5 comments about Heal Your Headache: The 1-2-3 Program for Taking Charge of Your Pain.
- I was AMAZED.... I have my life back.... simple solutions to a complex problem... an ENT doc told me about this book after evaluating me for my crazy "sinus" issues.... turns out.... there is nothing wrong with my nose and I am NOT allergic to anything.....
100% HAPPY!
MIGRAINE FREE IN MD.
- This book helped me realize I was only making my headache problem worse with the "quick fix". It is not an easy program to follow but it is making a difference. Some of the assertions may sound a bit much but overall it works.
- This book helped me tremendously with migraine associated vertigo. Within a week I felt better just by dietary changes.
- A friend loaned me her copy of this book. I have since bought two copies...one for me and one that I gave to my doctor. I have been doing the diet in the book for 4 months now, and I haven't had any migraines. I was having 4 to 5 a month. I got off my Topamax and my birth control pills, and I stopped taking Imitrex. I feel like a new person. Thank goodness for this book. I don't know what I would have done without it! I loaned it to a friend, and it has helped her too. Just try it....you have nothing to lose!
- I started getting migraines on a daily bases, and purchased every book I could on the subject. This was the only book that really helped me. VERY useful stuff.

- I am giving this book a tentative 4-star rating because I really wish I had gotten this book instead of some other bad book that came better rated than this one. Even though I have yet to read it (I am now going to buy it in-store), by visiting Marie's free supplemental website I can really see how her tips and methods can work... her theory of telling one's-self, for example that "this is it" and "this is what I want" in life, at every challenging situation or mind-numbing social event, I have already learned to make the best of whatever situation I am in, instantly making myself more relaxed, positive, outgoing and most importantly potentially charming (and dare I say irresistable) to the opposite sex.
If you are skeptical like I am to spend money on a product like this that might not work, might leave you discouraged or waste your time with tips you could come up with yourself, visit her website and see for yourself rather than taking these comments at face-value. Also know however that some of her tips are "common knowledge" meaning, you can probably find versions of her advice on other websites or wikis. Like every self-help thingy, you have to take the author's advice with a grain of salt; no book is going to be a "cure-all", nor will a title (especially as provocative as Marie's) really, truly be the most appropriate category for the material inside (even Marie admits in the preface that she used the title just to catch your attention). With Marie's book and a little bit of practice (!) I really think I can make some improvements to my social life!
- I realized that my girlfriend was unknowingly following Marie's advice when we'd met, and for all of the time we've been together. That is why we have such a perfect, fun-filled relationship and are known among our friends as the "perfect couple."I also recommend my favorite book about love I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't
- I enjoyed reading this book, the title really grabs you. It was upbeat and easy to read. And what a concept, get your own life and men will be more drawn to you!!
- To be honest everyone thought I had the ultimate dream lifestyle and, on the face of it, I did! But the trouble was I always knew deep down, I wasn't truly happy. I knew there was more to life. Your book gave me the direction to face up to the challenge of improving my inner needs. So I applied the tips and now my life has the meaning that I was searching for. Everyone around me has noticed the difference, but of course I haven't told them the secrets!
- Found this to be a fun and easy to read book, excellent advice for any female who cares enough to read & improve their dating skills.

5 comments about The Power of Focus: What the Worlds Greatest Achievers Know about The Secret of Financial Freedom and Success.
- Good book, it fills some gaps for me, setting goals for example I never knew the detail that was required. At $11.oo worth it!
- This is a great book. I read it until the covers fell off and then read it again. It gives you steps to take not vague theories.
John M. Rowley "Author Climb YOUR Ladder of Success Without Running out of Gas!"
- I have a library with hundreds of books in it. If I were told I could only keep 10 books, this would be one of them. If you are a manager of other people, you must read this book. Then find a way to share it with others. You will find a powerful chapter related to goal setting and performance. " If you do not set goals, someone else will set them for you" The book goes on to tell the story of a man who was a dentist and hated his work. He said that his mother wanted him to be a dentist so she chose his education and career path. Now as an adult male, he hated his work and confessed he never wanted to be a dentist. I see people every day who are trapped in jobs they never wanted or doing things they dont want to do simply becuase they failed to understand the pinciples in this book. There is much more content than just goal setting. There are powerfull tools to help you with time managment, decision making, and sections to help you discover who you are and what you really should be doing with your skills and talents. I recommend that you find the following book as a companion to this one: " Focusing Your Life" by Bobb Biehl
- Sometimes in life, you find a real gem. Like the moment when you knew without any doubt you had found the person you would spend your life with. If you have never read THE POWER OF FOCUS by Canfield, Hanson and Hewitt, you just stumbled across one of life's little gems. This book has the ability to unleash the greatness within you that has been there all along, just waiting to be unleashed.
Don't get me wrong, you're not going to read this book and have your life miraculously change. I believe the authors say it best in their final words. "All the strategies we have shared with you really work. They can dramatically change your life for the better. But only if you choose to use them".
The book focuses on ten strategies to help you reach your maximum potential in your business, personal and financial life. Some of these strategies may sound simplistic to you at first, but putting deodorant on a fever blister to draw out the moisture sounds simplistic too. The point is, simple can often achieve the results your looking for. There's no sense in over-complicating things.
Each of the ten strategies are outlined in their own chapter and followed by practical "action steps" to coach you along. You will find other exercises as well. I recommend buying this book along with a spiral notebook. You'll need it.
If you're ready to take actionable steps in improving every aspect of your life, this book is definitely for you.
Pastor Monty Rainey
- A scattered person rarely attains the goals he or she is seeking. Using the simple strategies in this book you will learn to harness the power of focus and quickly attain goals and results you have been searching for. It is a must read for people seeking success of any kind. Make Today Great! Tom Beal

5 comments about Letters to a Young Sister: DeFINE Your Destiny.
- I especially think women should get this for thier daughters, and a second copy for themselves. It is amazing and easy to relate to. But, I don't want it to be written off as a book for kids, I'm 25 and WOW! While somethings don't relate to me specifically, I can reflect on those choices I made or watched my friends make. I took a closer look at me and ask questions and was really truthful with myself. Also, for those ladies that feel there is something missing; while he dosen't tell you what your missing, if you follow the little steps he suggest you to do (no matter how silly you feel doing them)you will figure it out on your own..and that feeling that your waiting for is so much more amazing when it comes from yourself and it's not someone telling you what THEY feel you should/shouldn't do. Anyway, I'm a pretty strong-minded female and this book did put somethings into perspective for me, about me. I'm appreciative of that. I wish him much success, he has done an amazing job. Little by little you'll find your way! God Bless....GOD BLESS
- This book is great.....I'm almost finished with it and I haven't even had it for 2 weeks! This is the first book I've read from Hill Harper, but it's excellent and a very easy read as well.
- Hill Harper it the epitomy of everything I want in a man, and I am elated that he has appreciation enough for young women of color to write such a book that addresses our concerns and questions as we come of age.
- Having already read "Letters to a Young Brother", I was very excited to see that Hill Harper decided to expand upon his vision and write a book for young women. The message, the inspiration, and the obvious care and affection Hill expresses for today's youth needs to reach as many youth as possible. His books should be found in every school library around the country and beyond. Teenagers and pre-teens face more changes in their lives than ever before and Hill teaches them how to rise above the challenges and inspires them to reach their potential. I, for one, am very grateful for his vision.
- Through this book, my 15-year-old and I have both learned tons-of-things about ourselves and each other. I even bought a copy for my 19-year-old niece. It's an excellent read for the young and young-at-heart. Thanks, Hill!

5 comments about Six Thinking Hats.
- This is a short, easy-read book. Chapters are small with an introduction and summary to each colored hat.
De Bono not only criticizes our way of thinking, but gives a solution for a more productive thinking. While most successful people believe that they are competent at thinking and make no efforts to improve; De Bono presents a brilliant new method to tackle any problem that can be present during a decision making process.
His methodology is so simple that there are no theories, principles or models in the book. Overall this is an essential read for anybody interested in improving their thinking and facilitators running brainstorming sessions.
I found this book very useful and the time I spend reading it worth while. The method in the book of using six ways of looking at something, the six thinking hats does work in real life and gives benefit. I sincerely recommended it.
- Edward De Bono's Six Thinking Hats is a quick read.
I thought it was redundant and could have been half
as long. I Was bored at times. De Bono's Six Hat Method
was intentionally designed to be simple. that is the beauty of it.
The six thinking hats can very easilily be applied to a meeting
in order to really get things moving and that is extremely valuable.
i believe people should read this book, not because its a good book,
but because what De Bono demonstrates is a very powerful toolway tool.
-Rogelio Potash
CPP
- The Six Thinking Hats is an easy to learn and apply, but powerful method to group decision making. Edward De Bono's common sense approach is both refreshing and insightful.
The Six Thinking Hats helps people use both their left and right brains efficiently by separating them into compartments (Thinking Hats). In other words, De Bono teaches how to achieve a strong Left Brain, Right Brain Crossover.
Each of the hats uses part of the left, or the right brain.
* The White Hat addresses facts and data -Left Brain
* The Red Hat addresses emotions - Right Brain
* The Black Hat addresses the weaknesses in ideas- Left Brain
* The Yellow Hat is hopeful and positive - Right Brain
* The Green Hat addresses creativity -Right Brain
* The Blue Hat is concerned with control -Left Brain
By separating thought patterns into compartments De Bono argues convincingly it is easier to come to rational conclusions for solving problems based on all aspects of the brain. In the Conclusion of the book he states:
"The biggest enemy of thinking is complexity, for that leads to confusion. When thinking is clear and simple, it becomes more enjoyable and more effective. The Six Thinking Hats concept is very simple to understand. It is also very simple to use."
Overall a fascinating and useful thinking tool for solving problems!
The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking
- This book discusses six thinking hats. They each have a different color and they each stand for a different fundamental perspective or approach to a problem or issue.
The book discusses how this construct can be used in group meetings where each person is assigned a role. For example, the positive viewpoint would be a person just pointing out all the positives. The other viewpoints include emotional viewpoint, the negative viewpoint, a viewpoint concerning rules of the process, etc.
The reason I liked the book is that it goes into detail on why approaching a problem, an issue or an opportunity should be done by utilizing a multitude of viewpoints. This ensures better thinking.
I thought the book was excellent and highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning to be a better overall critical thinker.
- While it is an artificial construct, the six hats described in this book can be a significant tool for fostering understanding of multiple facets of any problem and the particular dispositions people may have toward solving them. I am looking forward to using this concept in my fall courses to help students construct new knowledge.

5 comments about Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised.
- I have read several different publishings of Think and Grow Rich, and I am happy to say it was nice to discover this particular copy. You may not know, but in 1960 Napoleon Hill did a rewrite of his manuscript and the results left much of the original text deleted. Here, in this production, we have his ORIGINAL text from the 1937 edition. There are two other things I really appreciate about this version. First, the book is fully annotated and indexed. This is a helpful feature for those of us who study this book after the first read. Then, finally, the information, in terms of monetary figures, has been revised to read in todays dollar values which enhances the process of understanding when relating 1937 information to todays standards. Overall, I feel that this is an excellent version of Napoleon Hills classic manuscript, Think and Grow Rich.
- great for idiots who think they are smart,
a lot of scientific studies in this book have been proven false..
you cant get rich with this stuff, go to college instead,
also get books written by CEO's with years of experience
instead of by some loser that was exploited by Dale Carnegie
... yeah it all makes sense now doesn't it
- A classic. Principles of getting rich are mentioned. Even though I didn't get rich, it did help me achieve
another goal.
Topics like Desire, Faith, Autosuggestion and Specialized Knowledge
are all essential to get rich. I do feel something is missing
from this book. Great violinists and pianists can also be
rich but I don't think they have to begin with the first chapter:
Desire (for money). They simply have a temperament, gift,
and passion for music. Because the perform well in their
professions, the money comes in naturally.
This book might have made some people rich but I don't
think it's the only way. To be fair, no reading of any single
book can make you rich. You need to have understanding,
practice, and application of what you've read - together
with other books.
I am not rich yet so I give this classic 3 stars.
Besides, "The mystery of sex transmutation" is no longer a
mystery. The male reproductive system and the brain both
compete for the same protein tyrosine (with B6, copper,
iron etc). More tyrosine for one will deprive the other part
of the body - naturally.
- If you want an action tool to use to follow all the principles of this great book, read and apply Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook, you will not be disappointed. You will enjoy the combination of these 2 books.
- There is no such thing as a perfect book. People tend to see things in black and white, well there's nothing completely black or white; there's only shades of gray. You can get some good advice out of most books, even if a little. But there is no perfect book that presents you a complete and truthful view of the road to success.
Many books appear to be unreasonable in some of its content; but lucky us we are born with a powerful tool that helps us discern between what we should take and leave from a book: common sense. I should use it, and you probably should too.
This book is no exception. Personally, I would suggest that you read the first part of the book with a higher focus than the rest. It is very inspirational, and explain a success principle that, even though very common nowadays in other books, is still of major importance. For someone who hasn't read much of success books, these chapters are a good start.
The metaphysics and new age theories that Napoleon Hill proposes should be taken with a measure of healthy skepticism. To believe in them is a personal choice, and you should use your common sense to decide.
To people that has read many success books before, this book proposes nothing new. Though I should state this around, as this book came first than most of the others. It basically tells how you need to have a burning desire to achieve success, and have faith that you will succeed. Mostly, it presents this with an inspirational tone; so if you're looking to get your spirit up, try it.

5 comments about A Guide to Rational Living.
- This review is directed to anyone deciding whether to purchase this book and also read this book. Save your time and your money; there are books far better than this one. I don't agree with any of the 5 star ratings people gave this book. The authors are writing from an ego-centered perspective; they are critical of the patients they use in examples, and they are critical of readers in that they don't believe any of us are able to "self-help" correctly. If we are not able to self-help, it is because they do not explain how in this book.
- I have never posted a review on this site before despite buying hundreds of books. I purchased this book about two months ago because of severe anxiety issues. I have recieved immediate benefits from it. The concept of awfulizing has truly changed my outlook on my entire thought process. While I know I have a long road to follow I believe this book has put me on the right track. I would highly recommend giving this book a try if you are dealing with depression or anxiety. Best of luck.
- if i could make it a law that this book be read by everyone, i would. basically, ellis and harper teach us how to understand that it is up to us whether we want to be happy. it is all within our reach. all it depends upon is our thoughts and what we tell ourselves. you can be truly happy, enjoying your life, no matter where you have been, no matter what is going on!
the authors use many examples via their clients' lives to show their readers how to live a happy, rational life.
seamingly over-simplified! but truly amazing! liberating! and awesome! when you actually do live this way.
- If you are going to read one self-help book in your life, this is it. Ellis has changed my life completely. No more anger, much less anxiety and depression, and a greater acceptance of myself and others. Nothing more to ask...
- Ancient as it may be (orginally published in 1961) in a field where "current" almost always means "superior owing to more recent discovery," Ellis's -Guide...- is the bomb if you're going to -do- cognitive, evidence-based therapy, as either a therapist or a patient.
His ten screwy ideas are nothing short of the unfortunate attitudinal watershed of the decline of Western culture. Identified, questioned, examined, uprooted and replaced with more realistic -- and functional -- notions, they can become the foundation for a belief and appraisal system by which anyone can cope with pretty much any curve ball life pitches at them.
However radical, as well as grandiosely expressed some of his ideas may seem; Basco, Beck, Seligman, Wessler, Young and all who have ridden on his coattails owe a debt to Albert... not to mention the millions whose lives have been saved and/or greatly improved by disovering for themselves how things really -are-... as opposed to what they -think- they are.
There are a lot of Ellis-authored books available, but having read several of them (as well as many of Aaron Beck's), it seems to me that this one stands out as the seminal piece for professional and lay readers alike. This is Ellis at his no-holds-barred, free-wheeling, no-nonsense best.

5 comments about Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within.
- This book has been so much help to me, especialy when I get writer's block. A friend recommended this book to me years ago. Unfortunately, I did not buy it until recently. I also write poetry and this book has been very useful to me not only for writing in general, but also for writing poetry.
- I'm a freelance creative and sometimes (ok, often) need to be reminded why I write. And that I actually love it way, way more than I hate it. Natalie Goldberg's teeny pocket book is perfect motivation for any writer of any genre including the personal journal. This is a written from a personal, vulnerable place as we get a clear sense of her personal struggles/triumphs. Best of all, every chapter has a strong tug to action with suggested topics to get the brain moving and a little infusion of euphoria that sends me right to my journal or computer. Because of its size I leave it out where I can always see it. I take it with me every time I travel. If you love to/want to/have to write, Natalie Goldberg's book will keep your brain from freezing or frying. Any time I want to get my creative flow, I grasp for my well-worn copy to be reminded that wherever I am in my writing, that's exactly where I belong. I feel inspired. I feel excited. This is a big deal, because I have nearly every book there is on the subject. Writing Down the Bones is the only one of those books that never goes back on the shelf. Ever.
- This book really inspired me to try my hand at writing and I was very impressed with the candidness and accessibility of the author's style. I'm sure like many others, it made me want to take a class with her in New Mexico. I spent a small fortune to do so, over a thousand dollars for a week long seminar. Save your money and stay home and just write. She is NOTHING like her books in person. She was a narscissitic, self-absorbed whiner, who spent exactly two hours a day in front of the class reading to us from her own notebooks. The rest of the time she told us to do writing practice. When she wasn't swaning around the classroom like a diva, she was slobbering over one of the young students in class, obviously in the midst of some torrid affair. It was embarassing for all of us. I left feeling completely ripped off, so much so that I almost stopped writing! The book should come with a warning label: Do as I say, not as I do.
- This book has striaght forward instructions for the would be writer. I purchased it to give me incentive on how to journal, write in general and write an autobiography. Natalie Goldberg suggests everything from what type of pen to use to the kind of environment you may choose to surround yourself in while attempting to write. It is simple straight forward suggestions. Don't buy it, however, if you need technical information like how to footnote or set up your pages. It isn't that type of book. It writes as if someone is speaking to you.
- That's How the Light Gets In: Memoir of a Psychiatrist by Susan Rako, M.D. The title comes from a song by Leonard Cohen: "There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." Rako's book is remarkably candid, insightful, and wonderfully well-written. It's a great read. The writing just flows.

5 comments about I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye (Updated Edition): Surviving, Coping and Healing After the Sudden Death of a Loved One.
- I read this book to help me cope with the sudden death of a loved one. It was somewhat helpful, but it mainly covered the same information in another book I read in a much less comprehensive manner. That book is How to Go on Living When Someone You Love Dies by Therese Rando and I highly recommend reading that book. It is the best I have read on the topic of grief/death/mourning. These authors had good intentions, but I think you will get more out of the Rando book.
- I bought this for a friend who had lost her husband. She thanks me all the time for the book. She said it was well written and helped her a lot throughout her grieving.
- I liked this book and would recommend it for anyone who has lost someone suddenly or for anyone who wants to understand what that person is going through. The authors speak from personal experiences and offer different perspectives on how people experience sudden loss. The book goes into the stages of grieving and then discusses how others are affected when they loose a parent, child, partner, sibling etc... The book includes exercises for dealing with the grieving process. There is also a workbook available with more tools for dealing with this type of loss.
- This book touched on a lot of helpful topics following the loss of a loved one. I gave the book as a gift to my mother when my father passed and she found some comfort and guideance from this selection.
- I highly recommend this book to anyone who has to make sense of living through this difficult time. It follows a timeline from the death time and assists the reader to make sense of what has had to be dealt with. The advice is practical yet lovingly given. The book covers all the situations that may have to be encountered; in my case the suicide of an adult son. I found the information helpful and comforting. As a family we have used it and found it invaluable for us all as we adjust to the sudden loss of a loved one. The authors have rendered 'normal' our responses to such a tragedy. Within that, we are not alone.

5 comments about Feelings Buried Alive Never Die.
- The title is appropiate for the information inside. The book not only informs a person who, what, why, where a person with buried feelings struggle in life, but shows you a solution to resolving the inner conflict, enabling you to return or possibly gain for the first time the peace inside we all desire.
- This is the first book the author wrote about feelings, which caused me to purchase her follow up book on "Healing Feelings from the Heart". I really like both these books. Feelings Buried Alive gives you a list of feelings and where they are found in the body. For those of us in the natural health and inner healing community, this kind of information is invaluable. It is a book that you need to glean from because you may not agree with all aspects of what the Author is saying, but its worth having in your library for reference.
- Another book showing how emotions we bottle up and bury are still in us--not forgotten--and can cause us physical pain. A method for getting rid of the hurts/emotions is The Script contained in this book. Useful charts with physical pain and possible emotional causes that are at minimum food for thought! Also word association section which is great for reference. I also appreciate that spirituality plays a large role.
I believe there is a personal "readiness" factor (which has to do with anyone rating a mind/body book negatively). Some are just not ready to hear this kind of stuff yet. Some would say in disbelief "what! my knee hurts because I'm inflexible?" yet it makes so much sense! Westerners are conditioned to think that every pain is structural in origin, which is simply not true. I've had my own pain that was indeed healed by emotional healing. It takes effort to get rid of these feelings, but it's so worth it!
I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it (yes, there are some typos esp. at the beginning). Invaluable information.
- I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It is a great way to clear unwanted baggage out of you life and it teaches the importance of our words and thoughts.
- I loved this book primarily for it's descriptions in the back portion which describes which body parts are affected by what emotions. A helpful tool in determining how your emotions and feelings manifest in the physical form.
