5 comments about Seeking Safety: A Treatment Manual for PTSD and Substance Abuse.
- Thank you for writing such a great book. I have suffered from addictions for years, tried many books and many methods. Working with a group or individual is one thing, but for me, nothing helps more than a book. It's on call twenty four hours a day and I can easily reference it. As far as books go...this one is by far the best. The most comprehensive and in-depth book I've read so far. It provided tremendous support and guidance on issues that often result in isolation. Most of all, it didn't talk down to me as a reader. That's something I don't need! Thank you for making this book available and writing it in such a helpful way.
- This book, intended for therapists, is a comprehensive, compassionate, and accessible guide to what Najavits establishes is the first crucial step for someone struggling with PTSD and substance abuse: learning to feel safe. It is also an excellent resource for patients who want to help themselves. What I like best is that the book is filled with checklists, stories, exercises, and quotations such that I can open to nearly any page and find ideas that are both practical and inspirational. In short, this is a great book.
- This manual clearly maps out a program for trauma victims struggling with Substance Abuse. Most programs are designed for one or the other. This manual clearly describes a program that integrates approaches to both issues. There is very little fluff (stories and experiences) with only important valuable information included. It is easy to read and not written as a term paper with lots of footnotes and references.
- This manual is in use and recommended for use by the VA's National Center for PTSD at Palo Alto California.
- I am finding this manual very useful in working with clients who suffer with PTSD and Substance Abuse. The handouts are helpful and appropriate, and my client's are responding positively to this treatment approach. The activities quickly help them recognize how the two disorders are inter-related and that they need to address both issues simultaneously in order to find their road to recovery.

5 comments about A Manual for Writers of Term Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (Chicago Guides to Writing, Editing, and Publishing).
- Very helpful, clear, concise, and easy to use.
- The book was recommended by a professor at my university. I found it to be a nice addition to my collection of background for doctoral style writing. It is in a nice format like an index or outline and easy to follow as a reference when writing.
- While excellent in its own right, the 15th Edition Chicago Manual contains all this work's information and then some. Indeed, the Chicago Manual is more extensive, detailed, and useful in general. Don't bother with this one if you have any heavy writing to do.
- You can set your own standard and demand respect when you follow this style of writing. It will make you shine at any university.
- Provided the tool I needed to use to write my paper and that was the purpose of the purchase.

5 comments about Essential Psychopharmacology: The Prescriber's Guide: Revised and Updated Edition (Essential Psychopharmacology Series).
- This is the most practical, well organized and visually well designed handbook of its type I've ever seen
- Great book! I went to a training by the author on polypharmacy in the treatment of individuals with mental illnesses. I then bought his general "Essential Psychopharmacology" book that was fairly complex, but the cartoons made the information fairly understandable for a non medical person like myself. The "Prescriber's Guide" is much more understandable and very useful in it's discussion of augmentation medications and ways to combat side-effects. It's presentations of how various medications work is very clear and gives one a good understanding about why one would use one medication verses another given how the illness presents in a person. If I were a general practitioner and certainly a psychiatrist, I would want to own this book.
- I feel that I have wasted my money on this book. The book contains only a minimal amount of info regarding psychtropic. In addition, I was looking for a more complete list that what ws provided in this book.
I have plans to resale this book back on amazaon
]Thanks
- I am new to long term care and had never before been responsible for managing residents with bipolar disease, major depression, mania, insomnia, dementia, epilepsy, etc. I found myself with patients heralding longstanding psychopharmacology use and I needed an easy-to-understand text to assist me in managing expectations, dosing, side effects and precautions...now! Stahl's guide went far beyond a standard nursing drug reference, including sections on "how to dose", "best augmenting combos for partial response or treatment resistance" and a section for considerations in special populations (renal impairment, geriatric, children, pregnancy). The format and layout is easy on the eye, and it doesn't read like a heavy pharmacology text. Of the hundreds of manuals I have on my shelf at home--this is the one I carry to work everyday. Great book!
- This is a must have text for any advanced practice nurse who prescribes medications for mentally ill clients. It is a must for any psychiatric nurse as well. Excellent book.

5 comments about The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide.
- This is a great book and perhaps the best one I have read for a newbie who wants to set up a marine aquarium
- i started a marine aquarium from scratch and with no knowledge. it was very confusing but without this book i don't know what i would have done. it covers all the basics, got me up and running and with no problems.
- If you've ever considered buying a saltwater fishtank - this is " THE BOOK " to read first. It covers all the basics you need for a Saltwater Fish tank with Live Rock and Fish.
This book gives a complete soup to nuts blueprint of the basics needed - equiptment needed - and even an option to get started on a smaller scale if need be - although the ideal minimum size would be a 40 gallon for Saltwater Tank - there is a blueprint for a 15 or 20 gallon tank - along with suggestions to get started on a restricted budget.
This book is a great reference book - but doesn't attempt to cover more advanced topics such as corals / refugium tanks ( I wish this would have been included ). I'd highly recommend this book as a first read compared to the other 4 books I've read. After reading this book - I'd suggest joining an online community like Reef Central or one of many other online saltwater forums. These sites can fill in the gaps for any questions taht may arise while getting started - or more advanced issues you may experience while upkeeping your tank.
- This book is so well written and includes everything you need to know in detail, yet remains a very pleasent and easy read. This book is great to both those new to salt water as well as those with exsiting tank,"
- It is a great book for beginners. It is not an in-depth information material but enough to give you fundamentals and get you started. It is also easy to read and well organized. The author has very solid credentials.

5 comments about Healing Psoriasis: The Natural Alternative.
- I am so grateful for this book. my road with "THE RASH", as I call it, began just 10 months ago. ten frustrating and frightening (just how much of my body is going to be covered with this disfiguring and insanely itchy RASH? forever?) my dermatologist was completely unhelpful and does not believe there is a connection between what one eats and their skin...hello?!? my doctor, who does understand the connection, could only advise stopping all dairy. I found reference to this book while reading in curezone.com and purchased it right away from amazon. I have followed almost all of the protocol - and it is extensive - and less than 3 weeks later I am 98% free from THE RASH. the program is for those who are willing to do everything it takes. there are no pharmaceutical magic-bullets. there are thoroughly explained and detailed instructions for following this health program. also good photographs of before and afters to generate enthusiasm to get yourself up for this. try not to be daunted, just start. as I said, I am grateful beyond words for john pagano.
- I've read this book twice. I followed it as close as I possibly could. I evidently wasn't totally committed because I went back to my old ways. I tried it again later. I did see much improvement in my skin & I lost 35 pounds also (a major plus). Then, on 3-17-08, I read Dr. Peter Gott's column. He always provides "natural" cures to problems. Try rubbing banana skins on your skin?? What? Yes, the inside of the banana skin! After two days (applying morning only), my skin is almost clear on my hands..a place that I couldn't cover up & I was always very embarrassed about. Sounds strange, I know. And I am almost in disbelief...something as common as bananas. I eat them every week..almost daily. I've just never rubbed them on my skin. It supposedly has something to do with the fatty acids in banana skins. Go figure! Here's the article from Dr. Gott's column dated 3-17-08: Question: I have used several of your home remedies with success. The "drunken raisin" for gout, the soap under the sheets for leg cramps, castor oil for arthritis and more. My husband thought I had finally "gone off the deep end" when I went after him with a handful of banana peels. We had been using a prescription medication on his psoriasis every day for more than two years. It has had very little effect. I rubbed the inside of the banana peels on the affected patches (his head, neck, face and back) once a day. After three days, the psoriasis had nearly cleared up (about 90 percent was gone). My husband now uses the peels once a week to keep his skin clear. Thank you, from both of us, for passing along all these helpful hints.
Answer: Other readers have had marvelous success treating their psoriasis with the banana-peel therapy. It is cheap, easy, safe and -- apparently --effective. For those unfamiliar with this therapy, all you do is rub the inside of the banana peel on the affected patches of skin once a day. Remember not to waste the banana. It is nutritious and delicious. End of column.
If you suffer from Psoriasis like I have, try rubbing the banana peel on your skin. What do you have to lose. Bananas are cheap & you were going to throw away the peeling anyway, right? I don't know longterm how this will work for me, only time will tell. In the meantime, I try to eat right and I've begun to exercise. It all plays a part in your overall health. Blessings to you all!
- FOR EVERYONE READING THE TESTIMONIALS, JOHN PAGANO'S METHODS
DO WORK, NATURAL HEALING IS NOT LIKE CONVENTIONAL DRUGS.. THEIR IS NO
MAGIC PILL THAT WILL HEAL PSORIASIS, ECZEMA, OR ANY OTHER CHRONIC SKIN DISEASE., THESE SKIN DISEASES BELIEVE IT OR NOT, ARE A RESULT OF TOXINS GETTING INTO THE BLOODSTREAM, AS PAGANO MENTIONS IN HIS BOOK LEAKY GUT SYNDROME, IS AT THE ROOT.. YOU CAN ALSO TRACE PAGANO'S WORK BACK TO EDGAR CAYCE.. EDGAR CAYCE IS A WORLD RENOWNED NATUROPATH WHO HAS HIS OWN LINE OF SKIN CARE PRODUCTS THRU [...] (PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT ATTEMPTING TO ADVERTISE THEM FOR ANY PROFIT) I AM NOT CONNECTED WITH THEM, I HAVE MERELY BEEN A USER OF THE PRODUCTS. GETTING BACK TO THE CORE MESSAGE.. DETOXIFYING YOUR SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY SOMEONE WITH A CHRONIC DISEASE..
TAKES TIME, AND YOUR SYMPTOMS DO ACTUALLY GET WORSE BEFORE THEY GET BETTER, THIS IS CALLED A "HEALING CRISIS" IN THE NATURAL WORLD, YOUR BODY HAS TO ELIMINATE THE TOXINS, BECAUSE YOUR LIVER, KIDNEY AND OTHER DIGESTIVE ORGANS ARE NOT DOING IT EFFECTIVELY BECAUSE THEIR OVERLOADED WITH TOXINS! IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO SOME SERIOUS RESEARCH ON CLEANSING YOUR DIGESTIVE TRACT.. THIS ONE THING ALONE IS LINKED WITH A MULTITUDE OF DISEASES. ONE OF THE INDIVIDUALS SAID THEY DID EVERYTHING BUT THE ENEMAS AND COLONICS, AND WANDERED WHY THEY DID NOT GET ANY RESULTS..
PEOPLE BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO DO WHILE ON PAGANO'S DIET OR ANYONE'S DIET IS COLONICS.. AND OR ENEMAS.. THIS IS WHAT WILL ELIMNATE THE MAJORITY OF TOXINS BUILT UP IN YOUR SYSTEM, UNTIL YOUR SKIN IS WELL ENOUGH TO DO IT.. (YES YOUR SKIN WHICH IS THE LARGEST ORGAN IN YOUR BODY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ELIMINATING TOXINS.
COLONICS, CAN PREVENT COLON CANCERS, PROSTATE CANCER, AND A HOST OF OTHER DIESEASES.. THE PROBLEM IS OUR SOCIETY IS EATING SO MANY PROCESSED FOODS, THAT ARE CAUSING ALLERGIES, AND DISRUPTING THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM..WE ARE NOT GETTING LIVE ENZYMES, DIGESTING CORRECTLY..
THE OTHER PART OF THE EQUATION IS YOUR DIET.. RED MEATS, HIGH FAT, FOODS
YOUR ASKING FOR IT!!
MY WIFE HAS HAD ECZEMA ALL HER LIFE AND IT RECENTLY, SHE HAD
OUR LAST CHILD IN 2005.. THE DOCTORS GAVE HER ALL TYPES OF PAIN MEDICATION
FOR A C-SECTION DELIVERY.. THE MEDICATIONS SOMEHOW INTERACTED WITH HER
SKIN(THEIR HIGHLY TOXIC) AND SHE FROM THAT POINT HAD PSORIASIS
WE TRIED EVERYTHING LIKE MOST OF YOU.. FROM THE STEROID CREAMS
TO THE SHOTS.. ALL THAT DID WAS HAMPER THE SYMPTOMS.. BUT THEY COME BACK MUCH STRONGER. MY WIFE STARTED GOING FOR THE COLONICS.. HER SKIN STARTED CLEARING INSIDE OF ABOUT 2 MONTHS OR SO.. WE ALSO DECIDED TO CUT OUT MEAT ALTOGETHER EVEN THOUGH PAGANO, DOES SUGGEST CERTAIN MEAT(NOT RED)
I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND, BENTONITE CLAY BATHS, OR AVEENO ECZEMA BATHS
I WOULD ALSO RECOMMEND BLOOD CLEANSING HERBS, LIKE RED CLOVER LEAF, AND BURDOCK ROOT..
PEOPLE THE DISEASE CAN BE BEAT.. BUT YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK
AND BE WILLING TO GO OUTSIDE OF THE BOX WITH CONVENTIONAL MEDS..(MEANING YOU NEED TO USE NATURAL HERBS, COLONICS AND EAT THE RIGHT FOODS.
NOBODY IS GOING TO TELL YOU THIS, BECAUSE OF THE U.S. MEDICAL MONOPOLY
HERE IN THE U.S.
- This diet got me on the road to healing, and gave me hope where the doctors gave me only despair and cream with a black cancer warning label.
I found, from a very smart guy named Randall over at alt.support.skin-diseases.psoriasis on the news groups, that I could "cheat" this diet almost completely except during an outbreak when going to far with alcohol, etc. The simple program I use is to take a table spoon of sweet whey (Bob's Red Mill sells it, it's VERY cheap). This feeds the "good" gut bacteria, which balance the immune system and line the gut.
But you may have to start with a probiotic powder mixed with oil, which keeps the stomach acid from killing the probiotic. Of else you could try Flora Smart probiotics (sold here), they seem to have a special liner that works. If you really want to go after it, try thewholewhey(DOT)com. The sell a probiotic implant system, but be ready for a little surprise how it works!
You can read all about this over at the news group I mentioned. Again, the book was great, but with the additional knowledge, I have been able to go back to a nearly normal diet for 2 years and keep the P totally clear, except for a few times when I drank a beer every day or two for a while.
Good Luck!
- Dr. Pagano has written a great account of the true cause of Psoriasis, a detailed a thorough plan of action for treatment, and a long-term view on the way to prevent recurrence. Though some supplements, such as herbal teas, are needed, these are not very expensive and can save you hundreds of dollars compared to pharmaceutical products and steroids.
Best of all, you will not have any side effects from following the regimen (other than going to the bathroom more often, which is actually a good thing). In general, you will feel better and gain confidence from knowing you are in control of your own skin.
Please do not go try harmful pharmaceuticals like Enbrel that kill your immune system and can cause death from a minor infection, at least give an alternative approach before having to shell over the big bucks (around $1,000 per month) for the killer drugs. With the alternative approach, once your body and immune system are in balance again, you will not have to continue to take a lot of supplements to keep your skin looking clear, rather than a temporary fix to suppress the systems while creating other, more severe issues.

5 comments about Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain: A Survival Manual (2nd Edition).
- I have learned so much about my conditions, trigger points and how to get good relief from pain. A must have for anyone suffering from fibromyalgia or pain from yet unknown causes. You might find out some startling things about youself and then be able to treat them or at least discuss with your doctor.
- The book is easy to read with wonderful sketches of the muscles.
A must book for the new Fibromyalgia sufferer!
- This is a well-written, comprehensive resource for anyone hungry for knowledge about this syndrome. I have the first edition as well, which is also awesome. The book has educated everyone from my dentist to my husband! Some of the Fibro symptoms are so unusual, that people start to think about your credibility after awhile. It is very frustrating! Many issues/symptoms have been explained or at least put to rest by looking them up in this book and feeling assured that I'm not crazy,(as many physicians still don't see this syndrome as having any medical foundation at all)! Thank you for writing and updating this book! It has saved several Dr. office calls and is a great source of information, support and relief for me.
- This is an EXCELLENT book about Fibromyalgia, I would highly recommend it to anyone who has fibro., or for a loved one of someone with Fibro.
- The information in this book is priceless to me. I have gone to many doctors to treat the myriad of symtoms that come with FMS, it has been extremely frustrating. Most physicians have the opinion that it is "just in your head", or even say they are "overwhelmed" with the list of issues. This book identifies and breaks down all of this information in an easy to follow format (alot of medical terminology, but read it thru a couple of times, you'll get it). I actually took it with me to see my doctor, with hi-lighted areas, to point out that what I'm going thru is an actual "condition". I'm still reading, and there are great tips on what to do and not do on dealing with this syndrome. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for the info on how to get back on track to living healthy!!

5 comments about The Thyroid Solution: A Revolutionary Mind-Body Program for Regaining Your Emotional and Physical Health.
- fast delivery. Book doesn't talk much about what i am particularly interested in but very informational about thyroid disorders. I recommend for guide.
- More than I could have imagined. A definite book for people with any kind of thyroid problem. Good for caregivers of those with thyroid problems.
- I think this book is great for those who truly have thyroid issues. For me, I'm just wondering if I do or not. Still have only read parts of the book but the information here appears sound.
-
I'm so impressed with the book, I'm in route to Texas in two weeks for an appointment with Dr.Arem.I'm looking forward to getting my life back after seven years of not finding answers.Thank-you for the book as I would still be searching!Blessings to you and yours!!!
- I was lucky to live in Houston when I found myself hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat. After testing I was found to have Graves disease. The first book I picked up on the subject was Dr. Arem's. Not only was it an excellent source of information, his office was just a couple miles from my home. This book explained a lot of what I had been through for many years, knowing that something was very wrong with my health, only to be told by every kind of doctor that I should see a shrink. And I'm a VERY happy person! I did have RAI treatment directed by Dr. Arem. He monitored me so closely that I didn't have wild swings in my levels post treatment. Five years later I'm doing very well. I really thank my lucky stars I finally fell into the right hands and his book put it all into perspective. I finally feel like I have a clear understanding of what was happening to me.

5 comments about Why Weight? A Guide to Ending Compulsive Eating.
- This book is not what I expected. It's more of a "workbook" instead of a book to read. I was thoroughly disappointed.
- I love this book. I'm actually still doing the exercises in the book. I believe there are almost 90 exercises. Geneen requires you dig deep. The first few days of doing the work, I was a mess. I have used food to not deal with my emotions for so many years, that it actually brought me back to my emotional self as a teenager. My first diet started when I was 15 at 102 pounds! I had went over that 100 pound mark then, started my first diet, and never dealt with my emotions after that unless it involved food. I'm almost 40 years old now and thought this vicious cycle would never end. The more I dieted and deprived myself, the more I weighed in the end.
My mom told me about Geneen Roth when I was in my early twenties and she stopped dieting then and never struggled with food since, but I couldn't give up that the next diet would be the miracle that I needed! I was at most lowest point recently and read another book of Geneen's 'When Food Is Love.' I was hooked! That book was a great read, but this allows you to do the work.
I've finally given up the word 'diet' in my vocabulary, in my life.
- I did not find this book to have any "solutions." It was simply the usual self-help book which never goes to the root of any problem.
- Geneen is just great. She gives advice from a been there and done that kinda girl friends way.
It is clear and helpful. this and her other books are highly recommended and she gives you a clear way to go, but you choose in the end. You are the boss.
- Excellent for those who want to work on their compulsive eating habit without the constant self-berating that usually goes along with that. She's a great writer and her approach is wonderful, full of gentle affirmation and positivity. She will help readers reverse the negative self-talk that makes this addiction so much more difficult.

5 comments about The Verbal Behavior Approach: How to Teach Children With Autism and Related Disorders.
- This book is easy and enjoyable to read. It explains, in simple terms, what VB is and gives you guidelines which are easy to follow. Useful for both parents and professionals.
- I am an ABA/VB professional as well as an author of a book on the topic of the Verbal Behavior Approach to ABA. I have met Mary only once but I have read her book and found it to be an excellent introduction to the science of behaviorism and particularly to the Verbal Behavior Approach to ABA. If you are currently trying to decide the best way to approach the education of the child with autism in your life or if you have already found the benefits of ABA and want to see the science of Behaviorism through the eyes of someone versed in Skinner's analysis of Verbal Behavior, this book is a great start. Once you have the basics down, you can continue your education of VB with "Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism" A Teaching Manual for the Verbal Beahvior Approach to ABA also available here on AmazonEducate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism.
- I don't exactly agree with this type of therapy, kind of brainwashing, some kids just need time to flourish on their own. Maybe good for some. Not very good for very sensitive children.
- This book is so informative that I wrote to the author to tell her what a great job she did - and what a service for the community. It's in easy language and VERY helpful to the professional, as well as the parent. I highly recommend it!
- The book is just what I need for my research in verbal behavior to put the intervention in laymans terms.
She is a wonderful author.
I got my book in adequate timing.
