5 comments about The Paradox of Choice: Why More Is Less.
  1. Schwartz has a compelling argument: the more options we have for each choice, the higher our expectation and the longer the decision process. For a number of people (especially those that like to 'maximize' every decision) this can be a very frustrating and potentially debilitating. He reports on studies that show how people are actually better off (more satisfied with outcomes) when given fewer choices. Clearly, this concept has been understood for a while, especially in marketing circles where the goal has been to 'take advantage' of customer behavior. However, Schwartz takes the perspective of the individual or consumer and shows how we can be manipulated and perhaps 'left hanging' when the array of choice is bewildering. This book has a very practical approach to the issue, ending with suggestions on how to address the challenges presented with having too much choice.
I bought a copy for myself, then ended up buying two more copies because I kept loaning it out to others who reported that a third party ended up taking it, instead of giving it back.

  2. My husband and I, both professionals (he's an attorney, I'm a psychologist), had previously had many conversations about how the plethora of choices available in modern-day life--from being able to find virtually every TV program ever made online to owning an iPod that can hold every song we'd want to hear to having access to endless reviews on amazon whenever we need to purchase a new product--somehow seemed detrimental to us, although we were never able to quite put our finger on the precise nature of the problem. So, when we came across the book The Paradox of Choice, we were amazed to find that author Barry Schwartz had done research into exactly phenomenon we had been discussing with each other.

In this book, Schwartz makes a distinction between "satisficers," those who are able to ignore the vast majority of options available and accept the first choice which meets all of their needs, versus "maximizers," those who are convinced that the perfect choice exists and who are willing to ignore the costs associated with searching for this "perfect" option. Schwartz does as an excellent job of showing that maximizers tend to be more depressed and anxious. But then he moves away from the specific topic of choice to discuss the more general subject of happiness. Here Schwartz reviews some of my favorite research in psychology, including Dr. Martin Seligman's work with learned helplessness and his more recent expansion into the positive psychology field. Schwartz also references the book Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert; Dr. Gilbert makes the point that we are all particularly poor predictors of what will make us happy.

In the final part of this book, Schwartz offers some strategies for dealing with the overwhelming amount of options in today's world. Although this is certainly not designed as a self-help book per se, these recommendations build on both Schwartz's own research as well as the work of the above-mentioned psychologists and are designed to help the reader find greater happiness amidst the sea of modern-day choice. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a highly readable account of this fascinating topic.

  3. The author's point is that having too many choices doesn't improve life; and, in fact, it can even be detrimental. It takes extra energy and thought to choose from among the dizzying array of choices that surround us; but that effort doesn't yield a corresponding increase in satisfaction with our choice and often yields _less_ satisfaction than if we had made a decision faster. That's it. That's the whole book. A person could read the first two chapters, the last two chapters, skip the (largely repetitive and very pedantic) middle of the book and still get the basic take-away message.

  4. In this book, Schwartz explores why people make strange decisions, why we can often make decisions that are totally irrational and why the plethora of today's choices make it hard for decisions makers to be content with the decisions they've made after they've made them. Schwartz presents the latest research on why some people seem so happy with a decision they've made when presented with few alternatives and why some people fret over decisions where no avenue has been left unexplored. Nothing too deep here but I found the book very engaging. This would be a great book for someone to read over a weekend.

  5. The unease that has been plaguing me for years now -- I call it "Mall Malaise," finally has scientific basis! It appears to be true - instead of choice bringing more happiness, it actually can frustrate and depress us when taken to the extreme.

Schwartz's easy-to-read analysis of the pluses and minuses of choice, coupled with scientific/psychological studies on why we feel as we do, will help a generation of overachievers and overconsumers find peace in the midst of plenty.

My favorite part -- instead of just explaining the phenomenon, Schwartz provides suggestions on how to mitigate the negative effects of too much choice.

    I feel better already.

5 comments about Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing.
  1. A year ago, I began taking antidepressants and I was tired of the roller coaster ride that ensued of medication experimentation -- looking for the right cocktail, suffering through side effects and withdrawal symptoms, hoping that I'd find something to make me feel better but not make me unable to care for my children. It was exhausting. I was then recommended this book by a friend who practices Reiki -- she said if I wanted to get off the drugs, this would help me do it. AND IT HAS!! I learned to use my "personal power". Caroline Myss is a medical intuitive, which means that she has met hundreds (maybe thousands) of people in pain who need help and she offers diagnoses and even direction to heal. She differentiates between healing the spirit, which is essential to beginning our journey on self-healing, and curing a disease -- after all, sometimes your physical body has deteriorated past the point of recovery. But she shares stories of people physically debilitated by their illnesses, but who are spiritually alive and healthy! Myss's book helped me understand my spiritual self, where is my power, how can I use it to heal myself. She then explains our spiritual selves against the "seven sacred truths", which draw parallels between the 7 chakras, 7 Christian sacraments, and the 7 levels of the Tree of Life of Kabbalah. Not only is this a fascinating read, but it opened my eyes to a world I never considered, a self I never realized I had. "The Anatomy of the Spirit" taught me to understand my spiritual self from ground zero, and gave me the knowledge I needed to begin my journey on self-healing. I am much healthier today and well on the road to recovery both physically and mentally. My life has changed for the better and it all began with this book. Just remember: when you open this book, it will open your world; but first you must approach it with an open mind.

  2. Dr Myss manages to engage, inspire, and bring together three mystical traditions into one system. Her unique technology is a revelation! Entirely relevant to health and disease, Myss's exploration is mystical, spiritual as well as practical.

    You gotta read this book!

  3. This book started me on a path to healing myself. It is a great way to begin to see the unifying principals between major religions. The most important thing for me is that it can help with some introspective self diagnosis of what is ailing you physically and spiritually. I would easily consider this book to be a foundation to start your exploration of the chakra system. Carolyn Myss put me in a new paradigm for at least a year with this book and instilled a hunger for knowledge of the mind body system that has persisted 7 years later. Even though I think this book is a great start to understanding the chakra system and the mind-body connection, it was in depth enough to make you feel like you've been educated.

  4. This is an excellent book for all to read who are looking for guidance through their spiritual journey. Fantastic reading. Well written, easy to follow.

  5. This is a bit of a hard read to me. I have to read the pages over and over to understand the way this is written. I dunno...it's probably a good book if you can manage not to become bored in the beginning with trying to understand it.

5 comments about The Power of Positive Thinking.
  1. This is a very Inspirational book. It's an easy read and will give a much needed attitude ajustment to those who adhere.
Arrived on time as promised and in good condition.

  2. As a book on positive thinking, this is *the* book to read.

However, you don't become successful by positive thinking
alone. You need negative thinking sometimes. When buying
a stock, you need to look at the risks. You sometimes need
creative thinking in your work. You need to think about
how others will think, feel, and perceive your service or
    product.

Therefore, as a thinking skill book, it only covers one aspect.
I think the title is appropriate.

I don't consider this a Christian book but a thinking skills book.

Note: I'm referring to the original version. This is the miniature
version according to other reviews. Amazon got them
    mixed up.

  3. This is a cute little book that we keep in the bedroom and just flip through every once in a while! It has some really nice "food for thought" in it. Quick motivation

  4. I was looking for a read that would inspire and propel me forward at a time when my life was somewhat less than 'light and breezy'. I learned that Norman Vincent Peale was the seed for many of the current popular self-reflection books and decided to start with "The Power of Positive Thinking". I am not disappointed in my selection of this book but it is certainly not a quick read or a page turner. I find that I must put the book down and reflect on the message which is uplifting and reassuring ... just what I needed. I have actually passed the book onto a friend for that very reason.

  5. This was a gift from my parents. Such a great book and very helpful with life's issues. Definitely a book that can be read multiple times when needed.

  1. I could not have anticipated how much fun this book would be. I had flipped through at a couple of stores before I bought it and remember thinking "I couldn't do this! I couldn't buy a book just for the purpose of destroying it." But then I came on here and read other reviews and decided to go ahead and order it. I am so glad I did! It is so freeing to throw it around, scribble on it with reckless abandon and do all the things you've ever dreamed of doing to a book, but knew you would get in trouble for. I have limited myself to one activity a day (boy is that hard!) so I can make it last as long as possible. I highly recommend this book!

  2. I am an artist who bought this book for myself as a birthday gift and fell in love with it. What other book asks you to destroy it with reckless abandon? Keri Smith had a wonderful idea...freedom! Freedom to experiment without worry of the outcome. I brought my "Journal of Destruction" to an artist retreat and many artists not only helped me with a few pages but wrote down the book's information to order one for themselves. My teenage nieces also liked helping me destroy my journal so, I'm getting them each one for their birthdays. Yay for Keri Smith. Can't wait to see her other journals with a similar theme.

  3. I loved this journal! I was reluctant to buy it because I wasn't sure exactly what it was even after getting a look at some of the pages online. However, I didn't want to send an ordinary gift for graduation or cash, and after some consideration, I took a chance. I was very happy when I received this in the mail. This was a very fun and creative gift. I have three teenagers and they all enjoyed flipping through it before I sent it off. I think many college freshman would enjoy receiving this, or even as a great birthday gift for a high school student. I would buy this product again.

  4. I got three books one for me, my sister and mom. I had everyone come over and explained the idea of the book. They loved it. And then I said in the next few weeks and beyond we will share parts of the book we have done with each other. It is amazing what differences everyone has-even though they are family.
I also enjoy that my husband and I can do some of the wreaking together-it makes for a fun evening together. It would be great to do with friends too.
And dont forget to take it everywhere with you-you never know what will come up! :)

  5. This is a fun, interactive book that will keep you occupied over the days, weeks, or months it takes you to use it. A girlfriend has it, so I picked one up and we worked on them together. That was a lot of fun, because we had different ideas about what the different pages meant.

Definitely worth the money, in my opinion. If nothing else, you'll have a cool conversation piece you can put on your front table. :)

  1. This is a great little book with alot of wisdom. I am very happy with my purchase. The transaction, shipping and date of arrival were excellent.

  2. If you are in a certain part of your life right now, you'll find the book profound.

  3. What a great book. A very fast read. Honest, "tough love" for the stuck creative personality. Some coarse language I could have done without, but lots of sharp insight and effective support for his advice in the telling of his own stories and those of others.

  4. This was a great book that a friend recommended to me and I'm glad she did. Sometimes artists get stuck or stagnant and more than once I have found myself "warring" with myself as we sometimes do. This book opened my eyes to some of my creative blocks. Great reading.

  5. I cannot rate this book highly enough. It is one to read over and over again. I stumbled upon a copy years ago and each time I pick it up, I learn something new. Many thanks to Steven Pressfield for writing this very valuable, uplifting, "meaning of life" book.

5 comments about All the Rules: Time-tested Secrets for Capturing the Heart of Mr. Right.
  1. A great book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. Most negative reviews for this book were from guys and I understand why. Guys don't want us to make them put an effort into pursuing us (girls). They definately wish it would be easier for them, but that's exactly why our relationship fails to work after time- we make it too easy. The book teaches how to interest men and make him work to get you if he really wants you and if he doesn't, you don't need him. The book is very true. That's how all relationship work. For those who really wants to get married-don't live with a guy before you get married, otherwise he will never propose and you`ll find yourself pushing him into doing it, not what you want. I'm sooo unbelievably sorry I didn't read this book earlier. I would have not made so many mistakes in my life.
    Good Luck.

  2. I just read this book and now I get it. I had a good (male) friend who was also a player. Even as a player I asked him advice on getting guys. He told me that you have to act like you don't give a f***. I didn't know what he was talking about. Now that I read this book I get it. Before this week as soon as I slept with a guy, called a guy, showed too much interest in a guy, the relationship was over. I did not understand it. I always thought that being agressive and obsessive is how to get what you want. Even watching Eddie Murphy's comedy I didn't understand half of it about the relationship part until I read this book. Now I get it. It's not about restrictions, but freedom. I recommend this book to every woman on the planet, but hope that none of them read it because I want all the guys to myself. (giggle)

  3. It shifted my way of thinking so that I attracted Mr. Right w/out even looking for him! We've been married 10 years now w/ 2 kids. I'd give this book to anyone. A lot of it is about self-respect. It's a very positive message.

  4. very informative book. will work out great for people who dont have much experience with dating.

  5. I read this book years ago and while entertaining, I found it to be outdated and even insulting in some ways. The book pretty much just tells you to manipulate men and then you will get what you want as a woman. Awful! This book sounds like it was marketed to women who were born in 1920. I don't know too many women who wind up having long term successful relationships by manipulating men and being someone other than who they are. Trying to be something you're not works for 5 minutes... then the real you comes out and the man you're with all of a sudden wonders where the other woman he originally met went.

Do not take this book too seriously. If you want an authentic relationship then you must be your authentic self. If you just want to jump out of one superficial relationship into another, then go ahead, play all the silly games you want, manipulate to your hearts content and read The Rules. :(

  1. What a great book. It's amazing to see the other secrets people are carrying, hidden from their family and friends. If you like PostSecret, you should check out SecondChanceOnline.blogspot.com, where people anonymously post regrets they've had.

  2. Is there anyone left on earth who doesn't know about these books, the blog, or the website? If so, where have you been? Out of all the coffee table books I've read in the past, the PostSecret series is the very best of the best. I haven't viewed all of them, but will. That's a promise.

THE SECRET LIVES OF MEN AND WOMEN is probably the least favorite of the book thus far. Maybe because it was so thin compared to the other two.

  3. ive been a follower for the postsecret project for a while now and i love the books that theyve produced with some never-before-seen secrets in there.

  4. I think this one is a little less art, a little more content since Warren knew the secrets were a success (and people cared less for the artistic value of the postcard itself). The postcards are presented in ways that are easier to read than in the first postsecret book (I have not read the second book). The pages are also used more efficiently than in the first book. This book's secrets run more on the darker side. I felt a lot more sad reading this one than the first one. I don't think there was but one funny "secret." All I can say is that I hope the people sending these in are being genuine because I'd feel like a chump if they weren't.

  5. I enjoyed the range of emotions the pages and pictures brought out. It was interesting to see so many share without worry. It makes you know you aren't alone in some of your thoughts. Very unique and artistic.

5 comments about How to Win Friends and Influence People.
  1. This book is like the ABC's of human relations. I think that everyone, including young people justing starting out in the world should read this book. It gives a great foundation for relationships of all types. No reading this book, from a human relations perspective, is like not realizing some basics that can take you far. A must read!

  2. What an excellent book How to Win Friends and Influence People is. It teaches you how to get along better with other people, which will improve the overall quality of your life. A must read book.

I also recommend that you also read The Law of Success in Sixteen Lessons by Napoleon Hill. The Kindle version also includes a free copy of Napoleon Hill's classic, Think and Grow Rich.

  3. Paul Graham (Hackers and Painters) has mentioned that an important read for preparing to start your own business is How To Win Friends and Influence People. I'm happy to report that this gem from 1936 is timeless and truly life-changing. I believe Paul's reasons for the recommendation include: the importance of charisma, general rounding out one's personality, and finding ways to get responsiveness from people by making them feel good.

My real intent in making this review is to get you to pick up a copy of this book and absorb every nugget, so your relationships will increase and improve.

One complaint I have is that the table of contents does not very well summarize the maxims. They are, however, listed in a table at the end of each of the sections. I'll combine them here by their major sections.

Fundamentals for handling people: Don't be critical. Be sincerely appreciative, not flattering. Arouse in the other person an eager want, by focusing on their needs instead of yours.

Making people like you: Get others to do most of the talking. Listen well, and make them feel important. Then they'll feel so good about being listened to that they'll do anything for you.

Win people to your way of thinking: Always start in a friendly way, and be dramatic! See things from the other person's point of view, and be sympathetic with that view.

Leadership: Give lots of genuine praise, and be encouraging. Talk about your own mistakes first, and make his faults seem easy to correct. Ask questions instead of giving orders. Give the other person person a fine reputation to live up to, and let him save face.

Some of the lessons in the book are especially challenging to apply; e.g., making other people feel like your ideas are their own. A fundamental part of an entrepreneur's livelihood is idea generation. But ideas supposedly are not terribly valuable on their own (it's the execution that counts), so maybe this maxim is still valid. This seems to underscore the importance of having a lot of trust in your business partner(s).

I've noticed that a lot of people don't call me by my name; maybe just because it's slightly uncommon. I do make an effort to remember someone's name and use it with some frequency. It was encouraging to hear Carnegie underscore this. He's right -- it does feel good when someone addresses me properly.

I'm going to change my approach to making requests of people. I have a habit of getting right to the point and immediately stating what I want and why. That's probably why so many of my requests go unanswered! A general theme in the book is that getting what you want involves some indirection. I.e., think of things from the other person's perspective and present things from an angle of how they are the beneficiary.

Overall, lots of Carnegie's ideas are common sense, but it still was useful to hear him voice them. Some of the principles are not so obvious and I probably wouldn't have ever discovered them on my own. I toted this book around with me for a couple weeks and found that having the ideas fresh in my head greatly improved my interactions with people. For this reason, I think this book (or its summary) would be highly valuable to skim over before every important meeting.

  4. Although originally written several decades ago, Carnegie's masterpiece about human
relationships is still timeless classic with principles that still apply today. Carnegie crafts a classic on how to create strong and lasting relationships with others through listening, understanding, and emphasizing. He argues convincingly that the way to win friends and influence people is to make others feel important. Simple, but extremely powerful concepts!

The Re-Discovery of Common Sense: A Guide to: The Lost Art of Critical Thinking

  5. I wish I would have read this many years ago. It's great for career, and personal areas. I bought a few copies to share with others. As long as you are interested in becoming a better person, and not just a novel, this is the book that will deliver.

5 comments about Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay: A Step-by-Step Guide to Help You Decide Whether to Stay In or Get Out of Your Relationship.
  1. There are many reasons to consider leaving or staying in a relationship. If you want to take a serious look at what is happening in yours, read this book, work through the guidelines and use the tools presented. Being ambivalent about what you want to do is destructive to you, personally. This book gives you the ability to make a decision (one way or the other) that is based on your honest answers. Glad I bought the book, glad I worked through it (not once, but twice), and I would recommend this to anyone seeking clarity.

  2. My best friend from college is headed towards divorce - as a friend - you want to help her - but what do I know about being married and having five kids - zilch. My cousin is having marital problems and mentioned this book - she said it was great. I remembered it - and I sent it to her hoping it would shed some light on a very painful subject. I got a txt from her a mere few days later telling me SHE LOVES THE BOOK!!! She said it is so immensely helpful, which coincidentally mirrored my cousins sentiments - it really makes you weigh both sides.

So while I can't personally say I know this books value - two people that I love very much - on two different coasts - LOVE IT! Order it now!

  3. Last summer I found out my husband was having an affair with a woman I considered my best friend. We've been trying to put our marriage back together, but as you can imagine it has not been an easy process. I love my husband deeply despite the affair, and I know he loves me, but with all the pain and damage between us it's hard to know what to do.

Recently, it had all begun to seem hopeless. All we do is fight. My days became consumed with wondering if I'd be better off just ending the marriage now. Then this weekend I was in the bookstore and came across this book. I spent the entire weekend reading it. This book is so helpful! It showed me that despite our problems, my marriage is still too good to leave. Underneath all the pain we're inflicting on each other currently, our marriage is still alive. There is a solid foundation that, if we can tap into it, should be able to get us through this.

This book also identified for me IN CLEAR TERMS exactly where our problems are coming from! And it made it clear to me that if we do not fix these problems, then this marriage WILL be too bad to stay in. But for now, there is still hope.

This book has given me exactly what I needed. Now I'm not wasting so much time thinking about leaving, when I could be investing that energy in making the marriage better. And now I know what line to draw in the sand to tell myself how I'll know if and when to leave.

I can't believe this book isn't more famous! Everyone should read this book! I wish I'd read it BEFORE my marriage got to the point where my husband had an affair. We could have saved ourselves years of pain and therapy!

  4. "Am I throwing the baby out with the bath water?" That question was keeping me awake nights. Let's face it, whether to end it or stay will impact every, single day for the rest of your life. You wouldn't be reading this book if you weren't having serious relationship problems, but let's be honest, you wouldn't be confused if the relationship were 100% bad. I think it is natural to think of most decisions as a weight scale with the good things on one side and the bad things on the other and try to figure out whether the bad is more than 50%. This book helped me understand that the balance scale approach is flawed. Once I realized that each person has their own list of "musts" and "core values" which must be present for sustained hapiness in a relationship and that when any "must have" is missing, it's best to leave---I got it. You know truth when you hear it and this is right. You cannot "fix" or "change" fundamental core traits in a mate...anymore than they can fix or change fundamental core traits in us. You can "fix" things like housekeeping skills, or schedule more time together, or go to parenting classes, but you can't realistically change many core elements of another person. They either have what you require, or they don't. If they don't, you're just making yourself and them miserable trying to change them, and you have little if no chance of being able to do so long-term. This book is pure logic, and it allowed me to determine how to make a logical decision that I would never worry about 2nd guessing later. I am not a strong-willed person by nature. I tend to make many decisions based on emotions. I am a "pleaser" who has a hard time saying "No." Without having read this book, I would still likely be wasting my life trying to "fix" the unfixable. This book gave me the understanding I needed to make a decision I understood was necessary and right for both of us. It gave me the resolve to hold firm with a healthy decision. Three years later, I am in a healthy relationship with a man I have no interest in changing or fixing. I thought all relationships had to be "hard work" and even emotionally painful at times. I was wrong. Once this book laid out the traits a life partner must have, I was able to spot traits that made me turn and run and also helped me spot a mate who had everything I needed. I think without this book, I might have dismissed him and not have recognized what an incredible person he is. I was married this year, and could not be happier. I attribute my strength in leaving the unhealthy relationship and the knowledge needed to spot and select a healthy relationship in large part to this book. Warning: do not read this book if you really want to stay in a bad relationship and wallow in self-pity.

  5. I found this book to be a great help for me when my relationship ended recently. The author puts things so clearly and logically; it was easy to follow her thoughts. I was surprised to find my situation so well described, often in sections of the book I hadnt thought would relate to me. I recommend this book to people who are unsure, but also to people like me who have already made up their mind but need a bit of reaasurance.

  1. Good solid understanding / explanation of FMS and Chronic Fatigue. Nutrionally very helpful, however when it came to the hormone treatment my doctor would not consider writing the necessary scripts. I have been following the vitamin regime and hope to feel a difference in the next month for the expensive supplements. This book is a good guide to anyone with FMS / Chronic Fatigue.

  2. From Fatigued to Fantastic! By Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D.

This book could easily have been subtitled: "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia, but Were Too Tired to Ask." No need to ask, because as one commercial goes, "It's all in there!" Not only is the coverage comprehensive, it is written with compassion, care, and concern for the person plagued with chronic fatigue and its related syndrome, fibromyalgia.

The core of the book is Dr. Teitelbaum's SHIN protocol. This acronym represents Sleep Issues, Hormonal Support, Infections, and Nutrition. Each of these four important areas of treatment has its own chapter, because he believes these four issues, with symptoms treated simultaneously, are the most crucial to overcoming chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. However, the book goes well beyond these four important points, because Dr. Teitelbaum includes natural remedies and prescription pain relief remedies, weight gain associated with the illnesses, and the mind-body connection in illness. For example, Chapter 10 is called "Am I Crazy?" and one I would recommend reading first if you have any doubts about the reality of CFS/FMS.

Read, learn, and restore your energy.

  3. Dr Teitelbaum has done an exceptional job writing this book. Since it is so hard for us to read and understand information, he has stated his program with an organized and easy to understand format.

I started his program at one of his clinics three months ago. This book and his program has done for me what no one else could in the last 7 years. I am almost pain free, and able to do a little more each week.

Since Dr Teitelbaum has Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia himself, he has studied, experimented and listened to himself and others. His program has medical facts to back it up, and are explained extremely well in this book. I did not realize how many people were as sick as myself, until I started going to one of his nationwide clinics.

This book is for anyone who has fatiuge, or pain, or who has a loved one with unexplained symptoms that doctors are putting off as a mental disorder. Fibro and Fatigue are real, and Dr Teitelbaum and his staff of doctors have the answers, and will help you every step of the way.

Buying this book has been a God send for me. It has information that I reference all most daily. Good luck with your search to get well, but getting this book is a great first step.

  4. Before he was a doctor, Jacob Teitelbaum came down with the mysterious, chronic fatigue syndrome, which many consider a hopeless diagnosis. He was told that it his prognosis was bleak, and for a while even was homeless. He persevered, found a cure for his ailments, and has now become the famous and respected Dr. Teitelbaum.

In this book, he describes the diagnosis, causes of, and treatments for, chronic fatigue sydrome, treatments that return 90% of his patients to work. Unfortunately, many of the diagnosis that Dr. Teitelbaum says cause chronic fatigue, such as severe intestinal infections, heavy metal toxicities, and unusual endocrine problems, etc. are not acknowledged by "mainstream," "establishment," or "corporate" medicine, despite the fact that when treated, people recover...

The choice is yours: chronic disability, or health with Dr. Teitelbaum's regimen.

Although I have given this book five stars in recognition of its vast compendium of helpful information, I regret that this book does go into all too great depth explaining how heavy metals can cause some of the problems Dr. Teitelbaum describes, and how to treat the more severe toxicities. Some doctors who treat the fungal infections Dr. Teitelbaum describes, and are involved in medical research of them, say that they almost never see these infections in people without undue heavy metal burdens, and that removing the heavy metals allows the body to rid itself of the fungal infections (the fungi in question are exceptionally good at absorbing and binding heavy metals.) A heavy metal toxicities are also known to cause the seemingly bizarre endocrine problems Dr.Teitelbaum describes and treats, and to cause mitochondrial dysfunctions, another dysfunction that Dr. Teitelbaum describes and treats. From a patient's point of view it is always preferable to cure rather than treat an illness. Some of these subjects explored in great depth in other books I have reviewed.

  5. A definite must read book for people with connective tissue disease aka fibromyalgia aka chronic fatigue syndrome. This author is a physician that also suffered from fibro and he has implemented vitamins, exercise, and whole foods as a way to improve or cure fibro. Read the book! This author has also written a book entitled "Pain Free 1-2-3" with more information. Buy them both!
