4 comments about When You're Falling, Dive: Lessons in the Art of Living.
- Matousek is right on target with this book. He truly captures the essence of the change a person experiences when they have survived a tragedy. From the fabulous introduction and throughout each story of survival, even (especially) readers who are aware of how suffering has improved their lives will find nuggets of wisdom, as all angles of this phenomenon are explored. I had a hard time putting this book down, and plan to reread it often. As someone who feels isolated by my experiences and the spiritual growth that resulted from them, this book feels like a personal support group I can carry with me.
- When You're Falling, Dive, is a MUST READ for anyone navigating life's stormy waters. This is a remarkable guidebook on plumbing the depths for the metamorphosis available in the darkness. Mark Matousek is a gifted wordsmith, with a unique ability to present profound life lessons in a form that is inviting and accessible. A wonderful storyteller with a keen eye for detail, he invites us to recognize the true power of surrendering to the transformational nature of the hardest times. This incredible collection of stories, from those who have gone to the heart of the fire, and emerged transformed, shows so clearly, that the Phoenix can, indeed, rise from the ashes. As the myths of old tell us, again and again - the true treasures lie in the depths of the cave. Mark Matousek offers comfort and courage to those willing to brave the dragons of fear, loss and grief to reach the reward that lies on the other side. Anyone who has lived through this kind of gut wrenching life change will find, in the pages of this incredible book, the comfort and camaraderie of fellow initiates. Anyone in the midst of the storm will find in it, the hope to keep going, to the great healing that lies on the other side.
- This is SO beautifully written. AND it's so wonderfully compiled. I know from my own experience of losing our youngest daughter, Lauren, to meningococcal meningitis when she was 18 (11 years ago), that our trials and tribulations and absolute lowest points in our lives not only take us to our knees, but afford us an opportunity to grow our souls! I am now a much stronger, wiser, more enlightened individual and, thus, resonated with each section of this very wise, stunningly created work. Kudos to Mr. Matousek for his research, sharing his own hard-won wisdom, and for such lovely prose! Thank you!
- I originally purchased and read this book to share with a friend who is experiencing a reoccurance of breast cancer after 8 years. It proved to be the perfect foundation with which to help her create a "new normal" as she strives to manage her illness. Matousek's book is profoundly spiritual, and an enlightening read. The wisdom and perspective offered in the testimonials provides hope and support for those struggling with chronic illness. I recommend it for caregivers and family members as well, where there is a great void of support/guidance. Anyone close to chronic illness can benefit from reading this book--it is the closest you will come to "walking a mile in their moccasins." And if you happen to be the one faced with health challenges yourself, I believe this book may help to calm fears and promote resilience. You will certainly walk away from it feeling a lot less alone in your struggle. I will keep a copy of this book on my shelf as a reminder of the humanity we are all share.

5 comments about The Aladdin Factor.
- Far too many people wander through life unfulfilled because they lack the skill set needed to experience life to its most bountiful. That's in part due to a fear of asking for that which brings us what we need, want or desire.
People are afraid. Afraid of rejection, afraid of looking foolish, and a whole host of other things. Be afraid no longer. The Aladdin Factor will teach you how to ask without fear.
Canfield's book taught me how to ask in a powerful, confident way that would guarantee my success. Simple phrasing combined with subtle reflection made for a life transforming read.
At Pug Headquarters, it's a must read.

Pug at the Beach: An Island Dog's Reflections on Life
- Many years ago I read a book that changed my life. The beauty about books is they are truly timeless. Recently I revisited this book because the continued buzz about "The Secret" made me think of it.
The Aladdin Factor is a simple fast-track to getting what you want. Originally released in 1995 (around the time Chicken Soup for The Soul series was really taking off), this book changed the way I approached business and personal interactions.
I believe that one of the greatest lessons you will ever learn is included in this book. The art of asking for what you really want.
Canfield and Hansen explore five barriers to asking for what we want:
(1) The first is ignorance. Often, we simply don't know what to ask for. This occurs for many reasons including lack of exposure, not knowing the resources available and not fully understanding our personal desires and yearnings.
2) Second, limiting and inaccurate beliefs keep us stuck in what we know to be true from past experiences. This includes programming from parents, teachers, churches, peers and the media.
3) Fear is the third barrier (and one I believe we can all relate to). It is fear, usually based on past disappointments and experiences, that hold many of us back from asking for what we truly desire. The fear of rejection is particularly debilitating. Fear of looking silly, being humiliated, feeling powerless, punishment, obligation and abandonment are all key players in keeping us stuck.
4) Fourth is low self-esteem. Often we can feel unworthy of love, happiness and our true desires. This is because of inferiority complexes and false beliefs that our needs and wants are worthy of pursuit.
5) Pride is the final barrier and, according to the authors, is especially difficult for men. Although I see this trait in many of my women friends. We tend to remain guarded and not admit that we need help and support. Asking for this sometimes makes us feel inadequate.
The key to getting what you want is simple. Recognize and correct the barriers that apply to you. Become comfortable with who you are and what you really want and need (this may take some time).
Finally, ask for what you want in a way that is mutually beneficial for all involved. The key point I took away from this book (and continue to hold near and dear) is having the courage to simply ask.
Look at it this way. If you really, truly want something, the only way to get it is to take actionable steps, including asking. If you ask for something you want the worse thing that can happen is someone saying "no". Although this may seem devastating, in reality, you are left with nothing less than before you asked. And, if the answer happens to be yes, you have moved so much closer to your end goal.
So, go ahead, ask for what you want. The results may surprise you.
- Good read and a lot of wonderful stories and helpful hints to boot. Worth the purchase. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to find their way to see all their dreams and desires come true.
- The Aladdin Factor is a must have for anyone who has been unable to attain everything in which they desire. The book is analogous with the journey of Aladdin, his encounter with the genie and how Aladdin discovers what he really wants out of life. Jack Canfield does a great job of using real life cases to exemplify the Aladdin Factor. If you don't already know what is, you are missing out.
- The authors are very specific in their advice on getting what you want in life, and their wisdom truly works. I have found that out by experience in using it to advance in my career. This is one of those books you can have complete confidence in: Not a bit of it is commercial psycho babble---this stuff is practical "take it to the bank" mentoring. One of the other customer reviewers called this a must-have book, and he is right. Don't miss out on this piece of gold.

5 comments about The Not So Big Life: Making Room for What Really Matters.
- I got this book from a friend who knows how VERY much I enjoy Susanka's Not So Big House books. I also love reading books about how to improve myself and my life, so this seemed at first glance like it'd be perfect for me.
Unfortunately, since I have read a few self-improvement books, I didn't find anything truly new and helpful here. I appreciate that Susanka is trying to draw in an audience that might not normally buy self-help books, but her writing pace here is slow, lacks passion, and didn't get me fired up to do even the things that I already thought were a good idea. (I think a good editor might have made all the difference here, unfortunately the editor didn't edit much.)
Don't get me wrong, the book is not without value; but for me, growing up with a new-age mom, excited all my life about reading books that help me make the most of myself - I didn't find anything truly new here, and it wasn't presented in a fashion that made up for its lack of newness.
At the end of the book I had three bookmarks in it - one for a quote that showed the importance of our surroundings to our inner life, and two for points that Susanka made that I felt were new takes on old subjects. But overall, I didn't get the cover price in value out of this. Not that I am bitter, the Not So Big House book that I own is falling apart at the seams from use, so I owe the author a debt of gratitude there.
- Incredible! No one should ever build a house without reading this book and the whole series of her books.....it is simply amazing the insight provided .....she sees things at a completely different level; things that are hidden to the rest of us. If you are not building a house this is a great book about life. Will save you thousands of dollars in wasted $ and will insure that you build not just a house but a home!.
- I LOVE the Not So Big House books - I have purchased all of them. I saw "The Not So Big Life" at our public library and took it home, and am I glad I borrowed and didn't purchase it. I enjoy the writing style and outlook of her architectural style books, but unfortunately this book is lacking in practical method in simplifying your life, which is what I expected from the title. It makes annoying assumptions that the reader has the luxury (as obviously the author has) to step back from the real world. Making copious lists of life experiences and their effect on my psyche doesn't do it for me. I tried several times to read it from the beginning, to "flip through," to try and find chapters that applied to me, with no luck. Some reviewers say the book worked for them, but I highly encourage you to check it out at your local library before placing your order.
- This book has been amazingly helpful with looking at my priorities and making time AND changes. Well written and packed with gold nuggets that are helpful in everyday life.
- One of the worst books I've come across in a while--I barely got half way through it. In fact, I was listening to it on audio book in my car on a long trip--good thing I didn't fall asleep at the wheel. Repetitive, mushy, new-agey mumbo jumbo--nothing practical to grab onto here. The most interesting comments in the book were about planning homes--something she REALLY knows about. Stick to architecture, ditch the psychology, Susanka!

5 comments about Bad Childhood---Good Life: How to Blossom and Thrive in Spite of an Unhappy Childhood.
- Dr. Laura really hit the nail on the head when it comes to my childhood. I have successfully "survived" my childhood as a product of divorce, manipulation, neglect, and mental abuse. This book helps people move on and gives those that have moved on a different way to look back.
- This book has some great advice but it is sometimes expressed very rudely. She starts this book out excellently, explaining how isolation dehumanizes people. I loved the first half of this book, but then it got too negative. Most people who have moved on needed and received some empathy somewhere. For those who haven't, find others who can understand what you're going through and hear you out with a positive outlook. I found how to do this for myself and others when I read a great parenting book, Between Parent and Child. I also received empathy from people like this at my church. Oh, and for those who say Dr. Laura is advocating turning to the Christian God to heal, I saw quite the opposite at times.
Jesus taught that forgiveness is essential; Dr. Laura disagrees.
He taught that there are times to cut relationships off; Dr. Laura agrees.
He taught us to love everyone, including Mom; Dr. Laura disagrees.
He taught only those who deserve it should be thought of as family; Dr. Laura agrees.
When she agrees with Christ, I don't think she means to. Minimal references to Christianity was in some of the quotes of real live experiences of those who have moved on to a "good life".
In the back of the book, Dr. Laura shares some of her family life growing up, which I found very interesting.
- If there is dysfunction in your relationships or any aspect of your life (you, your spouse, children, families of origin), this is a must have, must read book. While not written for a particular type of dysfunction, the advice is cognitive-behavioral based and covers a range of criteria for various disorders found when flipping through a DSM-II (Psychiatric Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders).
For example, someone with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) has difficulty with intimate relationships, anger and depression. Dr. Laura does a good job intimating the changes in thinking and behavior that underlie the path out of these issues. This is not to say that this is a recovery book for BPD or any other mental disorder, but it could easily be a supplement to therapy (the treatment of choice for BPD). Furthermore, if your therapist does not agree with the majority of advice in this book (no one agrees with anyone else 100% of the time), I'd find a new therapist or you'll probably find yourself in therapy for years on end with little to no progress. That is, your therapist is letting you skirt personal responsibility for problems in your life (including skirting personal responsibility for HOW and WHAT you think).
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, or one of its progeny, has become the treatment of choice for a wide range of issues that underlie OCD to drug addiction. Many people get caught up in their emotions and work to change them. This method is backwards. By and large, one's emotions are a byproduct of what or how one thinks. Change your thinking, and your emotions will follow. For example, if you want to be happy (basically an emotion), change how you think, and you will be happy. Often, changing your thinking is simply a paradigm shift (not always, of course...shifts won't do a lot for psychosis). Of course without CONSISTENT APPLICATION of these techniques, no advice or therapy is helpful. Change to a better life never falls on one's head while lounging by the pool, sitting in front of a TV or reading yet another self-help book (your thirtieth). If you don't APPLY these changes, your life will never change, regardless of who and what your spouse, children, parents, the auto mechanic or your neighbor does. That's not to say that if any of these people are abusive/evil (vs. sometimes annoying), you don't need to remove yourself from a connection with them. That's part of taking responsibility for your life/yourself. Sometimes applying these changes in thinking requires enormous effort initially. Withstand the discomfort, frustration and one step backwards after three steps forward! It WILL become easier and effortless with practice and time. All of these life observations and advice are part of this book.
As in most of Dr. Laura's books, a recapitulation or sound bite from a call to her talk radio program is woven throughout the text with added commentary. I believe this is helpful in personalizing the advice, as well as reminding the reader that he or she is "not alone" in their issues.
One thing in particular that I liked about this book vs. books in the same vein by other authors is that Dr. Laura gives better insight into what selfishness and/or self-centeredness is and how to change it (which in the end "gets" you more than being selfish or self-centered). So many books advise one to "get out" and do for others (charity work for example). What self-centered people have been neglecting is not charities, but their own significant others, children, jobs, elderly parents, etc. These are one's primary obligations and responsibilities and the first things/people they should begin "giving to" in order to unlearn selfishness and have a more fulfilling life. I can't imagine that a neglected family is going to see or feel a change in their spouse/parent (or their importance to him/her) when he/she ditches the golf clubs and spends Saturdays and Sundays at the soup kitchen instead of the golf course. Nor would this "window dressing behavior" bring about this spouse/parent feeling more fulfilled, connected or less self-centered. By all means, reduce your "me time" and "me thoughts" and give to others "outside" your primary obligations, but only after you have given to those who are dependent on you or make/have made sacrifices for you.
The last chapter of the book summarizes the steps necessary to make a big dent in your life and happiness level. If used as a guide that you stick to (i.e. APPLY CONSISTENTLY), you can't help but have a much better life. While I am less of a fan of Dr. Laura herself (some of her issues have issues ;-) than I am a fan of her advice, (which is usually SPOT ON), she too is growing like all of us, and demonstrates this expressly in her latest book ("Stop Whining..."). Nonetheless, this book coupled with one of her earlier written "Ten Stupid Things Men/Women..." would, in and of themselves, be excellent guides for anyone on this planet. They should be required reading for everyone, the latter especially for your mid to late teen children.
- This book was suggested by my counselor. Little did I know that this purchase would change my thinking of my experiences in life. I would suggest this book to anyone who struggles not only with thier childhood experineces but also with life in the present. I have really decided which "wolf" to feed in my mind. I choose the one who is good, patient, and perservering through this life of other people just like me who make choices that sometimes dissapoint others.
- If you want to improve your life, buy a book from someone who is qualified to talk about the subject. (She isn't qualified ... don't believe me? do a quick internet search.)

5 comments about What's Holding You Back?: 30 Days to Having the Courage and Confidence to Do What You Want, Meet Whom You Want, and Go Where You Want.
- Sam Horn encourages us to reach inside and see what is manifesting by providing tools to strengthen our confidence, believe in ourselves and get out there and make it happen, try something new. I highly recommend reading this whether or not you are in the middle of a career change.
- Sam Horn's intelligent books always stand in a class of their own, with relevant and realistic ideas that can be implemented immediately. This memorable and practical book is a gold mine of inspiration and ideas, and frankly... is a ton of fun to read!
As a professional career coach, I have read hundreds of books in this genre - "What's Holding You Back?" is one of my all-time favorites! For two years, I have been giving this book to my clients as a gift, and have consistently received rave reviews and heartfelt appreciation in response. I truly believe it's an invaluable resource for helping individuals increase their confidence and clarity. I just recently pulled it off my shelf and re-read it for myself, and was once again reminded of its powerful impact.
Chapter 4, "Conversing with Comfort" is simply brilliant! The tips provided on these pages will have even the most introverted individual communicating and "networking" with ease. If you're already an avid `networker' or sales guru - this book will feel like a dear friend, reconnecting you to what you may know, yet often forget. It will no doubt inspire you to "try on" some new ways of connecting to others in a more meaningful way.
I offer my sincere kudos to Horn for this magnificent work, and offer a sincere "must read!" recommendation to potential buyers.
- Positive information provided in easily read chunks! I keep my copy in the car now, and can pull out to read a tip here and there.
- Possibly the BEST book I have ever read. I bring my dog to a park and am constantly approaching other people (especially those who are alone) and reaching out my hand to say hello.
A lot of people there are would like to meet someone but are afraid to approach others. I have a lot of friends there and am always meeting more.
Whenever I have extended my hand to say hello I have never been rejected.
I am just an average looking guy who applies the things taught in this book.
- great book! Examples are great! Unknown issues being handled in addition to the known ones.

5 comments about Pressure is a Privilege: Lessons I've Learned from Life and the Battle of the Sexes (Billie Jean King Library).
- I'VE BEEN A BJK FAN FOR OVER 45 YEARS...I WATCHED HER GROW FROM A GIDDY TEENAGER INTO THE WONDERFUL WOMEN SHE IS NOW..
I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING HER 4 YEARS AGO...SHE IS WHAT SHE BELIEVES..
SHE GIVES HER FANS HER FULL ATTENTION AND SINCERELY ENJOYED MEETING US AND EVEN GAVE US FOREHAND LESSONS..RIGHT THEN AND THERE..
THIS BOOK IS JUST LIKE HAVING A PERSONAL CONVERSATION WITH HER..
IT'S ALSO A LOVING TRIBUTE TO HER PARENTS WHO INSTILLED IN HER SUCH WONDERFUL LIFE VALUES...
IT'S A GREAT READ FOR ANYONE...IT TRULY PUTS LIFE INTO PERSPECTIVE.
- Where is Billie Jean?
I was delighted to get an ARC for Billie Jean King's book, since I think of her as an extraordinary woman, one who has not only been a #1-ranked tennis player, but a woman of integrity, who championed the Title IX for equal disbursement of Federal funding for male and female sports in schools, World Team Tennis, the Virginia Slims Tournament, equal pay for women's tournaments, women's liberation and for non-discrimination in life style choices. I have always admired her for her willingness to take a position, albeit unpopular ones, because it was the right thing to do.
That being said, I am sorely disappointed in her book. It's not that the book isn't well written, as prose goes, it's just fine. And, actually, her subtitle does indicate that her book is about lessons she has learned and The Battle of the Sexes. I was hoping that the book was about more than the subtitle. My mistake.
She does list and discuss these lessons and her set of life principles with great enthusiasm, and I agree with them all.
The problem is that these lessons and principles are not new ones; certainly lots of champions and even everyday people live by these same principles. They are good principles to live by, and it isn't a bad thing to be reminded of how powerful they can be in your life. But she could have talked about all of these things in one chapter, as a prelude to telling us about herself. Instead this book is about stating and then restating (in large boxes at the end of each chapter) her principles and life lessons.
Secondarily, most of the rest of the book is about the tennis match for the ages - The Battle of the Sexes - with Bobby Riggs. Billie Jean would chat about other events in her life in a vague sort of way, but they always let back to some more conversation about the Bobby Riggs match. The book has 187 pages of text. She begins on Page 20 (following a preface and an intro) mentioning Bobby Riggs and the match. The story continues with him, ad nauseum, up to page 97, when Billie Jean states that she wants to make a "final observation" about Bobby Riggs. I thought - whew! - Enough already, we're going to get to the story of Billie Jean. Except, that promise of release from Bobby inanities was broken and Bobby continued to be discussed throughout the book and was last cited on page 186.
I agree that, in retrospect, that tennis match was more than just the entertainment, more than the spectacle. At the time a statement about women in sports, women as champions and equal rights was being promoted. But enough already! It was also just a tennis match. In equal retrospect, any number of other important events could be cited in that same vein - we just don't need 187 pages of it, couched in between lots of not-new lessons of life.
In reading this book, I relearned one of my own life lessons. Never let your expectations exceed a reasonable payoff -- you're bound to be disappointed. I went looking for Billie Jean and got Bobby Riggs and platitudes instead.
I think that Billie Jean is worth much more, that her life story would be profoundly more interesting that this rather trite and ultimately uninteresting account. Too bad she didn't write that book.
- GREAT READ! GREAT GIFT! I am going back to buy 10 more copies as gifts for my mother, father and other family and friends!
As a former college athlete - one of the millions of women who benefited from the hard work of and changes created by Billie Jean King, I was thrilled to read personal thoughts, memories, and advice - straight from Billie Jean King herself!! This is a quick, entertaining, and informative read that gave me countless tools to better deal with personal and professional life challenges. I HIGHLY recommend it! I'm giving it as a Christmas gift to everyone I know!!!
- Billie Jean King is one of my heroes. She is from my generation, and as an amateur tennis player, she is "the greatest" to me.
This is an advice book, full of ideas useful on and off the court. There is no greater advocate of women's sports and tennis in general than this lady.
The book relates the impact of her famous match against Bobby Riggs, her preparation for the match and realization of what it meant to all women. How proud we all were when she "beat the socks off of him."
While she has achieved equal pay for women at the major tournaments, she herself played the best of five sets against Riggs, something women still do not do in pro tennis. Some critics say that women should play the longer matches to earn equal pay.
Regardless of one's opinions about tennis tournaments, this is an excellent compendium of advice for facing all sorts of challenges in life. Those who excel at something certainly earn the higher level pressures they face, hence pressure is indeed a privilege.
It is a small, short book, well worth the time to read and expenditure of the low Amazon price.
- One upping a man in tennis thirty five years ago has given Tennis star Billie Jean King much to think about. "Pressure is a Privilege: Lessons I've Learned from Life and the Battle of the Sexes" is her autobiography of her life as a figure for feminists and a model for gender relations. With a good dose of common sense and wisdom, "Pressure is a Privilege" is a memoir worth reading for a look into a mind of an everyday woman who did wonderful things.

- How to Get Control of Your Time and Your Life (Signet)
This is very simple and yet practical. The purpose of this was to use in coaching an employee but it is serving me well also. It's good reminders, and clarification between goals and activities and the need for continuous prioritization is not brand new but logical and practical enough to work for anyone.
- Everything you do and achieve is dependent on how you manage your time.
Is what you are doing now the best use of your time?
Are you focusing on what is most important to you?
If not, then why aren't you focusing on doing what needs to get done.?
If you were to create a top 10 list of life's essential books or maybe a list of say the best dozen guide to life books, two of them should be about how to manage your time. Because all that you ever do and achieve in your life will depend on how you manage and use your time.
Put this one and Dan Kennedy's no BS time management book, No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs (No B.S. Series) on your required reading list.
Learn to stop procrastinating and get rid of people that prevent you from focusing on what is important.
Become much more proficient at getting things accomplished.
This little book will show you how to prioritize things and focus on the things that matter most.
You only have a limited amount of time. Make the most of it and use it on stuff that matters to you.
- Buy this book for any recent college graduate you know and make sure they read it.
This is a fantastic study in time management that will be valuable to you no matter what age you are. His tips strategies and activities will force you to take a mental inventory, and commit them to paper, so that you can literally "Get Control of Your Time and Life." As a recent college graduate, it has opened my eyes early in my professional work experience so that I can avoid getting into a rut and being overloaded with work, family, and friends.
His advice is extremely practical and something that can be done easily by everyone nowadays. It is in some cases redundant, because you feel like you do some of these things anyway, but the manner in which he presents them allows you to fully understand the concept. This is a quick and fantastic read that you will recommend to family and friends throughout your days. It is interactive, well written and genuinely eye-opening.
- The one thing that we all have but use differently is the 24 hour day. No one gets more than 24 hours in a day. The people in control are the people that know how to effectively manage the 24 hours in a day. No one can save time. We can only use time. The ones that use time wisely get more done and are more successful.
- What do you want it to say on your tombstone? A,B,C priorities. Get more accomplished by compartmentalizing your tasks. Write a letter to someone far away like a diary entry over several days! That is what I learned to do after reading this book. Leant out first copy, never got it back! Thanks Carmenza! Anyone wanting to increase their potential needs this book as a primer. Remember if I bought it here it was because it was a standout in my life!

5 comments about Breaking the Curse of Willie Lynch: The Science Of Slave Psychology.
- This is an excellent book, if you want to understand the terrible system
of slavery, and it's present day ramifications this is a must read book.
paradise Island
- THIS BOOK LITERALLY CHANGED THE WAY A THOUGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY. ALL BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY SUFFER FROM CURSE OF WILLIE LYNCH. HE DEVELOPED A PLAN TO CONTROL ALL BLACK PEOPLE FOR OVER 300 YEARS AND IT HAS BEEN A SUCCESS. WE STILL ARE CONTROLLED BY THIS CURSE AND MANY BLACK PEOPLE DON'T EVEN REALIZE IT. PLEASE GET INFORMED ON WHAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN HISTORY AND ALWAYS BE AWARE OF WHAT IS GOING ON NOW IN THE 21ST CENTURY. SLAVEERY IS STILL GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY, BUT NOW IT IS MORE MENTAL THAN PHYSICAL. WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO HATE OURSELVES AND SETTLE FOR LESS ON EVERY ENDEAVOR IN LIFE. BLACK PEOPLE EVERYWHERE.. THIS IS NOT BY ACCIDENT OR BY MISTAKE. THIS IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY AND WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN CHANGE IT BY BEING EDUCATIONED AND GOING TO COLLEGE. THE AUTHOR OF THIS BOOK REALLY DID HIS HOMEWORK BECAUSE THE BOOK IS A STEP BY STEP METHOD OF CONTROL THAT WILLIE LYNCH DESIGNED HIMSELF. THE SAD THING ABOUT THIS BOOK IS THAT IT IS ALL TRUE AND IT STILL IS IN PRACTICE TODAY.
- The Willie Lynch method of controlling your slave: turn the old against the young, the light against the dark the male against the female and cause them to believe that you (the master) hold the key to their happiness. This science worked three hundred years ago and still works today. Fortunately more of the affected group are becoming enlighted and no longer believing in the science of slave psychology. But some have not seen the light. They do not read and do not listen. I wish that everybody no matter the ethnic identification will read this book. I believe this knowledge will help bring unity.
- Breaking the Curse of Willie Lynch is a profoundly insightful book. It is evident that a significant amount of research was done in preparation of this writing. I was in awe at how Mr. Alvin Morrow incorporated not only history but science nutrition and spiritually in the development and breaking of slavery. I have recommended this book to so many of my peers and look forward to ordering more copies for African-American children in the public school system. Too many Black and White children are unaware of the "true" history of this country and the causes and effects of slavery. I think this book would create at the least curiosity in the minds of any individual willing to learn more about the damage of slavery.
- great book has some great ideas in it about slavery and the havoc it has
had on black life in general.every person that wants to end that cycle of hatred really need to read this book so that they can see that all of this
stuff was done by design.for all of you wanna be thugs and hardcore people
that think you are fighting the system by being self destructive and not taking care of your kids and playing games with your babies mommas.that also applies to the women who dont want to get there act together either.you are doing exactly what they want you to do.you are destroying the family
unit and by doing that you are making sure that your children continue in
that same vicious cycle.ITS TIME TO WAKE UP. YOU PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SLEEP FOR TOO DAMN LONG.

5 comments about Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from The Power of Now.
- I read this after New Earth and I can't believe the peace that really exists. I've tried some of the exercises and meditations and the feeling is beyond me. It's very challenging to keep it up through everyday life, but certainly is something I hope is with me forever.
- The teachings of this book are a tremendous help in turning my life around and being a happier human been.
- This is a wonderful stand alone tool or a complimentary tool to the Power of now book. Powerful and insightful. I always have it near me.
- This is a wonderful companion piece to "The Power of Now". Meditation is a great stress reliever. And not worrying about where you came from or where you are going is the key to enjoying the present moment. great book.
- This Power of Now has removed the torture of many of the regrets of my past and fears of the future.

5 comments about The Difference a Day Makes: 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours.
- For some, compassionate feelings can overwhelm spare time and energy: readers with such a problem should consider The Difference a Day Makes : 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours a kind of recipe collection for doing good. Turn good intentions into powerful action with a guide which provides vast lists of good things which can be done in a few simple minutes or hours; from providing a resource list for a neighborhood to encouraging workplace and home use of the arts, and assisting an elder who has a pet.
- What a refreshing read - both thought provoking and resourceful, In today's "information overload" society, it's nice to have a handy resource to help me accomplish many of my personal volunteer goals without it being so much work. In fact, I'm going to buy copies for all my nieces and nephews as they are all charged with doing community service projects and, in my opinion, need to experience that "giving back," among other things, makes you feel good about yourself!
- This is a nice book. It shows how simple everyday deeds can have a positive impact upon the world. Too often people who genuinely want to do something good for society honestly don't know how to go about achieving anything. This book gives great suggestions and points would-be philanthropists in the right direction.
- "The Difference a Day Makes" is a terrific book. Karen has done a great job in communicating the importance of giving back every day. There were several new ways to give that I learned through reading this book. It is easy to read, understand and implement in your daily life. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to make a difference (and that should be everyone).
- This book contains a lot of information on ways you can make a difference. It is great for parents to consider if they are looking for family activities that teach their children about the world around them. As a single person, this has given me some great ideas of ways I can help others and feel like I am making more of an impact in the world.
