5 comments about The No-Cry Sleep Solution: Gentle Ways to Help Your Baby Sleep Through the Night.
- At first when I read this book it seemed too involved and I was a tad bit turned off by what seemed like a lot of work. I set the book aside and admittedly didn't follow it to the T. I did however implement some of the basic ideas, no nursing/sucking to sleep and gradually assisting to sleep less and less etc and what I have now is a baby that puts himself to sleep without ever having to let him cry it out. I did try the cry it out method, I tried it after reading this book thinking that this book was too involved but I just couldn't do it and I don't think my son had the personality for it too. So back to the book I went. To my total shock I started noticing I was doing less and less to assist him to sleep until I just started trying to put him down awake (sleepy of course and after a good dose of cuddling too) and he would just roll over and go to sleep. I am truly impressed I really didn't think there was ever any possibility that a baby would eventually be able to put himself to sleep without some form of crying it out. Not my little man, we did it!! He is six months, I read this book when he was less then three months old and just started implementing the suggestions prior to any habits forming. I think that is vital, to start this BEFORE you develop any bad sleep habits. Also I am pretty sure had I followed this book with more dedication he would have been putting himself to sleep a lot sooner but hey, I did what was comfortable for me and my family and it worked out all without having to leave him to cry it out in a hysterical fit of sadness and frustration. I am a happy mama!!!
- I really delved into this book hoping this would be the solution for my baby. I think perhaps if I had gotten my hands on it when my baby was younger I would have had more success. My baby is four months and just won't go to sleep on her own no matter what I tried. She was still crying every night and inevitably I still ended up rocking her back to sleep. On the upside this book has helped me establish a more consistent routine which I think really works for my baby. Now if only I could get some help on how to get baby to sleep without crying...
- The concepts are basic and common sense. It's just incredibly difficult to implement them when you are working and already sleep deprived.
- I had great success when using this book when my daughter (now almost 5) was a baby. My husband and I were exhausted - she was born a month early and had sleep issues almost from the word "go." Once we read this book and started incorporating some of the suggestions, her sleep habits were right where they needed to be.
- As a working Mom of two this book was a great help to me! My first child was not always the best sleeper and after a year of going to work surviving with my IV of coffee in the morning, my sister gave me this book. Before getting this book, we did try to let my daughter "cry it out", only to watch her throw up in her crib from being so upset- I knew that wasn't an option ever again!! This book works- thanks sis!Mommy's High Heel Shoes

5 comments about Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires; The Respect He Desperately Needs.
- I have bought approximately 5 copies of this book and given them away to friends. I have used it to teach small groups on the power of living relationships the way they are intended to be lived. I have also realized the power of this book in my own marriage and family life. It is great!
- This book is amazing! Definitely recommend reading/listening to it and incorporating it's information into one's life!!!
- I am a senior citizen and wish that I had read this 50 years ago. It is the most easily understood explanation I have ever read about the differences in the way men and women view things. It is extremely helpful in the marriage relationship, both for a first marriage and also for blended families - and I have had both.
- Love and Respect encourages both actions and words to communicate the real message between husband and wife. Excellent advice; well narrated; thought provoking. We listened to it together; discussed areas that applied to us and gained insight into the WHY we-react-as-we-do .
The only comment we really have is: How were couples able to figure out all this information before counsellors?
- Dr. Eggerichs has a great idea incorporating respect into your marriage. He writes as if you've already read a lot of books on love, and harps on the wife a lot. If you can get past the fairly strict gender rolls he ascribes to and read the book for the overall concept of respecting your partner, then this will be a great help for your marriage. I highly recommend reading the appendices. In some cases, I found those to be written better than the actual book.

5 comments about Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself.
- This book is a sanity saver. There are some inspirational things to take away from reading it. Beattie injects her own life story into this self-help book. Coupled with her other books, it makes for reflective and well written advice.
- I haven't finished reading it yet but just by reading introduction and couple of chapters, I knew that book was what I was searching for... It is just what I need to get through difficult time...
- This book was a huuge eye opener for me. If you believe you might be codependent or want to find out more on the subject- this book is for you. It contains many examples of real people; as well as a list of habits and traits a codependent generally possesses. It also offers helpful tips to break the cycle and possibly change your life. I recommend this for anyone who is, thinks they might be, or have a codependent in their life.
- This is the book that started it all. I know it is cliché but, this book has changed my life and my thinking...
I was talking to my father on the phone one day and I was explaining to him how I have no problem exercising and eating right when Otty is gone but I can't seem to keep it up when he is home. My father then asked me if I wanted to know what that was called...he told me it was called co-dependence and that I should start learning about this by reading a book called Co-dependent No More. I pretty much ran out right away and purchased the book.
Now, I have never been a big advocate for self-improvement books, but I have to say that this book was very enlightening. Co-dependency has a different definition for everyone. This book made me delve into my own retched thoughts and confront them head on.
This book made me realize that I have a voice and an opinion and both matter just as much as the next person. I realized that I can make decisions and not have to worry if my opinion is what other people may think or want. My opinion is exactly that...my opinion. It is okay to have an opinion that is different than someone else's.
I also learned that I need to detach myself from the people in my life that cause me harm...emotionally, physically, doesn't matter...
Though I may not struggle with an abusive alcoholic, I still struggle with the internal doubts and feelings of self worthlessness. I have learned that I do not need to immerse myself so deeply in someone else's life that I lose myself. I can keep my individuality while sharing my life with another. If we have conflicting views...that's alright.
When I first read this book, I figure that I would not post my feelings about it because they were too personal. However, now having some distance from the book and being able to employ the lessons I have learned, I am able to share myself with others.
I am not perfect and it is absolutely acceptable for me to let other people know this. Maybe, by sharing these thoughts, someone else might be inspired to read this book and better themselves as well.
- This book gives you tools to break destuctive behavoirs that all co dependents have . It is very freeing and unlike most books give you something to do instead of just describing the problem. I have given this book to many who were blessed as well.

5 comments about The Vaccine Book: Making the Right Decision for Your Child (Sears Parenting Library).
- This book is great! It's very informative- discussing each disease, the incidence, what's in the vaccines and side effects. It's also very funny! That's an accomplishment given the subject matter! Dr. Bob gives the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine schedule, and alternate schedules- one with all the vaccines spaced out and one with "core" vaccines. I found it very helpful- definitely recommend it, and already have to everyone I know with a baby or a baby on the way.
- This book is very well laid out and informative. It is not biased either pro or con vaccines; it is just an information source. If you want to learn about what vaccines are out there, what is in them, what the diseases are, etc. then this is the book for you.
- I got this book after my cousins child had a bad reaction to a vaccine. This book is easy to understand. It's set up so you don't have to read it cover to cover, but can read the sections that partain to you. Perfect for parents who are middle-of-the-road, want to vaccinate their children, but also want to be selective.
- Vaccines are such an issue these days. I loved that this book really talked about the pros and cons of each vaccine but it was a bit overwhelming. In the end I felt like I really didn't know what to do. I like the educational value of this book, but be prepared!
- As a writer specializing in autism and developmental delays, I am frequently asked for advice about safe vaccination. I am so impressed I am with the job that Dr. Sears has done with this book. It is thoroughly researched and well-organized. Most importantly, it is easy to read.
I especially appreciate the fact that Dr. Sears kept his tone neutral throughout the book, making it possible for parents and professionals to make informed decisions without feeling alienated because of their beliefs. This is a book I will be recommending to those inside and outside of the autism community. I cannot think of a better gift for expecting parents.

5 comments about Rules of the Game.
- I read "The Game" and naturally wanted to follow it up with "Rules of the Game" when I found out Neil got back into the pick-up scene. Turns out, it's a little less interesting the second time around when it seems like he's doing it out of notoriety. I mean, it was interesting the first time because he was a no one getting everything he wanted--both physically and professionally--as a result of making use of the tools he is advertising here. Then he has a major epiphany and moves on with his life. Turns out since there's still money to be made, he's back. I'm not bitter, just bored.
- If you have the courage to follow this program then you will figure out the world of dating! But the biggest thing I feel you will get out of this book if self confidence. That's the number 1 key to meeting and attracting women! Get this book and learn it, know it and live it in that order. You will not be disappointed unless your a Chump. If you don't get "it" then your helpless and a true Chode! You have no more excuses!
- I first read the game when I heard of a friend talking about it. I tell you what it was a comical book it was hilarious. What made it even more entertaining is being a hypnotist and seeing waking hypnosis in play, fantastic!
This one though. WHAT HAPPENED! This is for a loser who is social incompetent. The author tried to turn it into a self help thing. I read about 5 pages and through it out! What a waste!
Look no offense to the guys out there that have trouble talking to women or have trouble picking up, but it all has to do with your communications skills to your self and certainty when it comes to picking up. If you were CERTAIN that when spoke to a girl that she liked you, I'm telling they will like you. You don't have to use gimmicks and steps that are given in these two books.
- Loved The Game, but thought Rules could have included more information. Also recommend Secrets of the A Game by Logan Edwards and The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed by Mystery.
- This "rules" book pretty much covers all you need to know about how to play the game of love. Lots of good, solid advice and lots of advice that makes complete and total sense. Mr. Strauss has gone it again. Highly recommended, along with The Exclusive Layguide: When Dating and Having Sex with Incredibly Hot Women is No Longer Mirage Even If You Don't Look Like a Model or Don't Make a Fortune

5 comments about Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High.
- I have given this book to a number of people. It truly is a good read. Very helpful. For those of us that can be a bit timid....buy this book.
- I like this book a lot. Developed for business communication it has applications for many areas of life. I found it clear, instructive, insightful and relatively free of new-age doublespeak. I work in an ER and I communicate with angry people (sometimes including myself) in emotionally-charged situations on a daily basis. I find the techniques presented in this book quite practical.
For comparison I read a few of the negative reviews. Several of them dismiss this book as "common sense." I think they miss the point that common sense is not really all that common.
- As an Executive Coach, I highly recommend Crucial Conversations. Many of my clients face the challenge of talking with their peers and/or direct reports on a daily basis. Most people don't handle those difficult conversations very well. This book gives great steps and info on how to go about treading through the difficult waters. I have purchased several copies of this book as gifts for clients. I am currently re-reading it in order to grasp and absorb the rich content.
- Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes are High
An excellent book that provides realistic examples of many of the discussions we would like to have with our loved ones, colleagues and friends and somehow cannot find the right words to do so. A good resource for anyone who wants their conversations to have a positive impact on their lives and on the lives of those with whom they want a stronger connection.
- I read this book as an assignment for a communication class. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it was not only easy to read but, it provided valuable insight to what goes wrong during the communication process and how one can begin to steer the process back in a productive direction. After reading this book, I was able to use the practical applications to many different conversations i.e. personal and professional relationships. It is a truly valuable tool if you have ever left a conversation feeling that you could have done more. I will be purchasing the authors' other books.

5 comments about 1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for Children 2-12 (123 Magic).
- Very dissapointed with this book! I didn't like it! maybe because i don't agree with the technique they use to discipline the kids!
- This program for behavior management simplifies and clarifies strategies for dealing with behavioral issues that EVERY child will demonstrate from time to time. It's hilarious, logical, and when I finished it, I didn't feel so alone in addressing my child's behavioral problems.
- My son's preschool teacher told me about this book last year and I was skeptical about buying it...well after attempting several things on my own, I figured why not give it a try. I listened to about 30 minutes of this cd and was able to get the understanding of the method down enough to implement it over the weekend. Well, I was amazed at how my kids reacted to this. They understood it right off the back and I am totally amazed. Sometimes, I don't even have to count to "2", once I say "that's 1" and hold up my finger they get it together. I can't wait to really get into the rest of the cd...this is very good. I have two boys ages 5 and 7 years old....so i feel if its works for me it can work for you :)) -
- I have adapted some of this for my own style and own chlid, but I am very pleased with the book overall. I refer to it every now and again when I need a refresher or need to change up my approach a bit because of my son's changing age and needs. I feel this book is a great base to work with. It was receommended to me by one of the best daycare/preschool teachers I know and I have receommended it to many people myself.
- We tried many approaches with our children involving treating them as little adults such as the STEP program and had nothing but trouble. We didn't find this book until our children were approaching teen ages but the advice was still excellent and transformed our relationships. This author, years ago put in writing simple techniques that allow you to set rules, to create a situation where the children learn boundaries even before they fully understand the need for rules, and everyone in the family, large and small, can get through situations without unnecessary stress or embarrassment. Everything you see on TV with the nanny shows is the embodiment of these simple principles.

5 comments about The Baby Book: Everything You Need to Know About Your Baby from Birth to Age Two (Revised and Updated Edition).
- The Baby Book is the perfect gift for a first-time mom, pregnant friend, or any new family. It is written with a light, gentle and positive tone, but is eye-opening at the same time. On the surface, it seems to be a "baby guide" like so many others on the market, but The Baby Book is different.
Dr. Sears and his family coined the term "Attachment Parenting," which is a philosophy of parenting that embraces instinctual bonding behaviors like breastfeeding, babywearing and cosleeping. If these terms are foreign or even off-putting to you, that's okay. The Baby Book contains all the fun facts to prepare and guide moms and dads with new babies. It just adds another dimension, empowering parents to care for their children with respect, and encouraging them to develop a deep relationship that can carry them through countless tough decisions in a lifetime.
Rather than parroting the tired mantra of "check with your doctor," The Baby Book presents the data you need to make informed choices on your child's behalf, or tells you where to find it if you want to know more. And you will want to know more after you read this book. It will give you the sense that it's okay to question the status quo and make your own way as a parent.
If you think you are the type of parent who likes to take charge of your child's health and well-being, rather than leave it up to an "expert" who hardly knows him (aka the pediatrician), I would also recommend reading Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6) by Ramiel Nagel.
- A friend of mine just lent me this book because she said everything I did with my 2 1/2 year old is in the book, which I had never read. I had the What to Expect books that someone had bought for me, but I didn't really like them and I did my own thing. I didn't realize it was called attachment parenting, I thought it was just common sense. I had a natural homebirth from the beginning with my husband and midwives. Sure, we were scared when they left us without an instruction manual, but we just figured it out. I nursed and slept and was on her schedule, which worked out for us. We coslept with our baby and I carried her in my kangaroo pouch wherever we went. Intimacy was not a problem, because we don't have the "night time only rule" in our house. We have a pretty laid back kid who loves to travel via airplane and car. She's never had a schedule, she's too busy having fun. We know friends who are tied down to schedules and their kids seem to cry an awful lot. Who wants to hear a kid cry all the time? Not us.
- Don't waste your money on a bunch of baby books ... this one is encyclopedic and contains everything you need to know.
- This is one of the few books on parenting that is lacking in BAD advice. Most of the advice is positive, supportive, and aimed toward understanding your infants needs. Dr. Sears actually says that it is good for our children to eat saturated fats, which is so true. Although unfortunately they make the mistake of recommending soy milk or rice milk for growing children, rather than raw grassfed milk. This book is extremely detailed, so much so that I wonder what all the details are about. It's almost like Dr. Sears home doctor companion because I am certain that it will be hard to find a question that is not answered in the book.
For those who want more nutrition and attachment parenting see Healing Our Children: Because Your New Baby Matters! Sacred Wisdom for Preconception, Pregnancy, Birth and Parenting (ages 0-6)
- By the title of my review you can tell I refer to this book as my baby encyclopedia! It's great. Lots of helpful information for the first years of life. Information is easy to find. I have also read, but do not own yet, the fussy baby book and I really liked that book too. I realized I was doing attachment parenting and didn't even know it!

5 comments about Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Child's Attitude, Behavior & Character in 5 Days.
- After my pediatrician recommended anger therapy for my 5yo, I thought my world was falling apart. I picked up this book on the advice of a friend and I can honestly say that my boy is now a happy, content, well-adjusted, peace-filled normal child. He understands what it means to be a part of a family, to pull his own weight, and he is finally just not angry any more. I guess he was modeling my behavior - but not anymore! Now I walk away and no longer "vomit" my own anger on him. It took longer than a week, but our problems were bigger than mere disobedience. Now all my children are benefiting from this new method!!!
- i gave this book to my daughter and she was having difficulty getting my grandson potty trained. He is two. Within a week of using this book as a guide, he is potty trained.
- I am very pleased with the book and I am already following it with my 13 year old son. I would recommend the book to other parents, grandparents and teachers.
- "Have A New Kid By Friday" is the most relevant, down to earth book I've ever read on child rearing. Kevin Leman has compiled a "how-to" list of difficult situations parents face in every day life in an easy to follow, easy to implement way that makes following the book enjoyable for the parent, life changing for the child... preserving and enhancing relationship and accountability.
- Dont pass this one up,your kids adulthood depends on it as well as your sanity and profitability of your parenting journey.

5 comments about Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations.
- This is a must read for students in junior high and high school. It changes the way they would walk through the teen years. Parents, we aren't exempt from doing hard things either. Read this to see how we can still impact our world and change the way our children process the adolescent years.
- I've bought at least four copies of this book... every time I get one, one of my kids runs off with it and I can't finish it. They love it - and they've been challenged by it. I love it - I'm most of the way through it. Now if I can just get my latest copy back from my wife...
- I am very pleased with my purchase. The book is excellent and was delivered in a timely manner and in superb condition.
- This book is an outstanding encouragement for kids who are floundering and trying to find their way in a world that doesn't think they can do much for themselves or for others. My six kids will all read this book!
- As a 26 year old I found this book very motivational. Although it is written to teens it may be a little too dry for some. You have to get through the first 2 chapters.
The concepts in this book are a must know for all teens and parents of teens. I would recommend this book. I am hoping to get the DVD of the seminar itself.
