5 comments about Grandparents Rock: The Grandparenting Guide for the Rock-N-Roll Generation.
  1. Grandparents Rock is a delightfully, fun-filled book sure to be a great edition to any personal library! I purchased this book for my parents and grandparents not only to give them new & innovative ideas but to also help them reflect on the many great memories they have created with their grandchildren.

Pat Burns provides such a fresh outlook on being a grandparent in the 21st century - This book has everything from heart-warming stories to ideas that will keep your grandchildren coming back for more. Buy Grandparents Rock if you want to add some great and very powerful tools to your toolbox for being a rock'n Grandparent!

  2. Grandparents Rock is a great inspiration. It shows the challenges of todays Grandparents in dealing with geographical locations, and limited time to make connections.
It gave me ideas to use with my grandchildren and awareness of how much support grandparents need these days.

The various ways of demonstrating love make it practical as well as heart moving.

  3. Who would have thought that after performing in a rock & roll band all these years & now having kids that the two loves of my life would come together in book? Grandparents Rock uses the familiar favorites songs that I play for my kids integrated with fascinating stories from real life. The book gave me viewpoints and inspiration that I enjoyed & my kids loved. Rock on.

  4. Pat's own stories create the framework for baby boomer grandparents to remember the open mindedness, sense of adventure, fun and rebelliousness of their youth and breaking the current perception of what it is to be a grandparent. As a baby boomer myself hoping to be a grandparent soon, reading Pat's book makes me want to be a grandparent so much sooner! I can't wait to create incredible memories using these tips. Throughout the book are helpful reminders of `that was then and this is now.' This includes tips and stories of keeping up with the times with the newest means of communicating with your grandchildren--including email, IM, videomail, and texting. I also loved the recollections of grandparents of an earlier generation and how rich traditions such as story telling are passed down. I particularly enjoyed Pat's story about her grandmother who she described as a spellbinding story teller. Pat shares how she applied this art to how she communicated with her grandson to create a much deeper bond with him. She offers tips on building magical creative (story) adventures with your little loved ones. Thank you, Pat, for this treasure chest of imaginative ways to enrich this special relationship. . . and for modernizing grandparenting!

  5. I'm not a grandparent...I'm not even a parent. But after reading this book, enjoying every single page and story and feature, I have given it as a gift to many parents and grandparents. Finally I decided, as I do with a few special titles, to order a "stockpile" to hand a copy to parents and grandparents as I meet them, mostly strangers! They are SO delighted! I have really enjoyed reading this book myself. It is absolutely delightful, not to mention insightful. I have a tiny nephew, and this book has inspired me to interact with him as if he were my grandchild. (Hey, how about "Uncles Rock!") This book is a fantastic balance of true heartfelt stories from contributors, and tips on how to play with, educate and teach your grandchildren...also how to deal with the "inbetween person," your own child the parent! And if that weren't enough, there is a novel, nostalgic theme running throughout the book, which compares products and lifestyles from "back then" (slide rules, metal skates with keys) to "now" (computer phones, shoe skates with headlights)--complete with "then" and "now" pictures and authentic typestyles of the era. And to really test your memory, a disco crossword puzzle! This book is an absolute joy. I could write more, but it's Grandparents Week and I want to hand out the rest of my stockpile to every grandparent who deserves the "grand gift" of this book! The author obviously is one of those grandmothers who you can't wait to jump up and hug!

4 comments about Less Is More: An Anthology of Ancient & Modern Voices Raised in Praise of Simplicity.
  1. great and wonderful........reverse the title and it still comes out the same.

  2. 'Less is More' is a collection of quotes and very short essays from a multitude of sources on the value of simplicity. Some of those quoted lived and wrote many centuries ago, while others are from the near present, and of course, there are many in between. Some of the more recognizable people quoted include Ghandi, Thomas Hobbes, Socrates, Thoreau, Shakespeare, St. Francis, Pascal, Adam Smith, Benjamin Franklin, John Kenneth Galbraith, Muhammad, Arthur Miller, and H.G. Wells. Some of the sources used are the Bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, the Dhammapada, and the Tao Te Ching.

The quotes are grouped according to the various facets of this subject, although some of them are more obviously related to living simply than others. Most of the quotes range from a few sentences to a paragraph or two. The excerpt from the first chapter is not representative of the overall book. I have owned an earlier edition of this book for many years and continue to find it inspiring. I only wish that there were a hardcover edition available as my paperback copy is becoming rather worn from being read and re-read by myself and the people I have lent it to.

  3. Having read many books of the simplicity genre you will find that this book is unique. It has challenged me to deeply reflect upon my life and how I can further shed unecessary burdens. Before reading this book I already lived simple. After reading this book it shined the light in areas I was still attached to. This book will have an impact on my life forever. It exposes the emptiness of a life based solely on money, career, possessions, and the daily grind. Awakening the dormant spiritual giant within us that longs for depth and meaning in a society gone mad with superficiality. "Less is More" can help guide one toward the path of freedom, beauty, simplicty and adventure.

  4. I bought my copy circa 1978 at age 35 and shared it with my wife. Even though we were already instinctively thinking along these lines this book impressed us greatly. It's title became something of a household quip and we found ourselves frequently dipping into it and finding something applicable to the rat race. It became so dog-eared that we had it custom bound as a family treasure. Its wisdom has seen us into a early, modest, and satisfactory retirement.

Lots of products claim that they will change your life. This one does...

5 comments about Refuse to Choose!: Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams.
  1. It was such a relief to read this book and realize I am not the only one who suffers from what my family has termed "Career ADD." Scanner is a much friendlier word. I have always felt that my abilities were unique and special, but I have also suffered the reality of being pulled in too many directions to be really effective at anything.

The best parts of this book, for me, were learning that there are other people who are so similar to me, and utilizing a number of the suggested exercises to great effect.

I suspect that those who gave this book a negative review are either 1) not actually scanners themselves, or 2) expecting more from a book than is fair. Was every single page useful to me? Of course not. Nor did I expect it to be, because everyone is different, and I didn't expect the answers to life's questions to appear in a few hundred pages. No career book can do that.

In particular, I can't agree with a couple of points in Dr. Goodwin's review - first, that Sher tries to neatly categorize scanners into different typologies. While she does come up with titles for different types of scanners that share similar characteristics, Sher herself clearly states that no one will fall neatly into any category. But heck, you have to organize a book somehow.

Second, I can't agree with the assertion that Sher's insights are not new. While others may have published works about "scanner" types or about meandering careers in the past, I fear one might have to be a career counselor to be aware of them. The fact that Sher is reaching a broad audience with this idea IS new, otherwise it would not have struck such a chord among us scanners. If Dr. Goodwin were herself a scanner, and were she not a career counselor, with access to many other similar tomes, she might feel the same way.

For those of you out there who truly are scanners, do yourself a favor and read this book. Will it solve all your problems? No. Will it give you some hope and direction? Yes.

  2. If you are on of those people who tries something, then gets bored with it, then tries something else and nothing seems to be 'THE THING' that you want to do in life' then this book is for you! You'll find that there's nothing wrong with you - you're just a SCANNER! Barbara Sher tells you how to live happily doing just what you want to do! No matter what you are interested in - then not - you will not feel guilty anymore for not having that GOAL in life that others have and learn to be happy in your own skin, doing your own things! A Must-Read if you fit the profile - and not a bad read for those who live with you! I am so much more at peace with myself and refuse to let others dictate what I 'SHOULD BE DOING' anymore! Thanks Barbara!
Signed Been There Done That in Sedro-Woolley, WA!

  3. This has been a really good experience. I have ordered several items and have not been disappointed yet. I have confidence in ordering. I hope that you keep up the good work and customer service.

  4. For years, I beat myself up because I hopped from job to job because as soon as I mastered a task, I got bored. Every time I fell in love with a new hobby, I tried to make it a career, only to feel boxed in as soon as it began to take off. I thought I was afraid of success or lazy or undisciplined, but none of that was true. Barbara Sher taught me that I have a beautiful mind--like Leonardo da Vinci. Well, maybe not that good, but I have a hungry mind that needs stimulation. I have nothing to be ashamed of.
Since reading her book, I have written and published travel articles, entered the Pillsbury Bake-off, and started grad school--none of which I would have wasted time on before because they weren't "worthy" activities. I've learned that anything that feeds my soul is worthy and every fleeting interest fills my creative reservoir. Most importantly, I'm the happiest I've ever been since I quit trying to fit into someone else's mold.
If you're feeling flaky or lazy or guilty because you're interested in absolutely everything, read this book.

  5. Barbara Sher is a delight. What I love about her book writing approach is its heartfelt and real. In other words she's lived it in real time and has synthesized her life experiences as a counseler and an author to create this wonderful book. I hope as Barbara's life evolves she finds topics that continue to resonate w/ baby boomer women, and, by extension...others.

  1. Wish I had read this book when I was 15 years old. Even now it has been a blessing in my life! It is never too late to realize how special you are and to value the differences in each one of us. This book taught me so much about self value, self love, self esteem and consequently empowered me to create my own happiness and enjoy "la pura vida". I shared this blessing with my whole family by giving them a copy of this enlightening book.

  2. I enjoyed all the books put out by Don Miguel Ruiz, but this one was truly awesome. I've learned a lot about myself and the love God has for each and everyone of us. I've read this book three times and probably will read it again and again. I enjoyed his wisdom and insight.

  3. Es la mejor experiencia que he tenido para abrir mi corazon y dejar atras todos esos malos recuerdos y sentimientos que muchas veces sin querer o sin yo saber se oponian a mi felicidad.

  4. This is a great book , easy to read and it reall gets to the point fast.

  1. Yes, this is the book to read to bring abundance into your life. Supposedly this was Rhonda Byrne's inspiration. Mine too. Loved the book and then found Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook which gives you the 'doing'part. Don't miss either one- a great combo!

  2. The Science of Getting Rich:
Attracting Financial Success through Creative Thought, 4th ed.
    By Wallace D. Wattles
If you watched The Secret and wondered what the little book was that changed author Rhonda Byrne's life, this is it. Originally published in 1910, its time has come. In light of recent scientific discoveries, we are creating a new worldview in which consciousness is in everything, and in fact, it's through consciousness that matter comes into being. Many of today's widespread prosperity movements are tapped in to this knowledge and now you can also learn the secret.Rahasya Poe, Lotus Guide magazine

  3. Wallace Wattles' masterpiece, one of the definitive works on the principles of success and wealth. Thank you. Definitely belongs in any library on wealth and success.

Note to publisher: There are typos and editing errors. Please fix before the next printing!
    Dorothy

  4. Think and grow rich...great concept. I'm trying it out and hope for the best.

  5. Loved this book--excellent info. It's been almost 100 years since first publication but it rings just as true today. Two versious of the book are included--updated for today's reader and the original version. I love the original version and it's references to businesses of long ago--you can see in retrospect that Mr. Wattles was correct.

5 comments about Wellness Workbook: How to Achieve Enduring Health and Vitality.
  1. Here is the revised and updated version of the book that started the wellness movement, and nearly 30 years later it's still the best! While other wellness books look primarily at diet and exercise, this book looks at the multi-dimensionality of wellness. It's a rich, well documented source of information, perspectives and questions that will, with a little self-responsible commitment on your part, change your life -- I promise. Jack Travis created the models you will find here. I see them in a lot of other books, usually without proper attribution. He is a visionary extraordinaire and he just keeps doing it -- looking to the possible and insisting it can be done. And sure enough, when you give it a try, it can be done and your life will never be the same.

With Regina Ryan's wealth of experience, knowledge and extraordinary clarity, you have a resource that should be in every personal or public library. Put it in yours -- better yet, put it on your bedside table -- read it, use it until it is dog-eared and part of your life. Allow it to help you ask questions, find answers and experiment. Use it to find what works for you. It's not a Bible. It's more like a laboratory. It doesn't say, "This is the only way." It says, "Here are some questions. Here is the research, the information, some possibilities. Try them. See what you think."

It's such a wealth of information and perspectives that from the first edition of The Wellness Workbook in the late `70's (in a 3-ring binder) to this new, classy edition, it's still on my bedside table, keeping me focused on my wellness process.

  2. I am a Certified HypnoBirthing® Childbirth Educator and I am sharing this with every person I know personally and every couple I come into contact professionally. I look forward to sharing it with my young daughter someday 10 years from now [hopefully Dr. Travis & Ms. Ryan will write future editions too]! I ate up each and every page, looking forward to the next. Plus it was easy to read and the index was so detailed that I could locate specific concerns quickly as if Dr. Travis was personally answering my inquiry. I loved the personal pictures from the authors' childhood and the last page [Grand Certificate] deserves to be on everyone's wall. If more parents followed the information in this book, the result would be lots of happier children, better balanced and less angry teenagers and less violent and money/status starved adults in our world. I know I will be referring to my copy for years to come ...or until the cover falls off! Perhaps by then the 4th edition will be birthed. I'm also planning to give copies as gifts since what it better but the gift of health!

  3. The New Wellness Workbook, which was new to me with this 3rd edition, is the most comprehensive book that I have ever seen on wellness. Going far beyond cultural and medical ideas of health, the authors inspire us to look at our own wellbeing from the widest perspective, including emotional, social, and spiritual perspectives. As a holistic GP (family MD) I know that this book will be at the top of my recommended reading list.

  4. I love this book! and am grateful for its reintroduction into the marketplace. With its new look and updated content I can now use the Wellness Workbook in my college health classes without fear of being labeled out of date. The Wellness Workbook was one of the original shapers of the Wellness Movement in the early 1980s, and promoted the idea that health was more than the absence of disease. Authors Travis and Ryan encouraged, and still encourage, readers to think, "Why settle for getting by, when your one precious life could be so much more?" They present Wellness as a jouney, a way of living and thinking, rather than a destination. The Wellness Workbook gracefully suggests that we take a mindful look at our lifestyles, and consider the impact our lifestyles have, in every fine detail, on ourselves, our families, our communities, and our world.
When most people hear the word "Wellness," they think healthful diet, exercise, and maybe a little stress management. This book goes far beyond the standard superficial health advice found in most books with Wellness in their title. The Wellness Workbook presents the most holistic and integrated view of wellness I have ever found in my twenty plus years as a health educator. As an example of this, take a look at the chapter on Wellness and Eating, where Travis and Ryan encourage you to consider the many meanings of hunger and nourishment. Along with a discussion of Eating for High-Level Wellness you will also find sections on Food as a Pain Reliever, Filling Up the Emptiness, and Food as Emotional Insulation. Although these sections may sound somewhat gloomy, the thoughtful writing is nonjudgmental and interesting, and the humor found throughout the book allows the book to "walk its talk" and consider the many sides of every issue, and understand how the many facets of Wellness are related one to another.

  5. This book was recommended to my coworker for an adjunt book for teaching a mental health recovery class. We had an older copy. The new revised edition is even better than before. Many of the participants have liked it so much I have purchased additional copies for their own use. It is a great holistic approach towards wellness and can apply to a lot of differant populations.

5 comments about The Simple Living Guide: A Sourcebook for Less Stressful, More Joyful Living.
  1. After reading this book, you will see that you are nothing but an economic slave to the multitudes of businesses who clamor for your dollar each day of each year.

This work shows you how to have more for less and how to have more money while having more at the same time.

Simplify, streamline and downsize and refine your needs is the hallmark of this work. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SUFFER AND DO WITHOUT you just have to revise how you **DO**

My wife brought me this book after she had read it and it changed my entire viewpoint on how we should do things.

After banging our heads against an impenetrable wall to "keep up with the Jonses" and exhausting years of hard earned savings, it was simply time to do something else.

This book illuminated the way for us.

It is an easy read that can be done very quickly. It will show you some things and give you some ideas that may have never occurred to you.

Of course, if you are still caught up in the rat race and live it, then you certianly are not ready for this book.

If you have BEEN in the rat race and have had your measure of success and find that it simply is not enough because you STILL DON'T HAVE ENOUGH then

YOU ARE READY FOR THIS BOOK.

  2. I love this book because it said it all. We have different views about simplicity & these are only guidelines not rules written in stone.
Saving is important because in this country, a lot of people are up to neck about debt, really it is hard to make ends meet, whether one is single or married w/ children. A lot of books are in sync w/ this book like , Richard Foster's " Freedom of Simplicity" or Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. They are also must read. It will really help make a life lighter if we are only content w/ what is basic.

  3. This book has changed my life. I re-read it every year for continued inspiration.

  4. The author spends too many pages chatting and not enough giving solid advice. The entire gist of the book could be boiled down to one-tenth its current size. Don't buy this book, borrow it.

  5. This is my favorite book in the world! Is that sacrilegious? That I'm a Christian and didn't say the Bible? tee hee. Anyway, I love that it describes simplicity in all the different catagories- clutter, housing, finances, etc. Simplicity is multi-faceted and the more I embrace it the happier I am. Also, I grew up learning about Henry David Thoreau, but this book helped me to understand him as a philosopher I really admire.

5 comments about The Four Things That Matter Most: A Book About Living.
  1. Excellent book being used in a 'Community Read' project, lead by our Church Pastor. Special meeting is planned for 'town people' to attend, to discuss the book and meet the author, Ira Byock.

  2. Wow! It's all so simple yet it bears repeating . . the four things that matter most. As someone who works with hospice, I get so much from everything Mr. Byock shares from his experiences in the field. If you have difficult relationships, especially with family members, this is a great book to read and really take in. It's so much better to finish relationships well than to live with regret--and not only when someone is dying! Thanks again to Ira for sharing with all of us.

  3. I'm studying to be a Geriatric Care Manager and purchased this book to help me understand the needs of the families of the dying. From this book I learned how transformative these four statements can be when facing the terminal illness of a loved one. They are tools for deep communication and for solving long standing problems in relationships- allowing true emotional healing to occur even under the most difficult circumstances. Dr. Byock's message is genius in its simplicity. I really appreciate his compassionate work and his profound message about living and dying.
I recommend this book to anyone who is looking deeply into the meaning of his or her own life or who is going through a difficult time due to the terminal illness of a family member or friend.

  4. 2 days ago I spent 2 hours with my mother who is sick and not expected to live to much longer.

I haven't spent time with her like that for 17 years.

Over the years there have been so many misunderstandings, cross words, mean letters, siblings fighting and talking about each other and I honestly thought it was hopeless. I thought I would never see my mother again. Ever. It was a MESS!

But, it became obvious with lots of work and support over the years that what I wanted most was to tell my mom I love her and how much I appreciate all she has done for me. My severe depression was based on the thought that I literally thought that was impossible.

A few weeks ago, I (well, we) decided it didn't matter the outcome; I had to tell her anyway. I was prepared for the worst. I wrote out the scenarios and read them to my husband and therapist. They helped me visualize and come to grips with how I would handle whatever the outcome would be. Of course part of me really wanted it to go well but no one thought it would.

6 days ago, while preparing I found this book online. I immediately went to the library and got it (only because I couldn't buy it in time! We were leaving in 3 days!!)

I read the entire book that night. OH my gosh. I cried and cried and cried. I prayed that I would have an experience that was good. But I knew I probably wouldn't. But something Dr. Byock said several times about how your loved ones will always live within you struck me. And I knew that is exactly what was driving me crazy.

I KNEW I loved my mom. I KNEW she had done so much for me and THAT'S what I wanted in my heart. That's it. I don't want anymore sadness and hate. I don't want to be confused. I love my mom and that's what I want to feel in my heart and that's what I wanted her to feel in her heart.

So, I had already written a letter to her, but I adapted it to incorporate the 4 things. I bought some beautiful paper and I decorated it. I printed some pictures of her grandchildren. I did it all with only love. All I thought about was I love my mom and even if she can't hear it I know it. I love her and I forgive her and I pray she forgives me. I don't care what anyone else in the family thinks. Maybe she won't want to see me. I'll leave her the letter. I'll put it on the doorstep. I'll pray that someone will give it to her. If she can't read it I'll pray that someone will read it to her. And if not, I made a copy for myself to remind me of how much I love my mom and appreciate all she did for me.

I read the book again the next day (5 days ago). I was so scared to go see her but I knew my only option was to just show up. If I involved anyone else in the family it would become a big drama or I might be talked out of it.

As we drove up even though I was filled sometimes with dread to face the worst, I kept the 4 things in mind always. That's it. That's what it comes down to. Nothing else matters. I told my friends about the 4 things (our best friends who we stopped to stay the night with before I went the rest of the trip.) I wasn't excited or happy about going to my parents house, but I knew I had too.

I was able to visualize that there would be NO drama no matter what - because I would focus ONLY on the 4 things. If someone else in the family happened to be there and wanted to create drama I wouldn't engage because all I cared about was "I love you, Please forgive me, Thank you and I forgive you." And to be honest, I was afraid BEFORE I READ YOUR BOOK that I would want to create drama.

Well, God was on our side.

I drove up just as my dad was bringing my mom back from the doctor.

One of my sisters was walking over to help her out of the car. She saw me and after a few seconds recognized me. I told her all I wanted to do was to tell mom I love her and to ask her to please forgive me for all the hurt feelings. I told her to ask mom if it was OK for me to come in. She said it was a miracle.......

Then I spent 2 lovely hours with my mom, my dad and my sister. The biggest miracle and what I will FOREVER BE GRATEFUL FOR is I was most with my mom. I wanted my mom to know how much I loved her and how grateful I was for her and for what she did for me and my sons. I was able to share with HER my love and my appreciation for the life she gave me and the gifts she bestowed on me and my sons. And because I was clear in my intentions of the 4 things and not all clouded up with past judgments and hurts I could COMMUNICATE THAT 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think my mom will be around for while and I am going to arrange for my grown sons to visit her. I will remain committed to the 4 things with her and the rest of my family.

No matter what happens in the future I have those 2 hours with my mom. I told her I loved her and she told me she loved me.

I recommend this book to everyone.

  5. Awesome book. A must read for everyone who wants to celebrate life and their relationships!

  1. I feel like I have found such a gem in Sylvia Boorstein. Each of her books is better than the last.

  2. I ran across this book one day while surfing and decided to give it a whirl. So glad I did. It's got loads of insight and a practical approach to happiness. A definte must-read for anyone. I also liked and would also suggest Why Can't I Just Be Happy? A Realistic Approach To Happiness.

  3. Choosing the three mind training steps of the Eightfold Path as the focus for her book, meditation teacher Sylvia Boorstein mixes The Buddha's advice with her personal experiences to explain how to restore the mind to balance after disruptive events start a story that spirals us into a state of dissatisfaction with life or others. Consistent with Boorstein's view that the responses of a balanced mind are friendliness, compassion, appreciation; she offers a simple test for this state of unbalance or confusion, "In this moment, am I able to care?" And, for her it is this ability to restore the mind to kindness that is happiness.

As do most meditative teachers, Boorstein advises that suffering results from struggling with what is beyond our control. What is past is past; let it go, "that's life." Relief comes when: The mind says, "I want something different, but this is what I have." And, when: We restore our ability to rejoice with other people. If I understand her, this is a form of wisdom that we all possess - the steps she offers are a path to finding it after the moment of unbalance.

The first of these mind training's three steps is Wise Effort, the moment-to-moment discrimination practice meant to direct the attention in its choice of focus - this is the awareness "wake-up call". Step two, Wise Mindfulness is described as then taking the "I" out of the situation, or it is that moment of seeing the situation within a larger context - rather than seeing it within our emotional frame. The last, step three, is Wise Concentration - it is composure as an antidote to the energies of; desire, anger, fatigue, worry, and doubt - the `how to' is a meditative act.

While I enjoyed reading the book, which gave me the feeling of having a wise master speak with me, I must confess it was a bit difficult to process the wisdom being given. While her stories helped me understand how the practice works, they did little to help me really distinguish the steps for daily applications. But, as I write this, I am still thinking about what she said, and maybe that is the point.

  4. Dr. Boorstein books and essays are like a franchise. You know what to expect before you even open the cover. However, like individual franchise locations, some are better than others. Her current book should win the franchise of the month award.

Dr. Boornstein strikes just the right balance between conveying several fundamental Buddhist principles from original or near sources, then describes them very well in her own words. Finally she illustrates them with her trademark story telling drawn from her day to day experiences - which are really no different from our own.

She also reminds us, in what I feel is a culturally Jewish framework, that an awakened life includes profound sorry. Shut that off and you have become numb not happy.

I would recommend this book for those just wading into the water of Buddhist thought and practice, as well as for those who want to take a break from rigorous Buddhist study and concentrated meditation to immerse themselves in the cool spring water of everyday experience reflected on so gently by Dr. Boornstein.

  5. This cd book relies heavily on anecdotal examples of viewpoint shifting. This is not necessarily a bad thing. But I personally found the majority of the anecdotes to be quite boring. Consequently I lost interest in this cd halfway through.

  1. This is an excellent audio book. I plan on purchasing many more. I listen to my audio books in my car and fully enjoy listening to Joyce Meyer. What a great way to start my day.

  2. When I first received my copy of Joyce Meyer's book, The True Secret To Happiness, my first thoughts were, "I've read nearly every book she has written and stood in line for hours to hear her preach, what else could I possibly learn from her?"

    Whew.... where do I start?

I found the answers to the following questions in this book:

How can I truly enjoy life given my circumstances?
How can I be completely satisfied with where I am in my life?
How can I be happy with, and most importantly, how can I love me?

Joyce answers these questions by focusing on our relationship with God. This is not a book on how to be happy in the way the world perceives happiness but instead, it is about the pure joy that can only come as a result of our relationship with God. Girl, I got inspired and happy just reading through the chapter titles!

The clear cut principals that are given in this book are so simple that the reader may be shocked that they didn't think of it themselves. There are also humorous stories spread throughout the book that are sure to make the reader smile and I appreciate that given the subject matter. I learned to enjoy life one day at a time and to soak it up and savor it.

There are 28 short and easy to read chapters in this book. They cover every area from laughing, trusting through trials, and health to simplicity, raising the standard, and creativity. The type is fairly large which makes it easy to read and the layout is pleasing to the eye. It is complete with an appendix of scriptures that you can pray and memorize. This book gives hope and who couldn't use some of that?

This book is scheduled to be released on April 29, 2008. I highly recommend that you get a copy and while you are at it, bless that friend who could use a bit of happiness!

  4. I have several Joyce Meyer books and they have all been wonderful sources of encouragement and helped me tremendously in my life. Joyce's books teach you how to live each day of your life and learn how to enjoy each day, no matter what you may be going through, relying on the Lord as your strength and source for all your needs.
