2 comments about Air Pollution Engineering Manual.
  1. This book has the most extense inventory, sector by sector, of data related to processes, emissions and control techniques. Therefore, we have here a major supply of guidelines and useful information for our work in our everyday struggle to "play doctors" with our own planet.

  2. The only complaint I might have with this book is the format, it's a big book, and given how often I need it, a smaller handbook (like the CRC handbook) would be more convenient. But then that might hurt the readability.

The book itself however is awesome, comprehensive, readable, plenty of illustrations, minimum of jargon, and useful for engineers and scientists.

5 comments about Outboard Engines: Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Repair.
  1. I'm currently enrolled in a two year program that will certify me as a marine technical specialist. This book supplements provided course materials and has also been used as a text in the class which covers all aspects of marine repair. Any questions that I have and forget to ask in classes are easily, or sometimes not too easily, answered by this book. The author pays strict attention to detail and doesn't waste space with words. He gets right to the meat and potatoes of the issues, procedures and general mechanics of maintaining, trouble shooting and repairing all aspects of the outboard motor. There aren't a lot of big, fancy industry terms that sound overly scientific. Each chapter is concluded with a few pages worth of review questions meant to pound the real important stuff into your head in a way that is easily understood. There is not one area of marine repair concerning an outboard motor that isn't covered here, from total rebuilds to simple maintenance. Top to bottom, front to back, this book covers the outboard motor completely and is a must have in any serious mechanic's toolbox.

  2. Great book with indepth explanations and step by step troublshooting procedures. Lots of Illustrations and techniques. Easy to follow tips and techniques. A pleasure to read. Written from the novice point of view.

  3. This book is okay as an introduction to how outboards work, but if you know anything about mechanics, I'd recommend you forego this and just buy a factory repair manual for your engine - as this book is frustrating in its lack of detail.

  4. The book is very helpful, especially for diagnosing motor problems.
This book combined with the specific repair manual for your year, make model is all you need.

  5. In reading over Boating Magazine's Outboard engines, I found the book to be very excellent for the person who wants to try to learn about their outboard. Now if you need specific info. than you need to get a service manual for your particular engine.
On the whole I thought the book was well illustrated and done by very knowledgeable writer(s).
I highly recommend this book for a novice boat engine owner.

1 comments about Watch Officer's Guide: A Handbook for All Deck Watch Officers.
  1. "Watch Officer's Guide" is a goldmine of information for the newly commissioned naval officer, and will provide him/her with a safe passage through the rocks and shoals of a junior officer assigned to a ship for the first time, or one who is seeking qualification as on OOD. This book is also for the civilian who has a genuine interest in the ships, aircraft, practices and traditions of the United States Navy.

3 comments about John Deere: A History of the Tractor.
  1. I really enjoy this book. It looks great, it reads great, and it's chock full of good information about the tractors, but also about the business and its history.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves John Deere machinery, but also wants to know more about the company's history in the tractor business.

  2. The book was more than I expected. The photos were of very high quality. The print was of excellent size. The paper and binding were of quality.
I was surprised on how fast I received the book. It was well packed and arrived in mint condition.

3 comments about The Real Insider's Guide to Military Basic Training: A Recruit's Guide of Advice and Hints to Make It Through Boot Camp.
  1. I'm not much on writing long reviews, but I thought this little book was worth it because it helped me. Finally, of the few books out there regarding what to expect during basic training, this book is the best and most current. I've read the other two (including Mr. Thompson's first edition) and can say with certainty this book (2nd edition) is highly informative and insightful. You can even e-mail the author for more info. The best advice, don't trust just one book or just one source for your information.
I ended up not enlisting for full time service, but still considering the Reserves. I'm glad I had this book to make an informed decision.
Good luck if you are going in!

  2. At 31, I was considering the military. I thought it would be something to join and have a job. However, this book gave me the inside of what REALLY goes on in the military, Good and Bad. For me , this book really helped in making my decision.

  3. I have to say that I was very disappointed in this book. I am currently in the Air Force awaiting my shipping date to basic training. I was looking for some insight on BMT and thought this book sounded good. From my prespective, I thought this book would be a general BMT guide that incases training for ALL of the branches, but sadly, the author was a soldier, and he only really wrote this book for the Army recruits. (Okay so I guess I didn't see that part of the original review that said "mainly for Army and Marine Corps Basic".. oops, but I thought maybe some of you would miss that too...) I know the author must have meant well, but come on, Im joining the Air Force, our boot camp is much sorter and we do lots of different things compaired to the Army, considering we are NOT a ground force. I think the main thing that threw me off about this book was the title, its says "The Real Insiders Guide to BASIC MILITARY TRAINING". I guess Im just disappointed that there isn't a book out there that is more inclusive of all the branches. I did learn a few things I can use to my advantage, like how to survive the gas chamber as much as possible, and a few other insiders secrets to survival... but the Army and the Air Force are like night and day, and I was just hoping for a more broad guide than a branch specific guide. If you are enlisted in, or just considering the Army this is an excellent book for you, however if you are going into the Navy, Coast Guard, or Air Force, please dont buy this book. Go to your local library and check it out. If they dont have it, most libraries will put in a request to get it. This book is okay to read for a few hints, but if you are in one of the other branches listed above I wouldn't recommend spending money on this book.

5 comments about Get Your Captain's License.
  1. This new 3rd edition is better than the fist two. It is not a complete guide to all you need to learn to test for a USCG License, but it is a good base. There are still a few corrections needed in the rules that should have been updated for this 3rd edition and not all the study text agrees with the USCG questions. The CD tests is okay for review and gives a good feel of what needs to be studiedfor the USCG exams. Over all makes a great referance and should help anyone looking for a lower level license.

  2. This text is great and the CD-ROM which lets u take and review practice tests may even better. I was surprised at the effectiveness of the text. All the material was presented in sufficient detail to answer your questions, but no not so detailed as to be burdensome as a college degree. The end result for me was a perfect score on all four sections of the test, but I took a LOT of practice tests. YOU NEED THIS BOOK & CD!

  3. I'm still reading this book, but so far it's written really well. It's a text book, so it reads like a text book. I have every bit of confidence that'll pass my test after completing this course.

The software is really good too.

    Good Luck!
    Ken Vadnais

  4. I have looked at a lot of materials on obtaining a Captain's License, and this book is, by far, the best. The material is well-organized, complete and easy to understand and master. Before getting the book, I looked at some reviews, but at least some of them appear to refer to an earlier edition ("just quesetions for the test") -- the Third Edition (at least) has exceedingly helpful and worthwhile explanatory text, that works though the topics on the Coast Guard test and provides both useable information and aswers to the questions, which also are included in this impressive volume. For anyone who wants to take the Coast Guard test or who just wants to greatly expand his or her knowledge of all things nautical, I strongly recommend "Get Your Captain's License (Third Edition)".

  5. This book is horrible. I have my masters license and have been a working as a 200 ton captain for 7 years. I used this book back when I was studying and hated it and now I am helping a friend study. This book is VERY incomplete and missing a TON of needed information. It also contains material that is not necessary for a 100 ton or smaller license.
The book is not thorough, and it is not complete. You will NOT learn the required material or pass your exams by using this book alone. Well, you might pass....but thats only because you were able to memorize the answers to the questions this book didnt bother to even touch on..

Its too bad there isnt another source because this book is terrible.

NOTE TO THE PUBLISHER (should you read this) - review, outline, and explain each type of question. Their are far too many questions that are not intuitive that you omitted from your chapters. How are students supposed to answers the questions and understand the material of you skip it. Go through each and every question and make sure it can be cross referenced IN YOUR BOOK.

5 comments about Fundamentals of Stack Gas Dispersion.
  1. Mr. Beychok's book is an excellent reference source and working tool for any engineer interested in stack gas dispersion. I have had occasion to use this book for unusual problems such as flare upsets with aerosol release and found it to be easily used. An especially valuable aspect of the book is its careful development of all data and equations for dispersion models. I highly recommend this book for anyone performing or interested in understanding dispersion.

  2. As the author of this book, I am admittedly biased ... but in all candor I do believe that it is the most comprehensive book available on the subject of air pollution dispersion modeling. I would also like to point out that the book is not out of print nor is it limited in availability. It is completely available at www.amazon.com (but not at www.amazon.ca).

  3. I recently purchased a new copy of this book from the Market Place at www.amazon.com and it is, by far, the best book I've seen on the subject of air pollution dispersion modeling. I highly recommend it.

  4. .
This book book is an excellent reference source and working tool for any engineer interested in learning about air pollution dispersion modeling.

It offers easy to understand explanations of very complex subjects and is very well organized. It starts from basic fundamentals and takes the reader through the different aspects of dispersion modeling in simple, easy to understand terms. There are also a good many example problems, worked out in complete detail, which are excellent learning tools.

  5. I recently purchased this book from www.amazon.com (it wasn't available on www.amazon.ca for some reason) and it is absolutely the best technical book that I have ever read. Everything is explained very simply and very clearly. The example calculations were very helpful. The shipment was very prompt and the book arrived in excellent condition.
