5 comments about Panic Attacks: A Natural Approach, Second Edition.
  1. Although the author is obviously driven by good intentions, such as promoting natural therapies which are invariably ignored by traditional medicine, she seems to have a dangerous prejudice against the use of medications which can be very useful for the treatment of more serious forms of panic attacks. The relaxation, diet, breathing retraining and massage techniqies she recommends are all very nice things and can be very helpful for mild sufferers. They can undoubtedly also be of great help for people with a more severe condition. However, writing that tranquillizers and antidepressants can actually cause panic attacks - as she does - can considerably increase a patient's fears and phobias about taking the medication he or she has been rightly prescribed.
I found certain parts of the book as extremely helpful - such as the ones where she describes what happens in our body during panic attacks - which helps to de-mistify them and put them into perspective. However, as I pointed out, her stigma against tranquillizers, sleeping pills and even anti-depressants is absolutely counterproductive and it ignores the fact that millions of people would have to leave their jobs and isolate themselves for months if they avoided taking them - thus perhaps adding to their low self-esteem and in some cases precipitating their depressive symptoms to uncontrollable levels. Although the underlying conditions are very different, what she writes is comparable to telling people who suffer from diabetes they should be careful about taking insulin because they may become addicted.

  2. While I appreciate Ms. Trickett's efforts, it does not address the seriousnes of some panic attack sufferers. My daughter suffered up to 35 panic attacks a day and was quickly becoming agoraphobic (fear of going aside for fear of triggering an attack). While prayer plays a role, her book is not sufficient enough to truly deal with the seriousness of this issue. It has taken two years of therapy to bring to the surface the root of the problem and telling a victim to pray, go outside daily, laugh, etc. really is not much help.

  3. After suffering personally from panic attacks, Trickett compiles numerous studies and self-help answers from medical journals and files, scientific publications, and empirical wisdom on how to recognize symptoms of panic attacks and how to treat them yourself.
Covering topics from exhausted nerves to low blood sugar she gives some wonderful suggestions on how a healthy diet, muscle maintenance and proper breathing can reduce the cause and effect of Agoraphobia.
Great book with lots of practical information.

  4. I've suffered from panic attacks for nearly all of my adult life (let's just say I've held @ 29 for a while!). While I don't suffer from an attack daily (although I did in the beginning), I do suffer from the FEAR of having an attack. Panic is slowly eroding my life away, and I find myself giving into it as I get older. I've read articles and information online about panic disorder and how to cope with it. I found this book and read it over the weekend. I felt as though Ms. Trickett cracked open my chest and looked into my heart and soul! At times, I cried because I felt as though she were reading my life's story back to me. The best thing I took away from this book is the information on hyperventilating - I had NO IDEA this was going on during a panic attack! In my opinion, Chapter 9, "Improve Your Breathing," is the MOST helpful how-to literature I've read about diaphragmic breathing. I've practiced yoga in both a studio and at home with DVDs, as well as found online information about deep breathing, and I was really able to put this type of breathing into practice thanks to this book. I've been practicing it as often as I can and I feel very calm and collected - I'm hoping that the positive practice becomes habit so I can remain calm. I also hope to be able to call on this breathing in the event of a panic attack AND before trying something that would put me in the way of a situational panic attack (flying and driving on the freeway are 2 things that toss me into panic). I would recommend putting this book into your library as a resource and couple it with any and all other resources you are using (therapy, medicine, etc.). For those of us that suffer from panic/anxiety disorder, we need all the tools we can get in our arsenal!

  5. Shirley Trickett writes understandable language and helpful guidelines
for this illness. I recommend this natural approach to everyone who
would prefer to achieve results without chemicals.

  1. This is a very good book, easy to read, written in a very straight forward, clear and concise way. I found many suggestions and ideas in this book very helpful. I don't normally recommend books but I have even recommended this one to some people I think need it!

  2. Having read many books on stress, this is now the only book I return to. This book offers a wealth of simply explained exercises and techniques you can use immediately to learn to relax and cope with stress and anxiety. It made a real difference in my life. This book encourages you to take responsibility for your thoughts as they create your reality. Everyone should own this book as a reference. You won't regret getting it.

  3. This book contains many different ways to reduce your stress. There's virtually something in it for everyone. If you don't like one technique, just turn the page and try another until you find one that works for you. A handy book that should help de-stress lots of people. Well worth the money.

  4. I suggest that you preview a page of the book. Each page has one black and white photo and a sentence below it. Very simple.

  5. I am disappointed with this book. Basically, it is 100 pictures with 100 short phrases. I think that there are a lot of good ideas in this book and good things to dwell on, but overall did not find it useful.

  1. READ IT - LOVE IT - ROCHELLE MOORE IS A BRILLIANT AUTHOR

  2. excellent reference book full of cures I highly recommend Rochelle Moore and her books to everyone

  3. Rochelle Moore's work is so different and so exact. I found this book great to work with and use it regularly. It is the type of book that you can refer back to over and over again. Wonderful author and so original

  4. I am learning so much about how essential oils and herbs can help to alleviate everyday aches and pains and also how to use them for headaches, stress, anxiety and so much more.
Very easy to use book and I am enjoying trying out the different recipies

  5. This is a "meaning of" and "how to" book for those who have questions concerning essential oils & herbs and their folklore, secrets, meanings, and effects . There are precise directions and warnings concerning specific oils and herbs. This wouldn't necessarily be the best starter book for someone who is new to oils and herbs, but it certainly is a good addition to any herbalist library. It is easy to read and makes a great reference book.

5 comments about The Panic Attack Recovery Book: Step-by-Step Techniques to Reduce Anxiety and Change Your Life-Natural, Drug-Free, Fast Results.
  1. I can't say enough great things about this book. I suffered from severe panic and anxiety through my sophomore year of college and just when I thought I would never get better I found this book and really began to feel a change within myself. This book is written in very clear, easy to understand, comforting language. Yet it is not condescending in any way. It offers practical, simple mind/body/soul solutions to overcoming panic attacks and anxiety.

Even after I began to get better I carried it around with me everywhere I went, almost like a little "good luck charm." It was that valuable to me!

I strongly recommend this book to anyone suffering from panic attacks or anxiety.

  2. I got the book and read it hoping that I might be able to glean something I hadn't already tried, and found out I was already doing everything the book recommended, and have been for a long time and I STILL have a major panic disorder with severe panic attacks. I've been a perfectionist about diet and exercise and trying to practice positive thinking, and while they may help people who have nothing else going on in their lives but unexplained anxiety with some minor physical reactions, it didn't even begin to touch on the problems that I'm faced with, not just because of the severity of my physical reactions, but because of the complexity of the circumstances in my life. This is really for the people who can manage their panic on their own, without the help of a qualified therapist. If you have severe panic problems, I would recommend a qualified therapist over reading this book. And by qualified, I mean someone who specializes in panic attacks, because the average therapist (and I've been to too many of those) doesn't even begin to know how to manage someone with panic attacks. It takes someone who can be very gentle, and patient, and non-condemning to work with people who suffer from severe panic attack disorders.

  3. I was a sufferer of anxiety attacks. After reading shirley's book it taught me how to control myself physically and mentally when I have attacks. I also enlisted her over the counseling and have learned a great deal about panic and anxiety attacks and knowledge is have the battle. I can't put into words how thankful I am, I feel released from a long dark torment. Thanks Shirley.

  4. All adults suffer from some level of anxiety that stems from their childhood and relationhips with parents. I lost both mine and was adopted, which resulted in a lifetime of anxiety disorder that crippled many good relationships.
Although this book addresses some of that, it tends to gloss over the importance of facing the truth about our parents, how we percieve their approval, and the devastating impact those emotions can have on our adult personality.
I recommend "Hiding From Love" by Townsend, if you find yourself withdrawing from others because of unexplained anxiety. That is a classic for revealing how childhood trauma (real or percieved) and disconnects from our parents can lead to defense behavior that becomes a trap in adulthood. If you are like me and struggled with panic when around others, please don't settle for a life removed from friends and the world - there is a reason why you feel panic in public situations, and it's rooted in your youth! Look deeper than this book, even if some of it's advice is useful (like exercise to help with anxiety - but nutrition?? c'mon, be real) !!

  5. As someone who has suffered from and anxiety and panic attacks badly over several months this book that I ordered came as a huge relief when they dropped through the letterbox because not only the information and suggestions in them about ways to get over your attackes but more importatly in the 'Fight or Flight'response, to read about others suffering exactly the same
symptoms and thereby proving that sufferers were not 'losing their minds' as they were beginning to believe but that panic attacks are simply your mind giving the body false signals and thereby setting off a range of frightening physical reactions.
Handy explains in great detail the physical reasons for why we feel the way we do during an attack and a good portion of the book is given over to relaxation, visualization and meditation techniques to use not only during times of attacks but also as a preventative measure.
If you are suffering and finding answers hard to come by, get this book today, it is well written, informative and if nothing else it will give you the knowledge that you are not alone and that many millions throughout the world are going through this with you every day. This can be cured and this book is a very good start.

5 comments about The Linden Method: The Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks & Phobias Elimination Solution.
  1. I purchased the Linden Method after several months of doctors who wanted me on sleeping pills, anxiety medication and to see a shrink. I turned it all down and suffered terribly, I came across this method and tried it. In two months I was better. The only bad thing I could say is that the e mail support wss there for a short period of time(It was suppose to be for one year) after 6 months, they never answered my e mails. If you need that support, that could be a problem. I would ask you to check your cortisol levels, mine were sky high, from stress. I go to yoga, exercise daily, eat well. I am sleeping a lot better but not thru the night. I think this is a helpful program but you need to do the work and stop talking about it to everyone you see and stop the internet stuff, forget it. You will get better. I take chinese herbs too to calm me down.

  2. I suffered from Panic Disorder for more than 10 years. Every GP i saw told me i would never be cured and offered me medication to keep my anxiety under control. Thankfully I never accepted the drugs. When i was at the end of my tether feeling totally worthless and helpless, i found The Linden Method. I bought it, thinking i was maybe being conned as i was at my lowest ebb. I have to say i cried when i first started to read the manual. And the Panic Attack Eliminator was like an epiphany. The Linden Method is honest, safe and has a real understanding of how panic can control your life. The after sales support is also superb.

I am not totally cured, but i know this is mostly down to me. The Method itself is sound, and if it doesn't completely cure you, I'm sure it will at the very least make your panic disorder much more manageable.

    Very strongly recommended.

  3. I did not get to read this book because it was written entirely in Spanish. Therefore, I sent it back. I was upset to realize that Amazon.Com did not reimburse me for the shipping costs, since it was not my fault that I had to return this book. I was out almost $20. This was my first purchase through Amazon.Com and also my last.

  4. The Linden Method: The Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks & Phobias Elimination Solution is an interesting book. It gives practical advise and the 9 pillars are very good CBT techniques. What I dislike about the book and Mr. Linden is the rest of the content. For example, one of the 9 pillars is to erase all memories of your condition, yet Mr. Linden devotes almost half of the book to his prior condition! Then he starts to play doctor without any qualifications. Chamomile tea while weaning off prescribed medications? Electronics could be creating anxiety but do not quit smoking? I am skeptical of anyone who directs you to a web site to purchase his products.

He also gives advice on how to beat PTSD and OCD yet he also really has not had any significant trauma in his life. I would like to see how he would handle real trauma. Given his past history, I am willing to bet he would be taking benzos like they were candy.

  5. Thats the Linden Method. Is just face it. I just saved you $177.00 First let me tell you about myself. I have panic disorder with agoraphobia and have tried two psychologists (at home) programs such as E.F.T, The Linden Method, Brain Sync, Attacking Anxiety and Depression, Zen Mind For Beginners, The Worlds First Digital Drug. Not to mention countless teas and pills such as Seredyn. None worked. Out of all of these miracles the worst by far was The Linden Method. If you have no idea what anxiety is and have no idea why your heart is pounding 1000 miles an hour then do reasearch online and save yourself $177.00

This guy tells you his story, then tells you to get over it and his secret is the funniest part of all. I almost died when I heard it. The people who have better results than me may have a better support system or a lifestyle that forces them to get out more. Im surprised this gets so much praise because its nothing special. To let you in on a little secret, there no miracle cure for anxiety or agoraphobia. You have to deal with it head on and thats what this tells you. Why do I continue using programs, you may ask? I more or less look for coping skills in programs and not so much that the program will make me anxiety free. It all comes down to how bad do you want it and a lot of hard work and all these miracle programs do is give you information freely availble on the internet. DONT BUY IT!

5 comments about Clinical Handbook of Psychological Disorders: A Step-by-Step Treatment Manual, Second Edition.
  1. I am currently using this book as a supplemental text for a course in Psychopathology I am taking at Cleveland State University.

The explanations of the various disorders are sometimes dense for the beginning graduate student, yet there is much to learn as each chapter not only discusses the etiology, but also various treatment approaches for each illness.

Would I recommend this book? Depends on what kind of student you are. If you are the type who is interested in learning only what is necessary to get through a course, this book will bore you. But if you are looking for a resource that will take you deeper, and be useful to you long after you leave grad school, then I would invest the money. Having a well-stocked professional library is essential to good practice. This book should be on that is on your shelf.

  2. The science moves slowly. Unfourtunately, some chapters are based in weak evidence.

  3. it was new as promised and delivered sooner than expected... this person is honest and does good business

  4. It is a great book. I t is easy to read and user friendly. I am a new graduate student and I wish all my books were as straight foward and easy to understand as the Clinical Handbook of Psychological Disorders.

  5. This text offers an overview of various cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) techniques for a variety of psychological disorders. Relevant research and case studies are included. Etiological models, trouble shooting and therapy rationale are discussed. I enjoyed this book and found it very helpful.
