  1. This is a thoughtful and provocative book about mothering daughters. A must read for every woman with a teen age or pre-teen daughter, it lends insight into womanhood as well as the adolescent female experience and does this with a sense of humor and great warmth.

  2. I recommend this book to any parent who has a teenage daughter. It's especially valuable to me as a father because it gives me the viewpoint of the mother and presents the side of the daughter. If you have a close relationship to a teenage girl and aren't one, don't pass up this book.

  3. Having once been a teenage girl, and now the mother of a little girl, I know that daughters strive deeply for their parents' approval. Everything a parent says to their daughter will affect her in one way or another. The book, "You Don't Have to Say I'm Pretty, You're My Mother," by Stephanie Pierson and Phyllis Cohen, CSW, describes for both parents how their responses directly affect their daughter's self and body image.

Some may think that the mother is the only one who has the job of making sure her daughter feels good about who she is and how she looks. After reading this book you'll understand that the father shares this responsibility. Every action, every reaction, and every spoken word parents say to their daughter, makes her who she is. Daughters seek approval from both parents, not just their mother.

Readers will learn what to say, what not to say, and how to say it. In addition, the books lists and discusses the potential problems that could arise during a daughter's teenage years.

MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book -- it's an easy way for parents to learn how to help their daughters develop a positive self and body image. What a wonderful resource for parents of daughters!

  1. If you are preparing for marriage, or if you are already married, buy this book and read it! It will do wonders for your marriage. Let me be clear, though: my wife and I are traditionalist, orthodox Catholics, and we do not believe in artificial birth control, premarital sex, extramarital sex, oral sex to completion (we are OK with it as foreplay, if that's what the couple wants to do), solo masturbation, fantasizing about other partners, or sodomy. Sorry if you have a problem with that. However, in the context of a true Christian marriage, Dr. Stanway's book is still invaluable. We have found it very helpful in practicing the art of seduction within marriage (yes, you need to do this!), the rich and varied world of foreplay, respect for your partner, and even though the book doesn't expressly bring this out, giving thanks to God for the awesome gift of sex. And, yes, there are pictures, but they are drawings of an attractive stylized couple, not photographs of "real people", which we would find objectionable. Just as bluntly as I can put it, if you and your partner are sexually inexperienced (both my wife and I were virgins on our wedding night), you're going to need "something to go by". The pictures do a nice job of this and are alone worth the price of the book. And just as an aside, a good sex life within marriage needs lubrication. Many different brands are available; try several until you find the one(s) you like. Don't deny yourself this vital part of a healthy sex life. My wife and I have kept Dr. Stanway's book close at hand throughout our marriage (13 years now!) and so should you.

  1. I FOUND THIS BOOK SHOWED ME A NEW PATH IN WHICH TO PURSUE GETTING A DATE WITH THE HIGHLY SOUGHT ALPHA MALE. EASY PRACTICAL ADVICE THAT WORKED WITHIN 3 DAYS. I'M TELLING ALL MY GIRLS TO GET THIS BOOK. SMART, FUN AND HOT ADVICE FOR CHOOSING AND HOPEFULLY KEEPING THE RIGHT MATE!

  2. Here's a book every woman should read! While the best-selling guys' book tells how to get women in bed and dump them, this book shows women how to avoid these bad-news guys and find a man who will be a great husband, father, and life-long companion. It's fascinating to see what men have to say about what they want in a wife -- and it's not hard to follow the authors advice and start looking for the right kind of guy. Wish I'd had this book years ago!

  1. Millner & Chiles once again collaborate their opinions on sex & relationships. After reading this book,I'm thinking "do I have to do all of these things to achieve my sexual satisfaction"? I don't know about everyone else, but I wouldn't go word for word for what they say.I have to disagree with Ms.Millner's ideas for what a man must do to please a woman, especially about "doing it"in certain public places.Mr.Chiles views are that it's almost mandatory for a couple to be "getting it on"everyday for as much as possible.Overall it's a very entertaining book that all couples & single people like myself should read.It makes for great debating.

  2. My husband and I both read the book. I thought that it made a lot of valid assertions, however, I am not as aggressive or progressive, I guess as many of the women who were interviewed. My husband loved the book. So, I intend to read it again. I do think it was valuable, and worth the money, but I wish it had spent more time on people who are in committed relationships...perhaps this is the NEXT book topic!

  3. Denene Millner, and her husband Nick Chiles gives us their opinion on todays' relationship. I would have liked the book more I think if i was more out there, like the situations in the book

  1. I didn't think "Dare TO Connect" was quite as good as Susan Jeffers' book "Feel the Fear". But she gave me many ideas to think about in communicating with others. The main idea of the book is to understand yourself and reach out to others. It is also a spiritual book about our Higher Self. It has given me a better understanding of how to treat others as part of God's plan. We are all here for each other.

  2. This is one of the most important books I have ever read, and I know it has been so for many of my friends. I say this because I started a weekly discussion group centered around this book and many people would tell me how profoundly grateful they were to be exposed to the concepts here.

I don't think it's fair to try to compare this book to her earlier "Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway" because that book is about overcoming fears that inhibit you, and this one is about new attitudes to make your social life flourish. There are a few parallels, but the books only compliment eachother.

The most important concept here for me was that of "everbody training" - the idea that social situations become more rewarding and less stressful if, instead of trying to create external successes, you focus on creating positive situations for everyone around you. Instead of pressuring yourself to get a woman's phone number at a party (getting something for yourself), make a point of helping her to have a good time there, even if it isn't with you (giving to the community). The neat thing about this is that it becomes easier to make contact with new people AND makes you a more desirable friend at the same time.

The author does NOT present gimmicks or strategies that only work for confident people in unusual situations: it ALL applies to everyone and helps build your confidence about yourself and your abilities in social situations. One caution: don't think you can read this book and suddenly go from being a shy nerd to a confident person with dozens of friends overnight! It takes time, practice and may need to be integrated into one's self-improvement efforts.

  1. While the authors say this book is geared toward baby-boomers, as a 31 year old recently single woman, I still found it incredibly helpful. It takes the drama out of break-ups, and is a great reminder that life is about more than one's romantic partner. Very educational and comforting!

  1. Terra Wolfe has written the definitive book on the subject of soul mates. You need look no further. This wonderful book is for the young and old alike, for anyone who has ever pondered the spiritual and soul connections we have with those in our lives, be they children, parents, spouses or lovers. In an elegant and succint way, she will guide you to a greater understanding of yourself and those who share this dance of life with you. She demystifies the mystery, and she does so with heart, clarity, respect, intelligence and a great deal of knowledge and experience. If you have only just begun to explore this mystery, this is the guide you need. It will enrich you. Even if you are learned on this subject, this book will enrich you, for it is unique, a wonderful refresher course and more. Share this book with anyone you care for. It is a gift they won't forget. She is a superb and gifted author, a wonderful soul herself. Everyone would benefit from reading this book. No bookshelf she be without it.

  2. The first part of the book is excellent at describing the soul mate phenomena. This includes the various forms and helps provide an understanding on why people come into your life for whom there is an unmistakable connection beyond the apparent. My problem with the book is that at this point it is as if the publisher needed more pages to fill the book. The sections on finding and attracting a soul mate seem totally counter to the very idea that soul mates enter you life when they are destined to do so. The section on attracting your soul mate belongs on soulmates.com or some personals site. When the book digressed into ranting about how super models are overly thin and not the way "real" women look I found myself wondering if I dozed off and then picked up another book. What this is doing in there I have no idea. The first half gets 4 stars, the second zero. A caveat, several trusted friends have found this book to be very beneficial. I just cannot say the same.

  1. An an engaged woman who will be married in a few months, I found this book quite insightful. It was informative in a Christian way that made me feel educated without feeling embarrassed. I wish it had discussed the new Sympto-Thermal method of Natural Family Planning -- this is not the old, outdated rhythm method that they describe. My fiance and I recently completed a very professionally done training seminar for the Sympt-Thermal Method of NFP (conducted by the volunteer organization called the Couple to Couple League). It's a shame that we were the only Protestants in the class. If the LaHayes and other Christians knew that this method of NFP is 99% effective and that there are very few abstinent days due to its accuracy, we would have more bible Christians practicing this method. I don't understand how the LaHayes, who are pro-life, can tell couples that the Pill is the best birth control. It is now a medically established fact that the Pill causes micro abortions when it fails to prevent ovulation. Also, I have friends who have suffered severe side effects from taking the Pill, such as blood pressure abnormalities. I feel that the LaHayes should recommend the new NFP over the unethical Pill. Otherwise, I felt the book was worth buying. Thank you.

  2. An excellent informative book with very clear and concise information which also embraces humour and personal experiences. The LaHaye's are both extremely frank in their approach to writing and are not scared to discuss issues which most Christian literature skirts around. I really wish we had been given this book to read prior to marriage, it would have prevented the stumbling around in the dark that inevitably occurs when you get married. This book will definitely be required literature for my children prior to marriage. I would recommend it to all couples - prior to marriage, newly weds and "experienced" couples - there is a lot to be learnt in these pages at what ever stage you are at.

  3. Overall, an 'OK' read, but teaches human sexuality as though his audience was a grade-six sex education class as rather than mature-minded adults. This book is extremely simplistic and vague, and tends to lean towards a more dellusional depiction of human sexuality, often confining it to the contexts of outmodded biblical principles and male-dominated patriarchy. Lacking modern approach and intimate sensuality, I would sincerely hope that this book is not a reflection of poor Tim's seemingly mechanical sex life!! I would not recommend this book unless you are totally ignorant and clueless about what sex is all about. I would suggest looking elsewhere for a more relevant guide to sexual intimacy.

  4. This book is the best and most practicle source of sex education I have read. It would be a great help to any married couple.
