5 comments about With Winning in Mind: The Mental Management System.
  1. Bassham gives one a blueprint for acheiving success in almost any endeavor. It takes work and persistence, it's not magic, but it does work.

  2. Lanny's book is one of the best books I've read for how to focus your thinking towards success. Whilst written with the shooting sports in mind, it is extremely applicable to all areas of life. If there is something you would like to achieve (even weight loss), the approach outlined is applicable.

  3. This is a great book! I love the fact that it is filled with helpful instruction on how the mind works but not too much wordy filler that I can't understand or implement. Lanny has a great way of getting the information to you in a short, concise manner that is inspiring, helpful and meaningful. I have used this system in my career, my home life and in performance. I believe that I am a better Mom, wife and business woman due to what I have learned in the pages of this book and other Mental Management materials. I recommend this book to everyone but my favorite book by Lanny is his new one Freedom Flight - The Origins of Mental Power. That book really hit home to me in a big way. "With Winning in Mind" is wonderful and well worth the money but I definitely recommend Freedom Flight as well!

Great Job Lanny - keep up the good work and write more books!!

  4. This book is not going to teach you how to perform your task, but rather give you some good sound tools on managing your mind games - well worth the read!

  5. Hidden gem among the many books bout leadership. A must for anybody looking to reach a goal.

5 comments about Type Talk: The 16 Personality Types That Determine How We Live, Love, and Work.
  1. Have you ever walked into a co-workers office and asked them a question as they first look at you with a glazed look, and then ask you to repeat the question? Have you dealt with a people who take forever to answer anything? How about trying to understand individuals who seem to be somewhat unfocused and a bit scattered in their conversation?

The book Type Talk is a great introduction to understanding the personality make up of these types of people and basically everyone else.

This book breaks down the 16 Myers Briggs Types to come up with an introduction to individuals who want to know why people do the things they do.

For individuals who know types through the MBTI, this book will assist you in understanding the type of almost anyone you talk with, and be able to relate better with them. For someone who has not been through the MBTI, this book will allow you to be introduced to personality types without animal names, colors or something that sounds like a sickness (phlegmatic....ahem....)

You will come to understand and reflect on how someone who tends to be more Introverted or Extroverted, Sensing or iNtuitive, Thinking or Feeling, Judging or Perceiving and how a combination of the above will determine how people tend to relate to the people in their lives, how they approach life in general and daily.

This book could help everyone to understand the world we live in.

One thing though, don't put people in a box. If someone is considered one of the 16 types, that is not a box they are in, that is the reference they usually feel most comfortbably working from.

Thuesen and Kroeger bring together their years of research and have a lot of documentation for back up and instruction.

A must book if you are in Human Resources, Training or Education or if you love the differences that make up the human race.

  2. This book is an amazing introduction to Typology. I started reading it and could not put it down. There is so much useful information in this book that can only help you when you have dealings with others. It can also help you learn a great deal about yourself. The authors pointed out that was the main purpose of this book.

For example is was able to determine that I am a INFP. I also learned that it's very uncommon to be an INFP, being a male. I was also able to learn what types of work envoirnments I work well in, what types of careers people with my type are attracted too, what other types I correspond with best, and much more. Also finding out that all of my poor Introverted people were persecuted for being so quiet, and often recieved constant day-to-day pressure to get out and be normal (so I'm not alone). Not realizing that this behavior could not be more normal.

This book is a very easy and enjoyable read. Everything is well organized and laid out. The authors use alot of conversation examples between different personality types, often a riot to read, it also makes a point about different types of people, which really helped me the most. This book has so much to offer, everybody can benefit greatly from it.

  3. Morphological

You can't really tell what personality type a person is just by using the guide in this book, you need Socionic's morphological method in order to get trough that first step. It's a great book once you know what personality types everybody is.

There are other serious problems with the typelogic tests. The one you take on typelogic dot com determines your internal self. Myself for example-internally I am ESTJ but in reality I am INFJ (ESTJ is my dual-the person who is the best match for my personality type). Second, as you can see from my example of testing ESTJ my internal dual-seeking self is manifesting outwardly flawing the results of the test thereby putting you in a pool of people you wouldn't get along with. For correct results-type yourself using How to Find Yourself and Your Best Match Socionics by Rod Novichkov then take the MBTI test and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

  4. This book was recommended to me by someone who is trained in Personality Types. I took the questionnaire with this person so this book is the 'companion' to the work I've been doing. But, it is not necessary to use the book along with a professional!!

Type Talk is written very well, easy to understand, with a lot of examples. It's not written in a technical fashion, so any lay person can understand what is discussed.

As far as the information: packed full. This is a great book. I'm thinking of picking up a few copies for some people close to me. (I'd give them my copy when I'm done but I'm going to hang on to for future reference!) The authors don't expect the book to be the final, end-all problem solver. Rather, it's a tool to understand the way people tend to act, think and talk.

It's great for figuring out relationships at home, work or with friends and why we all react the way we do. I highly recommend it.

  5. I am an adult educator in the leadership and management field, one of the instruments we use is MBTI. This a great primer for basic understanding of type. One of the authors, Otto Kroeger is probably the best trainer on type around. He is extremely gifted at teaching others to truly understand personality types - his book does a great job of that as well. If you want to add to your type training materials, or simply want a good understanding this book is for you!

5 comments about Embraced by the Light.
  1. Embraced by the Light is one cliche after another. This book is written as 'proof' that Jesus is God, and affirms the faith of the author and anyone willing to believe her words.

Most of the story on her early struggles with faith, her near death experience, visions, etc are no different than any other near death account from a devoted Christian. Her vision seems to me to be something similar to an acid-trip, as the vividness and 'knowledge' she discovered is much like that of one using psychedelics.

The authors style is one of cheap religious inspiration...no wonder this was a bestseller. It preys on our desire to find deeper meaning in the world and to affirm existing faiths as truths.

  2. If you attack this book, you are not attacking Christianity. If you want to learn something about Christianity, stay away from this book - read the Bible instead. Eadie consistently denies the foundational ideas about Jesus and salvation found in the Bible and therefore cannot be seen as a representative of Christianity any more than a Buddhist monk would be.

Believe what you want about Jesus, but understand that Embraced By The Light is not talking about the same Jesus described in the Bible.

  3. I found this book very enjoyable. Made you want not to fear death. This is the type of book you donot want to set down. Excellent reading

  4. Embraced by the LightI had originally seen, checked out and read this book from the Public Library many years ago! It was one of the Best Books, I had ever read then or since about out of body experiences and the peace that comes from experiencing what it is like to go towards that Beautiful, glorious light! What I was after in those days when I read that book was learning about how it had felt to go up to Heaven and that Wonderful Peace that everyone experiences that goes up to Heaven for a brief time. This book will also give Great Comfort to those who have lost loved ones and the questions they may have about it.

  5. I recently lost a brother. A friend loaned our mother this book. The book didn't answer all my questions, but it did address a significant portion of them. I found her story captivating and comforting, and I intend to buy my own copy so I can highlight the most meaningful portions. The author describes heaven as a place so wonderful that she did not want to return to her body. If you're wondering where your deceased loved ones are now, I recommend reading this book.

5 comments about Willpower's Not Enough: Recovering from Addictions of Every Kind.
  1. I sent this book to my cousin. She has battled seriously with addiction. She told me that she enjoyed it very much, and that there was a lot of usefull information. She said she would continue to use it as a reference tool.

  2. As an addiction counselor, I am always looking for books to recommend to my clients. This book in my opinion is one of the best out there. I usually will have my clients read this along with "7 Tools to Beat Addiction" by Stanton Peele. This gives them an understanding of two very different ways of approaching the problem and between the two you get a pretty comprehensive overview of treatment strategies.

  3. Willpower is not Enough is the best book on addiction that i have read so far and i have read dozens. it gives a brilliant breakdown of the personality traits that most addicts tend to have, why people become addicts and why they continue to use drugs despite such painful consequences, the typical kinds of families that addicts tend to come from, what drugs really offer the drug addict that make the consequences so worth it, what codependents get out of their obsession, and finally a step by step guide explaining how to pull oneself out of the hopeless cycle of addiction and into healthy living. this book is comprehensive, brilliant, original, brave, and hopeful.

  4. Wow, what can I say. A book that really helps the user to understand themselves and why they continue to do what they do and ways to help themselves as well as reach out for the help they need to break their addiction. Helps them to understand relapse and what it really means and how to deal with it. Highly recommended for the family too. ANOTHER GREAT BOOK [ASIN:156838999X Addict In The Family: Stories of Loss, Hope, and Recovery.]meant for the family how to really understand the user and how we enable the user without knowing it... how to stop enabling while giving love and support to the user leading them to recovery Helps the user understand how their substance use really affects the ones they love and the family dynamics.

  5. This book is one of the best I have read on addictive behaviors. Most of these titles have one or two chapters that are helpful, while the rest are mediocre. This volume has valuable insight from cover to cover. Although not a specifically Christian work, the author does encourage people who struggle with an addiction to call upon a higher power. I recommend this book highly.

5 comments about Becoming Orgasmic: A Sexual and Personal Growth Program for Women.
  1. I got this book hoping it would have some new insight and excersises to help me reach orgasm more frequently with my lover. However, I soon discovered everything in the book had already been thought of. You see, this book is aimed at women who have NEVER ever had an orgasm before in their lives, at women who are afraid to look at or touch themselves, at extremely religious couples who need to be TOLD to loosen up, and so forth. It just wasn't for me, and it isn't for most of you who are seeking more fulfillment in your sex lives. Secondly, the illustrations are drawn by a man, and they look more like bimbo models. I'm sure he enjoyed being paid to draw masturbating women. The pictures are not helpful, they're offensive.

  2. What I appreciated most about this book was that it was NOT pornography in disguise. Most sexual 'how to' and self help books can be quite degrading, graphic, or base. This is a text book. These two doctors know their stuff and went to great lenghts to write medically accurate and proffionally. (Still, I got a giggle that the doctor's last name is Heiman.)

I like the fact that this book doesn't have a right way, only way, or quick fix formula. It helps one explore all possiblities for sexual dysfunction and helps the woman better unstand her dysfunction.

The tone of this book is very encourageing- just what women need to hear, that your problem does not isolate you or make you different. My doctor reccomended this book to me. I reccomend it to you.

  3. What I liked best about this book, was it was not pornography in disguise. So many sex "self-help" books boarder on the inapproptiate. But not this one. The language was respectful and diagrams tasteful.

"Becoming Orgasmic" is very professionally written by doctors, with a lot of clinical research, both their own and by others. What I appriciated was that the doctors did not present a quick-fix, one size fits all solution. This book is meant to help a woman heal herself. THe book stayed respectful and lets the woman that she is not alone and that her dyfunction does not make her weird or strange.

This workbook was recommended to me by a doctor and I recommend it to you.

  4. For all those women out there who think there's something wrong with them... chances are there's NOT!!!

This book is thoroughly helpful. I was almost at the point of giving up hope altogether... then I purchased this book on a whim, after reading a recommendation of it by an on-line sex therapist. Let me say I have NO regrets!! It was one of the best buys of my life.

The style is easy to understand and the tone is compassionate; but it is not patronizing, like some other self-help books can be. On the contrary, I found it to be quite educational. I have learnt a great deal about relationships and dealing with my emotional baggage, in addition to all the detailed stuff about my physiology and how to press the right buttons.

On the whole, this book has boosted my confidence in the bedroom ten-fold. To anyone who has problems achieving the big 'O', I couldn't recommend it more. Ten thumbs up!

  5. This book helped me immensely. I bought the book about 7 years ago. Before I read and followed this book, I thought I would be "faking it" my whole life. I doubt I would have figured out how to acheive "it" if I hadn't read this. I highly recommend it to any woman who just doesn't get it when it comes to orgasm and you feel like you're the only one! This book can truly help you.

5 comments about Are You the One for Me?: Knowing Who's Right and Avoiding Who's Wrong.
  1. This book is fantastic! I cannot recommend it more strongly. The book is not a naff 'how to get a man' book, it really helps you work out why you make mistakes not only with partners, but also with relationships generally. It really helps you get to know yourself and why you make the relationship choices you do. It is very practical with lots of helpful advice and strategies, and quizzes. It is good fun. I have put one or two of the suggestions into practice and it is really helping me. Forget about the naff cover, some of the phrases and typeface, read and take in the contents, you will be impressed by how useful this book is. Go on BUY IT!!!

  2. A friend turned me onto this book and it was the greatest gift ever. I keep it on my nightstand! Barbara really has you ask the tough questions of potential relationship material. Sometimes it might feel like you are interviewing the other person (and it would be nice to have her explain how to tactfully ask some of these questions as well as when to ask as asking all of them on a first date would scare the BeJesus out of anyone). I have been single for quite awhile since I read this book, and I refer to it every time I meet someone. The book acts as a "Snap out if it" slap in the face moment for me and keeps me from totally being swept away by the romantic notion of being in love.

  3. Barbara DeAngelis' book is written for women in their mid twenties and older. Although the book focuses primarily on the needs of women, men can gain some valuable insights from it. DeAngelis developed her ideas on relationships from her professional education, clients and some significant personal relationship challenges of her own.

DeAngelis reflects her sensitivity to staying away from picking incompatible men in her writing. Several chapters mirror her philosophy. They are: "Falling in love for all the wrong reasons," "The six biggest mistakes we make in the beginning of a relationship," The ten types of relationships that won't work," "Fatal flaws," and Compatibility time bombs."

Written clearly and understandably, Are You the One for ME? is a excellent book for women who consistently make bad relationship choices, and are serious about changing!

The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking

  4. This book is outstanding. There are many questions for you to answer and personalize to yourself, plus many answers regarding how you or your significant other acts and what it means, including the type of childhood you had or the parents you had. There are also reasons why we choose who we do. It is very informative, and is perfect for figuring out your current relationship, past one or a future one. Take the quizzes and do the exercises; you'll learn things about yourself you didn't know (and about others as well). This book should be a requirement before getting into a relationship!

  5. Excellent book!!! Recommended by another person that used the advice. Bought one for an acquaintence to help her share in the wisdom. Would recommend to anyone who needs to find his/her soulmate.Dr. DeAngelis has many other inspiring books, too!

5 comments about Haley's Cleaning Hints.
  1. Haley must have had a lot of time on his hands, but thank goodness for that. He's like the MacGyver of household cleaning. Who knew to save the baking soda for the drain. Works like a charm with a little vinegar. Also works great to mop up grease off the surface. No more blockages for me.

    Thanks Haley

  2. I have used this book for years. Now I give it as a gift at every Bridal Shower I attend!

  3. I like the fact that the book has lots of ways to clean but it lacks detail. It's as if the person knew what they wanted to say but couldn't get it down on paper. I don't think that the writer would have ever passed any of my college English classes.

  4. Haley's Cleaning Hints is a must-have in your home. I have both of his books and refer to them often. It's a go-to book that you shouldn't be without. There are so many helpful hints on what to do when getting out a stain using just what you would commonly already have around the house, ie. baking soda, vinegar, etc.

5 comments about Calming Your Anxious Mind: How Mindfulness & Compassion Can Free You from Anxiety, Fear, & Panic.
  1. it deffinatley helped me out however I found that alot of the information and phrases are used over and over again through out the boook which made it boring to read . I baught this book because its foreworded by Jon Kinn but it did not have his style. I also did not like the cheap white paper its printed on , it feels like a cheap copy that somone made at home with a photocopy mahcine.

  2. This is the Second Edition of this book; one I've been waiting for for a while. I saw the first edition of this book when it was loaned to me by a staffer at a "facility" I found myself in a while back and to say it helped me save my life would be a severe understatement. The simple concept of Mindfulness struck me like a ton of bricks. This is not a book to borrow from your friendly local library, this is a book to get and hold. A book to change your life. Very readable, almost a fun read, were it not doing so much change to my anxious mind in the process. Buy this book, read it, live it and get rid of that pesky anxious mind you've been living with all these stress laden years. It really does help make life fun again!

  3. Jeffrey seems earnest in his desire to help others which makes for an inviting read. His book touches a bit on some modern trends in psychology then ties those learnings to the Buddhist concept of mindfulness gained through meditation. If you want to get the benefits of mindfulness without having to learn or agree with some of the other principles of Buddhism this is a fine book. Unlike Eckhart Tolle, who has recently put out a best seller covering much of the same ground, Jeffrey's book is for people that want less wo wo and more substance in addition to instruction on how to get on the right path. I believe the best book I have read on this subject is still, "Mindfulness in Plain English" by Gunaratana. If you could only buy and read one I suggest Gunaratana. If you have time to read both then read both. In fact read many, along with your practice of course.

  4. this is a great book for the layman and it has helped me understand things about depression and already feeling better

  5. This book is great. I love Brantley's style. He makes the information easy to digest and interesting to read. Best of all he shares personal stories along the way wherein HE USES HIS OWN MEDICINE: I especially liked the hot air balloon ride!
    thank you Brantley-

5 comments about How to Make Anyone Fall in Love with You.
  1. I purchased this book and the online instant view. The instant view wasnt worth the $2.00 because you cant print or save.

The book is good, though i havent read much of it.

I have one complaint. The book isnt an easy read. Usually you must read 4 or 5 pages to understand the authors point or seduction tip. I really would have prefered a short, to the point, version of this book. She gives 100 or 200 seduction tips, but then she talks on and on about stories or the details on why it may work etc. Some of her conclusions are speculative.

  2. Ok, so I had great hopes for this book, but was worried because the title promised a lot. Actually, its a great book just to make you a better person. It teaches you how to be a better person, to improve your people skills and draw people to you. I can see how it can help you be a better and more likeable person and draw people to you and like you, then some may fall in love with you. I wish the title were different because it sorts of limits the audience with its name.

  3. This book focuses on what to do / say when you're around members of the opposite sex in the hope that they will fall in love with you.

The book offers insightful information and key points to helping encourage and foster a relationship with someone. Many of the things suggested actually work (from personal experience) and do help you get closer to the people you care about. Some of the techniques include finding commonalities and really listening to the person. Using the techniques offered could, I would argue, help you improve your relationship with others (family members, relatives, etc) in your life not just your love interest.

Honestly, though, the only thing I found misleading is the title. You can't MAKE people fall in love with you. This book will definitely help you hold and encourage interest, but if the person's not into you, then there's not a lot you can do to change their mind (see "He's Just Not That Into You").

Overall, the book is well worth the money and really does offer great perspective and insight. You won't be disappointed.

  4. This book was amazing! A guy friend of mine had given me some tips from it years ago and recommended I should read it. I finally got around to buying it a couple of months ago and finally sat down to read it. It offered great tips about communication and gender differences. I often found myself reading the sections geared towards men and thinking "Yes! That's exactly how I would like a guy to act!" So I have faith that the sections that are geared towards women are accurate in their suggestions. In fact, I have toyed around with some of the ideas she gives and they honestly worked. I'm sure it isn't the ONLY reason that the guy fell for me, but it certainly helped! I 100% recommend this book for girls AND guys. Even for those of you who are skeptical or not looking for love, it still brings to the table some really interesting sociologial studies and impressive facts! Happy Reading!!

  5. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It provided keen insight into the dating/mating process. The chapters are divided into relevant topics and the author has a unique writing style that draws the reader into the content. Very helpful and fun.

5 comments about Empty Cradle, Broken Heart, Revised Edition: Surviving the Death of Your Baby.
  1. Thorough, but needed something more to help me thru the death of my infant daughter.

  2. Our first child, our son Wyatt, was stillborn and it has been the most devastating event of our entire lives. I bought this book after a fellow angel parent recommended it and absolutely loved it. It is so "nice" to see all the thoughts and feelings you have after losing a child right there in print. It makes you realize you're not going crazy, that those thoughts and feelings are legitimate, and that you are not alone. I carried this book everywhere with me and would highlight phrases that were personal to me. It really helped me understand the loss of our son and give me strength and courage to go on with our lives while still keeping his memory alive. I'm so sorry to those of you having to look at this book, but I hope it can help you as much as it has helped me.

  3. After our son was stillborn in April of 2006, we were looking for any support we could find. We went to the beach and I read this book out loud to my husband cover to cover in 1 day. Everything we were feeling was covered in this book. It was to the point and very validating. We referred to this book daily. I have purchased several of these for our support group and the hospital where our son was born. We felt like this was something parents should leave with and for that matter a book the nursing and hospital staff should have as required reading. During our darkest days this book helped us work through the many emotions that come with the death of a child. If you have suffered the same fate or know someone who has I highly recommend this book.

  4. After our fourth daughter was stillborn January 2008, I thought that no one or nothing could relate to how I felt. I was wrong after I read this book. This book accurately describes
my feelings of guilt, helplessness, fears, etc. It is very comforting to know that I am not crazy for thinking the way I do.I have read a lot of books on this subject (which is so sad for it happens way too often to so many people) but this one is the best so far. I am going
to recommend it to a local hospital for anyone who (god forbid), has this tragic event in their lives as well. Deb Davis writes knowing my thoughts
and my questions, realizing at the same time that we will never know the answer why after 36 healthy weeks, her spirit was chosen to leave this earth. I love you so much...... and miss you...... we will meet again someday.

  5. I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend after the loss of my son, which was the culmination of a series of increasingly cruel and difficult miscarriages. More than any other book, this one helped me sort through all of my losses and deal with the grief and make some sort of sense of it. I especially liked how the book, although it has a religious tone, isn't overly preachy and the chapter for husbands was also something my husband thought was good. I have passed my copy on to a friend who lost her son, but since then have encountered a number of friends and colleagues who, sadly, also have had similar experiences. I have taken to having an extra copy at all times so that when a friend does open up to me about a loss (I'm very open about my son) I have one to pass on.
