5 comments about A Master Class in Gremlin-Taming(R): The Absolutely Indispensable Next Step for Freeing Yourself from the Monster of the Mind.
- As a teacher and collegiate athletic coach I found "A Master Class in Gremlin Taming" to be extremely beneficial. Carson's Gremlin Taming method helps me be aware of the barriers I create that limit my potential. By being aware of my own blocks, I am able to help my students and athletes notice theirs as well. We can both then move toward unleashing our fullest potential.
While mastering Gremlin Taming is a life-long pursuit, I notice that the Method is easily applicable. It is for this reason I have given "A Master Class" and "Taming Your Gremlin" to All American athletes and Honor students. Often the difference between being good and being great is in their mentality.
I strongly suggest "A Master Class" and "Taming Your Gremlin" to any teacher or coach who wishes to help their students or athletes excel.
- Richard Carson's presentation of his gremlin-taming process is so digestible and good natured. It is grounded in the real world. I recognize bits of myself and others in the examples. And I think that is the key to the value of the book. Each chapter is linked to the others yet stands alone as a tool for finding your own way of enjoying your own life. In fact, I believe this might just introduce you to your very own self!
I can honestly say that I can't think of anyone I would not recommend this book to. It's a good read, a toolbox full of very real aids to finding clarity for yourself and it's often funny. And the illustrations are great!
- A Master Class In Gremlin-Training by Rick Carson revisits a complex subject in imaginative and simple language. As in his prior books, Carson outlines the basics of pleasure and explaina in unique, yet common sense, language a method of getting out of our own way. In his latest work he offers us the opportunity to increase the pleasure in our lives by spending more time living and less time thinking about our lives by taming our gremlin. The gremlin in our mind is the one who is a master at using our "fears, regrets, or self-limiting concepts" to create scenarios that exacerbate our vulnerabilities. The book is well written. An example is the following explanation of what the gremlin can do: "Untamed, he will destroy your health, foul up your relationships, dampen your creativity, hamper your productivity, send you tumbling into low-down funks, and wind you up into fits of panic." The book has an important message and lesson for anyone who wants to understand and minimize the worries that plague them and to successfully pursue a pleasurable and active life
- Rick Carson has written a warm and personal book. He writes from an experiential base; he shares his experiences while encouraging and challenging the reader to utilize this method and evaluate theirs.. As a bonus, the reader will be charmed and tickled as I was by his humor and anecdotes. All the while, the method allows you to shine the light of awareness on the toxic messages inhibiting and limiting us all. By the books conclusion, I felt as if I were parting company with a friend as wwell as a master therapist. Jay Karant, Evanston, Illinois
- Received book on time and it was in new condition as described. Thank you.

5 comments about Making the Brain Body Connection: A Playful Guide to Releasing Mental, Physical & Emotional Blocks to Success.
- An interesting book, containg a lot of ideas for exercises to helpthe brain make those vital connections that occassionally get missed out in early childhood. If your not into exercises, then just reading the book is also interesting, and has helped us to understand how the brain develops in those important early years. It gives added motivation for ensuring your children are physically active and learn to use their hands and feet to improve co-ordination so important for later years. Whether you can really change the characteristics of a baby to make an improvement I don't know, but theres nothing to lose by reading it. My only regret is that I don't seem to have enough time to read it regularly at the moment, but hopefully I will soon.
- This is the book I have been looking for for a long time. We had private BrainGym classes with a BrainGym instructor to help my son's social skills and attention. It worked fine. But it is just too expensive($85/hour). What she did to my son is just what the book describes about ten step change process. In brainGym it is called repatterning/balance. It is very powerful. I would like to learn. So I can do it for my son. But none of BrainGym books give you complete description/steps to do it. Instead they recommend you to take their classes/workshop for several hundred dollars to learn it. It is like a secret. And you need to pay several hundred dollars in order to get the secret. This book is so good and it gives comprehensive instructions. And it tells the secret. And it is easy to follow and implement. I recommend everybody get it and try it. It will work on many areas.
- Based on reviews, I was so certain I would like this book, I ordered 2--one for a gift. I was hugely disappointed. The information would have fit in a pamphlet instead of spread out in an oversized book with big margins. I don't like being repeatedly told what I am about to read and then re-reading it at least two more times, sometimes on the same page, and it is riddled with unnecessary cutesy drawings. I have found very similar information free on the internet.
- I haven't even finished reading the book yet, but I would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking to create a greater sense of clarity and well-being in his or her life. I've been doing the "Quick Six" and have noticed an unmistakable increase in my enjoyment of life. I'm working on a dissertation and these exercises have helped me be able to better focus, concentrate, and stay on task--a true God-send since I lean toward ADD and my mind tends to jump all over the place. I've even taught the Quick Six to my Educational Psychology students to help them get through finals. Doing the exercises makes me feel kind of silly, but hey--they work!!
- This book offers great ways to overcome the impact of stress and emotions on the learning process. As an educator, I have come to believe that these issues are at the root of many "learning disabilities" that are becoming so common. I honestly hope that someday these sorts of activities will become an automatic part of our educational system from early childhood. This book is very practical, so I would recommend reading up on the neurobiology that underlies the connection between learning and emotion. If you do, you will be very convinced of the importance of these methods. Take a look at this, too! Power Brain Kids

5 comments about La Maestria del Amor: Una Guia Practica para el Arte de las Relaciones.
- Wish I had read this book when I was 15 years old. Even now it has been a blessing in my life! It is never too late to realize how special you are and to value the differences in each one of us. This book taught me so much about self value, self love, self esteem and consequently empowered me to create my own happiness and enjoy "la pura vida". I shared this blessing with my whole family by giving them a copy of this enlightening book.
- I enjoyed all the books put out by Don Miguel Ruiz, but this one was truly awesome. I've learned a lot about myself and the love God has for each and everyone of us. I've read this book three times and probably will read it again and again. I enjoyed his wisdom and insight.
- Es la mejor experiencia que he tenido para abrir mi corazon y dejar atras todos esos malos recuerdos y sentimientos que muchas veces sin querer o sin yo saber se oponian a mi felicidad.
- This is a great book , easy to read and it reall gets to the point fast.

2 comments about Help Yourself for Teens: Real-Life Advice for Real-Life Challenges.
- This is one of the best self help books I've read for any age (and I've read a lot). Author Dave Pelzer writes in a way that is so encouraging and real. He shares parts of his own story of abuse (which he writes about fully in his book titled "A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive"), how he overcame challenges to rise, and he gives great guidance--the common sense that's not always so common. This book is honest, from the heart with brains.
"Help Yourself for Teens" is set up in three parts: Dealing with Life (five chapters), Choices You Make Now and Where they Can Lead You in Your Future (three chapters), and Personal Resolve (two chapters). It's like a letter from a personal coach, one who's really on your side and let's you know that you matter. This book tells you "You can do it!" and gives you tools. It is a timeless gem. I recommend it whole heartedly to any one who wants encouragement and inspiration.
Laya Saul, author of the self help book for teens "You Don't Have to Learn Everything the Hard Way"
- I had purchased this book for my daughter. I have read all of his books and I am having her read them. She was inspired and greatful. It actually brought us closer together. I read this book myself it is wonderful and full of usefull and great advice.

5 comments about How to Be Like Walt: Capturing the Disney Magic Every Day of Your Life (How to Be Like).
- With my life-long admiration for the creative genius of Walt Disney, a book with the title "How To Be Like Walt" proved irresistible and became the first book I chose to read about Walt Disney. I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Whether you are a Walt Disney fan - or a person who wants to live boldly and creatively - or someone looking for inspiration in adversity... this book is going to impact you in a beautiful way.
Both biographical and inspirational, Pat Williams not only tells you the personal story of Walt Disney (which I found surprisingly full of difficulty and heart-wrenching moments) but weaves it into an engaging how-to manual on living your life fully and at full-throttle. Without getting preachy or fawning, the author (who's a pretty accomplished and unconventional guy himself) allows Walt's own infectious energy and joy to permeate the pages and the reader.
I truly believe there isn't a soul who won't be better for reading "How To Be Like Walt"...because who among us doesn't have dreams lying dormant, waiting to come true? Who among us doesn't need a little more magic in our everyday? If a man who came from so little could find the will to accomplish so much despite the resistance of so many...why not you?
- One of the best "self help" books I have ever read. The author uses Walt's real life experiences to drive his points home. I could not put this book down. You don't have to be a Disney fan to appreciate the messages in this book. And if you are a Disney fan, you will LOVE this book!!
- This is the best book about Walt; and on how to get that magic in your everyday life. I strongly suggest this book for everyone looking to improve their leadership and make magic everywhere they go.
- I could go on for pages and pages about what was so great about this book, "How to Be Like Walt". But in the end all I really mean is this book is a must read for anyone who has ever had dreams; wants to be astonished; loves anything Walt Disney created; and likes to read a book they won't want to put down. Part biography; part self-improvement; part fascinating facts. Lots of quotes by Walt Disney, his family, Disney imagineers that worked with Walt; and more. Learn where it all started. Read about the failures, the triumphs, and the Walt Disney philosophy EVEN after success hit - Walt called it: "plussing". TEN STARS!!! No make that 1928 STARS!!! "It all started with a Mouse."
- More than a sugary biography of Walt Disney, it's an insider's look into the magic of Disney. Or rather the creation of it. Hard work, paying your dues, never saying quit are all values that make the greats great, but they defined Walt Disney, and the proof is definitely in the pudding. It makes a perfect read if you're just looking for interesting non-fiction, but a great book for anyone looking to learn some core values on the way up!

2 comments about Zen and the Art of Happiness Deluxe Gift Edition.
- Chris Prentiss has a good way of communicating basic Zen concepts, on the practice of acceptance as the pathway to peace and happiness. Our culture encourages the "pursuit of happiness" as if it is a trophy to be caught and hung on the den wall over the fireplace. Happiness is an attitude we develop as we learn how to take life more as it is, not necessaril;y as we would have it. This guide empowers the reader to gently open up to new ways of seeing the world, ways that reduce the inner conflicts and, consequently, the outer conflicts as well.

Powerful--how to wake up and become aware, October 20, 2007
By Nigel J. Yorwerth "Publishing coach" (Bozeman, MT) - See all my reviews
This is a simple but powerful book that will change the way you look at life. Zen and the Art of Happiness takes happiness and consciousness to a whole new level. And now it is in a beautiful hardcover gift edition.
I am aware that this book has been compared to The Secret. There is a similarity in that they both teach the reader how to change his or her approach to life for the better but the similarity ends there. This is not a book about how to get more "stuff". I have read Zen and the Art of Happiness more than once and think that what it teaches is quite different and far more powerful than The Secret. The Secret, as a book, was essentially the transcript of the DVD. I preferred the DVD where a number of spokesmen described their powerful successes using the Law of Attraction. This will bring positive results for readers but the Zen book and its shrewd insights will take the reader to a brand new level of awareness that will bring them happiness. It is profound.
As D.T. Suzuki, the Japanese scholar and leading spokesman of Zen in mid-twentieth century America, said of Zen, "It merely enables us to wake up and become aware. It does not teach, it points". Zen and the Art of Happiness gives you simple but profound keys that will help you change your life. If you read it with an open heart it will truly help you find happiness.

4 comments about The Language of Letting Go Journal: A Meditation Book and Journal for Daily Reflection.
- I just started using this book as a recomendation made by one of my college teachers last semester. By reading the daily pages, and journaling a little bit about each topic for each day I have been able to make some very profound discoveries about myself. It is helping me to not only better understand myself, and my situation, but it is allowing me to become more tolerant of others, and is helping me to understand that I am allowed to feel some of the emotions in which we are conditioned to discount. I would recomend this book to not only people that feel they have issues they need to work out, but to anyone that is interested in learning a little more about themselves.
- I don't think we as human beings actually recognize the power of daily reading, meditation, and reflecting. Practicing these powerful principles allows us to remain mindful of the moment and reflect upon the deeper question in our lives. To devote ourself to a daily meditation and to journal on these quiet times is priceless and will certainly aid in the evolution of our soul. For me this practice has allowed an awakening to take place and opens my life up to all the opportunities that are available in this universe. Please give this practice a try! This book will help you in your journey of living and cultivating an active consciousness in your daily life.

- This book on co-dependency is a real eye opener for anyone who struggles in this area. It was a catalyst for me; I have let go of the responsibility of overseer of the lives of those within my family. It is an essential tool in order to gain freedom from co-dependency.
- I received the book very promptly and it is just what I need in my recovery.

5 comments about The Progress Paradox: How Life Gets Better While People Feel Worse.
- What is progress? Gregg Easterbrook looks at that question, showing that while we have "progressed" a great deal in a very short time; most of us are feeling worse about our lives. Read this book and recognize that happiness isn't found in luxury.
- The fact that so many endorse "The Progress Paradox" is nothing short of tragic. I am disappointed that the best reviewers got as far into the book as they did without noticing that the author spun many of the statistics to prove his point. He downplays the reality of poverty with false statistics. Recalling from memory, very close to the beginning of the book, Easterbrook states that the elderly no longer have to worry about being cared for. Perhaps he should have read Susan Sheehan's article in The New Yorker, "Not Poor Enough" which tells the true story about how the elderly are doing in this country. Has the author been to a state subsidized nursing home? He also strolled right over the problem of poverty with a completely false statistic about the number of children in the U.S. living under the poverty line. The list goes on and on. I was so impressed with the number of fallacies used to make his argument I started highlighting. My copy looks like Key West Christmas tree. How did the manuscript ever make it past the editor?
I think this book is written to help the 1% at the top of the pyramid feel better about themselves. Let them eat cake? Coincidently, the book was given to us by the wealthiest people we know who also happen to live in one of the premier independent living centers in the NE.
This book should be read as an example of fallacy in argument, and nothing more.
- This is an enjoyable read, one that I inevitably quoted after reading bits and pieces. Easterbrook's thesis just seems very apropos to contemporary American life today where the seemingly exponential societal progress is being questioned (even if just in those rare quiet moments) against the stress and work that so much stuff and accomplishment require.
It's packed with information: remarkable stuff that highlights how much development and change has happened in recent decades and that shows that we live in the best of times; sobering stuff about the pain and sadness that remain, and the horrible issues that remain to be addressed (or that have arisen because of societal change and development); insightful stuff that digs into why such things are happening and where the lack of happiness - for we're collectively feeling worse - are coming from.
In the end, gratitude, forgiveness, and remembering the greater good rise to the surface as corrective attitudes and behaviors. Easterbrook, a Christian, maintains that religion isn't necessary for these traits. Whether that's accurate or not, our society would be wise to listen to him.
- I was drawn to this book because of TMQ, what Mr. Easterbrook writes for ESPN. If you like that, then I would suggest you take a little bit, and enjoy a book that makes to think. Well thought out and written, with no bias for anything than the truth he describes. Enjoy.
- If you like statistics, you'll love this book. It's filled with them throughout. That being said, the book was published in 2004, and many of the assumptions made in the beginning of the book are not as valid today. Additionally, I personally don't believe all of the statistical analysis presented in the book. However, I cannot refute it, because I don't have the time to research all of it.
Mr. Easterbrook is big on Universal Health Care and wealth redistribution. He's also an advocate, in this book, for increased spending on US foreign aid. I'm not sure any of these three answers are really problem fixers. Furthermore, I don't think the US can afford at least 2 of these three ideas. Maybe we can after we fix the US economy and the falling value of the dollar.
The point of the book is that we are all better off than those before us, and I believe that this point is valid and true. However, the book, for me, ended up becoming more of a "self-help" reading as the pages went on. This book became less enjoyable the more pages I read.

5 comments about The Simple Abundance Companion.
- Guess I'll make it a unanimous (so far) 5 star rating for Sarah's latest. Like her other stand-alone books, it's filled with pithy humor, undeniable wisdom and gentle guidance--like having a "big sister" to guide you through the journey of self-discovery, sharing equal parts of joy and sorrow, pain and growth. Designed with the idea that each of the 12 chapters takes one month, to be completed in one year, I'd say that's about right. It isn't a workbook to rifle through, but one to relish, savor, ponder and ultimately digest. Thank you, Sarah, for yet another book to help in the excavation process of our Authentic Selves. The sharing of your talents has made us ALL the more richer.
- Simple can be a negative word in some contexts. However, simple is beautiful as Sarah writes about it. When I began my own simplicity movement 15 years ago I felt all alone and sometimes felt like caving in and jumping back on the materialistic bandwagon.
I discovered Sarah's books several years ago and I've been simplifying every part of my life eagerly and with glee. It is like I have lost 100 pounds. All those extra things I added onto my life since birth rarely gave me lasting happiness. I think a couple of other outstanding books in this vein are The Romantic's Guide by Michael Webb. It shows how you can be simple and yet "The World's Most Romantic Husband." Also, Simple Living is a good read.
- simply abundant with pearls of wisdom......simply learning how to breathe again...to reconnect with myself again...to retune to my inner child again....simply beautiful. Still haven't found a book though as good as 'The Journey:Where Seagulls Dare To Fly' (www.amazon.co.uk)...therefore 4 stars only!
- Would do business with this seller again. Fast shipping and product in great condition.
- So far, I have found this book to be a good tool for focusing on some positive ways to reconnect with my truly creative self. For those who aren't willing to take a few creative risks, this book might not be helpful, as it is full of suggestions for manifesting abundance on many levels. If you liked the book Simple Abundance, this might be a good follow-up to try.

5 comments about The Power of Self-Coaching: The Five Essential Steps to Creating the Life You Want.
- I didn't like the book at first. But that is characteristic of anyone seeing something in themselves that needs to be changed. After going through the book 3 times and using it as a practical guide I am remembering how to like myself again. My "what if's" don't have to rule my life.
- I have found many books and articles on this topic but this one stands alone. It is the refreshing way in which the problems are solved, not the symptoms. I was in a place I simply hated, and all aspects of my life were involved. I didn't know where to start, but knew something had to be done. They say the first step is the toughest, but buying this book made it easier. I refuse not let myself get to that place again. I have been taught how it happens and I am in control. If you truley want to make a change for the better TODAY, then start by buying this book. You will never get as much for so little!!
- It's spooky really. The more I read this book, it seems the more the author is "reading" me! I'm not yet finished, but can say without a doubt there's something for everyone here. The last part of the sub-title, "creating the life you want", pretty much sums it up.
- On the good side, this book is well-written, flows nicely from paragraph to paragraph, and is very easy to read. On the bad side, I simply didn't find anything deeply insightful like I was expecting. It is fairly simplistic book about developing a better relationship with yourself, and is probably best suited for someone who is starting out on this path. As someone who has done a bit of self-analysis and self-improvement over the years, I feel this book simply didn't offer anything new or have enough compelling content to earn a recommendation. If you are looking for something that is more meaty, I think there are better choices out there.
- I had about given up on feeling better. It was just not meant for me. So I got this CD set (honestly, who could stand reading?) and listened while I drove to work. Then I listened some more. The things Luciani pointed out were so obvious and so stark from what I had over-analyzed before, it made a difference in my life immediately. It's like lending someone your watch so they can tell you what time it is.
If you're read Dale Carnegie's 'How to Stop Worrying...' and agreed with it in principle but just couldn't make the ideas work (I had this problem), this book is very similar - with one exception. It helps you to see the self-sabotage going on inside you head. I see the two books as being very similar, but Self-Coaching gives you the ammo. It helps you recognize what's going on - when it's happening. And then it gives you the tools to combat it.
This CD is absolutely making a positive impact in my life. I continue to listen time to time to remember nuances or when I need a hand, but things are getting better. I keep working at the very simple ideas and that propels me on. I am glad I took the chance with this CD set. If you've about given up, I suggest you give it a shot.
