5 comments about Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul: 101 Stories to Open the Heart and Rekindle the Spirit of Hope, Healing and Forgiveness (Chicken Soup for the Soul).
  1. I brought this book for a good friend of mine who is currently in prison and he enjoyed reading the book and found it to be very encouraging.

  2. Chicken Soup for the Prisoner's Soul was suggested to me by a prisoner. Having worked in the California State Prison at San Quentin in the late 1960s and at other lockup facilities in California and Arizona, I am usually hesitant about inmate suggestions for my reading list. However, this book far exceeded my expectations. It is so powerful, I read only a few chapters at a time. The effect could be overwhelming. So turn off your speed-reading skills, resist any temptation to use this for bedtime reading and expect to get more than your money's worth

  3. prisioners need to have something possitive to read. A bad attutude will carry to there life after they get out and on the other hand so will a possitive one. Smiles to all

  4. I was searching to find a inspirational book for my dad whom recently was sent to prison. He said right away he loved the book and now it is being shared by all his friends in his unit. He cant get enough Chicken Soup books and wants more of them right away !!! 5 stars for sure

  5. I purchased this book for my husband and he had written me several times quoting passages from it and told me he wished I had a copy so we could discuss it together. With that said, I purchased an additional copy and read it in one day. My son walked by and saw and me tearing up and asked what I was reading and I read him the except. We continued reading them together out loud. He too cried. It is an awesome and inspirational book that will make you laugh and cry. It created some bonding time with my son and opened up topics of conversation between my husband and me. Worth every penny and so much more!

5 comments about The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People Personal Workbook.
  1. I purchased this book, along with it's workbook, to enhance my supervisory skills. The book not only helps improve my working techniques, but also sharpens my skills at home, as Mother and Friend.
    Tammy Byrd

  2. A very interesting and practical workbook, but possession of the 7 Habits book itself is necessary to really appreciate the exercises.

  3. When I first read the 7th Habits of Highly Effective People I was amazed at how a slight shift in your thought process can make a huge shift in paradigms. When I saw that there was a workbook to compliment the text I quickly ordered it. I have found this workbook to be an effective way to put the lessons learned in the text to work for you. I am very please with purchase. This is an effective learning toll and highly recommend it to others.

  4. There is nothing in this wonderful book that is enlightening but it makes the reader quicly realize that management and leadership are achievable by anyone who cares to master them.

  5. The kindle version of this workbook is not worth buying because a lot of the book is comprised of tables and graphs which aren't readable with the kindle. I thought the kindle version would be workable in the sense you could actually write your entries in a separate notebook and just read the questions, but the missing table and graph content was a deal breaker for me.

5 comments about Wisdom from the Four Agreements (Charming Petites).
  1. I loved it - if you're a Don Miguel Ruiz fan, you'll love having this small little book to take with you anywhere.

  2. Ruiz has discovered four of the greatest laws that we should adhere to in order to become masters of our own destiny. The four laws are easy enough to understand, but harder to apply in every day life. A must-read for those on The Journey.

  3. I bought these as a gift for a friend who doesn't enjoy reading very much, and she loves them.

  4. This is just a mini-book of the original book- the full version of "The Four Agreements" is a must read. I keep the mini-version of it on my living room table for main point reminders...it never hurts to re-read the main points.

  5. I bought this little book after listening to the original book on tape. It has absolutely changed my way of thinking, changed my life. I love it. And it's so simple!

I made four new agreements because I had been ready for them years and years. You may be too.

5 comments about Ready for Anything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work and Life.
  1. David Allen's "Ready for Everything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work & Life" is excellent! As the companion book following his widely popular "Getting Things Done", it is a great addition to enhance personal productivity. I found myself revisiting the book time and again to get back on track whenever I felt overwhelmed. It inspired me to look with clarity and I discovered that it is entirely possible to make things happen with less stress and more effectiveness.

Another great resource I found that has helped me tremendously are books and podcasts by Ariel and Shya Kane. If you like David's approach, you might enjoy the Kanes' Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment, and Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation. Though not specifically tailored for productivity, the Kanes' books have made a huge impact on my work and life because they have inspired me to look at the root- how I operate in my life and not to judge what I have done or see. It is very freeing to learn to live in the moment. I can be appropriate to what's showing up in my life and this helps me get things completed with satisfaction. I highly recommend them!

  2. Both books by David Allen: "Getting Things Done" and "Ready for Anything", are amazing. I recommend starting with the first book and then proceed to the second one. I have reviewed "Getting Things Done" on January 3, 2003, and since that, did not find a better English-writing author on productivity and time management. The only one who is as influential as David Allen is Gleb Arkhangelsky, with his famous book "Time Drive" and other titles.

"Ready for anything" is a shorter reiteration of David Allen's principles first laid out in the "Getting Things Done", but this reiteration has deeper philosophical approach.

The most valuable technique that I have borrowed from David Allen is e-mail management habits. While there are many books devoted to email like "The Hamster Revolution", "Never Check E-Mail In the Morning", "Time Management for System Administrators", for me the framework by David Allen is the most actionable, which I'm using successfully for five years so far.

I can also recommend the audio version of "Ready for anything".

  3. Compared to nothing, perhaps this book gets four stars, but you just can't be objective about the writer of the classic book "Getting Things Done." This little book is a very fine accomplishment, easy to read, and packed with great advice. The quotes which also litter this book from other writers, philosophers, etc, are excellent - it's almost worth reading the book just for those quotations.
After finishing the book, I thought, "good, but not great.." so I guess I'm sticking with that initial reaction. One of the best things about this book is it's length. It's short. Right to the point, not a lot of fluff nor repetition of the same ideas. It's easy to read in one sitting, and I think I'll end up reading it several times. I usually wait until the second or third reading to make a complete judgment on a book, so I'm wagering that this one may rise in stature after a couple of more reads. I'll also say it was well worth the price I paid for it - I bought the hardcover at Building #19 for $2.98.

  4. This book is a waste of money. It is a collection of emails that David sent to his subscribers and repackaged in book form. Just stick with the original book, "Getting Things Done"; you don't need the sequel.

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity

  5. 1) read Getting THings Done. The knowledge inside this work has been so powerful it has even effected how I sleep; much better. The information here is life changing but like most revivals it can be like thunder a loud exciting burst followed by stillness. Read ahead---->

    2) get Ready for Anything 52 Principles.... I read a chapter from this book everymorning, after listening to GTD, and it has helped me through the most difficult part; maintaining enough enthusiam and focus to make it a way of life. The chapters are short to the point and filled with everyday, real life, easy to digest reminders on getting things done.

The fire is still burning well after the storm.

5 comments about Do You!: 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success.
  1. THESE ARE THINGS THAT THEY DO NOT TEACH IN COLLEGE. THAT IS PROBABLY WHY MOST OF THE MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES OUT THERE DID NOT FINNISH OR DID NOT GO TO COLLEGE. I AM NOT PUTTING ACADEMIC EDUCATION DOWN BUT JUST REALIZING REALITY!
THE ADVICE IN THIS BOOK IS HARDCORE. I WAS CURIOUS ABOUT RUSSEL SIMMONS BUT NOW I AM AN ADMIRER. HE AND THE PEOPLE HE WORKED WITH AND PROMOTED ARE AMAZING. IN A SOCIETY THAT CONTINUES TO PUSH THE AFRO AMERICAN ASIDE, EVEN THOUGH WE CONTRIBUTED MORE THAN ANYONE, WE HAVE ALWAYS SEEMED TO ACHIEVE AGAINST ALL ODDS BECAUSE OF PEOPLE LIKE RUSSELL SIMMONS!!!!!!!

  2. The book Do You was received as promised. Delivery time unfortunately, I cannot state if it was timely or not. I went out of town as soon as I placed my order. My books and a host of mail awaited my arrival back home. Thank you for good service- again! The books nature is to stimulate you to take action, to be a doer and not procrastinate. Step out of the box and take a leap of faith..

  3. After reading just a few pages I had already begun to plan how I could change my thinking, thus change my life for the better. What stood out the most in the book was how the title, DO YOU, although simple is a quite powerful truth...

The book made me realize that I have, over time, lost sight of many of the simple truths that make me who I am.

After reading the laws I began making changes that helped me to be more true to myself.

My favorite thing about the book was how he used real life examples of how people who are successful now got their start by being humble servants. That has always been my belief so it was nice to hear real life success stories.

  4. Wow! This book is all about feeling good inside. I am 50 years old and already make a very high income from my day job and play jazz at night. I know almost nothing about Hip Hop, am white and grew up in the suburbs. I had never even heard of Russell Simmons. I was not sure if this book would touch me in the right way because I assumed it was "exclusively" for the young, urban, hip hop crowd. I bought the book on CDs based on all the great reviews and am blown away by it. It is written in a way that is so inspiring because of the honesty. He talks to you like your hanging out with him instead of in a lecture hall. He fills you with a calming spiritual feeling with his totally inclusive and spiritual nature. It's contagious. He totally cares. On top of all that, he has done it all himself from bottom to top. I can't imagine a better role model to learn from.

  5. c the world as a place of love, happiness, and peace. use positive energy to break down negative energy surround yourself only w/ people who r going to lift you higher. THere is something good in all seeming failures. You are not to see now. time will reveal it. be patient. when we do good in the world, we come to happiness. we r here to awaken from the illusion of separateness. Nobody can give you equality or justice or anything. You have to take it. Support what supports you back. "after feeling and seeing what is good accept it and live it.

  1. Of the numerous books I've read about self improvement and changing our mindset, this is the best. It can be a difficult read at times but it is an excellent book. One that you would definitely have to read over and over again to grasp the wealth of information inside. It has many examples and practical suggestions to assist you in changing your thought patterns of self. I highly recommend this book if you want to change the way you think.
    Doug

  2. This is a very intriguing work. Maltz's style is so easy going and commonsensical, yet somehow his words moved me deeply. His message can be summed up thusly: 1) Be kind to yourself and stop beating yourself up; 2) Rid yourself of old, disabling habits, and replace them with empowering and uplifting ones.

That said, my description doesn't come close to relaying the power and empathy with which Dr. Maltz delivers the message. Somehow, he explains things in such a way that he had me mesmerized and entranced. I really got a lot out of this program and I couldn't recommend it more HIGHLY!

Lest you think that this is a work of "philosophy", rest assured that it is filled with examples and action steps that you can immediately use to implement Dr. Maltz's techniques for self-improvement.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I should say that I am a speaker, trainer, and author of another unique and highly valuable learning tool that can also be found here on Amazon: The WealthLoop Series Beginner's Guide to Personal Wealth Creation (Combo Audio/Data CD): Audio Seminar With Downloadable 40-Page Action Manual and Active Link Library. It is a straight-forward discussion of the art and science of personal wealth creation and should be considered by anyone serious about wanting to learn more about the right way to get started on the road to personal wealth creation and financial freedom!

Other "WealthLoop Series" tools of worth looking into include:

The WealthLoop Series Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses: The Foolproof Roadmap to Real Estate Riches Without the Risks and Hassles of Landlording

    and

The WealthLoop Series Beginner's Guide to Building Wealth Buying Houses (Combo Audio/Data CD): Author's Audio Commentary Plus Downloadable 32-page Marketing Manual, Checklists, Spreadsheets, and Forms.

  3. This book is for anyone who is ready to stop making excuses. When read with an open mind, this book will help you find the true reasons behind why you do or don't do anything. Apply the principles in this book and they will boost you to levels of success and happiness that you did not believe were possible. Far from being ethereal, this book provides scientific and practical help.

  4. I had the original a while back, moved, lost my copy and wanted to explore the book again. I bought the new psycho-cybernetics and am greatly disappointed with it. It tries to be too much, almost like they've tried to add several unrelated "books" of unrelated info to psycho-cybernetics. There are stories and additional paragraphs of information that you're not quite sure what to do with and it clouds the original ideas. Anyone can make a book longer with lots of extra info but a nicely summarized and boiled down series of thoughts is difficult to do so get the original because that's what it is; I just ordered the original again and will leave this "updated" copy in the hotel I'm staying in right now.

  5. Have you ever wondered why all those other self improvemet books sound alike? The messages in Malz's book mirror so many other authors yet, he was before their time. The breakdown of self evaluation then logical steps towards your vision of success make lots of sense. This is an essential piece to anyone's collection of self help books.

5 comments about Secrets of Success: The Science and Spirit of Real Prosperity.
  1. I have studied this subject matter quite diligently over the last year or so. I can honestly say that "Secrets of Success" by Sandra Anne Taylor offers ideas that will undoubtedly help you re-establish a life of blissful manifestation...and I say re-establish because we obviously all took our first breath in this state and then were quickly conditioned out of it by our teachers, parents and society. This is a book that I will definitely read more than once.

  2. this book is not really about money and prestige, or maybe i should say, not just about them. it's really about changing your life and, incidentally, attaining your goals, whatever they might be. it's easy reading, and it's important information. you do have to be open to the possibility that you can change the way you think, and maybe that might influence how your life plays out. it won't work for you if you are committed to continuing to think exactly the way you always have, or if you don't want anything in your life to change in any way. but otherwise, this book is great!

  3. Secrets of Success will put the whole world of personal and business opportunity in your hands! And finally there is included the great and abundant assistance of the spirit (inside and around). You have got to get this book if you want to live to your potential in every arena and in every way. A life guide for all!

  4. Easy reading and easy to follow her approach on changing your thoughts and emotions and thereby changing your life....the Law of Attraction. Very well done and also would recommend Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook because this book too has a different approach (workbook to reinforce) and you should read both.

  5. When my brother recommended this book, I was skeptical about reading it as I've read many other books on the subject and felt I knew pretty much all there was to know on the subject. I visited Amazon and read the reviews and based on the reviews and my brothers insistence, I went ahead and purchased this book. Let me just say that this was the best purchase I've made in quite some time. This book is unlike any other book that I've read on the subject. Secrets of Success is life changing and discusses the law of attraction in a way that is easy to apply from the moment you start reading. I have recommended this book to everyone I love and care about and everyone has had the same kinds of aha moments that I experienced. This title is highly recommended.

5 comments about The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (Unabridged Audio Program).
  1. This is not a listen once, quick fix, instant success miracle audio series. However, it contains great information and "Habits" that, if you can integrate into your life, will vastly improve your effectiveness as a human being. I have listened to this set only a couple of times...I plan on hearing it again, and again, and again. You should do the same.

  2. While this is good, it was so wordy with quite a bit of monotone so it was difficult to stay with the audio. I would try the abridged version next time.

  3. "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" is the most famous title of Stephen R. Covey, a professor of Brigham Young University where he taught prior to the publication of this best-selling work. The audio version became the first non-fiction audio-book in U.S. publishing history to sell more than one million copies. Covey holds a BS degree in Business Administration from University of Utah in Salt Lake City, an MBA from Harvard University, and a Doctorate of Religious Education (DRE) in Mormon Church History and Doctrine from Brigham Young University. He also holds membership of the Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity.

This audio program is mainly about the time management (chapters 1, 2, 3, 7) and interpersonal relationships (chapters 4, 5, 6). The time-management books like "Getting Things Done" by David Allen and "Time Drive" by Gleb Arkhangelsky frequently overlook the importance of interpersonal relationships in the time management.

Many of the ideas and much of the language of "The 7 Habits..." recast the content of the classic 1966 Peter F. Drucker book "The Effective Executive", wherein Drucker wrote: "Effectiveness, in other words, is a habit", and which includes a chapter called "First Things First".

Covey consistently opposes "quick-fix" solutions to life or business problems and insists that changes in paradigm or mindset to align with natural principles provide the "true" source of solutions. The author points out, for example, that the paradigm that produces short-term results in business inevitably leads to an inability to produce results for the long term. He calls this "killing the golden goose". Covey advocates balancing short- and long-term productive capacities as the most effective mindset for the businessperson.

  4. If you are looking for what my opinion is (because, of course, this morning you woke up and the first thing you thought was... what is the opinion of Alana Renfro?) the best motivational CDs out there- then stop your Amazon search and purchase the UNABRIDGED Audio Program of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

Working on the creative side of agencies, corporate businesses and boutique clients, you discover that many creative people do not know how to prioritize what is truly important vs. urgent, begin with the end in mind, or follow-through on set commitments with a trustworthy set of principles and ethics. After all, advertising and marketing can be known for the opposite! Just youtube "ad agency spoof", like "The Truth in Ad Sales" video from the UK or "Truth in Advertising".

My husband is in finances, I am in the creative industry, yet we both are incredibly inspired by this series of CDs. It is applicable to anyone in any industry- you just basically need the interest to better yourself, your business or your personal life. I had read the book previously, my husband had not, yet we both have these CDs in our cars as we drive to and from work and are able to not only learn from Mr. Covey's calming and informative audio, but implement the practices into our personal and professional lives. Also being parents, we've found his insights into families, mission statements, the power of thought and his personal family examples hugely helpful for our children and our perspectives.

As a professional, a wife, a mother, and simply someone who has a drive to better myself and succeed, these Unabridged CDs have changed my life. My husband and I both use the planners, but most importantly- the Unabridged Audio Program of 13 CDs I highly recommend.

  5. I have listend to the 3 disc set and now listening to the unabridged set. Do not waste your time and money on the 3 disc set for an initial training. The unabridged set has more information and examples and well worth the extra $. The 3 disc would be good for a reminder, but not for the initial training.

5 comments about Evolve Your Brain: The Science of Changing Your Mind.
  1. If you're anything less than PERFECTLY happy with your life you MUST buy this book! (and then read it!)

    A tip:
Start reading on page 317! That's the hook. Back-up for all the details (which are fascinating too!).

  2. I first saw the movie, What the Bleep and became curious about the ideas that Mr Dispenza was turning his beam of attention to.. the ones just outside our current vision. As an artist, me thinks we are on the edge of our own perceptions and our learning depends on exploring these limits and pushing them further. I appreciated the "walk thru" the brain and learning the various parts and their wonders. His examples were clear and topics were approached and revisited. I allowed this reading to take it's time and settle into my own understanding. Will we all 'get' that when we use our brains to 'measure' our reality, our 'cups' are all different -just like we are?
Evolution is Jammin' ! His website has a 3-D view of the grey matter and is very fun. There's a moving picture of " a cell reaching for an understanding" (you decide!)

  3. Hi folks. I've met Joe a few times over the past years & I just wanted to extend my thanks to him. He's been very helpful & hopeful to myself and many others. I've bought his big book, Evolve your Brain, and although I may not understand it all as well as Joe does I certainly found it practical & inspiring, like Joe is. Nice book. Thanks again Joe. Sincerely, Harrison Hicks

  4. While this book is well-written and packed with technical information about the brain, it is not at all about "evolving your brain". A better title for this book would be "How the Brain Works". I was on page 320 when I realized this book wasn't going in the direction I hoped it would. Detail after detail about the way a brain works. Quite the opposite of what I hoped.

  5. After reading several books of quantum physic, I new that we are responsible for our own reality. This book reenforce the concept through a different perspective, how the brain work, how the mind and matter are linked.
From now on, it will be one of my favorite books, I fully recommend it.

I only hope next time, Dr. Joe Dispenza writes a new book linking more the mind and the matter topic.
