5 comments about Life 101: Everything We Wish We Had Learned About Life in School--But Didn't (The Life 101 Series).
  1. This is an easy to read book full of fun quotes and profound wisdom. It tells us a lot about ourselves and guides us in dealing with the world and others. I have read it twice and have enjoyed the audio tapes when on a trip. It's a real upper.

  2. I first read this book in high school. Since then I've read the book 2 or 3 times and have learned something new each time I read it. It puts forth a great philosophy on life that has had a huge impact on my life.
One note to readers is that the book takes a long time to set everything up. I'd advise anyone reading it to stay patient for the first 100 pages. It'll be worth it in the end.

  3. Want to make a change in your life and you don't know quite how ? Buy this book and read it, chapter after chapter, leaving about a week between each to ponder and let it sink in. It'll do you and the rest of the world a lot of good.

  4. I absolutely love this book. I got it about 15 years ago when it first came out. It's a book that talks about personal growth, and about improving yourself mentally and spiritually. It teaches you to overcome obstacles, gives you inner peace of mind, and tries to instill a positive attitude for living life. It's all over the map - it talks about all sorts of stuff in a fun way without being too "serious" about itself. There are tons of uplifting and insightful quotes throughout the book, and the chapters are highly educational, inspirational, and eye openers. They are written in a non-lecture way with relative short easy to read chapters.

Highly recommended if you are the type that desires constant self improvement, are willing to try new things, and want to have a positive outlook on life. It's also quite a philosophical and spiritual book (without advocating any particular religion). The world would be better off if people followed the book's advice. The book is non-judgmental so use the parts that help you, and you don't have to use the parts that don't.

I just "found" the book again, and I am re-reading some of the chapters. Great stuff. I am reminded of how good it was.

You can see if you like the book by checking out the free online version. Just do a search for the author's name on a search engine.

  5. This is an interesting book that is worth a look. It's broken up into short, fast-moving chapters of one thought or idea. It just has a fun, uplifting quality to it.

It's kind of like horse sense on a different level. And lots of great quotes like, "If you think money can't buy happiness you don't know where to shop." This book stretches the mind a bit.

5 comments about The Power of Now: 50 Inspiration Cards.
  1. This book points to so much truth it is amazing.
I think it is well written and written in a way that makes what is very philosophical easy to understand. His message is so simple yet so profound.
I have read many, many books on spirituality and the teachings of the great teachers and none has hit home as much as this.
I think this book could easily guide someone to a life changing way of Being. It has made me want to see the world in a whole new light. I feel enlightened just writing this!!!
    I highly recommend it.

  2. I love Eckhart Tolle's work, his profound messages, and how much of a positive difference they have made in my life. Any time I pick a card from this beautiful deck, it reminds me of the peace and stillness I can have when I am completely living in the moment. Each card brings a wonderful message that is far more than simple inspiration, they are the tools to help you strengthen your inner transformation so that you CAN attain a level of inner peace, and thus be able to share it with others in your personal relationships, you career, your home, thereby making a genuine difference in our world.
Highly recommended for people on the go who could always use the profound wisdom Eckhart Tolle brings us all.

Barbara Rose, Ph.D. author of Know Yourself: A Woman's Guide to Wholeness, Radiance & Supreme Confidence and Stop Being the String Along: A Relationship Guide to Being THE ONE

  3. "Acceptance of what is immediately frees you from mind identification and thus reconnects you with Being. Resistance is the mind." - Eckhart Tolle

The profound truths found in the bestselling book The Power of Now has transformed many lives over the last few years. Author Eckhart Tolle experienced a profound, instantaneous awakening and now shares his wisdom with millions across the globe both in person and through his books and audios.

The Power of Now deck is comprised of 52 cards; the words on these cards were chosen by Tolle to convey the power of the book in a few short sentences. You can pick a card at random to contemplate its message, choose one daily and reflect on it throughout the day, or even pick a card once a week for meditation. Once you've worked your way through the whole deck, profound insights will permeate your consciousness, resulting in more joy and light and less trauma in stress. In fact, it's quite possible your entire life will change as a result of digesting and applying the wisdom found in The Power of Now deck.

The 52 cards are divided into five themes:

    * Rising above thought
    * The joy of being
    * The power of being present
    * The power of now
    * Portals to the now

The cards feature the same green and yellow color scheme as the book jacket, with the theme printed on one side and a piece of wisdom or experiment on the other. The Power of Now deck is encased in a sturdy flip-top box that opens to the side, like a book. Some examples of these inspirational ideas include:

Try A Little Experiment: Close your eyes and say to yourself, `I wonder what my next thought is going to be.' Then become very alert and wait for the next thought. Be like a cat watching a mouse hole. What thought is going to come out of the mouse hole? Try it now.

Wherever You Are, Be There Totally - If you find you're here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally. If you want to take responsibility for your life, you must choose one of those three options, and you must choose now. Then accept the consequences.

Observe How the Mind labels an unpleasant moment and how this labeling process, this continuous sitting in judgment, creates pain and unhappiness.

Are You Worried? - Do you have many `what if' thoughts? You are identified with your mind, which is projecting itself into an imaginary future situation and creating fear. There is no way that you can cope with such a situation, because it doesn't exist. It's a mental phantom.

On a personal note, I have found the profound yet simple wisdom of The Power of Now to be utterly transforming. The insights found in the book and in this deck lift burdens, promotes clarity, and results in peace. Tolle has provided amazing tools to transform your life into one of grace, ease, and lightness. I know it's been true for me, as it has for millions of people worldwide.

(To see 3 card images from this deck, visit the Reviews--Decks section at http://JanetBoyer.com)

  4. Do not get lost in the words that these cards convey. As Tolle would say;"the words are only pointers, they point to the truth, but are not the truth that they point to." Let each card inspire you to go beyond the words and you will feel your Being that is always there yet obscured by identification with the mind.
You don't really need these inspiration cards because you are always already free. You are the deep peace, space and love that you search for. That is already the case. If you are not experiencing peace, sapce, love, a lightness in evrything that you do, feel, or say, then allow these cards to take you to the cliff and then let go of the saftey net. You already are!

  5. I like pulling a card at the beginning of the day. I focus on that concept throughout the day. The cards are an easy way to work with the concepts vs. carrying around the book.

5 comments about Your Perfect Right: A Guide to Assertive Living.
  1. The table of contents and general outline were acceptable.

The reference to diet affecting assertiveness was a big stretch.

The bibliography was difficult to corroborate and certain references to books were not found when searching for them by using Amazon.com

The book is worth less than the price asked.

  2. This is a time honored book that teaches individuals how to be themselves with dignity. If you have ever felt that you can't say no, or that you can't ask for something that 'belongs' to you then this is a great text. It is easy to read and well illustrated with examples of its teaching. A Primer of sorts for all who want to live their lives fully. Remember this teaches about being assertive and that is not a 4-letter word. enjoy

  3. The best written and most complete non-technical book on assertiveness training available. A clear, even handed guide to the behavior and thinking changes required to become more assertive. Very practical in its approach.

  4. I thought the advice given was nothing new, cliche-ish and thus very uninspiring. The book often refers the reader to other books for what I believe it lacked--depth and focus. Also I disagree with the writers idea of how to handle anger. They mention how, in early editions of this book, they had encouraged readers to physically express anger safely but now recommend verbal expression instead. The importance of safe physical expression of anger is clearly and effectively explained in John Lee's "Facing the Fire"--a must-read for anyone having issues over anger especially suppressed anger left over from the past.

  5. This book is the definitive text on re-learning communication. I have used it for myself and taught programs using this as the primary guide. These tools are very effective and the book is an excellent resource.

5 comments about Inner Talk for A Confident Day (The Fear-Less Series).
  1. I've never wrote a review on Amazon before but Susan Jeffers deserves high praise for this affirmation CD. I got hooked on Jeffers after reading "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" about 6 years ago. That book positively changed my life and was bursting with great information. This inner talk tape is so good I wore out 3 cassette tapes already so I'm very happy to see it is on CD. I never get bored of listening to it. After listening, everything is put back in perspective and you feel empowered to know the affirmations aren't just a pep talk but the confidence you've had in you all along. You will be sincerely happy you bought this CD!

  2. Hi there, not had the cd long, but play it in the mornin to get me in the mood for the day ahead. Plus on a day when I feel a bit stressed out, listen to it during the day as well. Very much a wake up cd than a relaxing one, altho I have ordered the other cd to go along with this one. I feel somedays it works and I no that I also have to work at feelin positive which can be hard some days, but I would recommend this cd to others as a great pick me up and a way with copin with everyday life

  3. I was dissapointed that this cd contained very little in the way of affirmations, making it more of a new age music cd of 15 short tracks. I think that the purpose of this cd would have been better served with the music as a background to affirmations, as opposed to a music cd with an affirmation or two as almost an afterthought.

  4. I love Susan Jeffers! Her book Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway has helped me clarify what is important to me, who I want to be in the world, and the kind of life I want to live. Her works are so congruent with my own personal journey toward wholeness. I recommend that you read the book first. If it resonates with you, then you'll want her three Inner Talk CDs. I listen to Inner Talk for a Confident Day and Inner Talk for Peace of Mind almost every day. They help me achieve inward peace and remind me of what is truly important in my life. I admit that I have only listened to Inner Talk for a Love that Works a few times because it's not totally relevant to my life at the moment, but it too is very good. I could go on and on about her books and CDs. I recommend her works for anybody desiring joy, peace, love, and fulfillment in their life. She is practical, uplifting, and hugely encouraging.

  5. I listen to this CD every day. I would prefer different music for the non-talking parts of the CD.

5 comments about It's Not About the Horse.
  1. I can honestly say I that after reading the reviews on this book I was ready to enjoy it, then and despite the initial disappointment I tried to go on reading it with an open and non judgmental mind... but I respect myself too much and half way through I just couldn't put up anymore with its hollow and trite contents, the corny personal anecdotes and self absorption of the author plus the thinly disguised efforts to market his own product.

In fact, the only 'help' I did get from it, was the following idea:
"Why don't you write your own 'myself'-help book and then ask family, friends, colleagues and clients to review it with 5 stars on Amazon, so that you can make enough money to buy a ranch and breed horses."

If only that were what I wanted to do with my life. ;o)

Seriously now, if you're interested in learning about growing as a human being, just skip this one and spend your time and/or money in something more worthwhile...

PS.- No hard feelings Wyatt, just spend my $10 on feeding the horses and please end your writing career ASAP. Thank you.

  2. This book is more of an autobiography than anything else. Didn't do what it said on the tin for me.

  3. Once I started this book-I read it in a few hours. It kept my interest the entire time. It doesn't weigh itself down and slow down the thought with little bits of things like"studies show" or according to blah blah blah. You get the idea-it is a really good book and I will probably read it again which I rarely do.

  4. Great book for anyone who thinks there is no hope. Animal therapy, specifically horses, proves to be a type of therapy that can reach people who cannot participate in traditional counseling sessions. Facinating!

  5. If you have horses this is so easy to relate to. They reflect you and don't let you get away with anything. What a light book to remind you of that. Makes me want to go to Arizona and go through his program.

5 comments about Affirmations for the Inner Child.
  1. I read this book in 1991 and many times since. It is a precious book that I hate to lend to anyone else for fear I might not get it back but really really want other people to get to know it.These Afirmations are done with a calendar date on each page and that is how I used them the first time through now I use the index in the back of the book to choose the topic I need a particular day. The little stories let me feel safe and right and ok with where I am.They teach me different ways of looking at myself so I can put down the baseball bat that I use to beat myself with. They help me make sense of my thinking which without this book seemed to be the thoughts of a crazy woman. Long after the hoopla of the Inner Child revolution stuff has past this book stands out as one of if not the most meaningful book I have read. I thank you from the bottom of my heart Rokelle Lerner.

  2. I believe this little daily meditation book was designed to be read by the calendar date indicated on each page. If you are looking for some sense of direction this book is an absolute MUST. Even if you read it by just letting the book open to any page, you will find that there's something going on in your life TODAY that the daily reading will address. These are ideas on which to focus as you go through your day with simple ways to shift your perception of the events in your life. This is a way to sense and enjoy freedom each and every day. Remember that though you may have forgotten times in your life, the child that lives within you has memory of everything and you now have the opportunity to re-train your child into a serene, responsible, joy-filled adult. Take 5 minutes to give you a wonderful gift first thing every morning when you awaken.

  3. this is a kind of book that everybody who needs a help to start the day with good feelings and strong faith, I enjoy to read it every day.

  4. Excellent book with daily affirmations to start off each day. Difficult to obtain in Australia so ordering through Amazon made it a lot easier.

  5. This daily meditation book is full of healing gems. Anyone doing inner child work, or interested in inner child work ought to be able to benefit from the ideas here. Brilliant and beautiful... this little book is a work of art.

5 comments about Boundaries: When to Say Yes, When to Say No-To Take Control of Your Life (Inspirio/Zondervan Miniature Editions).
  1. Written by psychologists and incorporating a Biblical perspective, Cloud and Townsend offer anecdotal, clinical and spiritual evidence as they explain the need for limits in our lives. Individual chapters address specific relational areas, e.g. family, marriage, children, workplace. The language and terminology are easy to understand, and the overall tone is encouraging.

  2. for those like me who think God left it up to me to do his work and for others who just don't know how to keep someone out of their space, this book is perfect. it was a life changer for me. now i just remind myself "boundries" and know that God didn't leave me in charge down here, that he is in charge and working on al situations. it let me know that i am interfering with his work. i can now sleep at night knowing that he is in charge and that it's not up to me to fix up everyones lives

  3. the beginning was kinda slow, but once you get passsed it, it had really helpful and pertinent information in a much easier format.

  4. Great explaination of the constant struggle to maintain a healty border in your life. Let the good in and the bad out. Detailed explaination and easy read. Like any other book, not a instant life "fixer" but does have application to a better you.

  5. We all need to learn healthy bouderies to let good people in & keep unhealthy people out. Good "how to" book.

5 comments about Life Lessons For My Sisters: How to Make Wise Choices and Live a Life You Love!.
  1. This had everything from poetry to insight and it was all spoken from real life experiences the author lived through. Like another reviewer said, all the topics was followed by a summary that showed a outline of the main points. This book was informative and inspirational and gives teenage girls the best advice they could ever have, to love themselves before they can love others.

  2. I have literally read this book 4 times and each time I re-read it I gain new insight into my life. A good gift for any girlfriend and or teenager going through life's difficulties.

  3. Life lesson # 120: Share your knowledge.

The first thing I thought when I finished this book was that I wish I had money like Oprah to buy a copy for every woman that I know and meet. It is ageless and colorless in it's message. I'm in my 30s and I felt like the book was written just for me at this exact moment in my life. I plan to start 2008 with a new perspective and this book is will be a constant reference. Thank you Ms Munson!

  4. Yes Natasha wrote this book and with me being a young adult her book really inform me on alot of things us young women need to know! I'm glad that I found this book. I was just walk down the aisle in the nonfiction section at the public library looking for good book to read and this book caught my eye. I'm glad that I read it and many other women should to also. Its show alot how to love yourself, be yourself, and create a life that you will love. I've learn that now for myself!!!!

  5. This is a great book to read. And the only book anyone in their early 20s need to read. The book really hit home for me and I wish I read it when I was younger. But I'm glad to have it now.

4 comments about Loving Yourself: Four Steps to a Happier You.
  1. This book makes for a good thinker for you to stop and try to see what it is about yourself that you may or may not love and how to change that. It could be better, but it is a good one to have and I am glad I bought it.

  2. Daphne Rose Kingma has written a beautiful book on being the love of your own life and to stop seeking it outside. The hardest path to love is that when it is yourself. Ironic when most people seek to be loved by another without ever trying to love themselves. Many relationships are about feeling valuable because someone else, also imperfect, loves you but without them you are nothing. Consider investing all your energy in an act of power and love ... and loving yourself like nothing else.

  3. Speak Out, Act Out, Clear Out and Set Out are four directives that we can use to respect ourselves and present ourselves to others. Kingma gives helpful, specific examples of how each of these are paths to self love. The book also provides vignettes illustrating ways in which people do not express self love, and asks readers to examine their own feelings of self worth and behaviors. She describes "life themes" which shape our values and our actions. The message is positive and affirming. Readers may choose how deeply they want to delve into their emotions and history. I will re-read this book more than once!

  4. Of the many Daphne Kingma books I have read over the years, this is my favorite. Why? Because in this little volume readers get a real, "up close and personal" look at a much admired author who candidly shares just how much she has struggled with loving herself too. Daphne scores big with this one, reminding us that if we really do want "big love" in our lives, we absolutely have to love ourselves first. Then she expertly sets out to show us how. The path she lays out for us is tried and true. Her advice works--if we are willing to do the work of self--not always easy, but ultimately rewarding.

I especially enjoyed the last chapter in the book, "Living with Self-Compassion," and reading about the author's remarkable journey hiking through Bhutan in the Himalayas. It is an amazing quest, one, which Daphne reminds us is symbolic of the inner journey we must all take if we are to arrive at a place of compassion for ourselves and, ultimately, others.
