5 comments about The Right Weigh: Six Steps to Permanent Weight Loss Used by More Than 100,000 People.
  1. At last someone has addressed the importance of looking within oneself for fullfillment when seeking to lose unwanted pounds. The external only approach has never worked for me, despite countless diets and exercise plans. At first Rena Greenberg's plan seemed that it would be too much "work." But as I did the exercises and used the spiritual and practical techniques and strategies, I found that learning about myself was not work, but an amazing journey, and I was able to begin letting go of all of my old baggage about food, and in the process to lose weight and feel healthier and more energetic than I have in years. Bravo to Rena Greenberg!

  2. had much more of a religious focus than I expected after reading an article on the book

  3. This book changed my life! I lost over 100 lbs. with Rena Greenberg's weight loss program. After using the method of self-hypnosis in The Right Weigh, I was able to re-program myself. I actually found myself driving right past the fast food places that used to call my name. I love vegetables now and I'm actually enjoying going to the gym almost daily. Her program works! I highly recommend this book. I had been on every diet out there before I found this method that was recommended by a friend. Also, I'm sleeping better and feel more confident than I have in years.

  4. I simply couldn't get past all the religion being aggressively promoted. Probably a good book if you share her religious zeal.

  5. Rena Greenberg has written an emotional masterpiece for every person who has harbored a life-long "love/hate" relationship with food! I'm a licensed psychotherapist and approached reading this book with a good degree of skepticism. Intellectually, I understood all the techniques outlined in the book. Imagine my delight to find out this book wasn't about "diet" at all! It wasn't about "fat" or "thin", it was about ME.
Following the heart-centered exercises throughout the book has helped me become healthier, happier and 32 pounds lighter without much effort at all. The best part: I eat what I want, as much as I want and still lose weight!

This book is a great read, contains great intellectual and emotional information and is a must for every person who is willing to spend 30 minutes a day on themselves.

Rena Greenberg is a lifestyle revolutionary!

5 comments about The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life.
  1. I almost stopped reading this book after the first hour because I was afraid I would have to rethink my perspective.
I might have to change my ways.
I'm going to set some life changing goals and its all because of Jim Tressel.
I thought this was going to be a "Book of quotes", but its not, its deep.
I actually feel like a better person.
To be a championship team, you must first become a group of individual champions.
It has a religious feel to it, but in a broad and general "Be a good person, find inner peace, be the best you can be in whatever you do, go do good things in your community" type of way.
I already knew Jim Tressel was some kind of super human, i just had no idea how super he was.

  2. Not one to buy positive motivational books I gave this one a try because I admire the author. There is a load of ideas one could adapt for personal use in this book. he author does not try and sell you on 'his program'. He is just sharing what has worked for him and his programs over the years. You pick and choose what you want to do with it.
It is also a good insite into a major college football program.

  3. This book provides much insite into not only Coach Tressels' program and philosophy, but also illuminates many reasons why OSU is able to attract so many quality recruits to their school. With pressure to win year after year in major college sports programs, it is easy to see why a prospective student-athlete and parents would see value at OSU compared to other programs that are more football-only oriented. I did not attend Ohio State so I don't believe I have some of the more fervent bias held by actual Buckeyes. In fact, my son, a current Florida Gator, also read the book and is using the 'Block O of life' guide for his own personal development [even though he doesn't dare refer to it by name while in Gainesville]. I congratulate and thank Coach Tressel in his effort to share part of his program and am sure it will be of some degree of benefit to anyone who reads it.

  4. This book is one of two books that I will use as a reference for self improvement. It was a great "how to be your best" guide. I loved the numerous anecdotes and inspiring quotes. I especially loved the stories about individual YSU and Ohio State football players. This is definately a book you don't want to miss!

  5. The SEC is my favorite football conference, but I wanted to read this book. Jim Tressel shows readers that there is more to his life than football after reading this book. Chris Fabry collaborated well with Tressel. I own 10 different books about John Wooden's Pyramid of Success and the Block O had its genesis from Tressel's interest in the pyramid. This is not a stereotypical coaches book that centers on four yards and a cloud of dust. This expands to real life. John Maxwell writing the forward is indicative of that.

I was impressed with his mentioning of hearing Bobby Richardson and being impacting by hs quote, "If the game of life ended tonight, would you be a winner?" The influence of his parents, especially his father was interesting. I especially saw insights about his thoughts about his dad when he mentioned his dad coaching at Baldwin Wallace University.

I like the anecdote about James Laurinaitis visiting the boy in the hospital who was wearing his jersey when injured in a lawn-mower accident. The by cried when they cut his jersey. I appreciated Tressel mentioning the impact of the American soldiers who are fans of The Ohio State University.

Tressel is an interesting person as a subject for a sports fan. Even though in a short span he went from coaching Youngstown State University to coaching The Ohio State University to a national championship, he considers being more important than doing. That was expressed by his contrition for telling a YSU after he committed a personal foul, "You are not worth 15 yards."

I feel better as a person for reading this book. There are some things I would have liked to have seen in the book. I wished Tressel would have mentioned what he learned as a person from dealing with Maurice Clarett. It would have been nice it book were bigger to include more about The Winners Manual as long as he did not give away information that would be harmful to his team or helpful to his opponent.

I would recommend a coach reading this book and making sure their players read the book for personal development for the whole person.

5 comments about The Secret Lives of Men and Women: A PostSecret Book.
  1. Is there anyone left on earth who doesn't know about these books, the blog, or the website? If so, where have you been? Out of all the coffee table books I've read in the past, the PostSecret series is the very best of the best. I haven't viewed all of them, but will. That's a promise.

THE SECRET LIVES OF MEN AND WOMEN is probably the least favorite of the book thus far. Maybe because it was so thin compared to the other two.

  2. ive been a follower for the postsecret project for a while now and i love the books that theyve produced with some never-before-seen secrets in there.

  3. I think this one is a little less art, a little more content since Warren knew the secrets were a success (and people cared less for the artistic value of the postcard itself). The postcards are presented in ways that are easier to read than in the first postsecret book (I have not read the second book). The pages are also used more efficiently than in the first book. This book's secrets run more on the darker side. I felt a lot more sad reading this one than the first one. I don't think there was but one funny "secret." All I can say is that I hope the people sending these in are being genuine because I'd feel like a chump if they weren't.

  4. I enjoyed the range of emotions the pages and pictures brought out. It was interesting to see so many share without worry. It makes you know you aren't alone in some of your thoughts. Very unique and artistic.

  5. Excellent book - its just fascinating what people put out there for others to read!

5 comments about The Power of Intention.
  1. Dr Dyer has shared an enlightening tool to allow us to become who we would really like to be, to achieve, to accumulate all that we can...on all levels. This book came along in my life at the absolute perfect time, to move me forward, to allow me the inner ability to strive to achieve my dreams. What a journey, so simple! Yet so powerful!

  2. Check out this critical review of Wayne Dyer. It brings up some good points.

    [...]

The article above makes some good points. Why do such wonderful and wise New Age gurus who want to transform lives make their teachings only available to the wealthy? Why not make them affordable to the poor too? Gee, I'm sure there's no ulterior motive in that. (sarcastic)

The same goes for Deepak Chopra. What's hypocritical is that both Dyer and Chopra teach the abandonment of one's ego and promote non-materialist values, yet they both charge thousands of dollars to appear in public seminars, and their books sell for an average of around $30 each! Definitely not for the poor or those on a tight budget. Anyone can see in their PBS seminars that the studio audience members appear to be upper middle class and above.

    Isn't that ironic?

Could it also be that their "thought creates reality" teaching sells to the upper class because it allows them to take credit for their riches and status, whereas such concepts do not sell to the poor who have a more practical view of reality?

    Fascinating. (as Spock would say)

Perhaps what they teach only works in making the rich feel better about themselves, but doesn't offer anything of use for the poor or struggling class who deal with harsh everyday realities. After all, it's easy to those with sheltered lives to sit, meditate and try to "manifest abundance" when they already have it. And it's easier for the rich to "create reality" with their "thoughts" than it is for the poor, because they already have the resources to "manifest their reality" of course.

Nevertheless, many poor people believe in the "thought creates reality" concept as well (e.g. pot smoking hippies, alternative/holistic-oriented youngsters, etc.)

But what I can't figure out is why Deepak Chopra is successful. With Wayne Dyer, it's understandable, because he's charming, personable, charismatic, and has a likable endearing persona as well as a gentle tender father figure image. And he's easy to follow, his voice captivates you and his personality is engaging. But Chopra's voice is dry, dull and monotone. And his personality is not engaging, captivating or charismatic. In fact, there are millions of well read spiritualists in India just like him with the exact same knowledge. So there is no logical reason why Chopra should be successful or famous in his field.

Nevertheless, neither of them seem to be good at logic or common sense. For instance, they can't answer these simple 15 questions of mine about the "thought creates reality" teaching, which are never addressed in their books and seminars. Using simple everyday examples, I show in these questions why their core teaching falls flat on its head.

    [...]

Perhaps they aren't as interested in "truth" as they would have you think. Perhaps they too are only interested in what "sells". Thus they are prone to the same human frailties as you and I. So perhaps we should not put them up too high on the pedestal.

PS - By the way, I just heard that Wayne Dyer got divorced a few years ago, after being married for 20 years to his wife and having 7 children with her. She left him for another man.

Very sad and unfortunate of course. He has my sympathy. But you gotta ask, if his thoughts and intentions create his reality (his core teaching), then how is it that after 20 years of "thinking" that he has a wonderful marriage and family, that his wife would leave him for another man? Why didn't his thoughts keep the "reality" of his wonderful marriage going?

  3. bought this for my husband who refuses to read anything and even doesn't like audio books, well, he just loved these cd's. he starting to listen for the 2nd time and he has even been affected by making some life changes. very good, would recommed to other's like him

  4. I just bought this book in cd version and I'm LOVING it. I'm getting over a Power Of Now trip that I had been on which basically involved thinking that the present is all there is and nothing else matters. I actually owed this book and threw it away along with many others because of my spiritual breakthrough with Echarts work.

This book is linking up unseen events and really confirms my feelings of the unknown. Things just seem to work out for me and my life gets better and better because I'm going against the grain. Thought is very powerful...I had thought that it was useless to a large degree, but now I'm back on track. This book is beyond valuable...worth more than its weight in gold.

Please get this book and allow your mind to soak in the wisdom and guidance.

  5. I came across "The Power of Intention" for the first time a couple of years ago and was impressed by the contradictory nature of Dr Dyer. He appeared utterly ego-centric while advising us of the importance of giving up this very way of thinking. In addition, he seemed to place an emphasis on "success" that seemed very worldly indeed. This angered me, and I dismissed him out-of-hand.

A couple of years later I watched the same program, listening closely to what he was trying to teach rather than listening to him. His program was quite thought-provoking and inspirational for me, a person with limited exposure to the ideas he presented. Dr Dyer's synthesis of his own extensive reading list brings a sense of joy to the process of spiritual growth. His very human presentation reminds us that while not perfect, we can bring many good things to our lives and the lives of others.

5 comments about Feel the Fear . . . and Do It Anyway (r).
  1. I think that this book is meant for every one of us on this earth.Reason is that we all go through tough times in our lives.Sometimes everything falls on our head all at once. Then we have no breathing space. We cannot see clearly were we are going, and what we should do.We are stressed to the maximum. This book shows us a way to analyze ourselves in different prospectives. How to handle things that are good, bad, overwhelming and at the same time destructive.
We need guidance sometimes, and this book has helped me see the light of many things.Friends that unless you share with them their misery will dump you like a sack of potatoes. They use you and throw you away.
Almost losing a loved one, the desperation of that moment, what can you do, so that you can help your loved one live longer and not die in front of you that such thing does not happen. To extend life for many years more.Is it in our power to do so?I think to a certain extent we can extend it.It happened to me.
How to react when you are not welcomed in a different culture. How to accept defeat and yet move on.
I think that we should really analyze how we interact towards each and NEVER take each other for granted. But see the love that is within all of us, and try to express it in every way we can. With a smile, a caress, and a look.It makes the person that sees it feel happy and wanted.

  2. I must say this book helped me to identify some of my fears as far as stepping out into the unknown. Susan Jeffers, wrote an awesome book. All the issues she touched on proved to me that she was once where I am at now. At times I find myself slipping back into my old way of thinking, which usually contribute to the chatterbox in my head.

Her book has given me encouragement and hope that I can someday be relieved from this fear that I have carried around for many years. I just have to believe in myself and know that whatever happens, in the end, it will be alright.

As Susan has written, "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" and that is what I am planning on doing.

Thank you for having the book and delivering it to me in a timely fashion.

God always knows what we need.

    Ivory Rivers-Scott

  3. Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway is a great read. The positive and practical approach to fear and things we dread doing is quite useful. I was surprised to find that the book has been in circulation for more than 20 years and still rings as true as ever.

  4. Its a great book, gives great advice on positive thinking, changing our behaviour to get the best out of life and selves. Recommended to anyone, buy it without fear no matter how old you are or you'll be missing a great companion and friend, in fact you are going to love Susan and see her as a friendly mentor who'll be there whenever you need her..thank you Susan for your wise, kind and helpful advice :)

  5. Anyone struggling with fear or anxiety would do well to read this book. Susan Jeffers has written a wonderful book full of practical advice for overcoming fear and building courage to do what you want to do in life. She does it in a humane way without stigmatizing the person who is suffering. She recounts the story of one person who showed up for her class on coping with fear, and announced that she almost didn't attend, for fear of having a panic attack in front of everyone. Susan then asked her to show the class what a panic attack would look like, and of course, the student was unable to conjure one up. Throughout the book, she tells stories about how people overcame things they were afraid of, and started having fuller lives, using the techniques in the book. One of the main tenets of the book is that fear is not going away, and the only way to get past the fear is to go out and do what you want in spite of the fear. This is not a book you will want to read once and forget about. It is one you will want to refer to time and time again, for reminders on actions you can take to Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway. They are actions you will need to remember to do often, until they become habits.

5 comments about Just Who Will You Be?: Big Question. Little Book. Answer Within. (ROUGHCUT).
  1. A delightful little book which once again re-minded me of the opportunity and the choice that I have to determine who I will be in each and every present moment. It is uplifting and inspiring and I gave a satisfying YES! at the end. It will make a perfect gift for anyone able to hear its message. EAU

  2. This is one book that will cause the reader to stop, think, and consider the direction for his/her life.

  3. I was hoping to give this book to my daughter who just entering college for the second time after taking a year off. I really didn't find it as inspirational as I thought it would be. Maria seems like a lovely person but I really didn't feel like her "problems" were "real world" like the majority of America's citizen's issues thus the book really didn't inspire me enough to give it to her. I'll donate it to the public library. perhaps someone else will be inspired!

  4. This book truly touched me. It is from Maria's heart. From the outside looking in Maria Shriver has it all. She was born into a wealthy, well connected family, had a successful TV reporting career, is married and has children with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is now the governor of California.

When Maria's husband became governor of California she had to leave her job at NBC news. About this time her nephew asked her to speak at his high school graduation. Maria was feeling very lost at this time. This book takes us through Maria's journey of how she figured out what to say and she found who she was along the way.

I loved that this book was all about "Who do you want to be" not what do you want to do. Maria shares that neither fame nor money will make you happy. Happiness comes from within.

Another book I really enjoyed was Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment by Ariel & Shya Kane. It is a book of short stories about "Being". I highly recommend both of these books.

  5. I was able to read this little book in one sitting, but the wisdom shared out of it was inspiring to me.

  1. This book is delightful and moving. I love the artwork of the postcards and will go back again and again to just browse through them. The personal messages on each card are beautiful - some tragic and some funny but all very human. After I read this book I felt that we are not alone with our problems and struggles. We all have things that make us feel sad or ashamed.

  2. After the high rating for this book I was expecting much more. It's the most depressing book I have ever read, and incredibly boring at the same time. It does worry me that there are so many people around us who are this self absorbed and just S A D. Total waste of money, I think, but the "author" is getting rich I'm sure.

  3. This PostSecret collection contains secrets from anonymous contributors of all ages. They are entertaining, moving, and inspirational and some really tug at the heartstrings. If you haven't read a PostSecret book I would read this one first; it's the best in my opinion.

  4. I gave this to my son for his 40th birthday. It was on his Amazon wish list. He had a big party and after this present was opened, it spent the rest of the day being passed around. EVERYBODY wanted to read it. Great gift!!

  5. I love postsecret.com so I had to buy all of the books as they have come out. They are amazing and really make you think.

  2. "Jack Canfield's Key to Living the Law of Attraction" by Jack Canfiel & D.D. Watkins provides contemporary, spiritually based , practical information revealing the latest findings for assisting you & your business to take a quantum leap!

Entrepreneurial wisdom, along with brilliant formulas to enrich your business, & your personal life etc. in order to live in abundance in every aspect of your life.

    Absolutely a must read!

    Even better with:
"NEXUS" a novel about a fascinating psychological/spiritual journey of empowerment & transformation, by Deborah Morrison & Arvind Singh

    Nexus: A Neo Novel

  3. This book is easy to read and is a great guide to applying the laws of attraction.

  4. Thoroughly enjoyed this book...but the most in-depth book on the application of the Law of Attraction is Living The Secret Everyday:My SecretWorkbook. It is an excellent interactive workbook.I use this daily to constantly keep me on track... write in the journal and review the important principles of the Law of Attraction. It has changed my life.

  5. This is my fourth book (all different authors) to read about the Law of Attraction and by far, this is the easiest and the best explanation. Jack Canfield uses simple examples to help you understand what Law of Attraction is and how to utilize its process. The Law of Attraction is like meditating--it's simple, yet can be difficult to grasp and do. Jack Canfield helps you understand it completely and gives you simple exercises to do so that you CAN do it!

  1. A thought provoking, meaning filled book. The type of book you can carry with you and read a passage when you can or placed somewhere in your home so it reminds you to pick it up and read a passage every day. Makes a wonderful gift.

  2. I have only just received the book. I can tell it is going to be a keeper!

  3. This is a small book filled with great wisdom though there are just a few sentences in each lesson. You learn about mindfulness easily.
I have been reading this book loud to my husband this summer and it has created a mindfulness bond between us.
I do recommened this little book.

  4. I have enjoyed reading this little book. I thought the essays would be longer, but I have found the content helpful to include in my morning meditations.

  5. This book is very though provoking and interesting and has beautiful peaceful photographic pictures. It is well written and a quick but deep meaningful read.

5 comments about The Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-Free Play.
  1. Please stop beating yourself up long enough to read this book. I have gotten more done on languishing projects in less time and had much more fun in my life since applying the "Unschedule" instead of my former process that began with an impossible to-do list followed by a day of procrastination and an evening of regret and guilt (sound like fun?). This is a new way of thinking about planning your time that not only works but makes you enjoy your time more. If you have any guilt over things you haven't done (calling all writers!) read this book and take a sigh of relief.

  2. The techniques work. I've been a hard-core procrastinator for all my five decades -- heck, I was even late being born -- but this book has changed my life in less than a month. When you're ready to change, this is the book to buy -- read it, and follow its wisdom.

  3. Just finished my first read and am about to try to put it into practice. I have a good feeling that it will have positive effects.

  4. This book is by far the best book I've ever read on balancing your work and home life, especially if you struggle with procrastination and/or perfectionism.

That's a strong statement, but I've read lots of book on personal self-management and how to organize your time effectively (including "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey and "Getting Things Done" by David Allen) -- and I can honestly say that, for me at least, "The Now Habit" is - by far - the best out of all of them.

If you struggle with having more balance and control over your home and work life, if you allow perfectionism or fear of failure (or success) to hinder your work productivity, or if you just want to start enjoying the good things that life has to offer - while at the same time improving your work efficiency and productivity ... then I highly urge you to get this book. You'll learn how to use time-proven tools (such as the Unschedule) and guidelines on how to make the most out of your life, and starting living life to its fullest extent.

I can't overestimate the value of the principles outlined in this book. Too often people who procrastinate feel angry and ashamed of their behavior - without doing anything to FIX the underlying problem. Neil Fiore not only explains why people tend to procrastinate, but he also provides valuable tools that you can use to overcome your bad habits, and replace them with positive and productive habits.

It's not an expensive or overly long book -- and the best part is that the tools mentioned in this book are quite flexible and can easily be melded with other techniques, such as those outlined in "Getting Things Done" by David Allen.

If you struggle with stress from overwork or procrastination, do yourself a favor and buy or borrow this book. You may have been soured on other books that claimed to help with your problems, but told you nothing more than what you already knew. But The Now Habit really identifies WHY we procrastinate, and gives you the means to overcome it - if you commit yourself to doing them.

Also, if you know someone who struggles with these problem, there's a chapter in the end that gives advice on how to deal with the procrastinators in your life. (Although I think this book would make a pretty good gift for them as well.)

  5. I'm not a usual reader of self-help books, but have been struggling with procrastination for awhile now. This book has given me some specific tools to deal with it, understand it, and not torment myself over it.
