- This book is a book that every woman needs to read! It will make you cry, make you angry, and give all women in this situation extreme hope. It declares a failure of our system regarding women and children. Bravo Barbara Grace English!!
- Wow! What an eye opener! This is told from the heart! What a story of how easily women can be lead into dangerous relationships. I loved this book!
- One of the best books that I have read in a long time. It really told a story of unbeliveable facts. I could not put the book down.
- This is one of the best books I've read about the plight of women in a male dominated society. We've come a long way, yes, but there's still miles to go before we sleep. Books like this will help a lot. I recommend it totally.
- Barbara Grace English hits the nail on the head with her book about the injustices women suffer in the court system here in the South. This is a true story about a bigamist husband who has done unbelievable things to his wife and children, including having a tow truck take away his wife's car early one morning; years later after the wife finds out about his bigamy, does she make a trip to another state to see her car sitting in the drive of "another" wife's home. Her children do without shoes and other basic necessities, but again and again the court system fails them. I could not put this book down until it was finished!

- Do not buy this or any other book written by Ira Distenfield or his bird-brain wife. Ira Distenfield is a con man, a thief, and a liar who has made a very comfortable living by using sham corporations to protect his assets from creditors, cheating the IRS, breaking laws pertaining to unauthorized practice of law, and engaging in other fraudulent activity. This is written by a man who brings American companies to their knees by lying to them in sales agreements, writing fake promissory notes, and selling fictitious franchises. Do a few google searches yourself if you don't believe me. NOBODY should be spending a dime to support this con man, his wife, and their crooked lifestyle. The only place Ira Distenfield belongs is in a federal prison.

- In this slight novella Frederick Barthelme, one of the new generation of serious Southern writers, presents a thin story that covers several days in the breakup of a marriage. Martin, the central character, leaves his home after his wife declares her intention to divorce him and goes to visit (we never quite know why)his wife's sister who runs a down-and-out motel on the Gulf shore of Florida. Almost immediately they begin an affair which, since they really know nothing about one another, is only a substitute for what each wants in life at that moment. The wife decides to come visit. Again, the motivation for this is not clear. She knows about the affair and when the sisters are together they alternately attack and support one another, leaving Martin (and, I suspect, the reader)puzzled as to what is going on and where it is headed. An interesting cast of supporting characters, including the sister's ex-husband and his eccentric brother, provide the real interest in the 'story', such as it is.
There are arresting images and colorful dialoge in parts of this book, but nothing binds it all together into any kind of emotional or intellectual whole. The scenes that worked best would probably make a good minimalist play. Something like Pinter with a bit of wry humor. But as a novel, this book is just too thin in every regard and one reaches the end knowing nothing more about the central characters than when the book began. It is a promise unfulfilled.
- Frederick Barthelme, Tracer (Penguin, 1985)
When you're a writer, and your brother is a writer, you have to expect the comparisons, especially if the two of you tend to float in the same water. The particular swimming pool that is eighties literature, [urinated] in on a fairly regular basis by Papa Hemingway and Sinclair Lewis, is home to the Barthelme brothers. And as much as I hate to draw obvious comparisons and judge by them, Donald's the better writer. Still, Fred is capable of turning a decent tale. His protagonist is on the cusp of divorce, staying in Florida with his soon-to-be-ex-wife's sister. The two never quite get romantically entangled, but they share bed space every once in a while, which makes things slightly uncomfortable when the wife shows up. Frederick Barthelme's strength resides in his ability to create minor characters and setting; much of what goes on around the main triangle here is memorable, in ways (as much as I hate to do it again... it's the same kind of semi-dada whimsy that inhabits Donald's more notable works). The problem is that the main plot, what little there is of it, never really gets off the ground. The main characters don't have the emotional depth to hold the minimal changes in their emotional states that Frederick is trying to use to signal the way their relationships are changing towards one another. He's also guilty of giving just enough in places to be ambiguous about what events will transpire, then cutting to the next morning without us knowing exactly what went on, and then never following up. Could've been good. Left a lot to be desired. **

- The most wonderfully written book I have read in the last 5 to 6 years!! This is her best work since " Look for me by Moonlight". Which I also loved nonetheless. Everybody take a day or two ( believe me, you won't need it whit this book) and read this fabulous book that will surely go down in history!
- I am atracted to scary stories,so I bought this book as soon as I saw it.At first I was thinking that this might not be as scary as it was said to be,but as I got further into it,I found that it was full of suprises. The main charecter Laura,is so well described that I feel as though I've known her my whole life. This is a fabulous book, and I recomend it to anyone who loves bone chilling tales.
- That book was great!! I couldn't put it down. I loved it, I reccomend it to anyone who likes exciting fantasy that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- In this book Laura and her brother Jason go off to live with their aunt while their mother and father prepare for a divorce. While living with their aunt, Laura meets a strange old woman who claims she is a witch and can get her parents back together. The only catch is that Laura must take an item that belongs to her brother, her mother, her father and her aunt and give it to the witch.
At first Laura doesn't believe in magic, but when her brother gets mysteriously ill, Laura believes that the witch's spell really works. Now Laura has to find a way to break the spell before it's too late.
- I loved this book, though I got it by chance as a gift from my mom's friend. It might be hard to get a hand on, but it's worth it. There's a lot of suspense and I couldn't put it down! I agree with my fellow readers, it's the best book! *Thumbs up*

- This book's no nonsense approach to divorce is honest and filled with common sense. Even though divorces are usually so emotionally charged, this book made it possible for us to see through the anger and hurt, asks the questions you won't ask yourself, and hopefully if answered honestly, you can help work through the items that could turn into big issues later. READ this book. I can't sing its praises enough. If you want to get through your divorce and get on with your life, use this guide.
- This books makes clear that the kind of divorce you end up with is a mater of your intent. It then guides you step by practical step to enable you that execute that intent to end your marriage with dignity and preserve a semblence of a civilized relationship for your future dealings. Beyond divorce it is a teriffic guide for how to negotiate with and talk to your partner or spouse in a most productive way to get what you need or want. It's a real gem.
- While some of the information in this book might be useful if you are in danger of marching off to divorce court, but would prefer not too, most is just rehashed and outdated information borrowed from other sources. Not much original here, especially if you've read other books on "Good Divorce." Stick to more to experienced writers such as Kirshenbaum and Wallerstein if you are looking for information on as important a topic as this.

3 comments about Santa Clause, The.
- Like the movie this book captures your attention with flying colors. With Tim Allen as Scott. When Scott tries on the suit he does not realize that he has now taken on all duties and full responsibililties to become Santa Clause. After a night of delivering presents he realizes that the reindeer take him to the North Pole. Stuck out in the cold until an elf lets he and his son Charlie into the work shop. After denying that he is not there for a long time he finally goes to bed. The next morning he wakes up and finds that he is in his own bed. He thought that it had all been a dream until he sees his red Pj's that say, S.C ( for Santa Clause ). His son Charlie didn't think it was a dream, he knew it was real. Charlie kept telling people about it, they thought Scott was delusional, and he got his visitation taken away from him. By that time Scott had began to look more like Santa Clause with a big belly and a white beard that he could not get rid of. He had also gotten the lists. He had to go back to the North Pole to get every thing ready. Charlie went with him. But he did not tell his mother he was going. When scott went to deliver presents to Charlie's house he got arrested. The elfs went and broke him out of jail and then he continued delivering presents. Scott's present from Charlie's mom was she burned the visitation papers. She wanted Scott to come vist Charlie when ever he could.
- If you would like to read a heartwarming, funny, active, and family bonding book, The Santa Clause is your best choice. It made me realize how important family is. Scott Calvin, the main guy, (who is the father of Charlie and the x-husband to Laura Calvin) goes outside, in the snow, on Christmas with his son. They real Santa Clause had fallen off their roof and disappeared with his clothes left behind. Scott was forced to become the new Santa for all the little boys and girls and especially his son. He had to go to the North Pole and everything! In the book, Laura says to Scott, "You have no idea how dangerous this is to make Charlie think your Santa Clause." Nobody, except Charlie, believed him. The boy and his dad were ripped apart. Then by a gracious heart, and a touching ending, you just feel so warm and tingly inside. I most definitely recommend reading this ultimate heartwarming book.
- You should definitely buy this book. I bought a used version from this site and it came quickly and in great shape. This is a great book to read to your kids at bedtime.

5 comments about Retired with Husband: Superwoman's New Challenge.
- Mary Louise Floyd, herself a retired educator, community active, empty-nested mother with a retired-corporate-attorney husband, writes with a very special expertise about the challenges, strategies, and necessities of being a "first wave boomer" and entering the senior citizen years of retirement. There has always been pressure on baby boomer women to "have it all and do it all". Often that continues into the retirement years with "superwoman" expectations in "partnership marriages". Mary Floyd articulate defines and discusses the concept of "baby-boom superwoman", the "Gray Divorce" phenomenon, the challenges superwomen face with their retired husbands (and the strategies to deal with them); steps to establishing long-term goals and their achievement, all illustrated through her own experiences as on of those baby-boom superwomen. Strongly recommended reading, Retired With Husband is written with with, humor, insight, experience, and will prove to be one of the most engaging and informative introductions to helping women (and men) in similar circumstances master the changes that are occurring in their lives as aging baby boomers themselves.
- In "Retired with Husband" the reader is taken on a journey into uncharted territory for baby boomers who are settling into retirement. Rather than an ending, it is cited as a delightful adventure into second adulthood, with new guidelines. Humorous and Empowering!

Geared towards other superwomen, "Retired with Husband" is author Mary Louise Floyd's challenge for baby boomers to head into their second adulthood - life after retirement - with as much passion, skill and enthusiasm as they tackled their first adulthood.
According to Floyd, Superwoman refers to, "that woman who proved she could be wife, mother, housekeeper, gardener, cook, family social chairperson, volunteer and wage earner." She writes from her own experience. A self-professed Superwoman, Floyd is also a retired educator who is living with her retired attorney husband. Together, they are facing the transition into life after work, which inspired the subject of this book.
On the road to a fulfilling retirement couples are faced with a series of challenges along the way. One of the first goals Floyd sets for superwomen is to help their husbands find their new identity since they can no longer define themselves by what they do for a living. She says this transition is easier for most women because they are already living multi-dimensional lives. With this new stage will also come new friendships, as well as the need to work on existing relationships. Superwoman will have to help her husband communicate empathetically in order to nurture relations with parents, children and friends.
Floyd says retirement does not have to be a swift descent into old age and dotage. In fact, she insists it will mean just the opposite for her generation. She advises retirees to do everything they can to find their gifts and live their lives to the fullest, through healthy living, risk-taking, volunteering, part-time work, consultation positions - anything that will allows them to, "be all that you can be - and haven't been yet."
Throughout the book Floyd keeps her sense of humor, using wit and keen insight to highlight her observations and strategies. While this book focuses on how marriages can survive and thrive during the transition into retirement, Floyd also includes many interesting historical and societal facts that give context to why the baby boom generation is the way it is. Although her generalizations sometimes seem a little too sweeping and stereotypical, this context is helpful to the reader in that it shows where the commonalities come from.
"Retired with Husband" is not just for superwomen of retirement age. As a single, twenty-something Gen-X female, I found the book was an interesting guide to the mindset of my parents' generation and a forecast to my own future. It addresses how all generations can learn to understand and empathize with each other through open communication and shared interests. I recommend it for all the superwomen out there who are trying to make the most of their lives.
- This book was a waste of money and time reading. No help with retirement for us.
The book shows view point from one woman and not from her husband.
There are other books on the market that are of more help with this topic.
- RETIRED WITH HUSBAND by Mary Louise Floyd is Superwoman's New Challenge Defined. With the Baby Boomer generation reaching retirement age, senior years have to be redefined, and Floyd does so by naming the period Second Adulthood. Now that the pressure of having a career with demanding schedules and trying to balance home and family as well has ended, Superwoman does not settle for lolling around the house watching TV with a depressed husband who has nothing to do and feels demoted and useless. No! Her new challenge is to re-engineer her mate and their life by re-thinking retirement ideas and creating new challenges which her husband can command at home, entering a new career that makes her life easier and gives both partners time and energy for the fun things they have had to postpone until these years. The book has EXCELLENT ideas for putting the fun and energy into these years and creating the best time of life together. By all means, if you are retired or about to enter that phase of life, read this book! Her humorous tongue-in-cheek style make it fun to read, and her facts about the five decades of the Boomers' First Adulthood are insightful and interesting
