5 comments about Designing with Web Standards (2nd Edition).
  1. It's a very good book, and one I'd recommend to any developer who is trying to make the switch from tables to CSS-based code and standards, but if you've been using standards in your work for a while this book will only tell you things you already know.

However, Zeldman's tone is always light and engaging, and sometimes it's good to have a little refresher.

5* if you're new to web standards
    4* otherwise

  2. I found it a very interesting book to read but it didn't give as much of concrete situation analysis as I expected. It surely convinced me to embrace techniques for the visually impaired and textual devices.

  3. This book is a must read for anyone associated with a website. Designer, developer, manager.

  4. This was a groundbreaking work when first written. Zeldman was one of the early advocates for web standards and especially browser standards for CSS, what is now the underpinning of most quality websites. Without his work, and that of a few others (Eric Meyer among them), the web would not look quite as well as it does, and the design code would not be kept as separate from the content.

If you are already using CSS in your web pages, this book will be below your knowledge level and unnecessary to creating sites. If you are new to CSS, it is a kind, gentle, and thoroughly explicating introduction. It is a pleasant and easy read. It doesn't lay out dozens of ways to do things, but it explains a methodology and the raison d'etre. It is a must read introduction if you are contemplating a switch to CSS. Zeldman's website at zeldman.com is also useful support for this undertaking.

  5. Is this Kindle edition price accurately listed? $20 seems a lot to ask for an edition that has $0 resale value. Is there something in this Kindle version that outshines the majority of other Kindle books? From the sample, I see a poorly formatted TOC, and no index (or "searchable terms" index alternative). I think the author and/or publisher should reconsider this listing.

5 comments about Mechanical Measurements (6th Edition).
  1. This book was assigned to me as part of a college mechanical engineering course. This book was hard to follow and strayed from the course description. It contains aspects of electronics and mechanical design where the math problems are not fully explained and worked out and the machine descriptions are extremely brief. It is possible to get an education out this book, but a person would really have to strain. If you buy this book, I recommend that you get a generic study guide to accompany it.

  2. This text provides a good, basic overview of methods for measuring several physical phenomena. The treatment of most of these is average. However, thermal measurement is given an improved, more thorough coverage. Personally, I have primarily used this text as a reference and guide for Chapter 3: Assessing and Presenting Experimental Data. I have found the sections on Error and, especially, Uncertainty to be very instructive and practical for use during college and post-graduation (as a mechanical engineer in research and development).

  3. The authors, in their new 6th edition of Mechanical Measurements, have overhauled most of the book. The new edition is much improved and makes great reference book for various measurement techniques. Very well-indexed.

  4. This book is absolutely useless for college level students. It DOES NOT explains problems in detail and you would have to spend hours in understanding what they are trying to do.
Absolutely CRAPY book. I WONT recomment this to anyone

  5. This book is just terrible. No examples, unrelated problems, and poorly written text is all you will find.

Example: One question asks you to refer to you 'basic vibration textbook' to find out how to do the problem (as they do not explain in the book). What is the point of questions like this?

Also many times you will find yourself staring in awe at the wording in this book. There are many sentences written so poorly that they simply have no meaning.

5 comments about The Strip-Built Sea Kayak: Three Rugged, Beautiful Boats You Can Build.
  1. With all the rave reviews already stated, I add my own.

Mr. Schade will break your heart in the very introduction of the book; at this moment you will come to understand the true dedication of this author to his craft (and love for his wife). Then there is a descent into the inner secrets of this craft that he loves. As an accomplished gymnast, he will certainly make this kayak-building appear easy, almost too easy, and yet the details are in place to convince you that, yes, you can do it yourself.

You have to pinch yourself to bring yourself back to the reality that you will spend many hours building this kayak, that it will cost you quite a bit, and that the process is not as easy as it looks. Then stop pinching yourself and start planning; the reality is that you can do it!

There are a few gaps in the details that I had to think my way through, but none of these gaps are intentional. In fact, these opportunities are more exciting than aggravating.

This is not the only good resource available for learning the strip-building technique. I am already modifying Mr. Schade's designs to include elements provided elsewhere, as he would even encourage himself. On the other hand, this book is all you need to make a great kayak, and the information in this book is superior to anything that I have seen elsewhere.

I would recommend this book even to those who never plan on building a kayak if for no other reason than to appreciate this fine art of shipbuilding.

  2. This is a very good book. Schade's style is very easygoing and informative. A pleasure to read and learn from.

  3. Nick Shade is an artist, not a woodworker. He doesn't fret over minute details, or force you to make things perfect. But his designs are positively gorgeous. Since his book is a recent print, he covers many aspects of construction the older books do not cover, and many of the ideas are his own and are used professionally on the curent market. He does not cover everything, and if you want to find out the most recent developments as far as boatbuilding, you have to subscribe to the blogs online. (such as on Ted Moores' site). He is not as clear as Ted Moores in KayakCraft, but sometimes has more ideas. I suggest to buy both and visit all the websites.

  4. I have learned all the needed information required to build a Strip kayak.

Yet! the kayak plans in the book are not good enough for building a kayak. Purchase plans separately!

  5. If you enjoy woodworking and want to build a beautiful, lightweight, high-performance sea-kayak for a fraction of what it would cost to purchase a similar boat, this is the reference for you. The book is well written and illustrated and provides enough detail to complete a project from start to finish. An excellent reference (5*).

5 comments about 2006 International Plumbing Code - Softcover Version (International Plumbing Code).
  1. with 148, the book didn't really go into detail into why some of the codes were wrote certain ways. I've read many other code book and they offer explanation into why its a certain way. This book doesn't make the code relatable so its going to feel cold to read, just bare details.

  2. The "code", in this case plumbing, is essentially an overpriced, legal document.

Most states have created their own version of plumbing code with many, major municipalities adding restrictions at local levels.

In a perfect world, "the" plumbing code would rigorously define a system of best practices - this "International," plumbing code reflects insurance companies' interests in establishing a safe and reasonably, low level of liability.

The "code" is written by attorney's in cooperation with plumbers, builders, supplier's of materials and various, other, self interest groups.

It is vague, possesses no visual representations, poorly indexed, unreferenced and in many cases a hinderance to the adoption of new materials and design.

It makes more sense to purchase a copy of your state or local municipality's plumbing code. In most cases, the local codes are available and inexpensive. Periodic updates are usually available for a modest fee. The sad part is that most local codes explain very little and are poor substitutes for books oriented towards plumbing system design or repairs.

Because there is no popular movement to make the code "more accessible -" we are stuck with it.

    It is what it is!

  3. Interesting the similarities between the last Virginia Plumbing Code and the first International Plumbing code, eh? It's not coincidence.

It appears that the "International Code Council"... located in Virginia, no less... had a stroke of brilliance. They produced a gem of a name for their book- the "International" Plumbing Code. What? They using these codes in Mexico? Ecuador? France?

A good name sells anything. This book is a ridiculous reduction of plumbing codes, stuffed into a few pages. It's obvious very few contemporary issues are addressed. Unfortunately, bureaucrats aren't plumbers... which is why several states have adopted it as their new gospel on plumbing, and the International Code Council's dreams are becoming reailty. I've had multiple discussions with individuals "just so excited that someone finally took up the task to umbrella "all" the plumbing codes into one national code... so we can all be on the same page now... like the National Electrical Code!"

    Absolutely hysterical

  4. Hey people, aren't computers smart? Amazon wants me to review a code book. What the f@#$. It's needed in my job. That's why I bought it.

  5. I never did recieve the item. I want a full refund and additional credits if you ever want me to buy from you again. I had to buy the book at Barnes and Noble for Retail price after I waited 2 weeks on the 2006 IPC. I took the Master Plumbing test July 12th and because of this I had minimal study time. Thanks Amazon!!

5 comments about Master Handbook of Acoustics.
  1. A great book, but can be too advanced for some. A lot of physics is included - which is great - but perhaps some previous knowledge or some side reading is a good idea.

Over all, excellent book, and a goldmine to buy.

  2. There are two common definitions of the word "acoustics." The most general is "an area of physics dealing with sound and sound waves" and the second is "the qualities of a room that determine audibility and fidelity of sound in it." This book is a very good reference for the latter, but if you're looking for the former, look elsewhere. Also, I'm not sure I would describe it as a Handbook, but rather as a reference text.

It is good for what it does cover and is relatively easy to read.

  3. I have found this a very usefull and well written book. It is being used as a reference for a college course I am studying. It does require some knowledge of electronic principles but is clear and understandable. I would recommend it to any serious student of sound and acoustics.

  4. this book is an excellent overview and introspection into the world of usable acoustics. it tends to focus on the applicable, everyday world of acoustics instead of the completely theoretical--which was a huge help in my Church production job.
i highly recommend it as a reference text and background book to anyone in music production.

  5. I haven't read the whole book, but from the excerpts I have read, Everest covers a very broad range of topics at at least an acceptable level. Any related topic I've wanted to look up so far has good and relevant material. I'd call this best studio/acoustics design reference book I've seen so far. Well worth the price.

5 comments about Seeds of Destruction: The Hidden Agenda of Genetic Manipulation.
  1. Engdahl lays bare the partnership between government, the major foundations and the agribusiness industry in their eternal quest for global domination with extensive citations, tying it all together well. The Rockefellers do not shine with this exposure. This book is a sobering analysis of the situation we are facing with respect to destruction of the globe's biodiversity and the indigenous and cultural knowledge of how to feed ourselves, all for the sake of a scheme to lock in profits by a handful of corporations and a government that works on their behalf. If you're already down about what's going on, this book is not for you. If you can handle the reality of the situation, definitely read it. This threat is greater than any threat of nuclear destruction by far. Whatever your feelings on overpopulation, the schemes he lays out, developed by the Rockefeller foundation, are truly disturbing. Especially so are the contraceptive corn and incorporation of hCG into a tetanus vaccine(resulting in sterility) given out in enormous numbers to women of childbearing age in Mexico, Phillipines and Nicaragua. This book will make you want to collect seeds on everything you bring into your kitchen from now on, to say nothing of making you not want to eat anything of which you do not know the provenance.

  2. William Engdahl's new book, like his 'Century of War' book of a few years ago gives the layman like myself an understand of complex subjects that is rare with authors dealing with complex subjects. This is such a readable book. It is a great investigation into one of the most important issues of our times: The attempts by a few powerful groups to control the world's food supply. This book made me angry and worried for the future of our food supply and our future as a free (sort of) people. How dare our government leaders allow this !
Every person who cares about where their food comes from, truth in labeling, nutrition, health and affordable access to food supplies NEEDS to know this information. Is there a more important issue? What is more important than water, air and food ? The political agenda of food control, so well explained in this book, is more than a little chilling.

Seeds of Destruction should be read widely and it's information talked about by everyone. As a mother trying to feed my family healthy, nutritious meals everyday, this information is invaluable. Thank you Mr. Engdahl for this well written book! Maybe I'll read it to my children at night so they'll grow up knowing who the boogie men are!
Lori "The Rogue Reader Mom" Arizona

  3. This is an excellent book that explains the threat of GMO foods.
    Very good research.

  4. This is my first Amazon.com book review and it is this book, Seeds of Destruction, that finally moved me to write such a review.

I have purchased literally thousands of dollars worth of books from Amazon.com alone and I find this book, Seeds of Destruction, is THE most important book I have come across.

I haven't read the entire book yet, but from what I have read so far (especially the chapter on Argentina), this is one of THE most important and timely books of the past 100 years and this new century.

There are only a few books that are worth their weight in gold and this book by F. William Engdahl is one of them. This work will be remembered as a "signature service" to humanity (a term used in the intelligence world to denote exceptional work).

What a priceless work of research and documentation (some 17 years of hard research) into the heart of absolute Evil that is masquerading behind this GMO movement--the veritable cancer that is metastasizing upon the Earth body--and that has been behind the so-called eugenics movement since 1913. But this book is much more than GMO. It is about the people behind the GMO and eugenics movement and why they are doing what they are doing.

If you really care about your children, your family, and the survival of the human race and of planet earth, then you must first buy and read this book, and then buy 10 more copies as I did and give them to all your friends and family members.

Tell them that this book might save their lives.

I have said this many times, "Knowledge is only a seed, only illumined action produces fruits!' This book is that vital seed without which we are looking toward to some really dire eventualities.

  5. This book seems at first glance to be primarily about genetically modified organisms (GMO), but is actually a frightening history of the power elite's largely successful attempt to gain control over food and food production. In the last 50 years food has gone from being an agricultural product grown by small farmers, to being a national security concern, to now being a weaponized commodity under the control of a few corporate owners.

Mr. Engdahl lays out his case in a methodical, scholarly, yet riveting manner, much as he did in A Century Of War: Anglo-American Oil Politics and the New World Order. He begins with the GMO Revolution launched by a few powerful corporations, aided and abetted by a cooperative USA government. He then explores the birth of "agribusiness" and the oxymoronic Green Revolution. He monitors the revolving door between corporate advocates of GMO and government officials charged with policing food safety. The Rockefeller brothers' roles in these machinations are painstakingly revealed.

The eugenics movement -- very popular in early to mid-20th century USA until the Nazis lowered its public acceptance -- is shown to be alive and well under the new guises of genetics and molecular biology. I was more surprised by this than anything else in the book, but Mr. Engdahl proves this point beyond dispute. Along these lines, the only part of the book that I felt needed more explanation was the role of Darwinism, actually neo-Darwinism, in molecular biology. One could almost be left with the impression that a belief in evolution has led to the abuses of molecular biology in genetic manipulation. Once Mr. Engdahl got that far into the discussion, I wish that he had made a brief mention of the symbiogenesis interpretation of evolution now challenging the neo-Darwinists, e.g., in the books by Lynn Margulis. (Acquiring Genomes: The Theory of the Origins of the Species is one good example.) I'm not a scientist, but I would tend to think that a subscriber to the symbiogenesis interpretation would be less likely to want to create Frankenfoods.

What motivates the Genetic Manipulators, huge profits and control over the world's food production? As usual with the power elite, it's not just about the money, it's about power and control, but with a particular goal in mind. That goal is an elitist Utopia; a modern world much as it is, only with a whole lot fewer people, especially poor dark-skinned people who live in resource rich places like Africa, South America and parts of Asia. Complete control over food production is one of the primary means to this end, ethno-specific diseases being another. I had read this assertion before, but regarded it as the rantings of right-wing loonies until I read this book.

Mr. Engdahl is a regular contributor to on-line journals on the topic of geopolitics.

3 comments about Introduction To Sound: Acoustics for the Hearing and Speech Sciences (Singular Textbook Series).
  1. A bit of a challenge to read at times, but great for use as a reference. Covers more than the basics of sound transmission and all the associated physical science. Concepts are clearly and thoroughly explained. If you like the hard facts all the math you could ever hope to have is here - and if you don't like the math it's easy to ignore without losing the message. I'm glad to have the book and equally glad it wasn't my required text for Hearing Science.

  2. I was required to buy and basically memorize this entire book for class and it was very good; i learned more than the basics, that's for sure. However, my classmates thought it was a little cut and dry and that some parts were a tad confusing.

  3. I RECEIVED THE BOOK VERY SPEEDILY AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. HOWEVER, AFTER USING THE BOOK A FEW TIMES FOR STUDYING, I NOTICED SOME OF THE PAGES WERE GETTING LOOSED AND WERE BEGINNING TO FALL OUT. OTHER THAN THAT, I AM PLEASED BECAUSE THE BOOK IS VERY EASY TO FOLLOW.

5 comments about Boston's Gun Bible.
  1. Boston T. Party is a pen-name for Kenneth W. Royce, a libertarian author of several non-fiction books. In his firearms reference manual, Boston's Gun Bible, the author pours out his knowledge of guns, but apparently does not bother to employ either a ghost writer or editor.

A basic knowledge of firearms is assumed by the author however, the first chapter does cover terminology. Later chapters include Women and Guns, Rating the Battle Rifles, Rating the Battle Carbines, How to Buy, Sell & Trade and You & the BATF. Also included are chapters or sections covering individual rifles and pistols. Based on the information provided, I would give the book five stars.

There is a detailed table of contents, but no index. The pages are number in the military style, chapter/page, so if you are on the tenth page of chapter four it would read 4/10. One reviewer mentioned the book had 848 pages. I have not counted.

The writing style varies unevenly from technical to conversational, sprinkled with wit and occasional sarcasm. Fonts, font size, italics and bolding seem to change at the whim of the author. This does detract from a five star rating. However if you want basic information and opinion based upon experience about modern firearms and accessories as well as rankings and comparisons between different makes and models, this is a good buy.

Recommendation: If you have one or two guns and are interested in expanding both your knowledge and your collection I recommend Boston's Gun Bible as an easy to read reference manual.

    Kyle Pratt

  2. This book gives the best information about the technical specifications and advantages of different guns than any other I have ever seen. It also gives a lot of information regarding the law, your rights, and which states are gun-friendly. There are also substantial portions of the author's philosophy written about in the book. Kenneth Royce is truly an expert on the subject of guns, and this book has changed my way of thinking forever. The most valuable part of the book, I believe, is the section dealing with the advantages and disadvantages of various guns. He thoroughly exhausted that subject. I recommend this book for everyone, not just gun owners. If you are a gun owner, I guarantee that this book will have some information you can use. If you're planning on becoming a gun owner, this book will help you decide which gun to buy first. If you're not sure, I believe this book will convince you you need a gun. If you are anti-gun, this book may very well change your mind-- if not with its philosophy, then with its statistics.

In the title of my review, I mentioned that there is some impractical advice in the book. Mr. Royce strongly encourages everyone to devote a major portion of their life and money to purchasing and training with guns. While it's fine to talk about different training ranches and expensive guns, Royce goes so far as to imply that if you don't do this, you're a fool. In reference to people who say that they can't afford a multi-thousand dollar sniper rifle, he responds, "how much protection can you afford not to have? Save money in other areas so you have enough to purchase guns." He says basically the same thing about expensive gun training courses offered by Thunder Ranch and others. It's the arrogance of his statements which really bother me. I don't know how Royce makes a living (I doubt that much of his income comes from books), but normal people have families to feed, and simply cannot afford to buy a $6,000 Barrett because the USA is an expensive country and people with normal jobs don't make that much money. He also says that there are two kinds of people in an army: riflemen and cooks, and refers to those firearms owners who aren't expert riflemen as "cooks" (his criteria for graduating from "cook" status is in the book). Not everyone can be Carlos Hathcock. His attitude throughout the book brings the term "gun snob" to mind, and really put me off after I thought about it for a while. From reading this book, I'm sure Mr. Royce thinks very highly of himself.

Although his superior attitude offends me, most of his statistics about crime are hard to argue with, most of his philosophy makes sense, and I certainly can't knock the technical information contained in Boston's Gun Bible. Again, this is a must read. Buy this book NOW.

  3. This is one book I would honestly recommend for everyone. If you are a gun owner and have not read this book you must at once. If you plan on buying a gun at any point you need this book. Without a doubt the best single book on the subject of firearm ownership.

  4. I got this book due to recommendations from many excellent websites and other authors whom I know to stand for Freedom and Liberty as established by our Founding Fathers and the many excellent riflemen who fought the Revolutionary War and all the men who have fought in subsequent wars to preserve our Constitution. What I got was a super bargain for the price. It is enlarged from the original by some 200 pages and reads so fast and easy that it is phenomenal. He gives the reader a good Index of terms/acronyms that you will use. It is located in the front of the book and is easy to refer back to when necessary. Aside from that, this guy gives you history, heritage, explanations on WHY we need to protect ourselves, especially from over zealous liberals who want to remove our 2nd Amendment Rights and who keep bogging us down with "Regulations" in effort to try and take our guns away. You get reviews of rifles, handguns, shotguns in as much depth as you could wish for from a man who knows what he is talking about. He brings in views from "experts" in many areas and topics to back up what he is trying to explain to you.

You cannot go wrong with BTP. He's right for every FREEDOM LOVING person in the U.S. If you are a Liberal and are against anyone except the police and military having guns, then you are going to find yourself very much abused in this book for being already enslaved and under control of other people who think they know what is best for you, regardless of what you think about it.

I must emphasize one very outstanding focus BTP makes in this book. He has a fully detailed section for Women and how they need to protect themselves. He helps with gun selections and other protective means.

Lastly, he gives you resource referral information on where to go to get what, things to watch (videos, movies), books to read, and important names/addresses/contact info, website addresses, etc.,on other resources including within the government. This is a super resource and learning book that is very timely in this day and time when it looks like we may be faced with some kind of issues in self protection/survival from terrorists, bad governmental agents, or people who want to bring you and your family harm. It will lift your "Freedom Loving" spirits in showing you how YOU can survive and how you MUST protect yourself and your family. I find myself picking it up and rereading here and there all the time. It is almost a daily thing to review something or some section in my Gun Bible and get Boston's views on it again. I found this as one of the best ever books I've ever owned and it is definitely very inspirational to this old Constitutionalist who feels that his freedoms are slipping out from under him very fast in this day and time.

  5. I was surprised at the wealth of information this book contains, not only about different types of guns, but laws and other information.

  1. I read this amazing book, here in Brazil. This book is full of eternal advices for military and every person.Being writen more than 2,500 years ago, this amazing book is less outdated, than your today's newspaper. Why? Because human mind doesn't changes with the time.
Everyone looking for advices, about any war, must begin, with this amazing book. This short book isn't just about war, but also about life and politics.

  2. I bought this on a whim but quickly came to understand that if the President had read this text, we would not be involved in the type of war we are fighting.

  3. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RSFXZFBSJSJVM This is a magnificent book that tells as much about psychology as it does military strategy.

  4. Great book, I want to buy the full version. Has good principals to follow. I think our military should read it too. They might get something done.

    Overall 5 starts +++

  5. This is a book of strategy for psychological warfare--it helps you tackle the battles you face every day. One of the biggest themes is how to win a fight *before* it actually starts. If only our current government and military leaders had followed the wisdom of "The Art of War"...

5 comments about LabVIEW for Everyone: Graphical Programming Made Easy and Fun (3rd Edition) (National Instruments Virtual Instrumentation Series).
  1. If you are a beginner to intermediate with LabVIEW, then the 3rd Edition is the single best book on LabVIEW available to you as of summer of 2007. If your budget only allows for one or a few books, put this one at the top of you list. I have read this book cover to cover, twice, and some sections in further detail as well as worked through all of the example code in detail.

I won't repeat the fine comments of others in their reviews. I speak from the perspective of 15+ years of working with LabVIEW, as a beginner in the early 1990s, a Certified LabVIEW instructor in the mid 90s, a small control and test system business founder and owner since the late 90s and an enthusiastic member of the LabVIEW community all during that time. I have bought most of the LabVIEW books that have ever been published as well as the (late) LTR newsletter and this 3rd Edition is the best book I have come across. If I were hiring someone new to do LabVIEW work, I'd give them a copy of this book first. The investment is a no brainer.

  2. While there is a a lot of good information of the NI website, I thought buying a book would be helpful as I needed to learn LabView quickly. I thought this book was very helpful and would definately be a good book for someone new to LabView. My only wish is that it would have more converage on the DAQ part. To me this is not only the key part of LabView, it is the only part that got me confused (and still does) at some points. Some additional coverage would have helped.

  3. This book fills in the yawning gaps of LabVIEW 8.xx's documentation and ambiguous and dense "HELP" sections. For example, as a retread LabVIEW user from over a decade ago, I looked for a simple step-by-step procedure to turn on, write, a single digital line. Just to turn on and off a single LED. The LabVIEW HELP returned many dozens of topics and forced me to read many extraneous topics to come to the conclusion that I was not going to find any help. Then, I tried to use the "easy" virtual instruments already made for the occassion, but the only one found after navigating through a thicket of unrelated virtual instruments was one which wrote a digital port of eight channels and no explanation of how to set it up to write one digital line. LabVIEW for Everyone... solved my problem and a whole lot more. This book is needed by anyone who is not an experienced LabVIEW programmer and who does not have the time or resources to attend training classes and wants to get started as soon as possible. Travis and Kring have created a readable and effective reference source for LabVIEW programmers. It is possibly the only book which addresses recent LabVIEW 8.xx software and truly does make it easy and fun.

  4. This is an excellent textbook! I'm currently taking "Introduction to LabVIEW" at Tidewater Community College and this is the text that is being used. There 'are' some errors in the book, but the publisher has a list of them posted on their website that is updated reguarly. The text comes with a trial version of LabVIEW to use for the activities. If you want to spend a-bit more money; couple this text with the Student Edition of LabVIEW and the 6008/6009 USB DAQ from National Instruments and you have one of the best learning tools for LabVIEW that I've seen. The text also prepares you to take the National Instruments CLAD exam.

  5. I purchased this book after reading the LabView 8 Student Edition book. Although the "LabView For Everyone" book covers much of the same material, I found the later to have more details and better explanations than the student version. I believe the "LabView for Everyone" is an essential volume for anyone who wishes to learn and use LabView for instrument control and simulation purposes.

I was introduced to LabView back in 1994, and was not a particular fan of the language, but after familiarizing myself with LabView Version 8, I'm quite impressed with the capabilities. What really motivated me to learn the LabView "data flow paradigm" was the incorporation of MATLAB scripts into the "G" language. Being a MATLAB power user, the combination of virtual instrumentation, data flow, and MATLAB is the winning combination for simulation and productivity.

The reason why I only gave it 4 stars is that neither the student version or the "LabView for Everyone" text covers the "Event Structure" in significant detail; thus making the reader experiment with this structure to gain operational insight. The "Event Structure" is very important since it represents a programming paradigm used by programmers familiar with the languages of Microsoft's Visual Studio such as C#, C++, Visual Basic, etc. I sincerely hope both Robert Bishop (author of the Student Edition) and Jeffrey Travis and Jim Kring (authors of LabView for Everyone) take this advice and augment the explanation of the "Event Structure" in later editions with more examples and discussion.
