaching life to find the joy in everyday situation (she includes activities to deal with getting dumped by a teenage boyfriend, on how to make important carrer choices, and on how to avoid the blues, even when they are the result of something very sad). One game I especially like is for ages 2-7, called "young ones" in the book. It is called Grouchy Food. The game is for when your child is grouchy or sad or in some other unplesant mood you say to them "Hmm, you look like you are in a grouchy mood today, I better adjust the lunch menu so you can eat what grouchy people eat. What do grouchy people eat, anyway? Worms, probably." Then you make spagehetti (we added food die until it was brown). The author notes that sad people sometimes need a little blue food coloring in their eggs, "lots of water to drink so they have extra for their tears," and "gental" pudding for dessert. How could any kid stay upset after that?! According to Barbara Sher laughter is an "organic, free, all-natural blues buster" and you and your kids will find plenty to laugh about with this book on hand.

5 comments about Quest for Respect: A Healing Guide for Survivors of Rape (Quest for Respect).
- I have read several books for survivors of rape and this one has the best ideas written most succinctly. Also, this book can be completed in one day if a person has the time.
- This is the best book I have read on the subject of rape & how to survive it. Unlike so many of the books out on rape, this is not written from a statistical aspect & how to prevent rape in the first place. This book is written totally to the survivor with exercises to help you recover from rape. If you are a victim of rape & trying to figure out how to recover from it, this is the book for you! It really made me realize that my reactions are typical of the normal victim & that there is nothing wrong with me for taking so long to recover. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been the victim of rape & is trying to become a survivor!
- I found this book very easy to read and helpful in the recovery process. It basically describes the process of going from victim to survivor. The shortness of the book did make it easier to read as I was in grad school at the time. I didn't have time to read anything besides my assignments. It addresses shame, guilt and anger and ends with solutions or ways to change thoughts and behavior (cognitive restructuring). It was a good introduction to survivor issues in a very manageable size.
If you are in crisis now you can call the national sexual assault hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE. They will forward you to a local rape crisis counselor. The crisis center can give you a referral to a rape crisis counselor, a therapist, victim advocacy (for reporting to police or going to court), provide free counseling or offer a support group. This hotline is run by RAINN.org which is the leading resource on sexual assault.
- As a therapist and survivor of rape, this book has been an essential resource for myself and so many others. This is the first book I recommend to all clients who have been raped. It can be read immediately following the rape and for years after, each time offering meaning and hope. This book may also be a guide for family and friends affected by this event, helping them better understand what the victim may be experiencing. This is a great place to begin and continue a healing journey.
- As a survivor and as a psychotherapist who has worked in the field of trauma recovery for 15 years, I found the book "Quest for Respect" the single most helpful piece of information I encountered, and I recommend it highly to survivors, family members, and their helping professionals.

- Very thought provoking with some very practical, useable and powerful ideas. I recommend it highly.
- ...i've long-since ceased buying every new hyped "self-help" book that tickes my fancy, and have developed a very streamlined discernment as to what select few books i choose to focus on; after browsing thru it, "the power of belief" profoundly struck me as indeed such a book - it seems to be "bringing home" in an effectively practical way the popular factual "new-age" concept that our beliefs certainly not only affect our day-to-day lives on the fundamental causal level, but are also simply our own personal creations that we can "re-create" anew into empowering beliefs the "negative" ones that are no longer serving us as well as energize ever further the positive ones that are

- A wonderful truth, message, teachings to be shared with all.
To me it is "common sense",however"common sense" is not so common.
I have gratitude to have been given the "GIFT"I received from what this book offered me and the continual teachings/support from Ray's website .
Well worth it.

- We need help to discover what our deep-down agreements already are. As a Senior, I can testify that it is never too late to play detective to do just that - so I am now free to make new agreements that serve my well being. I am so glad for this fantastic tool.
Gratefully, Marie Ford
- Ray Dodd apprenticed with Don Miguel Ruiz, who wrote The Four Agreements and the Mastery of Love. His influence is evident in Dodd's book, The Power of Belief.
Dodd makes the important point that belief is the power to create. He explains that it is your deepest beliefs that hold your attention and cause you to take, or avoid taking, action. Many of our beliefs come from our childhood. If left unchallenged, beliefs that don't serve us can keep us from living the life we desire.
Dodd notes that there are 4 steps to changing a belief:
1 - Practice awareness
2 - Give up the need to be right
3 - Love without limits
4 - Create a new dream
In the final section of the book, he provides us with tools to change our beliefs.
The Power of Belief is a well-written book which provides valuable advice on how to change your beliefs, and in so doing, change your life.
