5 comments about 50 Self-Help Classics (Unabridged).
- This is worth reading if you are into the classics of self help but its a little light on real content. Not sure what I expected but while it is okay I struggled a bit with it. On the plus side it has many classics I have never read but only heard of and that is good. It is an easy read in that it is small chapters and you can read one in your spare time and stay motivated. Worth the price of admission.
- I picked up this book by chance from a public library. Butler-Bowden did an excellent job of summarizing the works of some of my favorite famous authors. I enjoyed using it so much that I decided to get my own copy. Incidentally, it was not available in the main bookstores.
- I bought this to listen to while commuting to work. I think it was a good choice and has been much more informative than listening to music or the radio. The content is good but the narration is mediocre with too many long pauses at inappropriate times. I tended to drift off the subject during his pregnant pauses.
- If you're an avid reader of Reader's Digest Condensed Books, you might like this collection. Otherwise, go to your library's self-help section and check out the real things for a better taste of each book before buying them. With 50 Self-Help Classics you're getting the author's take on each publication and so you have to remember that his opinion is prevelant throughout each chapter. Having studied some of these texts in grad school, I found some of his opinions (although valid) lacked depth and understanding. It's easy to tell which books are his favorites and which ones he added just to come up to a total of 50.
- 50 Self-Help Classics: 50 Inspirational Books to Transform Your Life
This is a terrific book. It summarizes self-help classics providing pithy information in a highly readable form. It is also a great way to preview many books to ascertain which ones you might want to purchase to read in full.
The author has also published a whole series of other classics, including prosperity classics, success classics, and psychology classics, so if you enjoy the author's format and the excellent quality of his summaries, you may find similar value in these other offerings.

5 comments about Inside My Heart: Choosing to Live with Passion and Purpose (Unabridged).
- did not care for it, VERY boring, I've owned it for a year and still have not finished it and no desire to.
- I did not think this was such a great book. Somewhat of an arrogant type of person, not at all a humbleness to her. Sorry, I didn't like it.
- This is a very interesting book. Very well written and a hard book to put down. I Loved It. She is a very smart woman. And a great wife. I learned alot from her. Thank You Robin for your great insight into being a great wife and mother!
- If you like, love, hate, don't know Dr Phil it doesn't matter. This book (narrated by Robin herself) is an incredible listen and she takes you from little girl to woman and all the trials she has gone through. She is amazingly candid and because of this she is someone you can relate too. The way she has handled everything from an alcoholic father to cancer is not only inspiring but admirable. She tells it from the darkest times to the most happiest momonts in her life. I loved it.
- This book is shallow and not intellectually challenging. It is sweet for her to share the stories of her life, but I didn't feel there was anything to "learn" from this life recap.

1 comments about The Advanced Programmer's Guide to Aix 3.X (The Ibm Mcgraw-Hill).
If you are an advanced unix programmer looking for an overview
of how AIX is different from systems you already know, don't
bother with this book. The material is elementary and mostly
applicable to all unix systems.
A programmer with lots of C experience on non-unix systems
would probably find this book helpful. Each of the parts of
the system which are unfamiliar are covered in varying depth.
The material on shells occupies far too much of the book,
though.
The first 100 pages are about the bourne, C and Korn shell.
The next section gives a general overview of some system calls,
and has a few nice examples which capture the flavor of
unix system programming. There is a small amount of information
which is specific to AIX, but most of this material is
generic. A unix newcomer would do better to learn from a
POSIX or X/Open text and be able to produce portable code.
I'd recommend Donald Lewine's excellent "POSIX programmer's
Guide" as a better first guide to unix system programming.
Even more depth is found in R.W. Stevens' "Advanced Programming
in the Unix Environment".
Some very general system V IPC and signal material follows
in the next section. It is all capped off with development
environment information about XLC, ld, and make. Again, if
you have unix development experience this will all be
familiar. A unix newcomer could benefit from this section.

5 comments about Life Strategies for Teens.
- It is so great that someone who has grown up with Dr. Phil for a father feels ready to share wisdom from his perspective with teens like himself. I found it much more effective than most books written by adults (who were teens in such different times!) There's one issue teens struggle with, however, that didn't get the attention it deserved: what to do when you love lots of different things but your guidance counselor and parents say you'll eventually have to pick just one. ...
- well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!
- I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. It makes me so sad to hear bad things about this book becuase that review probably stopped someone from buying this amazing book.
This book helped me through the toughest times in my life, it works with you and helps you see what is behind the "my life is perfect" mask that so many teens have. Amazing book, it changed who I am and how I act. For instance, in one chapter it talks about how in arguments if you just talk even if someone is yelling at you, you are not being passive, but in turn arguments turn into talks a lot more often. So as a test i followed this advice becuase i had just moved in with a step-sister my own age and we were not getting along very well. Now, that we stopped fighting (and i give all credit to this book) we are able to talk about what is bothering us and not fight. We couldnt be closer now. And that is exactally the reason i would recommend this book to ANYONE, it helps with topics like that without barking orders or telling you what you need to do or you suck as was stated above. This is an EXCELLENT book. BEST BOOK I EVER READ!!!!!
- The transcation went smoothly, the book arrived sooner than expected, and was in perfect condition.
- this book was purchased by me for my granddaughter. i read the book before giving it to her for her birthday she has read it and tells she finds it very helpful and has shared some of the book with her younger sister. i treasure any info that can help my grand daughters have a better life. lmr
