5 comments about Why Is It Always About You? : The Seven Deadly Sins of Narcissism.
- Very informational and written so the lay person can understand it. Helpful in identifying the different characteristics of a narcissistic personality. In my case, it took the blame off me and put it where it belongs....on the narcissist.
- If you run from the narcissist in your life, you'll always be running, because there's always another one waiting around the corner. I am not speaking about physical abuse or horrifying marriages. I'm talking about the self-absorbed monsters that we frequently have to deal with at work, socially, or (God forbid) our own families.
It's better to be fully prepared to deal with those who somehow manage to suck all the oxgyn out of the room as soon as they enter than beat yourself up wondering why you have such a problem in your life. They are the problem, and they are probably the problem in every relationship they have ever been in.
If the realationship you are having with a narcissist is not of the "disposable" variety -- if it will not cost you unduly to walk away -- then this excellent book will teach you ways to take control as best you can with as little cost to you as possible.
However, I must add that if your exposure to one of these monsters has involved physical abuse to yourself or a child (or severe emotional trauma) get away by any means possible. There's no negotiating safety issues!
- "Why is it Always About You?" starts off being quite helpful but then falls into the "why did I start this" catagory. The book becomes very technical after the first couple of chapters and the jargon becomes disruptive to the non-professional reader's apprection of the subject.
I didn't finish it and am now looking for something in a more "reader friendly" format. Big dissappointment.
- After breaking-up with my boyfriend of several years, I started searching for answers to explain his unreasonable behaviors. I started looking into personality disorders and came across this book. For anyone who has experienced a narcissist, this is a must read! By the time you get done with the book...even before you're done, actually...you will understand so much more than you did. Your questions will finally be answered, and you will learn that you're not crazy afterall!
- This book provided exactly what I needed to understand the underlying issues of a person with narcissism. It was in-depth, but in laymen's terms so the understanding came quite easily. I am better able to deal with the narcissist that I am in love with and the one that I work for. But most importantly, I'm better able to detect these traits in others that I meet and underdstand the part I play in engaging them in narcissistic behavior. My relationships are much better particularly because of the strategies to know myself, embrace reality and set boundaries. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand why a person is narcisssistic and how it affects us in relationships.

5 comments about Surviving a Borderline Parent: How to Heal Your Childhood Wounds & Build Trust, Boundaries, and Self-Esteem.
- I carry this book around with me in my purse because it feels like a good friend I've been searching for, for 50 years who finally understands. Very helpful, I am finally hopeful about living the rest of my life with joy in it.
- I actually HAVE Borderline Personality Disorder and ran across this book in searching for others to help me learn more about the disorder. I have 2 young boys and am determined not to let my problems become a part of who they are and damage them but I couldn't find a book that dealt with how to be a good mother in spite of BPD so I read this book to see what children who were raised with a borderline parent had to go through so that I could avoid those pitfalls. Thankfully I was able to correct some behaviors I didn't even know I was doing, before I harmed my babies emotionally. Maybe the authors of this book would consider writing a book for those of us trying to do better while being a parent, maybe "How to Parent, when you have BPD" or something like that? Anyway also I wanted to add that my mother who has a mother with Bipolar also found this book VERY helpful.
- For those who have suffered for years and not found help because not much was known and the illness had no name until the last 25-30 years, this is a very practical handbook.
- At last, a voice and a reasoning to make sense of the chaos, drama, physical, emotional violence of my parents and my own inner dialogue as an adult from this toxic environment. If you are willing to do the work and wish not to repeat the family dynamics, this is the book to guide you.
One of the best resources written on this subject; gets to the heart of the issues from all aspects and provides a mental and emotional reprieve from the pain.
- I read this book, and kept notes beside me as I touched on how some of the content was relevant to my mother... and discarded what didn't really relate. (kinda like going to a Chinese Buffet).
Obvious at times, the book talks about the pattern of our parent's life and our life as their child... the pattern that has always been there, ebbing beneath the surface. The clinical names for episodes in our lives, the specific scenarios, and suggested lines of thought... all stretched your mind toward a better SELF AWARENESS and UNDERSTANDING of a loved one in your life who is ill.
------------------------------------------
I especially liked the boundaries portion.
------------------------------------------
Pontificating and understanding is a good personal step... but don't cuddle up with the pain and emotions here in this book. This shouldn't define who you are...
After a couple of months... I re-read the book... thinking of my siblings, and what traits and flaws each of us developed as cooping mechanisms to survive such a self involved parent.
After another couple of months, then I re-read the book... thinking of myself... and my own child (currently pregnant).
What do you do with the knowledge depends upon your strength of character and personality... knowledge for the sake of knowledge or righteousness or even indignation would only exacerbate the family situation. A quiet knowing and goal to always improve yourself is all that you can expect of a self help novel.
I recommend the Tao of Pooh. I recommend looking at the patterns within your own life and taking responsibility for them. And if you are a person who draws strength from your church community... I recommend that time and energy as well.
GOOD building block book... but don't fall down the rabbit hole.

5 comments about The Mastery of Love: A Practical Guide to the Art of Relationship: A Toltec Wisdom Book.
- I have learned to understand that the door to spirituality is opened slowly instead of yanked open all at once. Even though I read nothing new in this book, I did see a different perspective that reinforced all that I'm learning, pushing that door open just a little further. I also recommend I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't
- I just want to say this is beautiful book. It has a simple message. It makes you believe that everything is okay and everything is going to be alright because if you love yourself everything falls into place. I think I'm finally starting to know what that means.
This book is easy to read but the message sticks with you. The author puts a couple of meditation prayers at the end so you have something to help you stay focused on the message, if you want to. I have read two other books by this author, The Four Agreements and The Voice of Knowledge and loved all of them.
- This is the most beautiful, wise, spiritual, moving, truthful book i had ever read. The words are so wise and true that it hits the core of the soul and unlocks the key to true happiness and spiritual freedom. It opens up a door to God's love, which is pretty intense. Some people may not be able to handle or comprehend how it unveils the lies all around us, that have blinded us from the innate truth.
- Very uplifting book. Little preaching in the beginning, but helpful. I definitely needed to read it. I'd recommend it to everybody who struggles to understand why their relationships are not working the way they want them to work. It is of course not a magic stick to fix it for you, but give some insights that if applied right can change your prospective completely.
- This book is really right on. It shows you how to apply The Four Agreements to any relationship. It's very enlightening and written in an easy to understand fashion. The audio version of this book is great too.

5 comments about God's Big Idea: Reclaiming God's Original Purpose for Your Life (The Kingdom Series).
- Good book about how God wants to work through each one of us to bring His Kingdom to earth. It all starts with an idea delivered by human effort. God's Big idea is to use us to bring Heaven to earth.
- Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R100H7RL2TB2RJ
Don't Like to Read, Then Don't, Listen!: How to Turn Any Type of Text Into Audio Files That Can Be Read to You! (isbn 1438252455)
Getting Things Done (isbn 0142000280)
- Dr. Munroe has so much to say today and to all of us. He is the Lord's Servant for this time! If you are, as I am, always searching for spiritual growth with Heaven in mind while living on earth, this is the book for you to read, study, and speak to others about your personal destiny as you learn of His "big idea" for you. This is a life-filfulling learning experience.
- I encourage anyone who's ever given up on trying to understand the Bible, to take the time to read Myles Munroe's "Kingdom" series. Prior to this, it's been all out of context. Like trying to apply the rules of football to a softball game. When I saw Munroe on the Benny Hinn shows, explaning things in layman's language and comparing the ambiguous Kingdom of God...or the pie in the sky concept...to a REAL Kingdom, which is what it is, was & will be; drawing parallels between God's government and Kingdom rulership: "God's Kingdom is not a democracy!" ~ Ureka! It all fell into place. Using the wrong paradigm, nothing about it can make sense. In a Kingdom scenerio, tho...Bingo! It all falls into place. I liked the fact that he drew on the actual scriptures to prove his points...they proved themselves, in that light. I also recommend the NKJV Bible (New King James Version) as well as the Touchpoint Bible, available from some of Amazon's resellers, originally from Guideposts.
It explains each book of the bible in accordance with the time and the events taking place; as well as the people and the parts they played.
Back to Myles Munroe, tho..reading what he has to say, shines the light of illumination, on "the word" as I've never had it explained before. I believe, as another poster said, that he was destined for these times; and, those who take the time, will certainly be blessed, by reading his Kingdom series. Reading God's BIG Idea, is a Great Idea!
- "God's Big Idea" is a book about the unstoppable power of ideas. Myles Monroe unveils the ideology that is the eternal purpose of the creator for His creation and for humanity on earth. Throughout the book he offers solutions to earthly problems, including: war, terrorism, crime, AIDS epidemics, child abuse, environmental destruction, culture clashes, economic crisis, political and religious corruption, and the culture of fear.
Monroe's writing is strong and articulate, appealing to the intellect and to the practical. His clear powerful gospel message does not espouse religion but emphasizes the plan and purpose of God, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
The book is filled with scriptural content which guides the reader into an understanding of the precepts of God's Kingdom. Munroe then opens the way for the individual to "Reclaim God's Original Purpose for their life."
This is a book for everyone desirous of fulfilling their destiny while impacting today's culture for God's Kingdom purposes.

5 comments about Choices and Illusions: How Did I Get Where I Am, and How Do I Get Where I Want to Be?.
- I was disillusioned about subliminal programming and this book has re-opened a door to self-improvement that I shut many years ago because of the mis/disinformation involving subliminals. I am fascinated by the information in the book about blame and forgiving, and "mommy and I are one" and how these phrases as subliminals can change a person. Thanks Eldon Taylor!
- This book came so highly recommended from so many individuals whom I respect that I couldn't imagine not reading it. I found the book fascinating. I've been a student of spirituality and science my whole life. I loved how the author made the concepts simple and yet very strongly tied them in with the spiritual viewpoint of life which isn't always as easy to grasp. The essence of the Universe and Universal law is the Law of Attraction and the way it is activated is through our thoughts. Mr. Taylor very clearly explains the process and why it works. And Mr. Taylor has found a way, through his many years of research and experience, to expedite that process. I personally know the power and 'magic' of affirmations. But I also know that it's not easy to keep your mind and attention on the affirmations we've chosen and the path we know we would like to direct ourselves to. Mr. Taylor has a line of tapes that compliment and support the concepts in his book. I believe, approached with an open mind, and a willing heart......that there isn't anything you can't accomplish. I plan to purchase several of the tapes and additional copies of the book for myself and for loved ones.
- I have read many self-improvement books over the last few years, but until I found Choices and Illusions, I had not found a book that was able to finally give me the information I was looking for on how to reprogram the mind successfully. Dr. Taylor has written a book that is easy to read and hard to put down, packed full of research into how our sub-conscious beliefs cause us to limit ourselves, but unlike other books on the subject, provides answers to the question of "now that I know what's wrong, how do I fix it?" Since reading this book the first time, and I will re-read it, I have ordered a sampling of inner Talk CDs and can't wait to get started with them. Thankyou Eldon Taylor for giving me such a pivotal book and the technology I need to finally be able to make the changes I have so long wanted to make. I will also be buying extra copies of this book for gifting, to friends and family. It is a book that I feel every one should read at least once.
- Choices and Illusions: How Did I Get Where I Am, and How Do I Get Where I Want to Be?
By Eldon Taylor
ISBN 1-40191-853-0 (Hay House, 2007)
Nothing is more vital than questioning our beliefs about how we see the world and our relationship to it. Reading Eldon Taylor's book helped me see through many of my self-limiting beliefs and illusions through a very rational and comprehensive approach. Most people are caught in an endless cycle of self-delusion, which only reinforces itself with time because we seek to reinforce previously held beliefs and filter out the rest as irrelevant. If you feel stuck, this book will help.
Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide magazine
- Parts of the book are difficult to understand because they are written poorly...I found myself re-reading sentences and paragraphs trying to make sense of ideas that didn't hang together. Additionally, the book is basically a marketing tool for the subliminal CDs that are sold through a web site. I would like to know, from an independent source, if the CDs actually have made a difference for people. Until I find independent reviews of the CDs' effectiveness, I will not buy them, nor would I recommend someone spending money on this book.

- After learning how to type people using Rod Novichkov's method in his book How to Find Yourself and Your Best Match Socionics, I looked up my bosses and saw that one was ISTJ - perfectly suited for a career as a Veterinarian, the other was ESFJ - also great as a Veterinarian, I discovered that the book's personality type descriptions were very accurate and that recommendation of career were also good.
- This book did have useful information in it; however, I didn't use it as much as I thought I would for my class.
- The book was recommended to me by an executive seach company. I think it is a valuable tool in trying to sift through careers you might be best suited for. Another book, Career Match, is also very good.

5 comments about The Time Paradox: The New Psychology of Time That Will Change Your Life.
- Boyd and Zimbardo have set the new gold standard for books about time. The Time Paradox is a provocative, informative treatise that combines cutting edge research with practical, hands-on guidance for self-change. In the hands of these two experienced scholars, time becomes a tool for helping us understand and better control nothing less than the way we live our lives.
--Robert V. Levine, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology, California State University, Fresno and author of "A Geography of Time: The Temporal Misadventures of a Social Psychologist, or How Every Culture Keeps Time Just a Little Bit Differently"
- I doubt this book will change your life, but it is an interesting read all the same.
The authors discuss the way in which we find ourselves obsessed with time. Interestingly, they point out that 3 of the most common nouns in the English language involve time (namely time, year, and day.....among the other common nouns are person, way, thing, man, world, life, and hand).
Zimbardo and Boyd also discuss the way in which our time orientation guides our choices and overall orientation. He divides people into 7 time-related categories that basically boil down to those who are (1) past oriented (2) present oriented or (3) future oriented. Zimbardo offers up an anecdote involving pre-school aged children, and demonstrates how, even at a young age, our time orientation can guide our behavior. Basically the children are offered either (1) one treat now or (2) two treats later if they practice delayed gratification. When they were interviewed years later, the psychologists discovered that "the third of children who were able to control their impulses at age four scored 210 points higher on verbal and math SAT scores than the impulse-driven four year olds....The ability to delay gratification at age four is twice as good a predictor of later SAT score as IQ. Poor impulse control is also a better predictor of juvenile delinquency than IQ" (p. 216).
Overall, it was a good read. Somewhat pedantic at times but generally engaging.
Zimbardo's other book, The Lucifer Effect, is outstanding. Skip the first few chapters and go straight to his account of the Stanford Prison Experiment. It's the type of book that grabs your attention and really leaves you thinking.
- Nothing at all earth-shattering here -- might be useful for the less-than-introspective among us. It's not bad, it's just not anything special.
- I highly recommend this book! The Time Paradox is a great read and contains interesting stats and suggestions for gaining a "healthier time perspective". In addition to giving me new eyes with which I view and use my time, it answers questions about mine & my husband's differences. I am able to better understand why he does or doesn't do some things, and I understand why it's so instinctive for me to do or not do just about the opposite of that.
Every type-A personality who is married to, works with or has contact with non-type-A personalities (& vice versa) can benefit from doing these exercises. This book would be great in HR settings, and can help people better understand others' actions.
Take the quick test, and if you are willing to DO what's necessary to modify your time perspective even a little, you will see BIG changes in the way you relate to others, in the way you use your time, and in the amount of time you have to use.
One caution: my young kids aren't happy I read this book - I'm much more selective about how they (and I) use their time now.
- About: Boyd and Zimbardo put forth that one's perspective of time (how one views the past, present and future) affects most all of a person's life. Includes Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory to measure your time perspectives
Pros: Interesting premise, easy to read, neat asides like lists of fairy tales and songs about time, sources cited.
Cons: I'm wary of single theories that try to explain all aspects of a person's life. Some sections seem a bit out of place, like the long list of what you should do when you retire, as well as the chapter on suicide bombers.

5 comments about How to Make People Like You in 90 Seconds or Less.
- I bought myself a copy of this book a few years ago, and then quickly read it from cover to cover. It is one of the most helpful books I have ever read.
I have Asperger's, so I really needed to read a book like this much earlier in life. If I had, I would have gotten an idea of what is appropriate to do and say in what situation much earlier in life! Although this book is not geared specifically to those with Asperger's or those who are anywhere on the autism spectrum, it is as useful for them as it is for anybody else.
- This book has some good advice, such as telling you to smile and ask open-ended questions, but for the most part it is a waste of time. Much of it is silly ideas based on pseudoscience.
- This book help me to change some patterns in talking to people and reading the people. It is well written, no 'water' and up to the point with good examples.
- Nicholas is a genius. This book is outstanding and the information is easy to follow. I work in sales and I can tell you that I have tried many of his methods. They work and I am making more money. This should be a required read for all politicians, salespeople, management and entrepreneurs. Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

- When you meet someone, look 'em in the eye and give 'em a firm handshake because everyone knows that making a good first impression is important. Former fashion photographer Nicholas Boothman explains why - and a whole lot more - in this fascinating look at how people make connections. Like most people, you probably establish immediate rapport with certain individuals and don't seem to have anything in common with others. If you've wondered why, the author explains the components of communication and offers specific techniques you can employ to create connections quickly. The fun part is that after you've finished the book, you can try your newly acquired skills on just about anyone in any situation. Though some people are naturals, for most becoming a skilled conversationalist takes a lot of practice. getAbstract believes that almost everyone will find useful information and practical advice in Boothman's book. At the very least, he gives you plenty to discuss.

5 comments about How to See Yourself As You Really Are.
- The contribution of Delai Lama's writing's in this century may give the world a significant change as it struggles in material pleasures of life. May his message of love and peace win over human suffering and bring about a positive change in people.
Author of "A Hot Pot of Roasted Poems"
Editor of "The Blue Fog Journal"

- This was a wonderfully insightful book that challenges you to take a hard look at the "true you". It makes you think on the choices you have made in life, and where you want to go from where you are now. I found this book very enlightening and found great peace in it's reading. I learned many things about myself that I feel have made me want to be a better person, and I believe it has helped put me on that path. I recommend this title to anyone looking for self awareness.
- Like a few other reviewers, I am in the beginning stages of my practice of Buddhism, and I have struggled with some of the concepts I have read about from other authors, lamas, and practitioners. However, when I read this book by the Dalai Lama, the veil was lifted from my eyes and I literally felt the sudden rush of understanding. Never have I meditated on a topic so deep and full of mystery and felt that it had been explained so thoroughly and with such clarity.
The pages just fly by as you get lost in your own thoughts - your world will be literally turned upside down as you proceed through the chapters. This book will have you thinking long after completion and will allow you to experience your life through completely different (and more compassionate and understanding) eyes.
Highly recommended for experienced practitioners, as well as beginners like me who wish to grasp an extremely deep and insightful concept that will not be explained with better clarity.
- This is an inspiring and practical book with exercises to live lovingly in the world.
- After much previous reading and study wihtout learning how to medidate reading this little text gives a clear and simple path towards achieving the rewards of medidation.
This book is a blessing

5 comments about The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk About Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness.
- For starters I never write reviews. I feel there are some books for some and some for others,
I have been in search of enlightenment for sometime now. Have been a martial artist and have studied some of Buddha's teachings and meditate on a regular basis (Chi Kung), but have always felt something is lacking and that the path I was on seemed to be shorted (if that makes sense).
Well, this book has lead me to understand there is other ways out there and that the ideas I were having really aren't insane.
So, overall thanks and I would recommend this book for those that have some answers, not all and are looking for information fill in's. And of course an open mind.
- D.U. found it's way to me and before I was through the first chapter I had bought A Course in Miracles (which I had heard of previously but had not yet been inspired to read). You know when you hear/read something that resounds as "truth" on all levels, well this was it for me. Having munched my way through over 20 years of spiritual information, D.U. clarified ALL like nothing I have ever seen before and best of all, not only gave answers to a multitude of questions which had arisen over many years of study but also explained simply WHAT TO DO! What a gift. Thank you, thank you to all involved in this book...you know who you are!
- "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy..."
-Hamlet
A few years back after giving the invocation at my church service a woman just began to stare at me. After the service, she came up to me and said, "John...did you know that you have a spirit guide..."
I just kind of rolled my eyes and said, "Oh. Okay. So I have a spirit guide. What does this spirit guide look like?"
"Oh, well, he's tall...taller than you...thin...and has long gray hair and a beard."
"And I suppose this guy...this guide is standing right next to me?"
"Oh, yes! He is very close to you. He seems very protective of you..."
After this strange exchange, we parted ways and I went to go pay a visit to my dad. I stood by the kitchen counter drinking a glass of water and I just blurted out, "I guess I have a spirit guide, dad. He's tall and thin and has long gray hair and a big, bushy beard."
My dad looked up from his paper and smiled, "Oh, yeah...Georgie."
"Georgie?"
"Georgie, your imaginary playmate. When you were 3-4 years old, you never went anywhere without your Georgie. And then one day, you just stopped talking about him."
Shivers. Chills. Acceptance.
I tell you this story because in the great and wonderful book, Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard, Renard is visited by two spiritual masters, Arten and Pursah. I consider myself a very "grounded" individual who really doesn't buy into a lot of the "woo-woo" stuff that some people in the New Age/ New Thought/Metaphysical movement do. I feel that it detracts from the real value this philosophy can offer when "properly applied".
This book, if you hadn't already guessed by the 455 other reviews, is about the Course in Miracles and these "characters" help Mr. Renard apply the material he is gleaning from the book in a more beneficial way. They come to check on his progress even though they really don't need to because they already know what he's up to. During these exchanges with Arten and Pursah, Renard makes a lot of bad jokes and bad puns like my favorite, "Love is letting go of beer."
I've had some of my amazon friends write to me and ask me if I read DU and if I had, to write a review on it. I have to admit, I really struggled with this book. And then one day it just became clear to me why I was struggling; I had major judgments going on with Gary's credibility. Was he really seeing these "ascended masters"? Was he really talking with them and even going to places with them? Were they really Thaddeus and Thomas in a former life? And then I realized that my judgments were separating me from what this Highly Symbolic book is all about; it's about forgiveness...True Forgiveness...A Course in Miracles Forgiveness where one sees only God and then I realized something very, very important...the moment I extended my forgiveness to Mr. Renard, I could see that beauty and the value, and the sheer simplicity this book has to offer.
Because we live in a world of form, we think that only that which we see with our physical eyes is real and yet those things we see with our eyes are things that are probably the farthest away from reality that we can possibly imagine. Things change, forms come and go, everything in the world of matter is an illusion but the one thing that doesn't change, is the Spirit within it all.
This is how all True Healing is experienced - by only looking at God. There are some absolute gems in this book that just floored me and left me shaking with joy:
"What you are seeing is not the truth. If it's not the truth, then how can you judge it? To judge it is to give it reality. But how can you judge and give reality to that which isn't there?"
"You will arrive at your destination...the real question is, how long do you want to prolong your suffering?"
"The Holy Spirit knows that only the thoughts you think with God are real, and nothing else matters..."
I realize now that it doesn't really matter if Arten and Pursah are "real". If we are willing to look past our limitations, maybe we would see that help is always available, that not only does each of us have "a guide" - like Georgie - but there are nothing but angels ready and willing to help us through this persistent illusion we call the world.
Buy this book. Laugh a little...sneer a little...groan with every bad joke...but marvel at how simple and how wonderful the Truth that sets us free can be; the Truth that we are as God created us now and forever.
Peace and Blessings,
john, 'the Light Coach'
- This incredible book tells a story that is 100% true!
It is the perfect introduction/companion to A Course In Miracles.
It's all about releasing grievances, resentments, fear, hatred, guilt and all the negative emotions, folks!
When we can release these, we step into peace, joy, happiness and love-- we can then move beyond this dream world of illusions. This book will show you how!
- Neo-Buddhist, Krishnas and all these other sort of "eastern" religion types don't really harken to the writings of the "ascended" masters, so to speak.
This individual does what the neo-Pagan community has been wanting to do for years, throw everything out the window. He doesn't even try to talk about the classic masters, he just makes his own up.
Isn't it lovely that these spiritual masters just appear to one nut-job and then bang, poof gone? Yeah... right.. more neo-Pagans trying to highjack reality.
