5 comments about Study Guide and Solutions Manual for Organic Chemistry.
- I feel that this book is fine for a reference to the text book problems. The only complaint is that going through nearly the first half of the book, I have found a few minor typos.
- I bought this book along with the Bruice text for the organic class I'm taking right now. A solutions manual is indispensable for checking the answers to the problems you do - so I was going to buy the book anyway. Problem is, it looks like this solutions manual is the solutions manual for the 5th editon, only with a new cover so it looks like it's for the 6th edition. This would be fine, except that the problems in the 5th edition are not the same problems used in the 6th edition. I'd say that 90% of the time, the solutions manual is right - but is 90% good enough for people who are trying to learn the subject, and just end up getting more confused by a solutions manual with solutions for the wrong problem?? I think the publisher should offer a correct copy free to anyone who shelled out $88 for this book.
- I benefited from this book immensely. If you are taking this class do yourself a big favor and buy it. If you are going to do something do it right and working the problems is the key. I got it for around 30$.
- The book arrived faster than the quoted time and it was in great condition. The inside had no markings and the cover was not damaged in any way. Would buy from this seller again.
- I received an A in this class, and it was a lot of hard work. It would've been impossible without this solutions manual! In addition to giving all the answers and a brief explanations for some of them, each chapter has a small quiz at the end which are great study tools. Also there is some vocab at the beginning of each chapter which always seemed to find its way into my exams! I have not given this manual five stars because there were some errors and inconsistencies between the questions in the textbook and the answers in the manual. And I'm not talking about different editions, but rather just plain old mistakes. Like another reviewer said, they need a better editor.

5 comments about Prentice Hall Molecular Model Set For Organic Chemistry.
- The set is extreamly useful. The only problem I have with it is the "bonds" fit a little too snuggly and are often difficult to pull out. Very good very well made model set with a useful instruction booklet to go along with it.
- This set is necessary for anyone tyring to learn chemistry from either the General Chem or Organic Chem course level. Modeling makes the molecules much easier to visualize when determining how to bond the molecules together, various ways of rotating the bonds and naming the molecules. This is a must have!!!
- This is a kind of awkward model set. It does what its supposed to but the length of the plastic bonds is hard to differentiate to tell between the different types of bonds. Also, I did not find it that helpful to studying like I thought it would be. I would say save your money and buy study guides with gobs and gobs of practice problems.
- This product was a good buy but it could have had a few extra pieces to make longer chains of molecules. It also had too few carbon molecules beads which is the back bone of many molecules.
- If you are having trouble mentally visualizing how organic molecules' mechanisms work, this will be a valuable tool to have. However, if you are doing fine just visualizing it in your head, then i suggest you just skip this kit.

5 comments about Organic Chemistry (5th Edition) (Ace Organic Series).
- that is a nice book. it was in the paper box shiped on time and quickly .
- Received book in 3 days but paid for 2 day service. However, item was exactly what was stated. The one day did not make that big a difference but was a little irritating. Book was great.
- The book arrived faster than the quoted time, and was in great condition. The inside had no markings and the cover was not damaged in any way. Would buy from this seller again.
- I just finished this class last semester. I found this book easy to follow, but I think it could have been arranged better. For instance, I would've started with SN 1/E 1 and SN 2/E 2 reactions first instead of jumping straight into the reactions of alkenes. I would've also appreciated if all of the nomenclature was in one concise chapter. I do appreciate the reaction summaries at the end of every chapter. That was quite useful. I really did not like the chapter on Mass spec, I felt it was lacking. The book also had some errors when it came to the practice problems and the answers in the back of the book. The chapter on stereochemistry was a headache. Do yourself a favor and attend the lecture and skip the chapter.
- Really really loved this book.
One of the best written college textbooks i have read in a long time
1). GOOD examples
2). REALLY thorough. It will cover nearly every topic in the entire ochem spectrum. When i was studying for the MCAT and couldnt find the answer to something all i had to do was pop open this book and find out about wolf-kirschner reductionr etc etc.
3). well written
4). easy to understand
Cons
1). really expensive, the solutions manual is really expensive too. Also the modeling kit is really expensive lol.
LOTS OF DOUGH, but if you can afford it its really a great book.

- Said it was new
Spine of book was was dented
all in all a good purchase
- I actually just took my final for this course 10 min ago. Took this course and used this book in my junior year of college. Book was good but extremely dry. It does explain the nuts and bolts of orgo in a precise and direct manner. Chapters are pretty long averaging about 40 pages each. Within chapters there are practice problems that are very helpful, I suggest buying this with the problem solving guide, because the book only gives answers to it's questions until a certain point beyond that they require you to purchase the problem solving guide. There are many pictures and figures to help you understand the material better.

5 comments about Organic Chemistry I as a Second Language: Translating the Basic Concepts.
- They are wrong, and this book proves it. I took o'chem 1 and 2, and the MCAT once and did pretty well. This book still cleared up things that i never really saw the first time around.
I could write a long description of the methods Klein uses to walk you through the steps to becoming competent in o'chem, but i'd rather just tell you that you can't spend a better $50 in college. Period.
Got it at Barnes and Nobles for 45 bucks i think.
- After reading the other positive reviews that almost make this book out to be a "holy grail" of the sorts, I assumed that this book would be of great help as an aid to my Organic Chemistry I textbook. However, as an aid, it really does a poor job of covering the information.
Klein spends ample amounts of time on Resonance, a concept which isn't too hard to grasp. Yes, it might be challenging for some, but when the course really gets tough (ie. Mechanisms), Klein tells you to "consult your textbook" and provides lots of white space in the book for you to copy down mechanisms and memorize them yourself.
It is this aspect of this "aid" which makes it so frustrating - Klein leaves you hanging in the most difficult part of Organic Chemistry. Quite frankly, I wouldn't waste my time with this book - if you really find yourself struggling with Resonance than you are going to have a lot more problems in organic chemistry than this book can solve.
Mechanisms are the hardest part of Orgo, and this book provides NO help for that besides white textboxes for you to copy them down from your textbook. Don't waste your time and money, if you want a supplement, get one that at least teaches you mechanisms.
I spent $40 for this book that is full of white textboxes for me to copy mechanisms down, I would hope that I can at least save some students from making the same mistake I did.
In all honesty, instead if buying this book, you are better off buying a few cases of beer - stress-busting is a good way to deal with organic chemistry!
- I'm one of the lucky few who are able to have Dr. Klein as a professor. He requires the OSL books in his course -- and for good reason; they are infinitely easier to understand than standard textbooks, give lots of practice problems, and really help you understand the material. Of course it helps that Dr. Klein teaches the class in the same way that he wrote the book, but I would recommend this to any Orgo student.
However, don't expect to sell this book to someone else -- it's really a workbook, and it's very helpful to be able to write in and do the exercises in the book.
- This guide is the best... it gets right to the point, my orgo class used solomons text and that book includes a lot of extra info that was unnecessary for the orgo class.
The only disappointment was the elimination rxns section... it kept advising to go back to text book to find the help that was needed for the elimination rxns... which defeats the whole purpose of the book... its suppose to be a secondary source of help, sometimes it could be used as primary if the text book is no help. but other wise it was great!
- This book is amazing because it is a textbook-workbook combo.
Most of the time in Orgo, homework is too difficult and tricky (that is, it is too far removed from the basic analysis techniques shown in the readings) to let the student learn while doing the homework.
However, this book is organized such that a workbook-like section follows every chapter- and plentiful problems (that are designed to reinforce technique application) of increasing difficulty in application follow each section...
but the best part about it- there's space in the book to write and draw!
and the paperback is so cheap it's very much worth it to just practice in the book and toss it away later.

- Very easy to understand when used in conjunction with the text. Good step by step explanations. Had taken general chemistry 8 years before i took organic and it was able to bring me up to speed!
- This is a very good solutions manual. It doesn't skip steps and is clear and covers EVERY problem. It is so useful that I wouldn't recommend using the textbook without having this b/c this solutions manual really helps you to understand the specific steps and mechanisms. Hey - I got an A in O-chem for two semesters and this book helped.

- Carbon is everywhere. While many people have gone through life without realizing this basic fact, this captivating new book shows us why it is time to reconsider this position. Roston opens the door to the world of carbon - an element that impacts everything from global warming to your new bike. A former Time magazine reporter, Roston writes in an engaging, clear and accessible style carrying us from the beginning of the universe to today's debates around carbon emissions. This is a must-read for anyone looking to learn more about the universe and where it is going. Carbon ... who knew!?!

5 comments about Organic Chemistry I For Dummies.
- Needing a supplement to my Organic Chemistry textbook I picked this up, which was more or less a waste. It simply doesn't provide enough to better understand college level Organic Chemistry, maybe High School. It read and felt like a dumbed down bad textbook, with bad attempts at humor thrown in; maybe to dull up the reading. Don't get me wrong there are helpful parts of the book... just few and far between. After my disappointment I picked up Organic Chemistry Demystified, a definite college/grad level supplement which was very good, and the quizzes helped immensly.
- Had been a while siince i took general chemistry and so found organic a little hard. My professor suggested buying this book it was the best $19.99 that i ever spent. Too bad there was no guide for Organic 2!
- This book really helped me understand the course by simplifying a lot of the topics.
- This book is great if you are a pre-professional health science major and need to learn the inner workings of Organic Chemistry. It gives you some insight before you take the class on how to succeed in studying in it, so you can make that "A" that your admissions board will be proud to see on your transcript. I highly recommend it.
- I bought this book thinking it might be helpful over the course of my Orgo I class, however, this book turned out to be way tooooo Basic to be of any help at all. I also thought that the order and ways which the reactions and concepts were not done well at all. Poor coverage of electrophilic addition.

5 comments about Examkrackers: 1001 Questions in MCAT, Organic Chemistry.
- This book is a hasty review of Orgo, but it covers most of the MCAT material in relatively small number of pages. Although some diagrams are not very helpful, it tells you most of what you need. It is basically a good book if you are a time-pressed pre-med trying to take the MCAT in 2 months. If you have more time, I recommend reading over your orgo textbook once more and doing problem sets in various other MCAT preparation materials (the ones with only MCAT style problems). Hope this helps.
- It does not deal sufficiently with reactions. The questions are too easy. I don't have a problem with the questions being in discrete forms since one needs solid understanding of the materials (through discrete questions) before being able to tackle passage based questions. But, after having gone through about 50% of the book so far, I don't feel like I've improved in my knowledge base in Ochem. If you need very very basic questions, this book is for you. I get the feeling this book was put together in a hasty manner with little thought invested in the quality of the questions. I would not recommend this book.
- The last comment from James Min is on the ball, however, although many of the questions ARE too easy..there are too easy for sum1 who has a solid foundation in OCHEM, like myself. However, with sum of teh questions that i got wrong, the explaniations were perfect in allowing me to understand and review sum of the things that I 4got. Example: What is the hydrogen defeciency of C1204h3Br1-
The formula for this problem is (2n+2) - x/2 where is the number of carbons and x is the number of hydrogen OR Halogen...My OCHEM prof never mentioned that we added the halogens to this equation! So overall I will give the book 4 stars
- The Exam Kracker series are great for testing your knowledge and reviewing for MCAT. I found these books to be indispensable. If you can not afford to buy it new, try craigslist to find a used copy. It will definitely improve your MCAT score.
- book is pretty helpful...the questions seem fairly easy, though. this is probably because my o-chem professors ROCK and my class has been quite rigorous...the mcat o-chem questions seem easy because I've had such a good o-chem education. the 1001 questions book is a decent review, though
