5 comments about Emotional Vampires: Dealing With People Who Drain You Dry.
  1. Overall, the information about these types of people is great. But the book focuses almost entirely on encountering these types in the work place, not in personal life. I deal with a histrionic cousin, who maintains her blond hair and Jaguar, while crying to me that she doesn't have enough money for food or medicine. Her non-stop need for me to take care of her has drained me. While I was able to get a lot of understanding from the chapter on histrionic vampires, I had to take the workplace solutions offered and try to tailor them to personal life. I would have liked the book better if it dealt with both personal and professional types and offered solutions for both.

And I do agree with the others that he does take the vampire analogy too far. It seems to me he almost felt obligated to talk about vampires when it wasn't appropriate to do so.

  2. This review is about an apparent manufacturing or publisher defect: pages 37 to 84 are missing! They are not ripped out of the book, they are simply not there. I did not start reading it and get to page 37 until after the Amazon 30-day return period was over, so I've had to go thru a rigmarole with Customer Service about how to replace the book, ship back the other one, get a refund, etc. Very frustrating. Also, the customer service dept at Amazon classified this as a "damaged in shipment" problem, although I did my best to explain it's a publishing problem. So now how do I know when they send me the replacement book, the pages will not also be missing. I highly recommend the book, but get it at your local bookshop or if you buy from Amazon, check those pages right away.

  3. It seems that this book is simply negative. If you are so concerned about these "insane crazy people" then get away from them. Reading a book while imagining these people seems extremely obsessive and histrionic in itself.

  4. Good read for the lay person in plain english. You need to read this so you can keep yourself from falling into the Vampire's trap.

  5. When I found myself needing to gently and tactfully extricate myself from the emotionally draining clutches of a close friend of a few years, I tried explaining to her that I no longer felt able to be everything she seemed to need (i.e., I could no longer continue to receive her weeping two-hour telephone calls out of the blue at 2 or 3 a.m., among other things). I was both surprised and relieved when this caused her to decide I was the spawn of Beelzebub and to cut me completely out of her life (as the author predicted would probably happen). (And as the author also assured, she quickly found herself a replacement "host" ...)

This was a first for me in 50-some years of life, and afterward, I discovered and read "Emotional Vampires." I was both amused and amazed as I read about Histrionic Vampires, feeling absolutely certain that the author had followed my former friend around for at least a month, so detailed and accurate was his description of her ... from her charm and entertaining humor, to her need to be the center of attention in all situations, to her very exact words ("You're the *only* one I can talk to"), to her frequent references to the physical ravages of ("malevolent") yeast. This book was a godsend and made me feel vindicated in some way. If you deal with any very difficult person, especially one you're unable to disconnect from easily (like family), and you can feel yourself being drained incessantly, I highly recommend that you read this book!

5 comments about Sex and the Perfect Lover: Tao, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra.
  1. Sex and the Perfect Lover is a guide for those who wish a relationships with love pleasure, and intimacy, This is by far the best book I have ever read. The style of the book is easy, clear and perfect to understand and the illustrations of the kamasutra are excellent. The exercises and illustrations are creative, playful, and unusual, such as rewriting a recipe in sexual imagery to create an appetizing and erotic plan.
I've shared it with some friends. I'm definitely going to give a copy of this book to my friends.

  2. Extremely well done. I've read just about everything out there as a psychiatrist and as a person with special interest in human sexuality. The author has created a user-friendly book that is easy to read yet thorough. This book is one of the best.

  3. The Romantic's Guide for its creative tips and ideas on building passion through romance.
This book reminds us that in order to achieve Ecstasy we need only to look within. Containing enough information to keep any couple or individual engrossed for years, Sexual Energy Ecstasy is a priceless investment.
Magnificently written and illustrated. Any couple who adopts their techniques will expand their relationship far into the joyous state of Sex and Love. I'd recommend you as the best gift that you can give.

  4. I ordered this book for a friend who gave me money for it. The book NEVER showed up. I contacted the seller about it and never got a response. I contacted Amazon. They are looking into the matter. I WANT MY BOOK, or my money back.

  5. In the moment that i got this book I read it cover to cover.
Also, i find it so powerful and insightful that I decide to give as gifts to my friends.
It is unique and amazing book I'd highly recommend it to single people, and to people in a relationship for ever.

5 comments about Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised.
  1. A classic. Principles of getting rich are mentioned. Even though I didn't get rich, it did help me achieve
    another goal.

Topics like Desire, Faith, Autosuggestion and Specialized Knowledge
are all essential to get rich. I do feel something is missing
from this book. Great violinists and pianists can also be
rich but I don't think they have to begin with the first chapter:
Desire (for money). They simply have a temperament, gift,
and passion for music. Because the perform well in their
professions, the money comes in naturally.

This book might have made some people rich but I don't
think it's the only way. To be fair, no reading of any single
book can make you rich. You need to have understanding,
practice, and application of what you've read - together
    with other books.

I am not rich yet so I give this classic 3 stars.

Besides, "The mystery of sex transmutation" is no longer a
mystery. The male reproductive system and the brain both
compete for the same protein tyrosine (with B6, copper,
iron etc). More tyrosine for one will deprive the other part
    of the body - naturally.

  2. There is no such thing as a perfect book. People tend to see things in black and white, well there's nothing completely black or white; there's only shades of gray. You can get some good advice out of most books, even if a little. But there is no perfect book that presents you a complete and truthful view of the road to success.

Many books appear to be unreasonable in some of its content; but lucky us we are born with a powerful tool that helps us discern between what we should take and leave from a book: common sense. I should use it, and you probably should too.

This book is no exception. Personally, I would suggest that you read the first part of the book with a higher focus than the rest. It is very inspirational, and explain a success principle that, even though very common nowadays in other books, is still of major importance. For someone who hasn't read much of success books, these chapters are a good start.

The metaphysics and new age theories that Napoleon Hill proposes should be taken with a measure of healthy skepticism. To believe in them is a personal choice, and you should use your common sense to decide.

To people that has read many success books before, this book proposes nothing new. Though I should state this around, as this book came first than most of the others. It basically tells how you need to have a burning desire to achieve success, and have faith that you will succeed. Mostly, it presents this with an inspirational tone; so if you're looking to get your spirit up, try it.

  3. The lessons I have learned in Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich have changed my life forever. Once I learned how to change my thoughts and dreams into burning desires, it seemed there wasn't anything I couldn't achieve. Truly the best!

  4. First off - I tell everyone who wants to make money with his
or her own business online to read this book. The reason is
because it's easy to find and contains solid principles
which most business beginners and salespeople are ignorant
of - or at least too intellectually lazy to remember and
    apply.

Very few people actually bother to read the book. I
actually use this book as a litmus test for people I coach.
I tell them to read it before we do anything. Most of
them just slink away - their desire to make money online
is so feeble they cannot be bothered to spend a few
    hours reading a PDF.

While the vast majority of people who actually read the
book will apply it weakly if at all - at least readers
have been exposed, many for the first time in their lives,
to the principles which successful people practice,
whether they have read the book or not.

Read it a couple of times. You can download it easily
enough. That's why I recommend it. Tell a fellow he
must pay money for it or go somewhere to get it and
he will do nothing - give it to him in a link and then
he has it and can decide whether he will read it or not.
Most folks are, in my experience, too lazy to bother.

The book is written with hypnotic flair, though some of
the early chapters are dull. It is populated by stories
of successful industrialists, who I guess were the sorts
of guys businesspeople admired in 1937. Today we'll find
some of the values of Think and Grow Rich sort of old-
    fashioned.

The book's major thrust is the principle of autosuggestion,
which may have been a somewhat inventive idea in 1937.
It's just a theroy, so try it out by all means but just
understand that the book is 70 plus years old and we've
learned a lot about how we learn and change since then.
Personally I find the later stuff of Maxwell Maltz
and guys like Tony Robbins more relevant to us today -
but their books are under copyright and not to be shared
    freely as this one is.

  5. There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it.
    -Napoleon Hill

Napoleon Hill wrote the classic of best-seller on personal-success. This is the book that began the self-help industry. Study and master these timeless principles of success.

Hill was born into poverty and dedicated 25 years of his life to study and model successful men such as Charles Schwab, Theodore Roosevelt, and Henry Ford to discover the secret principles that would help the average man achieve great financial and emotional wealth.

5 comments about The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success.
  1. The Pathfinder: How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success.

The Pathfinder is the book I had been looking for and feared didn't exist; a quantum leap forward when it comes to navigating the angst-filled process of career change. Whether you are thinking of making a change because you are looking for something more fulfilling, or you are on the pointy end of the downsizing stick, this brilliant book is a resource you should not be without.

As a career and life coach myself, I should say that I don't think any book can quite substitute for having a real live coach in your corner to take you step by step through the process and help you to keep your commitments to yourself. Having said that, I think that the author Nick Lore, founder of the Rockport Institute ([...]) and one of the pioneers of career coaching, comes amazingly close here. Mr. Lore's writing style is in turn insightful, demanding and hilarious - and anyone who has looked for a job recently knows you need a sense of humor. The book makes you feel as if he's sitting across from you at your kitchen table, asking pointed questions and offering expert advice.

Intended to be a low-cost alternative to Rockport's amazingly successful Career Choice program where senior Rockport coaches guide and support clients all the way through to their goal of choosing a fulfilling and practical new career, the book works hard at instilling the reader with a sense of confidence that they can do this, and then shows them how. Many people have heard the adage, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time," but they forget that wisdom when they contemplate a major life change. People regularly condemn themselves to jobs they find just tolerable, and even to jobs they hate, because the process of finding something new feels too overwhelming. This book helps you break that huge decision "What should I do with my life?" into bite-sized pieces and shows you how to do it step-by-step.

At the heart of the Rockport approach is the core principle that what makes a career fit is that it fits you fully. Since author Lore coined the term "career coaching" in the 1980s, Rockport has used methods they created that are much more powerful and practical than most career counseling; methods that help people choose careers that provide both satisfaction and maximum success. They say that in order to have a job that has you singing in the shower in the morning, your work needs to fit you like a custom-made suit, making full use of your natural talents and abilities, fitting your personality, in work that is meaningful to you in an environment that supports you. This method is the heart of The Pathfinder.

Talents, work environment, job functions, and your own inner sense of purpose and many other areas all play a role in designing the perfect career, and the book tackles each in turn to help you decide what matters most to you. (If you are the sort who "wants to make a difference in the world", the chapter on Meaning, Mission and Purpose is worth the price of the book all by itself!)

Having read some of the negative reviews for this book - honestly, because I couldn't imagine why people didn't like it - I find that a lot of the complaints people had were that the book asks people to make "too many" lists or is somehow too introspective. The book does ask the reader to do a fair amount of work, in fact, on page one, the author writes, "I hope you will choose to be a participant and not just a reader." A lifetime of personal and work experience has taught me that if you are looking to other people to give you the answers as to what will make you happy, you are bound to be disappointed. If, however, you are looking for someone who has been down the road himself to give you a compass and a map, tell you what to watch out for and what shouldn't be missed, then The Pathfinder can definitely help you find your way.

For students and young adults under 30 I recommend Lore's new book, "Now What? The Young Person's Guide to Choosing the Perfect Career."

  2. Nicholas Lore's Pathfinder and Jay Levinson and David Perry's Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters are hands down the best books on the market for job seekers looking for a new job or changing careers. The two books have no parallel in both in-depth, up-to-date excellent knowledge and helpful strategies about every single step of the job-seeking experience. I recommend: Buy Pathfinder and Guerrilla Marketing, and don't buy What Color is My Parachute? which is overly general and vague in its terminology and outdated in its information by as least 20 years.

  3. I bought this book after coming across resume writing advice at the RockWell Institute website and reading reviews here at Amazon. I was given the impression that this book contains more resume writing advice plus formatting examples.

This is a fairly thick book and it is very useful for people, especially young people who want to find out what suit them best. However I was disappointed that the resume writing section has little more beyond what was freely available on their website.

Still I'll give it 4 stars for the help it can give. I am definitely keeping my copy for future reference. People who plan to read this book should be prepared to put in some hard work (in doing the exercises) to learn more about themselves.

  4. The author seems terribly insecure... Much of the first part is trying to convince you that the book will succeed in helping you find your true path... Enough already, let's get on with it!!

  5. The Pathfinder is the book in which you will find the answers to most of the questions you have when you are feeling lost in your carrer development. It enlightens the road to find a carrer thar really fits you. The language it uses, makes you feel the author is speaking directly to you, and knows exactly how you are feeling and all the situtions you may be facing at your present job. The moment you receive the book and start working with it, you will feel absolutely confident about having extraordinary and unique inborn habilities needed to achieve a life, and thus, a carrer full of joy and success.

  1. This book is just methods to try to manipulate people. Not terribly helpful. I'd recommend Winning Without Intimidation : How to Master the Art of Positive Persuasion in Today's Real World in Order to Get What You Want, When You Want It instead.

  2. Manipulation is very different from Influencing. Lieberman teaches how to influence situations to have a positive outcome. By understanding how the human mind works, you will be able to "Get anyone to do anything". His advice is useful everywhere from your home, to work. Even if you are stop by a cop for a traffic violation.

  3. I bought this book based on a reference in Secrets of the A Game by Logan Edwards. I originally purchased this book to help with attracting women, but I actually got much more out of it. Of course, it DID help out with attracting women, but also gave me a better perspective on interacting at work and with family. I highly recommend it.

  4. I read this book and found this guy to really know what he's talking about. I read and put into action many of the things I read to extraordinary success. After you read it you will be almost pushed to use the knowledge you learn and come back to it as a reference book.

  5. This book is filled with common sense advice and tactics you can put into action immedately - and they WORK!

5 comments about The Low Down on Going Down: How to Give Her Mind-Blowing Oral Sex.
  1. I've read many books on the techniques on going down. By far this is the best one I've ever spent my time on. It is specific with exercises and visual aids. I've reread it several times and found something to improve each time. If you wish to get good at going down this is the book to spend your money on.

  2. I didn't read the book but bought it for my man and can I just say, he went from a man who needed some guidance to a whiz, holy cow. He read the entire book, and the first time he performed oral on me after reading the book was amazing. I am more than pleased. He did tell me about the exercises you should be doing which sounded over the top to me. I mean, h*ll, I wouldn't expect him to do all these mouth exercises regularly, jeez. I think the book is well worth the money. Take it from a woman who couldn't "get there" in 20 mins of him trying to please. To getting then and then some in 5 mins!

  3. Is it too strong a statement to say that this book saved my relationship? My boyfriend wasn't always pleased with having to perform oral sex, so I bought him this book. Then he brought home Was that an earthquake? The Sensuous Couple's (Flip Over) Guide to Seismic Oral Sex! Now we are both happy pleasing each other. The content is rich and results oriented. The two authors provide a first class education on women pleasing men and men pleasing women. We loved both books (especially the flip over aspect) and now oral sex is FUN and not a chore for either one of us, whether on the giving or receiving end. Highest marks!

  4. My husband read this book (he picked it out himself!) and I have benefited from his research. Nothing earthshaking in the book but there were quite a few gems he (we) found useful to us.

  5. Guys, just read it. Without me giving real graphic & direct comments, just read it. No, just DO what it tells you. It'll help you and she'll be really happy you read it, but you don't have to tell her you did. Let her think you're a genius. Bought it for my hubby & he hasn't touched it. What's with you guys, anyway?

5 comments about Do What You Are: Discover the Perfect Career for You Through the Secrets of Personality Type.
  1. There is a very important section on what's called your Hierarchy of Functions that I believe is flawed. It works for Extrovert types (Exxx), but not for Introvert types (Ixxx). So if you're E, the book is fantastic. But if you're I, things go a little (not totally) haywire. You'll be able to tell because the description of your tendencies will be close, but a little off, and recommended career options won't seem to quite resonate with you. So you're left having to puzzle things out more on your own. Below is the flaw, if I'm not mistaken (a big if).

First, some background info: Your personality type determines your Hierarchy of Functions. A function is a type-preference, the relevant ones being S/N (concerning information intake) and T/F (concerning decision criteria). Your Hierarchy is some combination of these four functions. The hierarchy of functions is STATED to be in this order:
    (1) Dominant (greatest strength)
    (2) Auxiliary (secondary strength)
    (3) Third (secondary weakness, the converse of Auxiliary)
    (4) Fourth (greatest weakness, the converse of Dominant).
For example, if your personality type is ESFJ, then your Hierarchy is FSNT. If your personality type is ENTP, your Hierarchy is NTSF.

(Sidebar: From what I gather, your dominant function is determined by the last letter in your personality type (J/P) which basically concerns how you confront uncertainty, ambiguity, unknowns. For J's, dominant function is their decision criteria preference (T/F). For P's, dominant function is their information intake preference (S/N). This makes sense since J's like to resolve questions quickly and decisively, and have things orderly, so style of decision making is paramount for them. P's like to ruminate and decide only provisionally, leaving open options and possibilities, so style of information gathering is paramount for them.)

Complication: In addition to the above, everyone has what you might call a Public function and a Private function. Think of your public function as what you like to do with other people, how you like to interact with them, and (especially) what you like to talk with them about. Your Private function is what you like to think about or do when you're solo, what you tend to keep to yourself unless you've really thought things through and really know well the person you're communicating with. Now, Extroverts like to use their dominant function in public, and they prefer to keep their auxiliary function private. By contrast, Introverts like to keep their dominant function in the solo realm, and prefer using their auxiliary function in public.

Recall: The Hierarchy given in the book is a list of functions in this STATED order:
Dominant, Auxiliary, converse of Auxiliary, converse of Dominant.

However--and this is the flaw--the ACTUAL order they're listed in goes like this:
Public, Private, converse of Private, converse of Public.

What's the impact? For extroverts, this is no problem, since their dominant function is also their public function, and their auxiliary function is also their private function. So you'll get the same list whether you order functions using the STATED order, or whether you use the unstated ACTUAL order. But for Introverts, dominant and public functions aren't the same, and likewise for auxiliary and private functions. So, for example, if you're INFP, the book says your dominant function is F and you like to keep that private, but really it's your auxiliary function that you like to take public. And it says your auxiliary function is N and you like to take that public, but really that's your dominant function that you like to keep private. Confusion on this point would create problems for you if you went out and tried to interact with others on the basis of N. First off, doing that in public makes you uncomfortable. Second, you wouldn't be interacting with others the way you prefer, on the basis of F.

The upshot is that the Hierarchy the book gives for your personality type should be understood as listing functions in this order: Public, Private, converse Public, converse Private. It actually makes sense to list your public function first in a book about choosing a career, given that a career typically involves getting paid to perform a function for other people.

  2. I recruit, train, and develop independent contractors and employees. To develop a person costs me personal time and money.

When I started it was luck, not science. Now, job matching is much easier because I understand this information.

Now, we have a real discussion in interviews and not a turn my weakness into strengths - hide and seek.

When an applicant already knows it we are near Win/Win or No Fit.

If the applicant has no idea, it is a perfect screening line of question.

With this information both the employer and employee are involved in discovering the best fit. If a Fit both understand how to capitalize on strengths and minimize weaknesses. If No Fit no one is disappointed by the usefulness of the information.

If you do not know your type - good luck in finding happiness in work. You can waste you life thinking this time will be better or you can find the right fit.

  3. Great insight for those who might want an idea of what they might want to do in life!

  4. Having recently taken an authentic MBTI (Myers-Briggs) assessment and experiencing some "what should I do when I grow up" anxiety lately (I'm 31, haha), this book was a great tool for my search. A large portion of the book is spent determining your MBTI type and then digging deeper into your type and what it actually means. There are 16 different types, and each type has its own chapter, so if you're put back by the size of the book (really not that big anyway), don't worry...you probably will just read about your own type. If after reading this book, you're still a little unclear about what you want to do...check out "I Could Do Anything If I Only Knew What It Was" as an awesome follow-up.

  5. I bought this book as an additional Myers Briggs resource. I know it was designed to help people choose a job, but it is a great resource on personalities in general.

  1. This is a great book for anyone who suffers from migraines, and can help your family understand what is going on.

  2. I have had migraine since I was 12 and I am 34, that is 22 years of migraine. I get about 2-3 a week. So you'd think I'd know a lot about migraine. Not until I read this book!

After all this time, I have never had a Dr explain what happens when you get a migraine. Or why some medicines work for some people and not for others. After reading this book I look at my migraines in a different way and I have taken new steps using advice from the author to try to reduce the number of migraines I get.

I love this book and have been recommending it to everyone who has migraine!

  3. I suffer from migraines and even so, I was illuminated on pre-migraine symptoms and treatments. Dr. Bernstein offers advice based on her clinical experience with compassion.

  4. Excellent help for migraine sufferers written by a migraine sufferer and research physician. Explains new information on how, why we get migrains and gives excellent advise on cutting the frequency, duration and intensity of your migraines. I will be looking for a new neurologist after reading this.

  5. Outstanding book. Well written in terms the average lay person can understand. It has been very helpful.

5 comments about All the Rules: Time-tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right.
  1. I just got out of a relationship that wasn't going anywhere after 5 years. A friend at work let me borrow her "Rule Book" and I now have a different perspective towards dating again. I believe in it so much that I just ordered "ALL THE RULES'. Its all about getting back to OLD SCHOOL. I LOVE THIS BOOK

  2. I bought this book from a book store under the recommendation of a close friend, and I absolutely love it. I call it a love bible, and it has pretty much everything that you need to know about dating and men. The reason that it's called "time tested" is because it is the experiences of thousands and thousands of women over maybe a few centuries. Technology and society are evolving, but men are still men, and women are still women. After finishing reading the book shortly, some guys showed their interests in me. And guess what, I did not spot them or respond correctly although I've read the book. So I found out that I've always been attracted to the wrong type of men since I was 17. The thing is that when we are in a particular situation, we are very likely not able to analyze what's right and what's wrong; on the other hand, we might be able to tell our girlfriends that their boyfriends are cheating on them. So the best way to weed out the wrong men for you is to read the book and join a rules support group at the same time. Or talk to your girlfriends who believe in the rules. If you can't find either a girlfriend or a support group, then talk to your mother or grandmother. We might not like what they think or what they say at the moment, but they always turn out to be right 99% of the time. So most of all, I think this book is a must have for every woman. It does not tell you to be the person that you are not or to make things happen; instead, it teaches you self-respect and find who's the one for you! So overall, I give the book a five star rating!!! It is worth a lot more than the cost! Go and get a copy!!!

  3. This was probably the third time I read the original Rules and perhaps the second time that I read Rules II. Both parts of this book were worth a repeat.

Those who ribbed (and sometimes lampooned) the Rules did not seem to get the real point of it. This is not about strictly adhering to a list of items. It is about getting your own life so that you are not pre-occupied with men. It is about giving men limited priority so that you are not at their beck and call, which too often brings out the worst in them anyway.

If you cultivate appropriate self-esteem and your own interests, you will naturally live out the rules with having to make a deliberate effort to do so.

As you gain a better understanding of the male-female dynamic, your relationships with ALL men will improve, including family members, business associates, etc.

I appreciate the ground-breaking role that the original Rules played. It seemed to serve as a springboard from which other quality books were published that took the Rules dynamics even deeper.

This should be required reading for all females that are of an appropriate age.

  4. First, I want to start by saying my college writing class about HYPOCRISY is analyzing this text! If that does not give some hint as to the ridiculous nature of this book, I do not know what does. I will not explain all (because there are numerous) ways in which this text is ridiculous and hypocritical, but I will state a few. One of the funnier points I read today was when the text states, "there's a big difference between being mysterious and being deceptive". In the next paragraph they tell the reader to respond with, "I really haven't thought about it", if a man asks why your not married. Obviously you have thought about getting married if you bought this book, that is the whole point, isn't it? So, your saying that your not thinking about marriage even though you clearly are. But, didn't they just say don't be deceptive?

One of my other favorite parts is about how the books stress independence, females shouldn't rely on men. However, if we are counting on them to make all of the moves, even initiating the first conversation, then we are dependent. We are dependent on their actions and advances to get into a relationship. My favorite quote dealing with independence is, "instead, he becomes slightly jealous when she does her won thing". Personally, I think independence means that each partner enjoys doing things with and without the other. While they may enjoy a boys night out, I similarly want a girls night out. However, with the rules this independence is bad. I would feel extremely frustrated if I felt I couldn't be independent because every time I go out with friends my boyfriend/husband gets jealous. Also, while the book claims men like independent woman more, then why would the be jealous if a woman tries to be independent? Wouldn't it be a turn on or something? Also, I really don't want my boyfriend/husband to be so clingy that if I try to do something on my own he becomes distressed, because if that's true then the relationship definitely isn't going to work out.

Those are just some of my opinions. While there are many other reasons why this book is complete ridiculousness, I think I will stop there and let all the "intelligent" women ask themselves if they really are acting as intelligently as they think. And for the people considering this book, please don't be fooled and actually think about what the book is saying. Of course, I would never discourage a woman from buying the book for a good laugh, because it did put a smile on my face more than once.

  5. I am absolutely, 100% behind this book, its writers and all the rules girls out there! Until the rules came along I had no idea what I was doing wrong. I've always been cute, great body, smart, successful. I had no problem attracting men, but I just couldn't seem to get into a relationship with them. I figured out, from the rules, that I was being too available to the ones I liked and unavailable to the ones I didn't like, and of course, the ones I didn't like were crazy about me! What a revelation. Just a few months after doing the rules, I attracted the man who is now my husband. He proposed after dating a few months, and I made the decision to wait a year before marrying him, just so I could be sure. But the best part is he wanted to marry me before I wanted to marry him. Any idiot man who says anything negative about this book just doesn't want to have to put in the work, which means he isn't worthy, anyway. Just don't listen to anyone who says anything bad about this book. It rocks, it works and I'm living proof. Married 3 and 1/2 years now, happily, to a man 8 years younger, and am completely indebted to the rules. I pass this information on to any woman who claims problems with men. It has been a godsend for me and millions of other women. Thank you, The Rules!

5 comments about Catholicism for Dummies.
  1. Excellant book for anyone who is not a Catholic and "thinks" they know, oh so much, about Catholics and the heresies they think that they teach. It is also excellant for the Southern Baptists who view Catholics as non-christian (this is a prevalent view in the south).
It is also an excellant book for ALL Catholics for in it is a lot of information that they did not learn in catechism class.

  2. This book is very informative, and writen in an easy to read format. It has been a very long time since I've embarked on an in depth study of the Holy Roman Catholic faith I was blessed with at my infant baptism. I plan to pass it forward to others, like me, who wish to know more about their faith without needing a degreed theologan sitting down beside them. Thanks to the two good "Fathers" who wrote this book. It has been a real blessing to me.

  3. My husband and I teach different ministries groups at our local Catholic Church and we use this book as a teaching source. It is very easy to understand especially for our elderly parishoners and teens. Alot of the parishoners have ordered this book for their own personal enrichment.

  4. I'm a big fan of the Dummies series, so when I want to learn about something, I tend to lean toward picking up one of their books (among others). I'm Catholic, but there have always been some things that escaped me, and this book was helpful in explaining many of those things, and more. I'd still recommend picking up one of those books that specifically cover Mass in detail if some of the customs and actions have befuddled you. Peace be with you...!

  5. This is a fantastic book to give you an overview of Catholicism. I am not Catholic, but a lot of my in-laws are, and having sat through a lot of masses I was very curious to understand more. This book did the trick. Things are explained in a very clear way, and the authors never belittle other religions. The authors periodically went over the same material repeatedly, ie. sometimes the same facts were given in various chapters. I liked that, as it make it all sink in more. I'd recommend this book to anyone looking for a place to start to learn more.

As for why only 4 stars, consider these sentences, from page 109 talking about confirmation: "It's an unfortunate fact that after some are confirmed, they never come back for high school religious education. Human nature is such that some parental guidance, authority, and sometimes force are needed to get Johnny or Susie to fulfill their Sunday obligation." If that sounds a bit preachy, that's because, well, it is. But hey, the two authors are priests, and that's what they do. That kind of thing is kept to a minimum, but it is present.
