  1. I can't believe I am the first one to review this book! After struggling with addictions of all sorts for years (including alcohol, drugs, sex, and love addiction), I finally determined why I kept sabotaging my relationships with women. My compulsive search for something to help me feel less pain came from my childhood, and this book was the stepping stone that helped me see that there was hope to overcome this tricky addiction, seek help, and learn to love myself and others with authenticity.

I highly recommend this book to any alcoholic, chemically dependent or sexually addicted person. There is hope for a relationship without painful addictive behaviors, and this book will help you find that hope!

  2. Not only discusses the symptoms, but also walks you through some steps to stop it, and to work through it. A wonderful book. I keep it on my bedside and consult it frequently even though I have read it cover to cover.

  3. I initially bought this book because I wondered if being in love was just an addiction. But I learned so much more than that. This book should be helpful for practically everyone. It talks about how our love relationships are related to unmet needs from childhood. It described my parents relationship almost exactly and I see how it affected me. It was amazing that anyone knew all this stuff.

  4. simple, concise book that takes you through the subject in an interesting way.

    I recommend it

  5. Well written, explains the reasons behind the toxic codependent dynamics, how to recognise them, and how to heal. A MUST HAVE!

1 comments about THE THREE SPIRITS: Applications of Huna to Health, Prosperity, and Personal Growth.
  1. I have often been intrigued by the power of the mind. In particular, I notice the "coincidences" in life, my ability to make connections with people, and my inner conversations. This book gives a foundation to all of these and has given me a much better understanding about the workings of my mind and how the three selves control those workings. I have begun to apply some of the exercises in the book and find that I am doing a much better job of letting the middle and lower selves handle their tasks. It is obvious the author is an educator because the material is clearly presented to the reader, examples and exercises are given, and then the expected results are described. I found the discussions of Thought Field Therapy and Emotional Freedom Techniques to be enlightening. I strongly recommend this book.

3 comments about The Book of Runes, 25th Anniversary Edition.
  1. This is a good beginner's book, but doesn't give the insight necessary to truely read the runes successfully. He tells you brief, mediocre meanings of the runes. I must say though, that he does welcome you to runes. I didn't know how the runes worked, but with his brief not so deep meanings, I was able to start. If you want a book to learn the basics this is the best book, but if you're looking for a book for more advanced people, you better keep scrolling

  2. This has got to be one of the most worthless rune books ever printed. If you really want to study the runes get Runelore by Edred Thorson or Northern Mysteries by Freya Aswin.

  3. I have used the I Ching for years as my "oracle of choice". Recently a relative introduced me to The Book of Runes (3RD Edition) along with a set of runes made from abalone. I enjoyed reading the book and agreed with Mr. Blum's view of the I Ching. I was interested in what he said about using the I Ching to validate a Rune reading. I tried this and found that he was correct (at least in relation to my own experience). Since I am of Norwegian decent I also appreciated the story of how the runes were discovered (by Odin the Norse god). The story brought back childhood memories of Norwegian relatives.

2 comments about Marianne Williamson on Love.
  1. This is classic Marianne. In this particular topic, she focuses on the reality of love in our lives and expands our awareness of loving relations. She is down to earth with practical examples given in applying these ideas to our own lives. Everyone can identify with this topic and Marianne helps the listener refine ones own blocks to love. Marianne's personal style reflects the genuineness of her message and the connectedness we all share in the journey of life. Excellent content, this is an important resource for ACIM students or anyone wishing to pursue more authentic relationships.

  2. Marrianne Williamson's work is both real and honest. Rather than couch things in a concepts that are alien or extremely religious, she talks to you about the realities of existing. Of how things will not always be easy, about how you will lose your way, and honestly how to see people clearly. Growth is messy, it's not neat, maturity is not easy, nor is spirtiuality delicate work, but with assistance from a tape like this you can see yourself clearly and how to bridge yourself from concept to human to spiritual being.

  1. Everyone will benefit from this book. Steve Rizzo shows the reader how to laugh off fear, find humor in change and take a stressful situation and make it easier to deal with. This book would be especially beneficial to people who need to overcome some obstacle in their lives. Steve Rizzo shows us how to use humor to help with the most serious of topics. I especially like the personal story style of the book. It really helps the reader find a connection between the author's life and their own. Like I said in my title, Now I want to become a humor being!

  2. This book has changed my life as well as everyone's that I have recommended it to. After reading Steve's advice, I now strive not to take life's little setbacks so seriously and to find the humor in difficult situations. I loved the book so much that I purchased Steve's PBS video and loved it even more! Now whenever I'm stuck in traffic I remember Steve's advice to "make it funny" instead of stressing out. I highly recommend both the book and the video to everyone who wants to learn a new approach to dealing with life's setbacks and irritations--large or small.

5 comments about The Authentic Heart : An Eightfold Path to Midlife Love.
  1. I have been blessed to have been able to call the author friend for nearly 30 years. The depth of his knowledge and insight has been a source of inspiration and comfort to me on untold occasions. Now he has distilled and laid to paper a life's work of study so that anyone who chooses to can share in his heartfelt wisdom, as I and his many friends have done throughout the years. What a joy it was for me to read this book. Those who are seeking to improve their life and relationships will find many workable answers here. What are the key ingredients of love? Of trust? What are the five blocks to effective communication? And how can we be emotionally honest with others in a gentle way? Dr. Amodeo explains in vivid prose. But even those who are not seeking to improve their life and relationships, even those who read for the satisfaction of affirming their own good fortune in love, may be surprised to find the answers to questions they haven't yet thought to ask. What a wonderful book! Thank you Dr. Amodeo. Thank you, my friend John.

  2. As more of us boomers reach middle age, we reflect on the love relations we have and those we've left behind, and I've found in myself and friends that there's a yearning for authentic love, a longing to deepen in oneself and also connect intimately with one's wife or lover, family and friends. Yet, for many of us the baggage of persistent habits of thought and behavior, including our young love romantic idealism, distances us from that which we most want. John Amodeo with great clarity and sensitivity speaks from the heart in his new book, The Authentic Heart : An Eightfold Path to Midlife Love, talks to us as a wise friend, and takes us on a mindful journey along an "eightfold path", which reveals workable, livable principles about how to enjoy an authentic life in relationship. What a relief it is to know that such a book has been written and serves us all as a friendly handbook for our relational journey. I highly recommend you include John Amodeo's book in your library of most valued references. Just be sure to read it first! For those of us that have struggled with betrayal in relationship, I also want to mention John's previous work, Love and Betrayal, which intelligently and compassionately sheds light on that important subject.

  3. I have long been an admirer of John Amodeo's work. A long-time therapist and counselor, he understand the dynamics of intimate relationships as well as anyone I know. In addition, he is an excellent writer--clear, thoughtful, probing. This book is timely. The boomer generation, especially, with its history of shattered relationship, broken dreams, and burned-out illusions, will benefit from its careful and thorough laying out of the eightfold path to authentic love. Amodeo shows us that real love, which means a deep spiritual and emotional connection, true friendship, and a healthy measure of chemistry and romance, is possible. It seems to me that this book is an indispensable guide for anyone seeking such a union.

  4. If there is ever a Pulitzer Prize for a book about love, "The Authentic Heart" should win hands down. I have great admiration for John Amodeo's gentle yet powerful prose and lively writing style. I am inspired beyond words how often and beautifully he illuminates by example the significance of risking vulnerability and emotional honesty to achieve emotional intimacy in relationships. There is a genuine, moving wisdom in this book that speaks to people of all ages, not just those approaching or in mid-life.

  5. This book explains that healthy intimate relationships aren't about the romantic notions portrayed by the media or in the fairytales we all read as children, but rather about knowing ourselves, showing up, being authentic, and speaking our truth in a caring yet honest way. Authentic Heart provides a refreshingly realistic take on mature relationships, and is written in a very clear and easily digestible manner. You definitely don't need to be familiar with Buddhist philosophy to get a lot out of this book, but if you are, you'll likely resonate with much of the perspective here. I loved this book so much that I bought a second copy to pass around to all my friends!

  1. I am a HUGE Wayne Dyer fan, and this is one of my favorite and most helpful of all this incredible man's series. I believe that he was truly given to us by God. I know that he has given me the tools to save my life. He has taught me that there is no place for negativity in my (or anyone's) life. He speaks in plain english, no mumbo jumbo, that transcends all religions and cultures. I find his practical advice a life saver, for me anyway. I do recommend that you investigate, and read or listen to his publications relatively in order. As he stresses, "the master, or teacher will come, when the student is ready". Therefore, it is easier and more cogent to progress along with Dr. Dyer's spiritual journey. Thank you and God Bless You Dr Dyer! I truly cannot thank you enough, ever.

5 comments about The Caterpillar That Roared: Awakening the Lion Within.
  1. The reason this book is hitting everyone at just the right time is that it is written in parables allowing each of us to apply the insights to our own circumstances. Whether you are changing jobs, locations, partners or downsizing this book is for you. Take time to read it slowly and reflect on each message. Read a chapter a day or a chapter a week allowing plenty of time for reflection and application of each treasure of information. It is well worth it. It is a book that you will read more than once during your transitional journey. Thanks for helping us ROAR into our next stage of life.

  2. The Caterpillar That Roared is an authentic parable that sincerely impacts all ages in the community of heart. Children will be touched in the innocense of the story and baby boomers in the wisdom of the words. I have given the book to my teen-age sons as I encourage them in their journeys hence, ensuring their lives follow the passion that gives them joy. I have given it to my fifty, sixty and nearing seventy year old siblings as they begin to assess their legacy, their impact, and their lives as they close in on retirement. It is a sweet, spirited parable that speaks to us all and should become a permanent fixture in our minds and hearts. It is a read worth living!

  3. This book resonated with both the child and the adult in me. While I super enjoyed the well-written adventurous and page-turning drama, the adult in me is inspired to find out how my own life lessons can teach me to use my wisdom to mentor and benefit others.... Uplifting!

  4. Everyone contemplates being successful and self-fulfilling in their lives, but there are many who never master their own realities, or pursue their real zest for life. Often times, it is because we become limited and weak in our pursuits. Through this book we are allowed to experience a personal transformation, helping us realize that it is only by serving others that we are able to discover the many ways to overcome our own struggles in life. Living a life that is full and rewarding is an attainable possibility. This is truly an uplifting and inspirational story that is guaranted to motivate and bring pleasure to everyone who reads it. Through parables, it is easy to instill the values our children will be able to take with them at a young age and beyond. My only regret is that this book was not written sooner!

  5. This book is amazing and gratifying! It opened my eyes to the real responsibilites and obligations we have to ourselves and to each other. The lessons are clear-cut. Believing in yourself, when others may not necessarily, and having the resolution and strength to follow through with your own convictions. It is also the understanding that the endeavor to collect material wealth and retiring in luxury isn't always the most satisfying, but a keen awareness of what you do for others is where the quest for true happiness lies. This is a funny, humorous, and clever way of examining the positive affects we can instill in our lives and the resolution to finding true fulfillment.

1 comments about Intuition @ Work: & at Home and at Play.
  1. If I correctly understand Wanless' core ideas in this book, intuition is always "@ work." The challenge is to access it, nourish it, and be guided by it...usually in combination with one or more other resources such as emotional intelligence which Daniel Goleman discusses so brilliantly in Emotional Intelligence, Working With Emotional Intelligence, and most recently published Primal Leadership, co-authored with Annie McKee and Richard E. Boyatzis.

How to describe Wanless' book? First of all, extensive research (his and others') has convinced him that intuition may well be the single most important, and potentially the most valuable, of all resources available to human beings as they struggle to understand themselves and the world in which they live and work. For most of us, we prefer to rely on our powers of reasoning, our personal experiences, and the judgment of others to make decisions, to assign value, and to select goals to pursue. As a result, we can sometimes deny or ignore what Wanless characterizes as a "life force" within each of us and thereby forfeit "extraordinary, perhaps even revolutionary, ways of comprehending ourselves." I am reminded of the key point Ernest Becker makes in Denial of Death: Although no one can deny physical death, there is another death which we can deny. That is the death which occurs when we become wholly preoccupied with fulfilling others' expectations of us. Wanless asserts (and I agree) that trusting one's intuition can help us to identify and then fulfill what we expect of ourselves.

This book also provides a wealth of carefully selected quotations from various sources which are strategically placed within chapters which examine the potential "rewards" of intuition; what Wanless calls "the intuitive imperative"; intuitive decision-making, action, intention, vision, innovation, communication, fitness, and energy; and finally, "The Intuitive Future Life: A New Way of Being." Obviously, the purpose of including the quotations is to reassure the reader that, for many of the most thoughtful and influential persons, intuition is given great value. Among all the hundreds of quotations, my personal favorites include:

"There is something within you that knows more than you know." (Rochelle Myers)

"If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive." (Audre Lorde)

"A great many think they are thinking, when they are merely rearranging their prejudices." (William James)

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are." (Anais Nin)

"I shut my eyes in order to see." (Paul Gauguin)

This is a book which increases in value each time it is re-read. Although it has direct and practical relevance to the workplace, it can also help its reader (if receptive) to use the power of intuition to guide, nourish, and enrich her or his personal life. Wanless includes several hundred specific suggestions, drills, insights, and reassurances which -- collectively -- reveal and inform the potential power of intuition. The adjective "potential" is crucial to realizing the responsibility each person must assume. Wanless seems absolutely convinced that each and every reader can fulfill what is for most of us a latent and under-developed but nonetheless immensely promising source of wisdom and (yes) strength.
