  1. This is a wonderful book for people who take their dreams seriously and want to understand them. The heart of the book is the 14 case studies (ten women and four men) whose work on their recurring dreams with the author led them to transform their lives in very positive and inspiring ways. And I found it very interesting and valuable that in these case studies nearly every dream symbol imaginable is discussed and interpreted. In the last fifteen years I have read a lot of books on dreams and this may be the best of them. I highly recommend it.

  2. Kathleen Sullivan has done an excellent job on a subject that is relatively untouched in the dream field. Not only does she make sense of the hugely different dream series she worked with but she provides an articulate and highly readable overview of what recurring dreams may be trying to help us work through or heal, AND fantastic guidelines for people to begin identifying and working with recurring dream symbols of their own.

It was especially intriguing to me to see, as both a reader and a person with a recurring dream series of my own, that working through a dream series is not necessarily a linear process. The whole idea that change and awareness takes place on many different levels at different times, and is not a simple progression from "A" to "B" to enlightened being.

This is a breakthrough book on the subject of recurring dreams and is a good read for anyone interested in dreams -- whether yours are repeating or not!

  3. Kathleen Sullivan's newest book, Recurring Dream Symbols:Maps to Healing Your Past, reads like a series of short stories. These stories are deceptively simple. I found that I needed to gently remind myself to slow down, so as not to miss the many gems that are discovered within each dream story. I enjoyed playing dream detective, along with the dreamers and Ms. Sullivan, as they explored the dreams. Ms. Sullivan expresses through her writing who she is and how she teaches. By example, she teaches us how to be dream explorers. And throughout the book, each dreamer proves that we can HEAL ourselves by paying attention to recurring dreams.

  4. I highly recommend Recurring Dream Symbols by Kathleen Sullivan. This book provides techniques that one can immediately apply to their own dream material. Ms. Sullivan, through her excellent teaching and well written book, allows us to witness the growth experienced by 4 men and 10 women dreamers. Her knowledge and passion for dream work is evident in the clarity of her writing, variety of approaches and brilliant dream weaving.

I learned by participating in a dream group the value of paying attention to other people's dreams. As you read Recurring Dream Symbols I have no doubt you will recognize and be able to own for yourself much of the material presented.

  5. This is one of the best dream books I have read and I have read lots. The author writes in a clear, interesting style that makes it hard to put her work down until you eyes demand a rest. After reading the book I realized that I have been having repetitve dreams for years but had not noticed them as there were not identical. The book will also help you make the paradign shift form seeing repeated figures as representations of characterizations of yourself that need attending to and not get sidetracked by mistaken literalim.

5 comments about She Who Dreams: A Journey into Healing through Dreamwork.
  1. SHE WHO DREAMS is a powerful book. Wanda Easter Burch gives us a beautiful portrait of a life lived on many levels - as we all live - and, by offering the harrowing and hopeful details of her life, inspires us to look at our own lives with the same degree of curiosity and compassion.

With the quality of pacing and skillful foreshadowing that a seasoned novelist would offer, the author lays out her personal story. On one level it follows her roots in the American South to travels in Africa, important interactions with the Mohawk tribe and her home in a rural New York hamlet. We follow her struggle with cancer including her mastectomy, the emotional despair her chemotherapy induces and, ultimately, her path as one who heals. On another level it follows the story of her dreams. Her childhood is guided by a grandmother who understood the power of dreams to foretell and bring healing. Her adult life is blessed with the incomparable friendship of well-known author and dream explorer, Robert Moss - whom she first met in a childhood dream. The author's dreams insistently foretell of a cancer her doctors repeatedly ignore. As insistently, her dreams predict her death at age 43.

By actively following guidance her dreams provide, the author is led - and leads us - through a healing process that proves, beyond a shadow of doubt, the power of the spirit and the mind. And, even more profound, it leads to a rewriting of a life contract that, in its extension, offers us a writer whose unfolding talents provide unique inspiration that inside each of us lies the ability for our dreams to reveal our own infinite wisdom. Reading SHE WHO DREAMS may well change your life.

  2. I confess that I came to this book as something of a skeptic. To my rational, scientific mind, the idea that one's dreams can affect or predict the future seemed pretty iffy. Yet it is hard to deny the truth of personal experience. Wanda Burch has a fascinating story to tell, and I was drawn in by it. She describes her life-and-death experiences in vivid detail, with honesty and insight that leap out from the page. The author is more than a survivor; she is clearly a woman of extraordinary courage.

For anyone who has struggled with special health challenges, or anyone who has wondered what their dreams mean, or for that matter anyone who just enjoys a good original biography, I highly recommend this book.

  3. Wonderful book.
For those of us who have very active dream times... this book is so informative and for those who may not be heavy dreamers but are interested in the wisdom that our dreams can bring us, it is a must read. V

  4. Dreaming is healing. Our bodies speak to us in dreams, giving us early warning of symptoms we might develop, showing us what they need to stay well. Dreams give us fresh and powerful images for self-healing. Dreams are also the language of the soul; they put us in touch with wells of memory and sources of creativity and energy far beyond the clutter and confusion of the little everyday mind. Beyond this, dreams are experiences of the soul, and can take us - sleeping or hyper-awake - into realms where we can have direct access to sacred healers and teachers.

These themes and possibilities come vividly alive in Wanda Burch's brave and beautiful book She Who Dreams, which is both the narrative of a personal journey into healing through dreaming and an incitement to bring the gifts of active dreaming into our everyday lives.

I have been sharing dreams with Wanda since early in 1987, and I know the depth of experience and the deeps of dreaming from which this book flows. Her dreams diagnosed a life-threatening illness (breast cancer) a year before the doctors found symptoms. Her dreams guided her choice of treatment, gave her powerful imagery for self-healing and recovery, enabled her to grow a creative relationship with her physicians and awakened her to a deeper life and a vital engagement with the world as a dreambringer - one of those who creates a safe space for others to open to the gifts of dreaming, and can bring a dream to someone in need of a dream.

Her personal story is quite fascinating. Her first dream mentor was her Irish-American grandmother, a "wise woman" of the Alabama hill country. Later she met the dreamers of the Iroquois, one of whom appeared at her back door in the form of a white wolf.

But it is the story of everyday trials, more than the extraordinary elements in this book, that will touch the hearts of many readers and bring them practical guidance that is urgently needed. Wanda shows how dreams can get us through. One of her most valuable contributions to the literature of healing and recovery is to show us how we can use the self-healing tools that flow from dreamwork to support conventional medical treatments, smoothing the process and reducing adverse side-effects. For this alone, She Who Dreams is an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals, therapists, healers and caregivers.

  5. This is a beautiful, fascinating book revealing the author's discoveries about a personal path to healing available to anyone, found within one's own dreams and imagination. The body believes in images and if the healing images are personal and come from the self, via dreams, they have more power to heal. Wanda tells use her story and inspires us to pay attention to our own story. She provides healing images we can borrow and make our own, and gives us guidelines on how to work with our dreams. I will give this book to anyone I know who faces a health challenge.

2 comments about The Four Gold Keys: Dreams, Transformation of the Soul, and the Western Mystery Tradition.
  1. The Four Gold Keys is the best book on Christian symbolism I have ever read. Clarke does not merely explain the symbolism. He shows how the symbols and archetypes of the individual and collective consciousness are meant to transform our lives, to individuate us into the types of spiritual heros described by Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. I recommend this book for those who desire to transform their lives for the better by using the wisdom hidden in the Christian mysteries. Jim Marion, author of "Putting on the Mind of Christ, the Inner Work of Christian Spirituality."

  2. Jung said if we want to study dreams, a dream series is better than isolated ones. The book under review is a good illustration of that, being composed exclusively of dreams of the author and his comments on them. This is a rare achievement, very challenging and very instructive. Verily I learned from the book some of the pitfalls to avoid when dealing with our dreams, but that is enough in itself to make a treasure. When we offer our dreams to the world, we must accept the possibility that they will be diverted of their way.
Clarke presents himself as Jung's successor, but I have my doubts about that. He talks all the time about the `Higher Self', but as far as I know Jung never did. Jung at the end came up with the equation psyche = matter, Clarke wants to be all spirit, a Priest of the unconscious as he says. When he writes "Jung speaks of the ferocious conflict between the sex instinct and the love of God" (p. 230), or "Jung states that we must live by the higher Lord of Spirits, but that modern man has fallen into the dark, negative side of Mercurius" (p. 346), I want references because I don't recognize Jung in that. But this is a lesser evil. After all everybody is entitle to follow his own way. The greater evil in the occurrence is not listening to our dreams, and I think Clarke falls badly here.
If we amplify a dream with collective material, be it Christian, Egyptian, alchemical or what not, we will end up talking only about our readings if we don't come back to the dream. What it has to say to the dreamer - before the Western man or humanity - might well lie hidden precisely in the little details in the dream that differ from the collective material. Jung said (well, I don't give the reference) that every dream talks about something the dreamer doesn't know, otherwise it won't occur at all. It may be debatable, but it makes a good tool in understanding dreams. For instance if a dream agrees completely with the conscious attitude or thinking of the dreamer - many dreams in the book are of this type - then, according to the tool, something must be wrong with this attitude or thinking.
The `moral quest' with dreams consists in taking them personally and doing something with them, otherwise we get stuck with the shadow - even if God himself appears on our bedside. What is missing throughout the book is the feminine in its totality.

  1. Dreams Do Come True is all about change. The greatest discovery for me in reading this book was how my nightmares can work for me.

I have always been a person who was afraid of nightmares. Now I am using them as vehicles to discover something about myself! So while I might still wake upset, now I set right to figuring out what the heck that was about!

The author opens the door to understanding dreams. No more dream dictionaries for me. I find the subject absolutely fascinating. And she writes like she's talking right to you.

An easy read and yet very enlightening.

  3. I was struck by how well it is written and
how she laid out the ideas and theories
in such logical sequence. It's easy reading,
but very meaty, at the same time. I enjoyed
her personal anecdotes, as well as other
examples that she gave as demonstrations.
The graphs are very helpful, too. And, even though there is
a lot of serious material in the book, it's not
intimidating or overwhelming, as it could easily
    have become.

  4. I have just finished reading Dreams Do Come True, which I found very intriguing and informative. It gives the readers practical tools to begin the journey of interpreting and understanding the meaning of their dreams. I enjoyed Layne Dalfen's conversational and friendly manner to write about her life experience with dream interpretation. Her book opens a door for the readers to walk out into the field and see the landscape of their own personal human experience, and is an invitation to explore it.

  5. While I think that traditional dream interpretation may be an over-analysis of random brain impulses, certainly certain poignant events during the day can trigger dreams that deliver secret messages to us.

After reading Layne Dalfen's book, I had a nightmare. I was able to discern a warning in the dream, a warning about an issue that was bothering me and that I hadn't dealt with.

Perhaps dreams are sometimes messages and sometimes random, but a really memorable dream is worth examining. If there is a hidden message there, "Dreams Do Come True" can help you find what you might be telling yourself.

  1. This is good stuff. John talks fast but clear and crams a
a lot of information into these two discs. But, these two
discs are also included in the Developing your own Psychic
Powers 6 disc set. No need to buy both.

  2. I found this CD to be very helpful. John gives lots of background information about meditation, angels and spirit guides, what to do and what not to worry about. He takes you step-by-step through several different meditations, 1 at a beginners level and 1 at an advanced level. I use it often and find it very relaxing.

  3. If you think you're going to become a psychic because of this CD, forget it. John even tells you that you won't. There's a lengthy very strange meditation on it to "hopefully" unleash your psychic potential but I found it bizarre. Just meditate and pray your favorite prayers and if you're more psychic than others, you may increase your awareness. At the very least, you'll relax. No need to travel to a place that holds your third eye, and some other things (as in the meditation). Love John. Disliked this CD.

  4. this tape is really good it will show you how to tap into spirit, also loads tips to protect, very helpful together with another book
[the calling of your true self]both these mediums, are so helpful in these books and tapes, both enlightened mediums which will teach you a lot, and also make you think, buy these, and you will, believe me change your outlook

  5. I had high hopes for these tapes. I am very pleased to say that I am not disappointed. John Edwards provides fantastic excerises. I have noticed a huge increase in activity since starting these meditations.

I am also very pleased with the laid back nature Mr. Edwards takes with his discussions. His humor and realistic approaches to meditations give you a different insight. Anyone looking to unlock their own abilities should give these tapes a try.
