5 comments about Ready, Set, Relax : A Research-Based Program of Relaxation, Learning and Self-Esteem for Children.
  1. Ready, Set, Relax provides teachers and parents with an important resource for helping young children learn valuable self-regulation skills. Jeff Allen and Roger Klein make us aware that learning requires both physical and mental preparation. By introducing physical relaxation and positive mental imaging skills into the classroom environment, children develop essential learning prerequisites, increase self-confidence, and enrich creative interactions between teacher and child. The lessons of Ready, Set, Relax should be eagerly integrated into every elementary school curricula.

  2. This book offers many wonderful tools to help children relax, reinforce their value, and visualize a fantastic episode of imagination. It is organized and cross referenced which makes it easy to quickly find just the right message of the day. I teach yoga to 5th graders who now beg for "relaxation at the end of class". Some of the kids have ADHD, autism, and other learning differences. This has been one tool that will never get old or redundant. It spans a broad age range. I have coordinated some of the stories a week before big achievement tests which seems to help the kids with a bit of empowerment. Nothing speaks to the success of my class like having children ask to borrow my books, DVDs, or my music. I would like to know of a better book or another book like this one since it has been such a huge hit with everyone.

  3. Lots of "I am calm" and "I am relaxed" affirmations. Very good selection of "scripts" which are short visualizations meant to relax children. This is very mainstream and a great way to introduce children to relaxation. Great emphasis on breathing however, to teach the mechanics of proper breathing, I have coupled this with Indigo Dreams and The Children's Awareness Curriculum. The kids really enjoy relaxing and love talking about the visualizations in Ready Set Relax. Great way to teach children, especially if you are short on time.

  4. Great book for short relaxation scripts, with lots of em. I have used them with several kids so far (I am a child therapist) and they seem to like them. However, you can also find lots of relaxation scripts on the web and elsewhere...so if you want them all handy and in one place, buy the book. If you can be patient and scrounge together your own, go for that.

  5. 1.2.3. Relax is a book that lays down facts and then give you solutions and scripts. I found this book very good and worthwhile. Can be used effectively with adults.

  1. This book has answered so many long held questions with perfect clarity and understanding.

I've been studing the law of attraction for over 6 years and find this book to fill in the spiritual aspects that seemed to be missing from so many other authors and teachers.

Thank you Carol for your wisdom and gifts.

  2. This book is really wonderful. A definite read. The chapters are short, written in big writing and the message and positive living and her own experiences and her learning makes this an amazing book. Living for Christ and worshiopping and her own beliefs sharing them that has helped her in writing this book and sharing with others how to do and live the same ways for a peaceful and joyous life. I love it and plan on reading this book again.

  3. This book is incredible! full of such great life changing things, it will change the way you think and the way you view the power of your own thoughts! very remarkable

  4. The concepts of choosing to do things to each other here on earth that would cause us to have to forgive is not a concept of God "brokering" these contracts. That seems a little exaggerated. The idea behind the "little spirit" is simply this. When we choose to see our perpetrators as something other than perpetrators it becomes easier to forgive them.

We choose to do things that require forgiveness all the time, sometimes out of ignorance and regretfully on purpose, but on some level, we CHOSE to do it. Do I believe that we make contracts with each other to inflict pain and suffering before we came to earth? No, but it was a given that we would submit to evil, and do things that would require forgiveness and when we can see our offenders as perfect spirits who have been caught in evil, it is so much easier to forgive and let God handle it.

There is darkness and light in every book written by the hand of man. He who seeks for fault will find it, he who seeks for truth will find it as well. No one should claim this book to be scripture, and ANYTHING written by men is "the philosophies of men mingled with scripture" unless otherwise specified as scripture. Look at the light this book brings. I have had multiple personal experiences of transformational healing for myself my family and my clients as a Rapid Eye Technician and Life Coach. The concepts of this book can bring people to Christ. Carol has a gift in making practical sense out of vague concepts. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, see the fruits, they are there.

  5. I am repeatedly blown away by this book! It has been so helpful to me personally, and I share it with those I love. I would read certain sections, and literally, my jaw would drop. This book really put all the pieces together for me; it makes complete sense. I am only 21 and feel I am lucky, not only because my mother gave me this book, but also because I have truly understood it at a relatively young age. "Remembering Wholeness" is eye opening and empowering at the same time. One of my favorite chapters is the one titled, "The Universe is Abundant"...definitely one of those jaw-dropping sections!!
    A MUST-READ!!! :)

  1. I have two children and they love this book. When they feel afraid, they repeat Louise's words: "There is nothing here for me to fear -- I am safe and well protected."

  2. I bought this book to read to my grandchildren. It has wonderful positive messages that I can only imagine will fill their little minds with great thoughts. I certainly wish I had had this available in my day.

2 comments about Letting Go of Shame: Understanding How Shame Affects Your Life.
  1. Letting Go of Shame is an excellent self help guide. Each chapter ends with practical excercises. The material is presented in an orderly fasion, working through the issues one by one. The positive role that shame plays is covered, but the focal issue is toxic shame. It is easy for the reader to identify with symptomatic consequences of shame as each source of shame is presented. It is complementary to Bradshaw's classic book on the subject and in many ways is a simpler presentation for the novice. Complex and technical language is avoided. This is a practical self help guide for anyone dealing with the self inflicting pain caused by shame.

  2. Even normal people from normal families have a certain amount of shame. This book helps to identify, personalize and deal with the shame that we have been piling on ourselves since childhood. Make sure you do the exercises at the end of each chapter. They are very valuable.

5 comments about Yearnings: Embracing the Sacred Messiness of Life.
  1. I found it a bit difficult to read cover to cover because of it's intensity. But I still thouroughly enjoyed the book when I jumped around to read sections relevant to my life. It has something for everyone. Its a kind of book that needs to be re read a few times to get all the meanings. Overall a very nourishing book

  2. This review pertains to the audio version, and is read by the author. I am a spiritual counselor and an ordained minister. However, my daily work is in the financial industry. I point this out only to give the reader a perspective.

If you have any interest at all in a real understanding of God and life, please read this book. Rabbi Irwin Kula shares wonderful insights and wisdom into why our perception and expectations of life are they way they are. He also helps readers to see the simplicity of our personal universe when given another, perhaps more considered, viewpoint.

There is a lot of rich material for thought and enlightenment here, so take your time and enjoy what Rabbi Kula teaches. For me it was like eating a great meal, every mouthful to be savored and all the food healthy and nourishing.

  3. I have read this book twice. I will read it again. Whatever your spiritual belief, whatever your level of faith is or is not, you will be influenced by Rabbi Kula. His fundemental logical conclusions on what make all humans tick is right down the pike. The book is not a polyanna fix for all life's woes but it is sound advice on how to improve your life and improve the lives of the ones around you. You will cherish the read and you will recommend to others..... you can't not!

  4. "Yearnings" opens doors and grants the reader an inner journey of redefining personal, daily life. thank you.

  5. I enjoyed this book myself, then one of our guest writers at our online magazine, [...], Gail Katz, wrote her own recommendation of Rabbi Kula's book.

Gail points out that, as a Jewish woman, this book touched her -- but I can also recommend this to a broader audience, as well.

The entire concept of the book is fresh and appealing because -- let's be honest -- most of us do not lead perfectly organized lives. Our lives are not only messy -- they're filled with ambiguity and daily friction. We love our family, for example, but we question -- and sometimes deeply disagree -- with some family members. The messiness extends further into our workplaces, communities and world.

Rabbi Kula is trying to provide a spiritual framework for accepting that messiness as part of life's pilgrimage. Rather than trying to escape it, he argues, we should realize that a certain messiness is the fabric of life itself. The challenge is where we will allow our yearnings to carry us in this pilgrimage through the mess.

  1. I was given a copy of this book when I was twenty and it honestly changed my life. It made me realize that I wasn't alone in the thoughts, doubts, fears, and "aches of inadequacy" that I was going through. This book is an open heart spilled onto the page/canvas and any young woman going through life with any amount of uncertainty and lonliness will benefit tremendously from just being with this book.

  2. best book everywhere..i take it everywhere with me, its a wake up call to life i think/

  3. As an Artist and a Graphic designer I found this book abolutely inspiring. It encouraged me to create my own journal which has become a major part of my creative process. This is a great way to put ideas together and from there find answers about my work and myself.

  4. Sabrina Ward Harrison has always been a huge source of inspiration for me, and I turn to her books over and over again for inspiration, beauty, honesty and layers of intriguing details. A wonderful gift of yourself and anyone in your life interested in the art of becoming their most authentic selves.

  5. Seriously.

I got this book when I decided to start journaling my own ordeal with breast cancer. As a former architect, I have some drawing skills still, but they're rusty. So I got this book in order to kick my creative juices into high gear.

The pages are all so similar. Similar colors, similar self-depricating thoughts and self doubt, similar media and technique (no, SAME technique and media)

While I could appreciate a page or two, a whole book of this "I hate myself, and I need to be loved" BS was a bit much.

I probably would have churned out a similar, steaming pile at the age of 21, but at 42, I'm looking for more variety, more design elements, more work and less blah-blah about how much she worries about having freckles, (gee, would I offer to trade cancer for freckles? Hmm.) And similar stuff.

It's enough to find this at any bookstore and leaf through it in 2 or 3 minutes, you will not devour, or refer back to anything here.

5 comments about Born To Win: Transactional Analysis With Gestalt Experiments.
  1. I have been a practicing pychologist for almost thirty years. have my original yellowed copy with broken back, prominant on my shelf. I refer people to this book and work them through it as a course in thinking and feeling change!

It is clear and understandable. I was taught Transactional Analysis by my Clinical professor. We also used TA in the theraputic community when I was a prison psychologist. The authors combine gestalt process along with transactional models. Eric Berne the creator of TA was trained in Freudian Psychology so there is some parallels. But the language is concrete and the sources of the content are tangible. It is a process oriented book, with some insight thrown in.

There is criticism about a lack of philosophical orientation, but I continue to recomend this book after many years, and send my patients/clients out to find it. Hopefully we will continue to keep it being published.

Possibly an updated version? Why? You may not be old enough to remember when the grocery store gave out gold and green stamps for merchandise redemtion? So the idea of collecting stamps as a way of describing building up feelings of injustice may be confusing.

I have used this as a text in bibliotherapy for some clients who radically changed there lives before my eyes.

I highly recomend this book! I actually do! In my practice!

  2. By looking at the previous reviews I had great hopes of learning something useful from the book. I am greatly disappointed there is nothing to learn. there is nothing more than common sense in the book. I am sorry may be I should say common sense of blabbering people. It is like saying if u are able to see it means there light there. or may be if it is looking like a day there is sun there etc. We all know how many different ways we feel and behave , like some times we are angry sometimes we are sad some times we are contemplative etc. We do not need a book from so called psychologists to say that. If u can read some religious book like bagavad gita or koran or bible they will give 1000 times more wisdom and and also show us a path to go by to improve ourselves.
I recommand the book "The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran " to get great insights into the issues we deal with in our lives. Here this book is given one star, because the s/w does not permit me to give 0 stars.I am hoping to save precious time of some people intending to read this book, by this review.

  3. I have a degree in counseling with a minor in psychology. Through the years I have read and studied many psychology books and texts. This is one I consistently come back to and I think that says a lot. For a layman's understanding of basic human behavior, I have only found one other book that has been as useful (Talking to Yourself - Pamela Butler).

  4. This book was very enlightening to say the least. It is not the easiest book to read in that it is disturbing. It brings to light the fact that none of us are singular in the world of emotional pain.

  5. BORN TO WIN is both for therapists working with couples, groups or individuals and for Mainstreet people a book of insight and help how to communicate in an honest but never hurtful way. Buy it, read it, practice it! And have fun!

5 comments about 40 Day Prosperity Plan.
  1. Very informative with high energy...The kind of exercise I have been looking for.

  2. I was not familiar with John Randolf Price before buying this CD and if I had known what I was buying I would have passed. No where on the front cover or on his book "The Abundance Book" does it tell you that it is a scripture based program. I was taken a little by surprise with all of the bible references and call me naive but I was not expecting that. I listened to the CD a couple of times and there are some good ideas but with so much bible reference it was not really for me. None of the printed material pointed to the content being scripture based and personally I think it should have been presented in a more straightforward way on the packaging.

  3. John Randolph Price knows things that most people do not know. The best thing about the 40 Day Prosperity Plan is that one does not have to fully understand it for it to work. I keep mine playing in my car cd player all the time and my finances just keep getting better and better. Gradually, I am understanding more and more of the high concepts that he shares. Thank you, JRP!

  4. I'm about 2 weeks into this 40 Day Prosperity Plan, using the CD version of the book. Initially, I loved to listen while I walked on the otherwise dull treadmill, or as I relaxed in the tub. That's how it all began. NOW, I am so immersed that I meditate each morning and evening, and I have fully begun to really understand the concepts. It will possibly take me the full 40 days, and that's okay, because I really am becoming addicted to the soothing sound of JRP's voice. It does, however, make good sense to buy the written version so that the meditations are easier memorized and meditated upon. The biblical references were something I needed to adjust to, considering myself non-denominational. However, that was easily rectified as I claim my own definition of God Source. I'll check back once my 40 days are up and let you know how the program is working for me. Thanks Price, for another priceless package. I thoroughly enjoyed the Super Beings years ago. And it looks as if this 40 Day Prosperity Plan is another winner! Blessings in the Mire

  5. After I bought this CD and the Abundance book in hardcover, I noticed the CD comes free with the book. I gave a friend one of the CDs, and we worked through the instructions together with positive results.

Some reviewers have complained about the many spiritual references to the Bible. Please do not let that deter you from doing the exercises on this CD. These exercises will help you become aware of your real beliefs about money and wealth, and help you finally shake lack in your life.

I strongly recommend getting the companion Abundance book in hardcover. It not only has this CD for free, but revised the text since the original 1987 edition.

5 comments about Dear Mom Thank You For Everything.
  1. While the pictures were kind of cute and the message endearing, there were many parts of it that did not really realte to my relationship with my mother. Some parts are too specific to the author's relationship with his mother so that it may not make sense if you were to give it to your mother.

  2. This narrative is full of black and white photographs of animals, most of which are young. The writing is on the generic side for gift books as Greive recounts broad experiences typically shared between mothers and their children not clearly showing what "everything" is. The tone of the writing feels akin to a letter that has been broken up to a sentence or phrase per picture/page, though the enjambment is well distributed offering a poetic feel to each passage. Overall this makes a fine book as a thank you gift but shouldn't be a substitute for a sincere, heartfelt note thanking a mother for her lifelong commitment of love and defining what "everything" really is. In fact, the text is a strong source of inspiration for writing this kind of mother thank you note.

  3. Could not put it down. The inherent wisdom in this book amazed me. I bought several copies and gave them to all of my siblings. This book is a true treasure.

  4. Every book in this series is so adorable. Each one tugs at your heart and captures a true emotion.

    Priceless.

  5. My daughter always knows the best gift to get me. Last mother's day she got me this book along with a card that has her voice recorded (people who invent this stuff will always get a mother to smile or cry with joy).

The book is a collection of statements expressing love and gratitude, some of them are very sweet and others are very funny. In every page, there is a picture of a mother/baby animal that is carefully selected to go with every statement.

Books like that are simply precious treasures....

5 comments about Life Strategies for Teens.
  1. It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself. I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!) There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ...

  2. well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

  3. I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.

This book helped me through the toughest times in my life, it works with you and helps you see what is behind the "my life is perfect" mask that so many teens have. Amazing book, it changed who I am and how I act. For instance, in one chapter it talks about how in arguments if you just talk even if someone is yelling at you, you are not being passive, but in turn arguments turn into talks a lot more often. So as a test i followed this advice becuase i had just moved in with a step-sister my own age and we were not getting along very well. Now, that we stopped fighting (and i give all credit to this book) we are able to talk about what is bothering us and not fight. We couldnt be closer now. And that is exactally the reason i would recommend this book to ANYONE, it helps with topics like that without barking orders or telling you what you need to do or you suck as was stated above. This is an EXCELLENT book. BEST BOOK I EVER READ!!!!!

  4. The transcation went smoothly, the book arrived sooner than expected, and was in perfect condition.

  5. this book was purchased by me for my granddaughter. i read the book before giving it to her for her birthday she has read it and tells she finds it very helpful and has shared some of the book with her younger sister. i treasure any info that can help my grand daughters have a better life. lmr
