5 comments about The Amazing Power of Deliberate Intent: Living the Art of Allowing.
  1. As I myself have been trying to practice the Law of Attraction, I found this book helped me to realize a very important point. You can ask, believe but to receive you must consciously and deliberately be aware. I have found myself in default mode meaning if you are not consciously aware it will not happen. They also give you processes (excercises) to achieve your goals. Similar to this book and one of my favorites that also show you how in a workbook format and gives you exercises is Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook

  2. I've read a load of bestsellers on manifesting personal desires including this one, and I found they all have one thing in common - none mentioned karma, which I think is the ultimate challenge in fulfilling your desires. Why are so many people struggling with sickness every day? Why are there so many women looking for years for a mate? Is that because they don't desire them or they are not clear on their goals and desires? These books are there to make you feel empowered, but will your reality change? Not until they address how to overcome karma. And I hope one day, there will be a well-rounded book that talks about balancing desires and karma.

  3. As always I was able to find the product I was looking for and it did arrive as scheduled. No complaints! No complications! Amazon never fails me.

  4. I just finished reading this book. I really got a lot out of it.

I must say I was a bit leary at first about Abraham and the authors. I still can't quite buy into the idea that everything I ask for is given to me, or that the authors are so confident in their healthy emotions they cancelled their medical insurance or that every disastor victim attracted their misfortunes with "bad vibs."

Having said that, it is truly a wonderful study in positive thinking and really simple, but effective techniques to improve your emotions and outlook on life. That part really does work! All and all I got a lot out of the book and am thankful I read it. Do I beleive every work as it is written, let's say I have my doubts. Read it with an open mind and take for it what works for you.

  5. We used this book for several classes at the Hollywood Center for Positive Living in Florida and it was really well recieved. If you liked "Ask and it is givin" You will like this too. If channeled material bothers you and you can set that asside I think there is much here to appreciate. As always the Universe is saying "Yes" to you so "Living the Art of ALLOWING" Good and creating deliberately with intention can be a great assist to anyone wanting to change their life experience for the better.

5 comments about Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type.
  1. Happily getting up in the morning to go to work is a key element for a rewarding life!

Do What You Are explores the sixteen different personality types of people (enhancing the work done by Myers Briggs) and what type of career we are best suited for.

Also, the book also addresses interpersonal relationships, understanding one's own personality better, and the personality of others. Like attracts like and gravitating towards a career that has others with similar interests helps provide a rewarding career.

  2. I read this book about ten year ago and found it had many good ideas that have been helpful.

  3. After learning how to type people using Rod Novichkov's method in his book How to Find Yourself and Your Best Match Socionics, I looked up my bosses and saw that one was ISTJ - perfectly suited for a career as a Veterinarian, the other was ESFJ - also great as a Veterinarian, I discovered that the book's personality type descriptions were very accurate and that recommendation of career were also good.

  4. This book did have useful information in it; however, I didn't use it as much as I thought I would for my class.

  5. The book was recommended to me by an executive seach company. I think it is a valuable tool in trying to sift through careers you might be best suited for. Another book, Career Match, is also very good.

5 comments about Changing for Good: A Revolutionary Six-Stage Program for Overcoming Bad Habits and Moving Your Life Positively Forward.
  1. OK, finally a book for change that is truly worth embracing. This is based on research, not mere theory. It clearly sets forth the process for how people change across a spectrum of stages that make sense. Several common problems are used as examples of the process. The reader without substantial background in psychotherapy may need some help, or a coach. I suggest the reader pick some area of his life where change is desired (start with something small to get the process learned both with word images and behavioural experience) and work through the book. Once the process is learned, move on to new challenges.

  2. Unlike most self-help books out there, this one is actually based on research for a change. Based on this Phd's work on how people change, this guy has uncovered the different, predictable stages of change that people go through when they attempt to get themselves to change. Although the stages are fairly predictable, not everybody goes through them in the exact same order as some people skip various stages on their way to changing their behaviour. A great book all-in-all, it's definitely worth a look. Also liked The Sixty-Second Motivator.

  3. This book explains the model of change in a straightforward and applicable manner. Contains great examples and stories relevant to change, and the material is presented in a clear and intelligent manner. It will prove to be a great tool to use in my practice.

  4. This book is a useful tool whether you are seeking to improve something in your own life or are in a situation or a career in which you are helping someone else. The six stages that the authors propose follow a logical progression, though the lines between various stages get blurred. The book is very readable and the real-life examples woven throughout add a change of pace from the psychological treatise that comprises the rest of the book. Recommended.

  5. I have found this book to be helpful in coaching others. Also, I train other coaches, and I recommend this book to them, and many incorporate the framework for change described in Changing for Good in their coaching. The book presents a sophisticated model in a practically understandable and useable way. There is a balanced mix of scholarly research and personal story. I especially appreciated the section on preventing a lapse from becoming a major relapse. I have referenced this book in my book, Relationships That Work: The Power of Conscious Living Relationships that Work: The Power of Conscious Living.

5 comments about Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner (Includes Author's Book of Shadows).
  1. There's a reason why Scott Cunnningham was so well loved in the WIccan community. Out of all the Wiccan books I have read, and there have been many, this one still stands out on my mind as the essential and most direct one. Unlike some other authors, Scott manages to get straight to the point of what Wicca is, spends only enough time telling us what it is not, and making it clear enough for all to understand. While I would not recomend that those who are looking into Wicca stop here, this is by far the perfect starting point.

The only complaints I have are maybe with some of the wording of his rituals. But even he suggests we write our own rituals, making his merely examples.

Also I suggest all potential Wiccans read and understand Gerald Gardners "Witchcraft Today" and Doreen Valiente's "Witchcraft for Tomorrow". Always know the history of the Craft so that it does not become diluted and ill-defined.

    Blessed Be )O(

  2. This book is quite excellent and easy to read. It holds up just enough information for the basics the religion Wicca, along with enough advanced point to make the grade with more advanced users of magick. Scott Cunningham's work is amazing and I love him as an author, but he could have don without handing out his BoS in the end of the book, thusly splitting the book in two to most whom only seeking it for references. In the end Scott does provide all the necessary requirements to make this book a definite pick up.

  3. Over the years I have bought several copies of this book. I wore out one, the others all were loaned out and never came back. I figure those folks needed it more than I did at the time. But I always end up buying a new one because my library seems incomplete without it. This is a must have for any solitary and even for those of us in covens. There is much to learn for Mr. Cunningham.

  4. This book did nothing for me. A little harder to understand than I thought it would be. There are much better books out there, like The Wicca Bible. Now THAT'S the perfect little book.......

  5. This is kind of okay, but a little fluffy for my tastes. It's sort of a Martha Stewart meets Charmed. If you are looking for a "how-to", this one is kind of like an appetizer before your steak and potato.

5 comments about Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy.
  1. More than ten years on, the words of Sarah Ban Breathnach's Simple Abundance still ring true, as they whisper in ear, reminding us to be grateful and gentle with ourselves. Central to Sarah's message is that living a life with gratitude, indulging in small pleasures, and asking for Grace every day will bring miracles to our life.
Sarah Ban Breathnach's wit and wisdom leads the reader gently on a path of self discovery. She doesn't ask you to make any dramatic changes to your life - she simply gives you some suggestions on how to improve the life that you've got.
From the simple delights of a well-organised linen closet, to the process of creating an Illustrated Discovery Journal, Sarah reminds us of what we have always known - that appreciating the simple things in our life will open our eyes to a world of abundance.

Boy Meets Girl: A Pocketful of Wedding Stories

  2. Simple Abundance, A Daybook of Comfort and Joy has been such a pleasure to read. It adds thoughtful consideration to facets of my life that have been overlooked for some time. I have found that this book has also opened up a dialog between my husband and myself as we read this together every evening before bed. I am learning to simplify my life and finding joy in that. What is left are the things (and parts of myself as well) that are truly precious. Being surrounded by THOSE parts of me, instead of the clutter of negativity, and unneeded STUFF, lets me truly feel the abundance life has to offer.

  3. I was given this book while I was recovering from surgery and found it so comforting and inspiring that I have since purchased it for two friends who are also undergoing hard times with their health or families. It has helped us all to have a more positive outlook. This book has no beginning, and no end. You can read it starting anywhere, and you can read it forever!

  4. I bought this book several years ago and never managed to keep up for more than a few days. This year I found out why. When trying to establish evening rituals to help with sleep, I began this book again. YOU MUST START AT THE BEGINNING. That's where I went wrong before. You can't just jump in on the day you happen to receive it. That said, you can start on Jan 1 any time you want. I did that in late Feb, and I've been "doing" two pages a day to catch up. I've followed the instructions and started a gratitude journal, and I've already seen small changes in myself and my attitudes. I'm more mindful of my words and actions, and I'm more conscious of the things I have to be thankful for. I'm looking forward to more changes and a richer life experience as I continue my journey through this book. It may not be for everyone, but if you're looking to live a more conscious, mindful life, this collection of essays and observations could just be the spark of change you're looking for.

  5. I've read and reread this book so many times that I now know exactly where to look for passages about joy, self-acceptance, "homecaring," gratitude, simplicity, and so forth. The author has certainly done her homework in that the book is filled with pithy quotes, interesting information on a variety of topics, and biographical data on some famous and not-so-famous folks. Each day of the year, Sarah Ban Breathnach weaves this information in with her own words of insight and wisdom to create a delightfully uplifting book of inspiration and advice.

  1. This book seems to encompass ideas from most Judeo-Christian religions. It was very inspirational and really makes you take a look at your life.

  2. This one does not feel like a book (since it's a companion to The Alchemist), as there is no story, but rather a set of thoughts. It reads fast if you know the original sources so i'm not sure it's worth compared to things like Tao the Ching, The Art of War, and other classics. It may help when reading the Alchemist, at least to indicate at which level the Alchemist should be read, but alone it is simply a compilation of other works. Might be useful to read again the Alchemist after reading this one...

  3. The message is great, the writing is fine, but the book in general left something to be desired. Cheap paper, bad printing, and large type make it look and feel like a cheap paperback dressed up in it's big sister's clothes. Making money while he's still famous? I think his message is worth more than this cheap paperback with a hard cover.

  4. Powerful collection of advice and insight that doesn't follow any single line of religious dogma, but instead borrows from all of them to create a universal code of higher wisdom. This is one of those books (like Napoleon Hill's Positive Action Plan: 365 Meditations For Making Each Day a Success) that I will never finish reading -- I'll read it for the rest of my life.

  5. I thought this was going to be like Coelho's other books but it's not. Instead it's something like a book of proverbs. Very much worth it's wieght...

5 comments about Make Every Man Want You.
  1. I got so much out of this book - not just in terms of dating and relationships. Her advice to stop thinking, start living life in the moment, stop stop arguing with the way life is showing up has helped me not only form more stable, better relationships with men, but also to enjoy life more and have better relationships with everyone in my life. It is an easy read, but there is an enormous amount of wisdom in the book.

  2. Marie Forleo's book is not just a book about making every man want you, it's about making everyone want you, including yourself. The five truths that Marie shares with us can truly be life altering. When I first started reading the book, I underlined sections that I felt fit for me and I would want to revisit in the future. I found myself underling something on every page. Marie doesn't just leave us when we finish her book, her offer of a four week life coaching sent by e-mail on a weekly basis and an Action Guide re-enforces what we've learned from her book, and is such a special bonus. This book along with How to Snag a Guy and Keep Him Hooked: 99 Ways to Make Him Ache for You are my favorite self-help guides! Highly recommended both books!

  3. This book is wonderfully upbeat and enlightening. It is not the book for you if you are looking for a list of tips on how to manipulate men into your life; however it is definitely the book for you if you want to reclaim the natural goddess that lives inside you and lead a life of awareness and satisfaction. This is a very healthy read with a charming, humorous tone.

If you love Marie's book and are interested in reading more about developing healthy relationships with yourself and others, I recommend that you also read the work of Ariel and Shya Kane whom she acknowledges as her friends and mentors. Their books Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment and How to Create a Magical Relationship are wonderful introductions to the gentle art of creating magic by living in the now.

  4. I am giving this book a tentative 4-star rating because I really wish I had gotten this book instead of some other bad book that came better rated than this one. Even though I have yet to read it (I am now going to buy it in-store), by visiting Marie's free supplemental website I can really see how her tips and methods can work... her theory of telling one's-self, for example that "this is it" and "this is what I want" in life, at every challenging situation or mind-numbing social event, I have already learned to make the best of whatever situation I am in, instantly making myself more relaxed, positive, outgoing and most importantly potentially charming (and dare I say irresistable) to the opposite sex.
If you are skeptical like I am to spend money on a product like this that might not work, might leave you discouraged or waste your time with tips you could come up with yourself, visit her website and see for yourself rather than taking these comments at face-value. Also know however that some of her tips are "common knowledge" meaning, you can probably find versions of her advice on other websites or wikis. Like every self-help thingy, you have to take the author's advice with a grain of salt; no book is going to be a "cure-all", nor will a title (especially as provocative as Marie's) really, truly be the most appropriate category for the material inside (even Marie admits in the preface that she used the title just to catch your attention). With Marie's book and a little bit of practice (!) I really think I can make some improvements to my social life!

  5. I realized that my girlfriend was unknowingly following Marie's advice when we'd met, and for all of the time we've been together. That is why we have such a perfect, fun-filled relationship and are known among our friends as the "perfect couple."I also recommend my favorite book about love I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't

5 comments about The Astonishing Power of Emotions.
  1. I have read many of the Hicks' books and some say they repeat the same subject matter. Hey, it is about The Law of Attraction and each one of their books approaches it from a different angle. However, another book on the same subject is a very interesting read and gives you a workbook format and a journal to record those thoughts,Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook.

  2. Although repetitious of the same content as the earlier works of Ask and It Is Given, and Law of Attraction. This volume seems to say it again with much more power and clarity. Reading this just reinforces all that we forgot we knew.My plans are to re-read it again and again to really let it all sink in.Enjoy!

  3. What a Book
There is not a person on this earth who could not benefit from reading this book and applying the teachings within it .If only i had discovered it sooner.

  4. I strongly recommend to read every chapter even if you don't think it applies to you, there is a message to be heard. I am so loving life right now, finally someone has answered the questions that I have been asking for so long, and finally someone has reassured me that what I have been feeling and knowing for so long is the way that I should have been feeling.
I also recommend other book about feelings, emotions and relationships that is a perfect match with this great book: I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't

  5. Theh astonishing power of emotions will change the way you look at your life, but read all of Jerry and Esther Hick's books because there is something wonderful in all of their books in fact I have pre ordered their next book, Money and the law of attraction.

I have even given these books as gifts because they are a must read for everyone.

5 comments about The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife.
  1. I found that listening to the book during a morning drive to work always left me in a postive light. I believe that it is a good reminder to each of us.

  2. Marianne Williamson's latest book will uplift many who need to know and understand that reaching 40, 45, 50 and beyond is not the end of the world as they know it. Marianne's dry wit and own experiences help the book along but her profound understanding of the way women think and her intense knowledge of A Course in Miracles glues the whole thing together, allowing for an inspiring read that re-ignites any flames that may have gone out in your life (or perhaps ignites flames that had never been lit!).

I love the way Marianne sees mid life as the opportunity for a second (and sometimes a third) puberty... finally reaching the point in our lives where our personalities have matured enough to know how to handle the opportunities and challenges that we are faced with every day. Retirement is less about stopping work and more to do with finding and doing what is really our passion. At 40 or 50 we have (God willing) another 40 or 50 years to discover that passion and live it, knowing that all the experiences in previous careers and relationships with others have brought us to the point where we now, hopefully, know what to do with it all.

  3. Pleasant enough and upbeat, but when she quoted Werner Ehrhardt (founder of EST) in the introduction, I knew I'd made a mistake. I started looking around for her credentials and couldn't find any credentials of any sort. A good friend could give an equally good or better pep talk. Not very promising, so I sent it back.

  4. Fairly good Delivery - Book arrived Excellent Condition.
Thank You, Diane Cogswell Mill Valley, CA

  5. We women are fortunate to have so many thoughtfully executed resources available to us as we approach our second half of life. As a midlife author myself, I resonated with "The Age of Miracles" and found myself cheering at our shared perspectives.

Marianne Williamson does a fabulous job of encouraging us to wake up to the bounty of life still in front of us. Her warm and witty style, generous nature and insightful perspectives beckon the reader to open up to possibilities. She refers to our midlife years of transition as "sacred years" and I wholeheartedly agree. It's time to make peace with our past and BE the woman we've become.

5 comments about Thoughts & Feelings: Taking Control of Your Moods and Your Life (Workbook Workbook).
  1. This book was very hard to find, but a simple click on amazon.com and i had it at my door in 4 days in perfect condition. This book has helped in alot of ways so far and im only halfway thru. I like the journals and charts. It makes it a handson activity that i can get into instead of just a book.

  2. Lots of excellent ideas and some good techniques. But therein lies the problem: the techniques, especially on relaxation, should be defined, described and explained for use by stressed-out people in more detail.

Also, I believe that Beck's original insight about thoughts controlling feelings is not as airtight as he and the many people following in his wake believe. Do your realize how hard it is to even identify specifically and accurately your thoughts on almost any subject or in any situation that calls for psychological intervention.

Finally, I believe that workbooks such as these offer as much fool's gold, as real value and cogency. The most important deficiency is the assumption by the authors that psychologically crippled (blunt word but appropriate) individuals have the self-discipline, not to mention the intelligence, to make use of this book. Since Beck wrote his seminal book in the 70's, very little hard data exists to show the efficacy of cognitive behavioral therapy and techniques. C.B.T. may be an improvement over Freudian analysis (duh!) but certainly not over medication and directed therapy by a truly competent therapist who has the time and commitment to really help you. However, few therapists have the time, dedication and ability to actually help you. There are certainly some good therapists out there, but 99% have other patients and other concerns and responsibilities that distract them from focusing on YOU.

That said, the best relaxation techniques are taught by audio tape or c.d. Troubled people need the structure and discipline that tapes offer.

  3. I bought this book after hearing about the postivie outcomes of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

This book is amazing. You only read certain chapters that pertain to your specific problem (it tells you in the beginning which ones for which problems) and follow the instructions. My problem is panic disorder, so I looked up and know which chapters to read and complete. It takes a lot of work on your part, doing exercises, following through on things, I am only done with the first chapter I have to read and have done all but one of the exercises, and I already feel better!

My therpaist is buying a copy of this book to follow along with my progress. It will take a while, but with lots of hard work and a little patience, I hope to be medication free within the year! I know I may never be panic free, but my goal is to minimize it and make my life happy and liveable while medication free.

    I highly recommend this book!!

  4. This book was recommended to me by an LCS when I sought help for depression several years ago. I was also perscribed Prozac which I took for several months. The combination worked for me and the book in particular was a great tool for me long term. CBT worked for me and this book was key.

I appreciated that this book was about DOING something about your emotions vs. thinking about and reflecting on WHY you're depressed, anxious, etc. I, like many people, know exactly why I don't naturally have the best mental outlook- thinking and reflecting on the why (ruminating on a past I was powerless to change, worrying that more horrible things might happen) was part of the reason I would get so very depressed. Especially useful for me were the techniques detailed in the book to end negative loops of thought. It took time to master, but I now use the lessons I learned in this book reflexively, without effort. It has made a huge difference in my life: I deal better with negative emotions, I note the change in my moods without being trapped by them nearly as often and I am generally happier, more forward thinking and positive.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone. If it doesn't help you, it couldn't possibly hurt. Not all of it will apply to you (for instance, almost none of the anger related stuff applied to me). Changing how you think is possible and can dramatically improve your life. Try it.

  5. Great book on showing you how to use those thoughts and feelings to create a life you desire. The book stresses positive thoughts which bring on those positive emotions. This does remind me of the law of attraction and my favorite workbook, Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook that also stresses the positive and gives you many, many recipes on how to follow this premise.
