1 comments about Getting Better Together: Living the Good Life With Someone You Love.
- GETTING BETTER TOGETHER is about your marriage relationship and how to recover the closeness and fun times that you once had. Tips on communication, conflict resolution and other important factors will help in the process. Here is a quote from a letter the author received:
"Our homes are in such serious condition today. So many of them are coming apart and I was just amazed at this article [excerpt from GETTING BETTER TOGETHER] that I thought did such a good job in encouraging families to stay together and in telling them how to do it." --D.F., Pastor, Indianapolis, IN

3 comments about Obsessive Love: When Passion Holds You Prisoner.
- There are a lot of people who think that divorce is wrong, or a full-blown sin. I believe all of those people, as well as others, should read this book. Dr. Forward points out that leaving a relationship is a right, not a privilege, and gives an insightful portrait into the motivations of people, married, divorced, or single, who just can't let go. PLEASE READ!
- Its a great book for those in a painful relationship. Its just worth reading.
- I can't remember how I found out about Obsessive Love. I started looking up things on the internet and came on to this topic. I have been going to counseling for Co-Dependency which has not helped, but I started reading and before I knew it I realized I am a OBSESSIVE LOVER.
But a passive one. Not into hurting anyone, I was hurting myself with worry, and hoping, not wanting to give up what love I had, not hardly sleeping only constant worrying if she would ever come back.
The book was pretty good during the main reading but I got boored and skipped to the main stuff as to getting help, whick is about 2/3rds on back in the book.
I am now making a log, which is what she said to do of 6 things every time you think of that person write it all down. Take it to a counselor if you have one for help.
The part about talking to a chair as if you are in it, is a good thing and I have started using that process also. I think that is a good idea.
The book was informative and I learned who I was, and going to a Counselor is also important. BTW: Take a tape recorder and record your sesson.
I got the book at the library after reading off the internet about it, then I found her book. Got it at a good price used. Will keep around if needing it again. WISHED there was a CD or TAPE about this process to heal. Haven't found one yet. We all will get better, there is no ONE PERSON for you or a SOUL MATE , there are many out there, this I know because after you get over the Obsessive Love you have for this person, you will find someone else and the person you WERE Obsessive over will be a momory. I have been there before. GOOD LUCK AND I KNOW YOU WILL HEAL.
Please Let me know some way how your doing.

2 comments about The CASANOVA COMPLEX.
- This is one of the most profound books I've ever read. For women who find themselves abruptly abandoned by a man and can't understand why, this book will certainly help them understand this sad sickness in men who as children were never loved by their parents in a healthy way and who compensate as adults by seducing, then dumping the women with whom they form relationships.
This book is a classic and should be read by all women who find themselves attracted to bad boys, boy toys, pretty boys, womanizers and men who cannot express their true feelings ...or simply are too numb to feel anything at all except confusion and/or hatred for women.
Thank you Peter Trachtenberg.
Somebody please reprint this book!
- Peter Trachtenberg's book is much more than a garden variety self-help book. Trachtenberg is a gifted writer (and recovering sex addict) who takes an honest and perceptive look at "sex addiction"--an addiction in which sex becomes compulsive and involves compulsive fantasy and behaviors such as repeated conquests and affairs or high risk sex. These behaviors tend to be emotionally destructive for both the addict and his/her partner. I bought the book because I knew something was wrong in my relationship. The man who said he wanted to marry me compusively flirted with women, cruised for women at parties, and was obsessed-- "over the top" in his overall focus on sexuality. He said he had been obsessed since he was quite young and that his relationships with women often involved betrayals. Initially, he saw himself as a red-blooded American male who liked women. But Trachtenberg's book revealed the psychological forces that drive a whole dimension of compulsive seductive behaviors involving numerous affairs and betrayals: sexual binges that lead to self-loathing which, in turn, leads to more binges to "medicate" the pain of self-hatred and shame. Trachtenberg has done his homework, and for those interested in the psychology of addiction, he includes a section on narcisism and the inner pain that fuels addiction. Trachtenberg also talks about the way out of sexual addiction and the healing path he has taken. An excellent book that should be reprinted. Thank you Peter Trachtenberg for writing this illuminating book!

3 comments about Barefoot Doctor's Handbook for Modern Lovers: A Spiritual Guide to Truly Amazing Love and Sex.
- This is a book that you don't read every day. Is straight foward, tells you "How it is" and with an exquisite sense of humor takes you to understand and digest you sexual spirit. If you are in business to increase your sex I.Q. , learn a few tricks and tips this is the one for you. Good Luck!
- Stephen Russel did a great job of reaching out to all audiences in this book. He made it known that the book was primarily for the "Modern Lover", Male-Female "relationships." Though, homosexuals and elderly lovers may find much of the material useful. The rather frequent vulgar language may be offensive to some yet humorous to others.
The book is based on Taoism, and even if you are not a Tao believer, this book will prove its worth. It's constant use of Tao terminology makes sense. However, the information doesn't have to be absorbed and utilized in a Tao believer's fashion. If the reader simply keeps and open mind about things, then this book will be enjoyed. It is hilarious, very informative and especially useful.
- Stephen Russel (aka the Barefoot Doctor) is easily the funniest, most pleasent tour guide down the path of Taoism you will find, and he delivers some great practicle advice here with a Taiost twist.
If you want stuck up snobbery and Puritain aditude, look elsewhere. Vague bland advise? Away with you! Straight forward talk with a dash of humour, a pinch of irony, and a healthy chunck of wonder at life in general and sex specificaly? Here is the book.

1 comments about 25 Stupid Mistakes Couples Make.
- I really enjoy this book because it covers a lot of really important factors to think about in a relationship.
My only problem is that the author doesn't necessarily go into quite enough detail at times. I feel like he makes statements about actions that we do in a relationship without giving enough specificity, without saying what to do in certain situations or what to do instead of something else.
All in all it's a great list of issues in relationships but I don't think it's enough. It's good to become aware of these things but I think you have to take everything with a grain of salt as it applies to your particular situation. For example, the first problem in particular, don't move in with your partner. I felt like he was too all or nothing. It's not that simple, what about mitigating factors? He says if you're considering living with your partner, reconsider. I just feel like he doesn't explain his position, give alternatives to the mistake or solutions. What should we do instead? What if you're younger or older? He says people who live together have a higher rate of drug and alcohol use, but, what if you know you and your partner won't go down that road?
My point: think about these issues but supplement the information with other books, articles, research.
I would highly recommend Communication Miracles for Couples: Easy and Effective Tools to Create More Love and Less Conflict, it's a wonderfully helpful book, incredibly easy to read and understand and super easy to apply to your life!

- the book is the best i have ever read.it is heart breaking that children have to go through this.lou is a strong person to come through this and be a survior. He is a person to look up to.Anyone can turn their lives around and reading this book can help do it.you must read this book.
-
I just finished reading a "A Father's Abuse - A Doctor's Love.
I was drawn in by the sad eyes of the young boy making his First
Holy Communion on the cover. I was spellbound and could not put
the book down. I am glad Lou finally found himself and that behind
the tough facade of his family - LOVE. Its nice to know their are
people like Dr. Shoemaker willing to help others in need. I will
encourage others to read this book. Thank you for sharing Lou.

- Louis Panesi's book is a realistic account of what it is like growing up in an emotionally abusive family. Louis' description of the therapeutic process he experienced is very realistic also. I hope that individuals who are survivors of abuse find this book and are inspired to begin their recovery with the help of a psychotherapist.
Jill Eilenberger LCSW, LMFT
- This book will definitely contribute favorably to the realization and possible solution to one who is afflicted with a low self-esteem since the author reveals his own true experience with his fathers mental abuse
and his attempt to resolve the injuries that followed. Although I personally have never been troubled with low self esteem, I being a salesman, come in contact daily with others whose lives have been so affected. I feel certain that any person suffering from this disorder, will find the book helpful because of its authenticity and detailed de-
scription of serious events in the author's life. Undoubtedly, a similar
victim of low self esteem will relate to his or her experience with that
of the authors, and be perhaps enlightened and strengthened. He may come out of his shell early enough to seek help thus sparing himself of the inevitable depression that follows. This book is an aid to combating and making known the early misuse of parental control. Without the abuse the author could have lived a perfectly normal life, extremely successful in the endeavor that he had chosen. The reading of the book can likely alert the reader to become more aware of the abuse and take means to prevent its continuation. Perhaps as Barney Fife of the Andy Griffith Show would correctly say. "Nip it in the bud"
- This is a quick read yet remarkable and heart wrenching story! Mr. Panesi's story touched my heart. It is so sad that he could never rid himself of the abuse that his father inflicted upon him. I know that it took a lot of strength and courage for him to share his story but am sure it will benefit him as he continues his therapy and will hopefully benefit others who may be in a similar situation. I had the wonderful opportunity to speak to Mr. Panesi about his story via telephone and he is truly an amazing person.
