5 comments about The Loving Dominant.
  1. From personal experiences to helpful hints.

I'd recommend this book for any Dom wishing to improve his/her game.

  2. This book is good for a beginner because it gives you a more philosophical view of being in a sub/dom relationship. It stresses safety when playing. The writer is an experienced dominant who expresses himself well. It is a good companion book to SM 101.

  3. This is a good beginners book with short sections on different topics. That's all it is thoughm a beginners book. If you're looking for something more in-depth, then this book will do nothing but disappoint you. I ordered this book along with Different Loving. This one is now shelved while Different Loving is being refered to over and over again. Unless you're a beginner or someone just curious, I wouldn't get this one.

  4. To submit your body and life to another - no, this isn't a religious thing. This is a few people's ideas of romance. Now in a new and updated edition for the new millennium, "The Loving Dominant" is a guide to the BDSM (a short hand way of abbreviating the life style meaning Bondage, Discipline, Submission, and Masochism) for any reader too timid to vocally ask the questions about the lifestyle which is more kind and loving than it seems to the people involved. Covering advice to make the best of the lifestyle to all, and with advice on toy-construction and photography, "The Loving Dominant" is an ideal addition to any human sexuality shelf and for any alternative lifestyle collection.

  5. This book is an excellent resource for any man or woman involved with a dominant person, one that guides & informs. Excellent & easy reading for the bdsm novice & experienced alike. This is one of the first books you should buy.

5 comments about The Art of Sexual Ecstasy: The Path of Sacred Sexuality for Western Lovers.
  1. This book is a complete sacred sex course in itself. With lots of meditations, activities, and exercises, it is particularly suited for couples who want to open up to each other emotionally as well as physically.

  2. I think this book is made up of a bunch of baloney. I don't believe a word of it. I think that way too much importance is placed on sex, to the point of being obsessed with it. It's about a bunch perverts, in my opinion. The author's interest and obsession with sex is not normal. It appears she thinks of nothing else in life, except sex, and who to have it with.

  3. I have owned this book for years and finally found a partner 6 years ago who was open enough to try some of the practices with me. It is chock full of fantastic exercises and ways of percieving and looking at things, with tools for opening your heart and mind to true intimacy.

We liked it so much that we went to a workshop with Margot last week. Of course, we came home and got the book out right away to see what else we can use to add to our relationship and our lives together.

  4. Margot Anand has several books available to keep intimacy fresh for couples. This book is the best of it's kind. Even for people who roll their eyes at the "spiritual" aspects of sex, this books advice on sensuality, intimacy and arousal can bring a revived freshness into relationships even after years with the same partner.

The "Ritual of the Senses" itself is worth the price of the book. Guys that don't think they have anything to learn about sex REALLY should read this book...

  5. I'm still waiting for the book on sacred sexuality that doesn't talk to me like I don't know where my own vagina is. I'm from a freak scene where men aren't afraid to indulge their feminine sides and neither are the women, where walking around naked ain't no big deal and many of us have found our g spots and prostates and are happily stimulating them.

It seems that this book targets the same audience as practically every other mainstream "sacred sexuality" book out there - middle-aged folks bored with their sex lives and with the kind of money necessary to attend these sorts of workshops (and the illustrations reflect that - I'm not complaining though, I'm happy to see realistic folks getting down!)

So be it - I'm happy to know that Margot Anand is doing the work that she does, even if I couldn't ever afford one of her workshops. Like I said, I'm still waiting for a book that ups the ante on sacred sexuality and I might just have to write it myself. If that were the case, I'd want this woman right by my side to help me out. I know she knows what she's talking about.

Btw, folks, let's not confuse today's "sacred sexuality" with real, true tantra (Anand makes this difference clear). Sexuality IS sacred, however, and realizing it as such will definitely change your life. However, sex is merely a small part of the TRUE practice of Tantra.

5 comments about The Road Home.
  1. this was absolutely the most beautiful, soul searching book i have read in a long time. it truly reflects my life now... The Road Home. It was given to me from my parents after a 10 day hospital stay for mental illness and substance abuse. i am now taking footsteps of faith, hope, and love. i had lived a life of so much despair and suffering that, at times, suicide seemed the only option. but, i have realized that through the power of prayer and faith that the healing can truly begin...whether mentally, emotionally, or spiritually. i know that God loves me and that gives me faith and hope and fills my heart with love. though it will be a slow transformation, which is life's journey, i now know, with extreme clarity that i am ready to heal and become "whole" again. denise shares her own struggles and emphasizes with the beauty of scripture how amazing God can show us miracles everyday. my hope and prayer is that my marriage can also be restored through the amazing gift of God's love for each of us as His children. i believe with all my heart and soul that God can transform through tragedy. thank you, denise, for putting a special book together that brought out so much truth for me. Thank you for your gift of writing and sharing your candidness with others and, again, showing that Faith, Hope, and Love are three very special words.

    S.S., Golden, CO

  2. i love that book.i red her first book to.i have something with her.
i love that women how she handle all this she is great.

  3. This is a very well written book and has a lot of inspirational verses in it. I would recommend this book to everyone.

  4. I purchased her first book "It's all About Him." It was a good inspirational read. This book should've been marketed as a condensed version of her first. I felt duped after I bought it.

  5. This is a good book. However, I had already read It's All About Him and this one is a smaller version of that book. But, having said that, this book would make a wonderful inspirational gift and I highly recommend it.

5 comments about The Well-Fed Self-Publisher: How to Turn One Book into a Full-Time Living.
  1. This book is full of good ideas and is very accessible. What could be a dauntingly large area is broken down well. The writing style is enthusiastic and I would say this book is well worth getting.

  2. This book is a must-have resource if you're thinking about dipping your toes into the waters of self-publishing. It's packed full of practical tips, suggestions and advice - all based on the author's own experience and success as a self publisher. As such it's an invaluable reference guide that I know will see a lot of use in the months and years to come.

It's also a great read - I read the whole thing in two long sessions. The author manages to blend a deluge of practical advice with a few recurring and powerful ideas. That publishing your book is just the start of the enterprise. That if you're focused, creative and hard working you too can turn that book into an income.

I'd thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who's thinking of self-publishing.

  3. I have read a lot of the books on self publishing, but I have to say this one is my favorite. The reason is that Peter Bowerman answered many of the questions about self publishing that I had, and he also includes some good marketing information.

One of the biggest questions I had was where to go and publish my book once I finished it. Peter tackles this question quite nicely, and although he suggests taking a look at Lulu, I chose someone else. However, he helped me make a decision that was better for me and my business.

What makes this book stand head and shoulders above other books on self publishing is that it isn't as long. That doesn't mean he shortchanges you on information. Everything you need to know about self publishing your book is clearly explained. Sales and marketing, a crucial element to making real money from your book is thoroughly covered, and he even includes a chapter on Amazon.

If you are a beginner, this is definitely where you need to start. Even if you aren't, you still want to read this book because it covers all of the things a lot of self publishing books don't.

For those of you who don't consider yourself writers (I am both a writer and internet marketer), you still want to read this book. It will teach you what you need to know to self publish a book. Publishing your own book will help you build more credibility into your business, and you will definitely make more money.

This book is a must have for those who self publish, and it contains all of the resources you need to know about.

Jinger Jarrett, Author, Internet Marketing for Free: The GUIDE: Internet Marketing to GO!

  4. This book is, in a word, awesome. It has literally been our bible through the whole process of publishing our book, start to finish. I've worn out my first copy and am now actually going to pay to buy a second one. Yup, folks, it's THAT good.

  5. If you plan on self-publishing you absolutely must get this book. No doubt about it. Appendix C alone is worth 100x times the price of the book!

I bought at least a dozen books on this topic to really get a good handle on how to publish my own book Blog Blazers. But none of them came close to the value Peter's book had to offer. Like I said before, Appendix C is gold - it's almost a summarized self-publishing plan taken from the rest of his book (it even refers to the pages in the book where you can get the full details).

I got so much from the book that I ended up contacting Peter and used his consulting services for my own book. And it was worth it! I can't even begin to express how much he helped me.

If you are serious about publishing your own book, you have to buy this book. It will save you an incredible amount of money, time, and headaches.

5 comments about Wisdom Cards (Beautiful Card Deck).
  1. I love these cards but some do not fit my way of thinking. So just pick and choose the ones you like. There are enough to excuse the ones that are not so good. I love putting these cards around my house, or I read them before going to bed to give myself positive thoughts for sleeping. The quality of the cards is excellent--sturdy cards with a glossy finish. The artwork is whimsy. Have fun with these cards.

  2. I keep one or two cards out on the table each day. I love the way they look and the affirmations keep me on track.

  3. These beautiful cards inspire just the way I hoped! I love the colours and the messages go right to the core of my beeing! I highly recommend them!

  4. I love this deck! It helps to guide your thoughts every day. I buy them for gifts for people, they love them! It is truly a gift that keeps on giving!

  5. I am so happy with these cards. They feel good in the hand. They are the perfect weight and glossiness. They're 2 sided. One side gives you a short affirmation and the other side is a longer explanation or description which clarifies it for you. The appearance of the content itself (font and pics) are also perfect. Then there is the text (the wisdom). Lovely! Excellently written, simply worded but poetic at the same time. Leaves you nodding and saying, "Yes! That is it!" every time.

5 comments about The Heart of Addiction: A New Approach to Understanding and Managing Alcoholism and Other Addictive Behaviors.
  1. A respectable service to addiction by questioning tradition thoughts and treatments. Without trashing other systems, the author transers years of insight and research from his own practice into a framework that is logical, consistent and practical. He deftly removes the overtones of religion, shame and isolation that can (and has) resulted in what I call 'orphaned addicts'. His content inspires rethinking of the addictive process and yields to constructive self-examination without 'preachiness'. A safe-read for anyone who may be questioning their own addictive behavior and a must-read for those familiar with traditional addiction methods.

  2. The field of addiction counseling has struggled with how to understand and treat addiction for decades. For some, addiction is best understood as a disease that can respond to the standardized treatment of detox, group work and self-help programs, AA in particular, that focus primarily on addictive behavior. For others, addiction is a behavior driven by underlying conflicts and issues that need to be addressed in a treatment process designed for each individual, one that addresses his/her specific underlying psychological dynamics. This book is a comprehensive presentation of that second perspective. It is a thorough discussion of the psychology of addiction. Whether one agrees fully with the perspecitve is less important than the importance of understanding what it contributes to efforts to develop effective intervention with persons struggling with addictive disease. This book does provides the reader with an opportunity to make that assessment.

  3. I don't usually buy books of this nature but it was recommended to me by a friend. Even if you don't have an issue of addiction this book will help you understand and cope with others that do in your life. I have a degree in Applied Behavior and I can say this is one of the most useful books I've ever read. The examples of real people and reasoning is extremely sound.

  4. I am licensed as a therapist specializing in chemical dependency and have worked in the field of addiction for many years and have treated hundreds of people and thousands of family members. I read about addiction constantly, review all research and I must say that although this book is very well written is fraught with the same misconceptions and twists of logic that have been around and answered for many years. This is just a more stylish manner of refuting redundant research and twisting logic by lumping terms together and holding out the hope that if an addict or alcoholic can address their inner demons they can use in moderation. The book equates compulsive obsessive behaviors such as sex addiction with alcoholism. It tries to convince you that apples are the same as oranges. It suggests that problems cause addiction when the opposite is true. This book would be totally refuted if openly subject to scientific review alone. It doesn't even address AA. They book is written by a therapist who wants to "treat" you for your "addictions" that are caused by your own supposed "inability to cope". Although this may be true of sexual compulsivity or hand washing, it simply does not fit with known and documented bio genetic predispositional properties and cellular bio mechanical attributes of chemical dependency. Ask a responsible therapist if individual counseling works on addicts. It almost always ends in failure. Why not address AA? Perhaps because it does not entirely jive with the premise of this book; That people can "learn" or be "therapized" into wellness from drug and alcohol addiction, which is not only irresponsible, but potentially hazardous to the alcoholic who is desperate to learn how to drink "normally". I guess, if not for the intentional misinformation, it could be an entertaining read for someone with OCD issues. The book perpetuates ignorance and false hopes about chemical addiction. A better read can be found in Milam and Ketcham's milestone book "Under The Influence."

  5. I found this book refreshing and very insightful regarding the issue of addiction. Anyone could use the insight contained here, whether or not you are an addict. I would encourage friends and family members of addicts to read this to get a better understanding of the real heart issues behind addiction.

It's time for the mental health community to recognize that treatment must get to the root of the problem - the heart, or drive, behind the negative behavior. Meds and meetings won't solve the issue; they just control the 'symptoms' of a broken heart.

If you are suffering from an addiction, read the book and start journaling as though you are talking to a therapist like the author (if you currently don't have a therapist like him). Ask for truth to be revealed as you do this. It may be that you can find the point of helplessness that drives you to your addiction. It's worth a try. The main message of the book is very powerful. A must read for students of addiction.

5 comments about The Color Code: A New Way to See Yourself, Your Relationships, and Life.
  1. This book really helped to open my eyes. I understand why people do the things that they do. it helped me to understand myself and why I feel the way that I do sometimes. I have a whole new "people" outlook!

  2. The color code is not founded on anything but theory. No tests, no experiments, no psychological research other than Dr. Hartman's personal observations. The information in this book is useless and repetitive. You will be confined to a core motive, and will be stuck with all the flaws and strengths of that color. The book mentions but does not explain how different core motives make a person, and how to overcome personality flaws. Go ask any psychologist and you will find out The Color Code is really Color Crap.

  3. I am amazed by this book. As I read the chapter on my personality color, I couldn't believe that the author had me figured out down to the very nuances of my behavior. This book has helped me view others with more understanding and forgiveness. You will never look at people the same way again. Every person I know who has read this book can't stop talking about it. It goes down as one of my favorite books ever. Your relationships will improve as a result. This book is a must read for all and a perfect wedding gift.

  4. I am a Registered Nurse and I was working at a hospital as a "quality assurance utilization manager" when a co-worker gave me this book. I was in the 13th year of my career and had always received great annual reviews from supervisors regarding the quality of my work. After working in this new administrative job for a year I got one of the lowest evaluations of my entire working life - after I had put more time, energy and passion into this new job than I had in any of my previous positions!
After I read this excellent book (back in 1991) I immediately understood the problem: My boss was a "Red" and "Yellow" personality, driven by power and craving focused attention. My personality is "White" and "Blue" so I seek peace and intimacy. Trust me - it was not a good fit! Thankfully I was able to quit my job and become a full-time parent to my two sweet children.

    Fast forward seventeen years.....
My children are now 21 and 22 years old and attending college. They have been raised on the "Color Code" concepts and it has dramatically improved the quality of their interactions with family, friends, teachers and other acquaintances. My daughter has an intense "blue & yellow" personality (like my husband) and my son is "white and yellow" - which must be the most laid back personality on the planet! I am not exaggerating when I say that I use the concepts in this book every single day.

Thank you Taylor Hartman for your most excellent book!

  5. This book helped me realize that I was a Core White with a secondary Blue. That's just exciting.

Now for the real review: I happen to find Hartman's system brilliant. He leaves plenty of room for individuality, but has still managed to find specific characteristics that dominate society and group them into four basic patterns. He also takes care to explain his theory and why it works in real life. With that are plenty of anctedotes of patients with whom he has worked, all that human intereraction to solidify these personalities.

The quiz is easy, but complex and varying, managing to cover many parts of a person. After that are the descriptions of each color, both positive and negative. After that he expands into relationships, work, personal improvement, you name it--the goal of making our individual personalities work. It's all very practical for understanding ourselves and how we work with others.

It's informative, insightful, and just plain fun. Most of all, it's very logical.

5 comments about Shibari You Can Use: Japanese Rope Bondage and Erotic Macramé.
  1. My favorite beginner's ropework book. Down-to-earth, funny, and clear; a warm introduction to what can be an intimidating subject.

As a bonus, the models in the photos are cute without looking like models; they are just normal folks having a good time. Glamour shots of Beautiful People in complex bondage (coughMidoricough) are great eye-candy, but when it comes to translating those pictures at home (or wherever), I find something with a more conversational/ approachable tone to be more effective.

  2. I think this book is okay. If you are into rope art and are a beginner, I would recommend The Two Knotty Boys, Showing You The Ropes. This book breaks down the different knots and such, also, more detailed photos, in my opinion.

  3. i wasn't that impressed, but it was a pretty good book to check out for bondage.

  4. This is a nice beginners book on shibari. Pictures are clear and it has all the popular shibari positions for you to learn. Excellent purchase.

  5. When I was looking into getting this book, I read the reviews and ordered it. After getting and reading this book I don't agree with the other reviews. I agree it is an excellent book, but I don't think this is the book to get if this is your first time doing rope work. If you have never done any rope bondage before, I would suggest getting the book "Two Knotty Boys Showing You The Ropes: A Step-by-Step, Illustrated Guide for Tying Sensual and Decorative Rope Bondage by Two Knotty Boys". The color photo's and the way they are placed next to each other make it a much easier book for a beginner to learn, in my experience and my opinion. Now if you already have that book and want to learn more techniques, designs and styles then definitely get this book. If you have been interested in rope bondage for a long time and are finally getting the chance to learn and you know that you are going to love it and continue to do it, then get them both if it's in your budget. This book if full of great information, very well written, has a great way of wording things. Although the black and white photo's, as well as their spacing onto several pages made it hard to follow. While on the bed while working the ropes and having to turn pages at the same time is a task I am good at or enjoy. For example, the chest harness starts on page 52 and finishes on page 61.
