1. I picked this book up after a friend suggested I read it. I read a chapter a day until I finished the book. Dr. Cornish compiled some things we as black women tend to do (she even admitted making some of the same bad choices) outlines the problems, and offers wonderful suggestion to help us STOP making the same bad choices. Bottom line is you have to be willing to hold yourself accountable and admit you are making these mistakes, and be willing to stop them. She will tug at your heart when she discusses the deaths of her mother and Aunt to men, and discusses how their bad choices played a role in their deaths. Six out of every black woman are either in bad relationships, share a man or choose to be celibate. Are you one of those six women? I also feel this book is not just for black women. I think any woman can read this book and find something in this book they can use to help them make wiser life choices.

   I wish every black woman would read this chapter!!! It's time for the madness to stop!!! We need to stop talking about each other, and really learn to love our fellow sisters.

   One or more of these chapters will wake you up and make you take stock of your life. Take stock of the choices you have made, and hopefully you will make better choices in the future. This is an excellent book!!!



2. First off, if I could give this book 0 stars, I would. Second, notice the title refers to the things black women do to mess up their lives, but all TEN mistakes are about relationships. Last I checked, women make a whooooole lot of mistakes than just sleeping with other people's men. Oops! I forgot - all black women are out to do is get rich, black husbands.
   
   Also, there is NOTHING in this book that solely relates to black women. This easily could've been written by a woman of any race, directed to an audience of any race. The only thing Dr. Cornish mentioned that's even remotely ethnic-related was skin color, the light versus dark angle. But guess what - replace "light" and "dark" with "skinny" and "fat" and you're right back to the issues that ALL of us face as women. Is this woman honestly trying to tell us that only BLACK women sleep with married men, or sleep with men too soon, or rush into marriage too early? Please. Cornish touches very briefly on the issues of interracial relationships as well a VERY short mention on bisexual men. The way she was able to cram in so much homophobia on just a couple of short pages is a talent, indeed. As for white men, I'll spoil it for you - if the relationship the woman is having during of Cornish's little stories is ANYTHING but a black man, the dude is evil.
   
   My problem isn't with the poor writing, the constant mention of her other book, or the repeated mentions of her TV show, the HORRIBLY annoying rhyming titles that are on EVERY...FRIGGING...PAGE, or the fact that Dr. Cornish doesn't even bother to discuss WHY some women act as they do (the only childhood trauma she touches on is her own), or the fact that some single woman is trying to tell other single women how to have successful relationships. (What's next? Is Oprah going to write a book about parenting?) My problem is her writing a general relationship advice book with was full of nothing but "no DUH" kind of so-called tips (don't sleep with a married man? WHOA, NO KIDDING!) and then pushing it off as a book solely for women of color. By painting us as a bunch of needy, gold-digging, colorstruck idiots, Dr. Cornish is no better than the TV producer she berates so heavily in the first chapter.



3. This book is a must-read for any woman who wants to face her reality about bad relationship choices, and make a turn around for the better. I have to warn up upfront: Dr. Cornish is very straight-forward (yet compassionate at the same time). If you have personal issues and not ready to face the truth about yourself, you may get bitter when the truth sets in and try to bash the book. But if you are a level-headed person who is really seeking to better her life and relationship choices, you will love this book!
   It was "required reading" for our University sociology class project. Each student had to do a thorough report and chapter-by-chapter overview of the case studies Dr. Cornish used in the book. She did a great job mapping out how our personal environment affect our personal choices, and demonstrated how "you can change your life, by changing your choice." It is basic, yet brilliant, the way she communicates in a non-threatening and helpful tone. I can see why Dr. Cornish won so many national and international awards for this and many of her other books-- she is an excellent writer!
   The book is down-to-earth and easy to read-- The case studies are so honest, that many will make you rethink your life, some will make you angry at the truth, but others will make you laugh with relief. Thank you Dr. Cornish for providing such a helpful tool to show us how to prevent and/or heal from poor relationship choices. By the way, thirty-three students gave this book an excellent review! (only two out of the entire class were negative) That's exellent considering the amount of people who loved 10 BAD CHOICES. And,let's be real, "you can't please everyone all the time," but this book certainly pleased me--a big THANK YOU to Dr. Cornish for this important, eye-opening work. I love it!!! What a special gift she is to black women and all women! (I don't believe a busy celebrity like Dr. Cornish ever gets the time to read these reviews, but if she ever does, I'd like to personally say: Keep up the good work-- we certainly need and appreciate you.)



4. I ordered this book mainly from the title, description and reviews. I work in my church with young women and i thought it was a catchy title. I had a co-worker that immediately wanted it when she saw the title. I ordered it for her birthday. The incredible part is that i had a male friend that took the book before "I" read it and commented on everything. He actually enjoyed it! I could relate to a lot of things that were in there. I can't wait to read other books by her.



5. I bought this book for myself and for others as gifts. Women young and old will see themselves in various aspects of this book. I enjoyed reading it immensely and have loaned my copy to my friend who is going to share it with her five daughters. I highly recommend this book as must do reading for all women!

1. Yippee! Not too often am I able to write a good review about a
   dating books for older women. In fact, I can't remember the
   last one that I liked. But finally, a good one!
   
   "Flings, Frolics, and Forever Afters: A Single Woman's Guide to
   Romance After Fifty" by Katherine E. Chaddock and Emilie
   Chaddock Egan is a winner.
   
   Here's what I liked about it: This book was clearly written by
   two women over fifty who have been there and done that. They
   know what they are talking about and know how to write -- yea!
   Chaddock and Egan do not talk down to their reader and do not
   infantalize us with cutsey cartoons or think we won't see
   through shallow information. This book is PACKED with
   information. Granted, once in awhile, the authors do slip into
   some not-so-adorable labels like "The Pin Cushion" and "The
   Violin Player," but hey, none of us are perfect.
   
   There's too much good in this book for me to pick out
   illistrations. But I did particularly like what they called "the
   nightie slide" (pg. 174) for finessing the "getting naked" part.
   
   I did NOT like "The Magnolia Principle - the full court girly
   push." Could be because it came from a woman who lived in
   Oxford, Mississippi. I'm in Florida now, but Mississippi is too
   recent in my memory to be able to romantisize Southern Belles.
   
   So, I liked "Flings, Frolics, and Forever Afters" and recommend
   it to any single woman over 50 who is stepping into the dating
   fray. It'll help, believe me!

2. This book is basically aimed at people who are prepared to turn themselves into lobotomized geriatric Barbies. One reviewer comments here that she doesn't approve of them telling women to fake an orgasm --- what I find even worse is advising women to get facial surgery! (Hey, don't forget that American culture dictates that you only have yourself to blame if you no longer appear to be 35.)
   
   The basic premise is that, because of the reduced number of men available for us menopausal mavericks, we have to enter into stiff competition with the other ladies in order to be fitter, better dressed, whiter-toothed, and overally boucier and happier than our competition (heaven forbid that a potential partner might see the real person). This reminds me of advice I read in a teenage magazine some 40 years ago: "A *really* clever girl knows how to lose *convincingly* at tennis". My attitude is now what it was then --- if that's what it takes, count me out.
   
   Also, most of the advice is for people without "real lives". If you are engaged in an actual active, engaging career (you know, one where you might be unable to just up and move to some other place in the US because the dating prospects might improve), you don't have time for all this gym hopping, manicure parlour visiting, volunteering, joining sports clubs etc. Hey --- Georgia O'Keefe didn't have to put up with this nonsense.
   
   Oh, and yes, I *am* "over 13" (even in dog years).



3. I was disappointed in this book for all the reasons mentioned by Ms. Janis. All of her comments ring true, everyday. I too remember articles about losing at tennis or "50 ways to make him happy" published in magazines of my youth. I also remember being told that if I wanted to find a man, I had to be less-smart and ditch my glasses. Well here I am, new to the 50 Club, still wearing glasses and smarter than ever! If my only chance for finding romance with a man who may have ED, looks as bad as Jack Nicholson did in "Something's Gotta Give" and is hooked on Viagra - I'll stay home and watch old movies on TCM. In short, why should I sacrifice who I am and bother with the face-lifts, new teeth and other false-hoods that society still fosters when all men over 50 want is a younger woman who will boost their image and ego. Amen!



4. This is a fun book, written by two very enthusiastic, positive women. I found it very enjoyable to read and got a kick out of it. This is a terrific book for women who are looking for a romantic partner/marriage or those who just need to get out of a tiresome routine. This book has lots of good suggestions on how to leave the doldrums/stagnation and get into the social swim. It is encouraging and very optimistic. The book offers good guidelines on how to zero in on a man who is suitable and harmonious while respecting and honoring your own needs and wants. The writing exercise on Action Goals and Life Pattern Goals is very valuable, regardless of where you are in life!



5. This IS a fun read, and addresses all the aspects of flings and frolics and forever afters in a manner that helped me determine what is right for me. Definitely a romantic look at all the possibilities, it helped me think about aspects of dating I may not have considered. This one gave me the courage to get out there because it also gave me a sense of my own boundaries and how to honor myself.

1. "Dolphins, Love and Destiny" is a beautiful book, so inspiring, fluid and creative. Ilona's uplifting and gentle voice inspires us to journey into our own realms of consciousness. The book is so moving and compelling that every time I read even just a few pages, I feel so energized and uplifted afterwards!! The way she describes traveling through inner states is so vivid and colorful that it makes us realize we can all achieve, live and travel within these inner holographic pathways. 2. Ilona Selke has managed to adress the most challenging theme for humans in these times with an amazing honesty, clear thoughts and inspiring eloquency. Her story is capturing and I found myself entering more expanded areas of consciousness while reading her book.

1. this kama sutra is true to the original. lots of reading about how to love and your roles before and after becoming a spouse. The cover is fabric and it has a cute little clasp, very classy. But it you're looking for a picture book, this isn't it.



2. This book is not at all what I was looking for. It is mainly about the qualities to look for in a mate in medieval India. While it does have really pretty pictures, there are only about five and they are used over and over in the book. If you want to learn medieval dating techniques and attitudes towrads sex, then this is the book for you. otherwise, don't buy it.

1. The book is simply amazing in its approach to finding the G-spot!
   within moments me and my Gal were in heaven WOW..I also like the fact that it shows so many different levels of relationship building. Its really easy to read. Simple to actually find and do and only took me about 40 minutes to finish reading the whole book! I've re-read it many times now and I am finding different levels of understanding each time.. 1. In 1990 I read this book and was fascinated with the insights. But I was about to start graduate school in a different state, so I wasn't ready to begin looking. Shortly before I graduated, I told my co-worker that I planned to be married within a year, much to his skepticism. Nine months later, I was married, and I'm still happily married more than ten years later.
   
   The hidden beauty of this book is how it gave me life skills to recognize the value of the person that is my wife, through very difficult times.



2. This book helped me get "ready" to meet my now fiance. I cannot praise it enough, and I credit this single book with helping me make the breakthrough away from micromanaging every person I dated, to letting it all flow so I could find the person who I felt like myself around (and her too!). And don't forget the sections on not wasting a single second on someone who is unavailable to you. How many of us have pursued such time waisters?



3. I bought this book when I was a college student. I love it! I found my husband because of this book's help! The funny thing is...Right before I got married, my mom worried about me so much.She bought this book and sent it over to me. :) ....Moms always worry about you, no matter how old you are. They think you are only 3 months old...

4. As the title makes clear, this book is a repudiation of the notion of a perfect mate. Sills, the author, allows the person to make an "I wouldn't consider as a candidate for a mate anyone who..." list, but with only three entries. And one has to be specific, and this can be very difficult. The 3-limit list owes to practical reasons, if nothing else: "No one I've every met has been such an exquisite package themselves that he or she was entitled to enjoy contempt for more than three characteristics of other human beings. It's not only self-inflating, it's self-defeating."
   
   Sills allows for some relationships to begin with fireworks, and others to develop gradually. She also believes that no one in a relationship should feel entitled. After all, many men come home to fix their own dinners, and many women have to care for their home and children as well as earning an income.
   
   So how do you know if you've found the right person? Sills comments: "Does your prospective mate's view of you increase your self-respect? Does his or her attraction to you help you feel attractive? Does that person bring out or enhance the things you consider your strengths? Does he or she soften your failures and shore up your weaknesses? Are you a better version of yourself as you experience it because of your connection?"

1. Other than finding true love, finding true work is just about the most important thing we can do to feel fulfilled. True Work helps you discover your passion, look for synchronicities along the way, and realize that the path to true work is a journey, not a destination.



2. I found this book very insightful in a personal way. It has many real life stories and examples of people finding true meaning in what they do, as well as practical advice on how one can apply some of these lessons. Though it's not presented in a multi-step "follow these rules to success" manner, this book contains many pertinent insights on how we the reader can apply new points of view in our daily lives.



3. For anyone interested in finding and/or following your passion this book delivers a wealth of wisdom.True Work should be required reading for college students/graduates as well as anyone with a high school diploma.A real contribution!



4. I want to give a copy of this book to everyone I know: I kept having that thought while I was reading the book and moreso now that I have finished it. Which means to me, that I should not give it to anyone but to apply the ideas contained in the book in my own life.
   "True Work" is as important as anything that Joseph Campbell has written. It comes from Michael and Justine Tom's own life experience and contemplation of that experience.
   The book shows how to integrate work into one's fabric of life, because work is one of life's threads, but it is not the whole cloth. Again, it is a profound work.



5. Bought for a friend who was searching for work. Ending up keeping it myself when I started reading it (bought another copy for friend.) Poignant and relevant to more aspects of life than just work. A must read for anyone who is spiritually-oriented and committed to making a difference in life; for themselves, their family and friends, and the world. Extremely relevant to the changes we are currently and will be faced with. Truly uplifting, inspirational, and worth reading again and again. A MUST READ.

Hello ! i have just have read the first chapter of the book till now but i already can understand what emathy is all about. the style is simple and readble. interesting. i undersatnd how to be more empath than in the past. now i see how i wasnt empath in the past and apreciate the people that empathy are their natural whey of understanding people. a good book. this is the first book that i have bought about empathy so i cant compare it to other books on theat subject. i wish i have read it before.

   From the first few chapters i still do remember that Childrens do also know how to used the Power of Empathy to please the parents especially a daddy while after his working day...by trying the power of empathy to make the daddy to bring her out of the house..!! goodness, this is a real factual one that i had used once when i was a kid.
   Well, this book is well written and as a layman people we shall be easily understand caused we are actually know what is the real feelings of the Empathy...while i do strongly believed that all of us here does have the abilities of Giving or recieving Love here...while we are reading this book...searching what is the Power of Empathy....!!
   Before i got this book i have not feel the real power or real understanding of being Empathy. As after sucessufully reading the whole book while during the last few chapters they do teach use how to be..step by step teaching us how to overcomes those setbacks...teaching us how to determine a person behaviours, how to know he is making used of us by using the power of Empathy that shall be given them a lots of advantages.
   While I do also learn what is the real power of it while you must read it with a learning mode.....while try to understand what is the book teaching here....read it with a slow motions..while this book i will surely will be using as a reference book for a methodologhyy to teach myself to be fully understand what is the real power of Being empathy so it will effects the real life of me especially i am a not a fully awared of it of being empathy ....to forgive people..understand people feelings...to see what people thinking...and so on...!!

   I will not say to much here...the rest is up to you to read on...while i am just wamt to add on before i will stop here....!! This book is a good book for layman as me, i can easily understand what is all about being Empathy, the plus and negative side....while also the true stories to convinced you to believed it while this world is full of factual one...and off-course those stories does gave me a real teaching for me..while i do understand what is the real effect of being one of the good societies that practised the power of the Empathy at the good side...!!

1. Having been out of the dating scene for awhile I thought I might pick this up. Ok, so it's been 10 years. I've been wrapped up in alot of things and just didn't have the time. This book is one I picked up just to bring me up to date on whats going on. There is alot of useful information for me but like I said I've been in the dark ages for awhile. It's a good book and one you should read if you've been dateless for some time.
   
   Truth is the one I missed on was this whole switch to online dating and let me tell you I was lost. But I picked up a few more books on this subject so I wouldn't get blindsighted out there. I would strongly recommend to any man or woman out there the one that got me off the ground and soring so to speak. " How to get the Woman of your dreams using the Internet" and "How to get the Man of your dreams using the Internet" What mroe can I say but there is nothing that isn't covered in this book, and when your done you can't keep up with all the responses :)



2. If you've been away from the dating scene, divorce, dumped on, separated... you name it then this is the book that you'll want. I had applied most of the lessons that were highlighted in the book and it total changes my approach and strategies to dating. Now, my friends are using the same book and I could be any happier with my successes =-)



3. Very informative. Not the usual fluff these types of books are prone to contain. Provides real information and an honest view of what to expect.



4. All the dating rules have changed since I became single again. Sure, some things remain the same. Be polite, honest and have a great sense of humor. The biggest thing that is different is Internet dating. The idea of going online is a concept my generation could never conceive of, since there was no such things as personal computers during my dating years. After 30 years of marriage and a protracted divorce, I was ready to get back into the game, but scared to death. This book was very helpful, insightful and easy to read. I would recommend it for anyone who wants to start fresh. Since I'm a baby boomer, there was another book that has helped me more than any other. The author of Baby Boomer Bachelorette: How to Have Sex at Least Once More Before You Die doesn't pull any punches when she urges baby boomers to separate themselves from the herd and change their lives. And she is right there ready to tell you exactly how to do it. She says not to bother with trying to meet people anywhere other than the Internet. Sounds like good advice to me. Buy both books, and then go for it!



5. Tina Tessina has written a wonderful book on dating that tells it like it is! There's "life" out there in the singles world - and she tells you how to make the most of it. "The Unofficial Guide to Dating Again" is informative and quick-paced with all kinds of practical advice that makes getting back in the dating scene easy. The chapters are smart and right on target.
   
   I know so many men and women who need to read and re-read her sections on: "Not just looking for dates but enjoying life," "Invite Interest by Showing Interest," and "Focus on Fun and Friendship." Too many people don't do this - and its soooo important! Even if you've been out in the dating world a while, this book is a great way to brush up on your dating skills and review some new possibilities. In fact, I think a lot of married couples would perk up their relationships by reading the sections on Sexual Intimacy and Communication!
   
   For people re-entering the dating scene after being attached a long time, author Tessina takes the fear out of going back to being single. This should be on the "Gift Registry" for anyone who's ever been divorced!
   
   So if you'd rather die than date - don't! Get yourself a copy of this book and you'll be ready in no time for dinner and a movie with someone new. It's a terrific guide for both men and women back in the dating scene.

Nance McCullough has improved her 'Love Book' (Love formulas: the works!) with updated and new charts and a new chapter with insightful new observations about the position of the sun, moon or ascendant in your partner's 7th house. This new edition is more appealing, more professional and the layout has changed. As the Love Book, this edition is full of wisdom, real life experiences and true astrology. Tried and true methods that have have stood the test of time since Nance wrote her first edition. The author is a real promotor of the equal houses and I have been using them too besides the Topocentric system that I've been using for a lot of years (since reading Alexander Marr's books). Nance has a point: the equal houses really do work, though I still remain using the topocentric system (especially in solar returns because when you see an intercepted sign in a solar return you KNOW that the meaning of this interception will definitely come into the open in the second half of the solar year). There is so much that still amazes me in this book (as in the first edition): the numerous methods that she mentions without getting difficult (the extra bad aspects, bad aspects, extra good and good aspects; the elements; arabic parts; a most interesting topic about numerology and cycles; strong accents of planets or aspects or dominant planets; etc... etc...). Still there is no other synastry book like her's. It's just wonderful.

3. Nance McCullough's book, Love Formulas- 2, is a wonderful little book that explains astrological synastry and its many accurate intricacies in an easy to read, almost conversational style. I found myself fascinated and unable to put the book down as I applied her revelations to my own relationship charts. Her insights about aspects provided me with some amazing "aha!" moments, as if she had interviewed those of my personal concern, read their charts and supplied me with the exact understanding I was looking for. Her examples are personal and compelling. I have a substantial collection of books on this subject and her's is a welcome addition. She does not just rewrite what is already known but has provided new meaning that, much to my surprise, resonated with my soul! Primarily writing about chart overlays, she touches on other interesting methods of relationship analysis, particularily, numerology.
   I liked her aspect analysis the best. I am sure I will find myself refering to her work over and over as a great resource in my future explorations of synastrical analysis. I highly recommend this book to those interested in relationship astrology.

   This book is the total opposite of the floral-cookbook style material u so often find on relationship astrology. To-the-point, compelling and very pragmatic, i really like the way Nance McCullough illustrates with examples the astrological interaction between two individuals.
   Much recommended.
