3 comments about Deepak Chopra Presents India Authentic Volume 2 (India Authentic).
  1. More mythological stories of Indian Gods. I like the idea of being able to learn from the indian mythology in this format, and the stories chosen are nice. Anyway, I much prefered the first one INDIAN AUTHENTIC, because the pace and feeling of the comic book was more beautiful and more beautifully written. In this comic book I enjoyed the story of Parashuram, because I loved how it was told (very much like the pace and feeling of the first INDIAN AUTHENTIC), and the definition of what a monster is and how it is made.

  2. Even though i thought the first issue was so much better, i still enjoyed reading about Pashuram and Garuda. Its a great issue to read for fun and even great for kids, so theyre not stuck in front of the tv rotting away their brains. If you bought the first and was so blown away, like I was.. just letting you know you might now find this one as amazing but finish reading it because its a bit lengthier in story material but i think its worth the purchase and to be added to your comic/book collection, this is an awesome choice to go with.

  3. I bought this title after I had read the thoroughly enjoyed Volume #1 of the series. This collection was, in a word, disappointment. The weakest link in the book is the writing. The stories are NOWHERE "Authentic" (Parashurama stopping his carnage after coming abreast a child?? Looks like a 'politically-correct' mashup for the non-Indian audience) as claimed, but at least the first volume had a brilliant and imaginative script. Here, the writers seems to have lost steam after being overtly creative for the first round.

My second peeve is with the artwork. The artwork just does not measure up to the first volume. Period. Nothing more to say.

I would recommend that readers first look through the issue in the libraries and then decide if they want to buy.

5 comments about Overcoming Addictions: The Spiritual Solution (Chopra, Deepak. Perfect Health Library.).
  1. I found this book to be enormously helpful. Unlike several reveiwers who didn't find a step-by-step approach, "Overcoming Addictions" seemed very clear in terms of actions to take. I've used the techniques and viewpoints expressed in the book and found it THE most helpful and effective approach to overcoming addictions I've seen yet. The problem is that you have to actually read the book and get the idea, instead of looking for lists of what to do. He treats you as an adult with a sound inner core. His view is that an addicted person is essentially trying to find joy and a degree of enlightenment. He honors the reader by saying that "using" is simply a misguided but understandable attempt to find union with the already existing inner child, the wise and joyful person who already exists. He explains the karmic cycle in clear terms and advises how to insert images, memories and real experiences into the cycle of addiction to supplant the old habit with new, positive ways to cope with life. His is a message of hope. It is not a method which punishes, negates or brands you with a label of "addict" for the rest of your life. This book, if read mindfully, can clear a way to a far happier life. As to specific techniques, he provides tips for yoga poses, food programs, questions to ask yourself and other advice. He advises mediation and gives several specific ways to use meditation and breathing exercises to increase mindfullness. His is a message of hope and positive action based on an understanding, very human and highly validating view of the addicted person.

  2. I would highly recommend this book, to any one who is going for the first time to overcome addictions. For me I have found out with this book that you can diminish greatly or completely eliminate addictions if you read it carefully, in detail and follow what Deepak Chopra is saying. Like I mentioned before it is the first step to recovery. I know that they are a lot of negative addictions out there like illegal drugs, alcohol, tobbacco, gambling and to much sex like a sex addict can also destoy lives. So if you really do want to take the first step to recovery I would recommend this book.

  3. Read the recommendations on the cover carefully. They are ALL for the author, NOT the book. There are good reasons the book is not recommended. It is not based upon research or even extensive personal experience with addicts. It is simply some off the cuff remarks by a famous person who does not understand addiction. I agree spirituality is the cornerstone of recovery and joy is needed, but it is not as simple as the author implies. His emphasis on psychoanalytic understanding of addiction is very outdated and has not led effective treatment.

  4. I can not recommend this book to someone that is trying to overcome an addiction. I could not find where the spiritual solution was in this book. Meditation, yoga...sure I would recommend these to anyone, but they are not a solution. What I did find in this book was the definition of what the author believed an addiction to be. There are some really good books out there on addiction and this is not one of them. In my opinion, look for books that give you information on how to get to your inner child. Books with information on expressing suppressed emotions.

  5. Another nice book with greate examples of origins of addiction and how we can control it. It is painful to look at the ill effects of addiction not only in us and in out loved ones. but this book completely changed the perspective.

3 comments about 100 Questions From My Child.
  1. Mallika provides useful, heartwarming, and profound questions from children in this book. As a parent, I often struggle to answer my children questions on spirituality or the reality of today's world -- Mommy, whats a bomb? How can I take care of Mother Earth? Will I meet God? She provides great insights in how to deal with some of these tough questions. I also loved the suggestions of questions to explore with your child. Bravo, Mallika, for another great book!

  2. I gave it to my sister to read and share while she was being induced. It was cute, insightful, and informative.

  3. This book answers many questions that I know my grandson will ask. It will be nice to actually have an answer for him that is logical. Again, the paper cover of this hardcover book had black lines on it. It looks like it was bound with a black rubber band or something similar. That was disappointing as it was a gift, but the book is great to read.

2 comments about Restful Sleep: The Complete Mind/Body Program for Overcoming Insomnia.
  1. I bought this book several years ago when I first became aware that I was having chronic problems with sleeping. I finally pulled it off my shelf about a month ago and read it. I have found it to be extremely helpful.

Chopra begins by encouraging the reader to consider the connection between waking life and sleeping life, and also the connection between our own biorythms and the rythms of nature.

He then writes about sleep and how to make it restful again rather than stressful. His style is very relaxed and easy to understand. He takes an ayurvedic (the ancient tradition of Indian medicine) approach to helping solve sleep disorders. I was not familiar with the ayurveda prior to reading this book, and really enjoyed learning a little bit about it. As a reader I did not feel that Chopra was trying to convert me, just help me. And - I feel that he did.

  2. I sometimes have trouble sleeping . . . not so much getting to sleep, but
staying asleep . . . so when I saw RESTFUL SLEEP by Deepak Chopra,
I jumped at the opportunity to listen to the program.

Subtitled THE COMPLETE MIND/BODY PROGRAM FOR OVERCOMING
INSOMNIA, it delivered a great deal of information . . . but this was not
surprising because Chopra tends to do that with every book and/or tape
he comes out with . . . in my opinion, this was one of his best.

I particularly liked how he backed up his ideas with insights from
Ayurevda, the ancient Indian science of life.

There were many tidbits I gained from listening; among them:
    * You can't force yourself to sleep.

    * Trying to sleep will not help; it will actually aggravate the
    insomnia.

    * Turn your clock to the wall. Don't be concerned with the time.

    * The solution to all sleep problems is making the period of being
    awake totally dynamic and satisfying.

    * Lunch should be your heaviest meal of the day.

    * Supper should be light and eaten early.

    * Take a short stroll after dinner.

    * Avoid watching TV at night. If you must, stop by 9 p.m.

    * Best to go asleep before 10 p.m., according to the rhythms of
    nature.

    * Rising earlier will lead to an earlier time for going to bed.

    * Wake up at a regular time every day.

    * Do reading in a room other than the bedroom.

    * Making your bed each day creates an orderly and harmonious
impression when you go to sleep.

    * Extract of lavender is considered helpful for sleep.

    * Ask yourself: Do you love your job? Are you really happy?
If "yes" to both those questions, then it is likely to will avoid
most heart and other health problems.

5 comments about Sixty Seconds: One Moment Changes Everything.
  1. Phil Bolsta's SIXTY SECONDS: ONE MOMENT CHANGES EVERYTHING, with a Foreword by Caroline Myss, is a wonderful companion to take along on anyone's spirit journey. The book's greatest virtues are its crackling brevity and exhilarating inspiration. It's designed for the breakneck pace of everyday life in western culture, and its design is agreeable and friendly.

But what makes the book a stand-out, and star, are the 45 stories of spiritual focusing and awakening by prominent authors, healers, teachers, and business people. Reading the account of Dr. Janis Amatuzio's life after death encounter during her hospital internship, or the incredible perseverance of Jim MacLaren and Dannion Brinkley, or the poignant, radiant accounts of living with imperiled children by James Autry and Sally Pederson, Frank Deford, and Mike Veeck, made me feel humble, reconnected to all of life, and grateful for my blessings and opportunities to be of service to others in this amazing life.

My personal favorites among these incandescent stories also include Donald Schnell's relationship with a young African-American fellow soldier and Zen practitioner, Toltec teacher Don José Luis's account of his blindness and restored eyesight, Jean Houston's effervescent mini-memoir of an awakening in childhood, Caroline Myss's fascinating relationship with an Indian mystic, and Deepak Chopra's uplifting revelations during his father's sacred cremation ritual. And, of course, I'm especially pleased to see the critical role that poetry plays in a healing revelation experienced by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

All of these stories remind us that we are all connected and not alone, that we need never fear death because where we're going is beautiful and, well, inevitable! Many stories share common visions, centered peace, and stillness. They are also brimming with companionship and community building. I'm grateful, for instance, to learn about the Twilight Brigade, which assists dying veterans, and the Trent Tucker Non-Profit Organization, which works with young people to shape more positive futures.

In every way, Phil Bolsta has put together a great soul-gift! I'm enjoying reading and re-reading it. I'm sharing these stories with friends, and I'm reading them to my children. I cannot recommend the experience of this beautiful book highly enough!

Robert McDowell, The Poetry Mentor, Bestselling author of POETRY AS SPIRITUAL PRACTICE: Reading, Writing, and Using Poetry in Your Daily Rituals, Aspirations, and Intentions (Free Press, July 2008), www.robertmcdowell.net

  2. Phil Bolsta has done his homework and the interviews that he has collected gives to the reader many different ways of looking at life's meaning.

In the same genre as the "Chicken Soup Series", Chicken Soup for the Soul "Sixty Seconds" gives us glimpses of the afterlife, the unconscious, the NOW and most importantly the sacredness of the world we live in and the sacredness of all the persons in our lives, starting with oneself.

Phil doesn't leave us dangling. After each story the author gives us information to further our search about the author and his/her way of life. Most have websites and you can find a wealth of spirituality and comfort in these pages.

Most of the interviews are from prominent figures, which have been courageous to share their stories with the readers. One of the most touching stories is from disabled triathlete Jim McLaren. Jim gives us the courage to change the things in our lives that need changing and not look back.

Hopefully in the future Phil will keep on collecting stories and share them with us.

  3. This is an intriguing and often uplifting book, and as each contribution is short, it's ideal for dipping into when you have a moment to spare. The contributors include spiritual teachers such as Caroline Myss, Joan Borysenko, Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, James Redfield, Gregg Braden, Deepak Chopra, and Bernie Siegel, along with people from other walks of life, including geneticist Francis Collins, movie producer Stephen Simon, and basketball star Trent Tucker. The experiences encompass visions, premonitions, out of body experiences, guardian angels, healings, and - above all - sudden moments of realization.

A recurrent idea I find in them is a falling away of the world we know to reveal a deeper reality within. It's as though we're on a theatrical stage, with cardboard scenery all around us. Then the scenery falls away to reveal the welcome and familiar sight of real hills, trees, and flowers which have been waiting there behind it all along.

  4. There's a pervasive and seductive belief that we can single-handedly restructure reality on our own terms, to conform to a preconceived and preferred plan of how our destiny should manifest. However, unexpected events invariably foil these well-crafted plans and thrust us in dramatically different directions - the central premise of Sixty Seconds.

Some of the Sixty-Second stories relate to pivotal and heartbreaking events, and while others are ostensibly less profound, what emerges is the truth that every moment carries significance when we awaken to the reality of its essential purpose. It's quietly listening to the inherent wisdom of the still small voice of a moment that graces us with a life-changing, liberating, and transformative opportunity - which might otherwise be overlooked or dismissed.

Sixty Seconds is a coveted invitation to a private party with 45 of the most extraordinary individuals, who share highly-personal and poignant stories of how unpredictable moments impacted their lives, forever changing them. Each storyteller's authentic voice animates an atmosphere of intimacy. I felt as though I were sharing privileged conversations with wise and trusted confidants.

But what actually renders these renowned and respected storytellers so extraordinary is their commitment to elevate their own ordinary events to a higher octave of meaning.

In addition to these magnificent, entertaining, and revealing stories, Sixty Seconds also features an elegant foreword by Caroline Myss, and wonderfully insightful commentary by Phil Bolsta that introduces each group of stories throughout the book.

Simply put, Sixty Seconds delivers a master class in wisdom that belies the simplicity of its humble title.

  5. Sixty Seconds - One Moment Changes Everything by Phil Bolsta is one of the most amazing books I have read. This book has a collection of inspirational stories 45 individuals ranging from athletes, spiritual authors to doctors and entrepreneurs. This book has opened my horizon about what inspiration truly mean to our journey in this Earth. I find myself reading through the book having moments of joy and sadness. The joyful stories tell us how to live our lives more fully. The sadness and pain certain stories shared gives us an eye opening experience of how the worst thing happened in this life time can be the best teacher. The most profound experience I have while reading I was reading these stories is that I felt I know these individuals more than I know some of my friends.

The book is sections as follows:
    * Glimpses into the Unknown - Life & Death Moments
    * Glimpses into the Unknown - Mysterious Moments
    * Living Life - Heartbreaking Moments
    * Living Life - Sacred Moment
    * Insightful Incidents - Life-Altering Moments
    * Insightful Incidents - Moments of Enlightenment

The beauty of this book is that if one is drawn to a particular story or the kind of work the person was being interviewed on, Phil Bolsta provided information for the readers to find out more about them. We all are on this special journey. It is great to see 45 sign-posts in this book to help us venture.

It is very hard for me to pick which stories I love the most because all of the stories either deepens what I have learned or widens my perspective of life.

If I truly have to pick, I would say James Autry and Sally Pederson's life-altering experience (their child who has autism) is one that stood up the most. Although I have not had children yet, I can deeply felt how this experience has changed this couple's life and their purpose. Sometimes life seems to take a wrong course to make us realize our soul purpose. For this couple, it is about championing for the disabled. For James Autry, it made him realize he wanted to be a better father by being physically and emotionally available to the child. I realize what a profound gift it is when the "seemingly worst thing" that happened in life has changed James Autry's heart to want to do the right thing for this child.

For me as a reader, this story broadened and widened my perspective about disability. How many times do we judge somebody who looks and moves a little different than we are? Then, offers "sympathy" to them and their family because they are different. Then we are scared to be connected to them because we do not understand (nor do we take the time to understand) their needs. We all are human beings that long for compassion and understanding from each other. Yet, many humans decide to use "sympathy" and "avoidance" to treat the so-called "disabled", refusing to see the Abled side of them. My learning lesson from this story is to commit myself to treat the so-called as "disabled" as "Abled", offering curiosity and compassion towards their lives. Nobody likes sympathy but everyone longs for understanding and compassion. That is what I learned out of this story.

To read this book, I suggest reading it from the chronologically because that seems to offer a deeper inspirational experience. I suggest reading it a couple stories at a time, soaking and reflecting on them. I do not suggest skimming over because it is really hard to have a deepening or inspirational experience that way.

Thank you for reading my review.

  1. I have known Deepak Chopra for a number of years and came across Don Miguel Ruiz through a friend. Their wisdom teaching is complementary and supplementary. The combination of both teachers in one package, spoken and sung by inspiring voices is a synergetic treasure!

  2. I feel both inspired and soothed while using this product. I listen often, sometimes as background music while working on my computer and sometimes at bedtime before falling sleep. I highly recommend this product.

  3. The CD does what it promised. Soft and varied musical themes as undertones to spoken affirmations. Unfortunately, it was not what I had expected, so I was disappointed. Not the fault of the CD, just a gap between my reading of the blurb and the intention of the producers

  4. These are great. The music and the inspirational statements. Easy to listen to as you drive. Uplifting.

5 comments about Grow Younger, Live Longer: Ten Steps to Reverse Aging.
  1. This book is a true gem! It's recommended reading for everybody who is interested in feeling better, healthier and looking younger. The book offers a 10-step program to achieving this, and is written in a nicely, loving and easy to understand way.
The negative reviews here on amazon are coming from people who never devoted any time to practicing the exercises in this book. Anyone who has spend some time doing the exercises can account for the splendid results they produce!
So if you are looking for a well written and practical guide to health, youth and joy, read this book.
And for those of you who want a good laugh, go to Master Hoax Elixxer's (the guy who is writing his own positive reviews on amazon because no sane person will) website. It's amazing how much BS can fit in one website...

  2. The message within the pages of Grow Younger, Live Longer is nothing short of transformational! Practical, easy to follow, result oriented ways to live a long, healthy life. Chapters cover a wide variety of topics including, sleep/daily routine, diet, exercise, creativity, flexibility, and mind/body/spirit balance to name a few. There is also a selection of delicious, nutritious recipes that leave the reader wanting more.

A personal story: I had the pleasure of meeting (and having my picture taken with) Dr. Deepak Chopra at a presentation he delivered as part of the promotional tour for this book. After hearing the lecture and reading the book, I finally found the courage and inspiration to finish my own book. Give Dr. Chopra a chance to show you how to Grow Younger, Live Longer.... you won't be disappointed!

    [...]

  3. I took the audio program of this book out from my library due to sheer curiosity and since then have bought the book in print because I though it would be easier to use it as a reference that way.

I have many of Dr. Chopra's audio tapes and while I don't take everything he says at face value I try to stay open to what he says on any given program and judge the material for it's own merits.

Of course Dr. Chopra's popularity as a "Pop Culture Guru" can make it tempting to take him less seriously and write off anything he does as just another way for him to make a buck. Sometimes I myself feel this way due to the "factory-like" volume of materials that have come out under his authorship. Also, I do find that Deepak can get somewhat repetitive in much of his talk about "Cybernetic Feedback Loops" and the like :)

Still, I always feel that if there's even one idea that can be helpful it is worth the effort and I generally get some benefit out of Deepak's work which is what led me to check this out.

What I found on this particular program was a lot of good advice for living a healthier and less stressful life. While I'm not a scientist, it seems quite obvious that anyone with a brain and common sense would realize that if you actually follow the advice given on this program you could only realize tremendous benefits on many levels.

Perhaps the only thing that might be considered "hocus pocus" by the mainstream medical community is Dr. Chopra's use of affirmations. While I'm generally not personally drawn to use affirmations , I would have to at least admit that if an affirmation helps one to focus on something positive rather than something negative it certainly can't hurt.

As far as the claims of a program like this making you live longer, who knows, BUT it seems quite clear to me that if you follow this program you will in the least feel better during whatever time you do have. Not only that, it seems pretty logical that if you do follow the useful advice on this program and therefore improve your overall physical and mental well being that it should translate into having a longer life than if you didn't follow the advice, and there is a LOT of practical and sound advice here.

I would be wary of some of the obviously jaded and arrogant scientific criticism that I read in previous reviews listed here concerning this book. My experience with the book is that those criticisms didn't ring true. While I can understand their concerns that this book may make some bold claims which they don't feel are scientifically proven, in general it appears that scientists seem to have a very narrow window that they look through and if it doesn't fit their world view then they think it's false.

The danger is that they think their world view is one based on facts, but perhaps they fail to realize or admit that they are limited by their current level of understanding, methods and equipment.

It wasn't so long ago that Newton was THE voice of physics and Quantum physics didn't exist as a scientific discipline. It wasn't so long ago that Galileo was given quite a hard time for views that are obvious to us now. There are other world views out there, that are equally valid. There are also many other approaches to well being that have been working for thousands of years, long before there was the American Medical Association and the like.

Likewise it also always amazes me how many doctors like to write off certain healing anomalies as a "placebo effect". What they fail to admit is that the whole notion of a "placebo effect" in and of itself is quite miraculous and shows that there are possibilities beyond what many Western doctors and scientists would like to admit is possible. Just because they can't quantify it doesn't make it invalid.

    All that being said :)

Aside from the "Affirmations", this book is actually very grounded and filled with excellent and practical advice and one doesn't need to have a Ph.D. in aging to realize it's benefits. Anyone who "has a body" and common sense can benefit by good nutrition, exercise and stress reduction and therefore can benefit by the information in this program.

This book IS by the way co-authored by two doctors, one of which is Dr. David Simon. Dr. Simon was trained in neurology but came to feel the limitations of Western medicine as a sole healing modality. His search has led him to an integrative approach utilizing the best of so called "Conventional" and "Alternative" disciplines.

I am currently reading two of his books "Vital Energy" and "Wisdom of Healing" which are excellent. I was first exposed to Dr. Simon through a 12 tape audio program he did with Deepak Chopra called "Training the mind, Healing the Body" which is fascinating and very helpful. I was deeply impressed with Dr. Simon's deep knowledge, obvious sincerity, and compassion. After encountering that program I started searching out more of his materials which have all been outstanding!

  4. If your following that path to Holistic Health and want a book that tells it all, here it is... You will find this book as a useful tool incorporating Nutrition, Yoga and many other tips on how to simply feel good and in turn start to look good! It is absolutely fabulous, easy reading, and very informative from a "Scientific" medical standpoint.

  5. Deepak Chopra is Great and so is this book! This is a Fabulous book! A must read for anyone !
