5 comments about Heal Your Body A-Z: The Mental Causes for Physical Illness and the Way to Overcome Them.
- This is a cute, but silly little book and is not worth the paper it is printed on. It is very superficial, and way over-rated. It is fodder for wishful thinkers, and not seriously helpful.
- Some of the healing thoughts make sense ,some don't.If you have an illness and you are looking for positive ways of finding comforts for healing it can help a little bit.Cheaper than going to a therapist especially when you think of al the scheduling and driving and inusrance battles.
- I recently went through my old journals and found illnesses I had gone through at different times in my life. I read what was happening at those times in my life and found the emotional connections to be right on! It is weird, but true! It makes you think twice about how emotions effect health. I've also learned this with Emotional Freedom Technique. It really works to unload past emotions and free the body to be healthy and pain free.
- If I could give no stars, I would. I'm putting this review on each of Louise Hay's titles to warn people who fall into believing that this is a caring, compassionate person. I met her recently at an event and was about to compliment her on one of the books her company publishes that Dr. Dyer wrote for children. Louise Hay was so incredibly rude to me before I even got to open my mouth that I was shocked. The woman seemed to be only about capitalism, power and ego and, though I had been a previous customer of her publishing company, I will NEVER purchase anything by them again nor will I recommend them. I will not give money to someone so ill-behaved, let alone someone who's telling others to be nice when they haven't learned that lesson themselves. Louise Hay, I hope someone on your team shares this with you. You should be ashamed of yourself for being so nasty!
By contrast, I have dealt with the people at Sound's True a zillion times and all of them are as nice as can be and behave in accordance with their products. I spoke with their people at the same event (and others before it) and they were all lovely.
And, no, I do not work for or am in any way compensated by Sound's True. I simply people should know the truth about who practices what they preach and who doesn't. In my opinion, Hay's behavior was one step down from Cruella De Ville. If you're shocked reading that, imagine how shocked I was experiencing it from her.
- Louise Hay lives up to her reputation again with this book that identifies potential emotional / metaphysical links to physical problems. Just that alone is important and useful information. The affirmations may be too simplistic or off the mark for some people, but they do provide a good starting point for examining your attitudes and beliefs, and bringing to consciousness any hidden assumptions that are contributing to illness.

5 comments about Boards and Wards: A Review for USMLE Steps 2&3: A Practical Guide (Boards and Wards Series).
- Excellent resource for step 2 ck. Covers high yield topics in a simple and well structured way. A must have for your step 2ck
- this book is very useful for med school clinical years. provides a great overview that is brief and very useful on the wards. highly recommended.
- This book is a good book to have in your collection of medical references. It is concise and bulleted with pertinent information for wards, as the name suggests, as well as studying for the USMLE. It is easy to understand and easy to navigate when searching for something very specific. It is a small book but not small enough to carry in your white coat during rounds unless you have big pockets or if your pockets are empty, (most medical professionals I know don't have their pockets empty due to all the crap we have to carry), you might be able to fit it in there snuggly. All in all its a good book to have as a refresher or reference but i don't find it's good enough to use as the only resource when studying for USMLE.
- Buy it, take it to your local office supply store, get it wire bound with plastic covers for about $3-$4 and it'll last through your clinical years and internship. The only review book that can actually be carried in your white coat making it TRULY USEFUL on rotations. In fact, it's PERFECT for rotations as you can STUDY on the go whenever you have a few minutes PLUS it helps you with pimp questions and patient management. Psych, Derm, EKG, neuro, outpatient, IM, surgery and more.
- My vpurchase came in the time specified and in the condition that was stated also. I will definately make future purchases from this seller

5 comments about The Hot Zone: A Terrifying True Story.
- I read this book in two days. The first few chapters keep you reading with mixed fascination and terror as you try to picture a human being melting from the inside out. Great writing. The book slows in the last half and gets a little more technical, but non-fiction does that because all life is not lived like a novel. I think the author does his best to satisfy (not offend) animal rights people. Overall, the book is an intense look at some scary life forms that will sure keep me from poking around in strange caves.
- I've had this book on my shelf for at least the past 10 or so years and decided to pick it up. I thought the topic was pretty interesting and I liked the back history of Ebola and it's initial outbreaks but when it got to the story of how Ebola got to the U.S. it just got a little dull. Once the story focuses on the Ebola outbreak in Reston nothing really happens. They don't really solve or find anything and it's just really a description of how they cleansed the building. There are some interesting things that occur that when you read it you just think there is no way that that is how the military or government would handle that situation in this day in age. Hey there's Ebola in that building but lets not tell the daycare place across the street. Now the area would be clear for miles and anyone that was in contact would be locked up in isolation. But hey what can they say it was the 80s. It was an interesting book but just didn't really have enough going for me to keep me interested for extended periods of time and sometimes felt like I was reading the same thing over and over.
- The Hot Zone explains the Ebola Virus, it's history and the effects of the virus on the human and Simian body. It tells the story of a near outbreak in the U.S.
This was a quick read for me over the summer and gave me a fairly decent education regarding this deadly, and scary virus and how it likely jumped species from monkey to human by (spoiler) monkey markets and the greedy mishandling of the animals in the research market. There have been areas in Africa where villages have been devastated by Ebola and it's three different strains.
This book is creepy as it explains how the military handles the research of such virus's in it's Level Four research labs, where the handlers need no vaccinations when studying, because there are no vaccines. The researchers wear spacesuits and go through different levels before they can enter the area for researching such viruses as Ebola-a hole in your glove could mean certain death; you'd also be sent to a hospital where you'd have no chance to infect others - you'd die alone, a most grisly death too, as you'll read in the descriptions of people who died of Ebola.
Of special interest is the story of the spread of Ebola in Africa before it became a known virus.
Scary Non-fiction told in the author's usual riveting style.
- This book is excellent, on my top 10 list for sure, but it is an unflinching look at subject matter which is far past revolting.
Something tells me filoviruses aren't quite finished with the human species.
- Hot Zone is one of my most favorite books ever. I read this a few years ago, and made my husband read it only recently. He loved it as much as I did. It's such a compelling read and I was fascinated from the first to the last page. You won't regret picking up this book.

5 comments about The Developing Mind: How Relationships and the Brain Interact to Shape Who We Are.
- The author uses a hundred words when he could have gotten the message across with ten. There are better books out there on the topic.
- I was pleased to read this book by Daniel Siegel. It is an easy read about a complicated but fascinating subject! Thank you
- I'm not brilliant, nor am I stupid. I am a doctoral level psychologist who has read many books on neurophysiology, memory, cognition, attachment, etc. I regret having bought and read this book. It is repetitive, repetitive, repetitive. If you take out the repetition, it doesn't say much that is new. Largely, we don't know, we can hypothesize, we need more research.
- Dr Siegel has mastered the art of weaving the story of how experience wires brain tissue. Your character is the result of interactions with people and experiences that shaped your brain. Your unique experiences help shape your eating-brain: determining the desire for comfort foods, cravings and how often you feel the urge to eat. "Retrain your Brain Reshape your Body" provides specific brain-based tools made up of pleasant experiences that help rewire the adult eating-brain in reverse: away from old patterns of cravings and compulsive overeating, allowing you to stick to your weight loss program and achieve a healthy weight.
- This book is a great summary on the current understanding of the brain and the nervous system, and how it can only be looked at as a whole, anything else will only limit the understanding to temporary symptoms. For a non-brain expert, this book is definitely not an easy read, I would read 2-4 pages at once and then take a few days to digest it. I know I will re-read it again, there is so much material in there.
This book opened the door to finally having an idea of what it was that has been going on in my mind since childhood, unlocked the integration of my experiences, to heal and become my true self.

5 comments about Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic.
- This book is excellent if you want to understand your condition although I would prefer if it went into some more detail... it generallly touches upon all the key subjects a coeliac might want to address but again you might end up wanting to hear more.
I have tremendous respect for Peter Green, perhaps one day we could see an expanded version of this book.
- This book contains all you need to know about celiac disease. Dr. Peter Green's book is a great resource for those who want to learn more about the disease's symptoms, testing, diagnosis, and disease management. It also describes other diseases associated with CD. Although written by a doctor, the book is written in layman's terms. If you suspect you have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant, this is a valuable read.
- This is the third celiac book I have read since diagnosis and the best one so far. The authors do an excellent job of explaining what celiac is who gets it, and why it is difficult to get diagnosed. The information is presented clearly, in well-defined categories, and without resorting to jargon.
Symptoms are described in great detail, with other possible diagnoses given for each. Unlike other books which essentially tried to pin every symptom known to man to gluten, this book offers much more balanced information.
for those already diagnosed, there is much helpful information, including not only foods to avoid but much dispelling of myth about foods which are safe to eat despite common assumptions. The authors also discuss 'survival' strategies for coping with dietary limitations, what to do with celiac children, even the current state of celiac research.
This book is an excellent resource and I ezxpect I will return to it many times.
- Informative text on Celiac Disease. Gives the whole scoop plus help in deciding what you can and cannot eat. Guides you thru what you can eat as well as where to get the products. Lots of references given. Medical contact references to get you started.
- I was diagnosed with celiac disease in the fall of 2007, and I immediately went to the library to check out the most recent book on celiac disease. This was it, and it was so excellent I decided to buy a copy to have as a constant reference. This book has the latest information on celiac disease. Dr. Peter Green is the head of the celiac disease center at Columbia University; therefore, he is an authority on the subject. The co-author, Rory Jones, has celiac disease herself. The book was written with understanding and compassion, and the disease and potential complications are explained in a clear, easy to understand manner. If you have struggled with gastro-intestinal problems for years, and the doctors can't figure out what's wrong with you, you should read this book.

5 comments about Smart Moves: Why Learning Is Not All in Your Head.
- This book is easy to follow and is a great resource for those interested in improving functioning, particularly in children. The brain research included in the book is outstanding, maybe a little overwhelming for a lay person not used to reading this type of information, but made to be as user friendly as possible. One school I'm in has used some of the basic principles presented in the book with noticeable positive results in a very short time. This book is worth the money and time spent reading.
- I'm a former teacher, current family lawyer, mother of a nine year old, and homeschooled last year. My daughter's current tutor recommended this book, and a lot of pieces are beginning to fall into place. Coordination, reluctance to ride a bike. I wish I'd had this book 10 years ago.
- Hannaford is the wise teacher who shows how the body and mind are connected and how certain moves and exercises can improve school performance and even attitude. This is an extremely valuable book for anybody who works with kids, and will open your eyes to the whole child, not just the child-as-student. VERY highly recommended. Should be required in every teacher preparation program in the country!
- As many of the other reviews suggest, this book should be required reading for parents and educators. First of all, the explanations of the mechanics of the brain are very well presented for a lay audience--very easy to understand. The neuroscientific explanation then lays the groundwork for the thesis that Hannaford presents--that we need to consider the impact of the body and movement on the development of the brain. This book is a great step forward for holistic modes of education. Power Brain Kids
- ...the "thinking cap" exercise is my favorite -- there's a photo showing some young girl pulling her ear lobes down almost to her collar bone!...the accompanying text claims that such yanking on the ear lobes stimulates "energy sites" in a manner analogous to acupuncture and facilitates thinking...ouch!...I think I'll pass on that one!...and the "energy yawn"??...or the "calf pump"??...no doubt there are reams of scientific research supporting such "techniques" for stimulating thought -- they're just not on this planet...personally, I think you should save your money and attend some of Ms. Hannaford's presentations at the "New Thought Center of Hawaii" where, over the years, she has presented such enlightening seminars as "The Cosmic Order of Sound" and "The Heartful Experience Sufi Dancing at night"...or maybe go out and buy some nice crystals and incense...but whatever you chose, don't waste money on this book.

5 comments about Becoming a Professional Life Coach: Lessons from the Institute for Life Coach Training.
- This book really lays a good foundation for developing different streams in your life-coaching practice. I was really seeking a book to help round out some of the areas I was weak in and this book did not disappoint. Highly suggested reading for anyone seeking to build a flourishing business in life-coaching!
- Patrick Williams and Diane Menendez have offered the entire field of coaching a wonderful gift through their contribution to coaching in Becoming a Professional Life Coach: Lessons from the Institute of Life Coach Training. The material contained in this text offers a spectacular array of many of the coaching thought leaders and luminaries in the field, from Frederic Hudson, Ken Wilber, Milton Erickson, Daniel Goleman, Abraham Maslow and many others. One of the key benefits of this book is having these resources compiled in one place with an extensive bibliography pointing the reader to the source material to pursue inquiries in more detail.
A risk of compilations can sometimes be that they are fragmented and oversimplified, but this book avoids those perils by being coherent and well organized, flowing in a logical and useful manner from beginning to end.
A useful and compelling addition to any coach's library to keep readily available.

- I found this book deeply satisfying as a way to deepen my coaching skills. It's about the philosophy behind coaching, and has great dialogues with clients, from which I learned a lot. Warm, engaging, and based in the literature, this book is sensitive to what coaches can do to really benefit their clients.
- As a certified life coach, I love this book. It is a must for any experienced or new coach. In addition, this book can help anyone that wants to enhance their personal growth and improve their relationships. It truly is a book for anyone and everyone! It teaches you skills that will improve your personal life, at work, as a parent, and a friend. I have an extensive library of coaching books and this is my favorite by far.
I am also using it as a foundation for a professional workshop that I am writing and teaching.
I highly recommend this book for anyone.
- This book was a welcome to my collection on mentoring and coaching. Its a great book if you are want to get invovled in professional coaching and need examples of whats involved from you as a person. In short, this book is informative and educational.

5 comments about Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder.
- As a relatively new therapist in a community mental health setting I noticed I kept getting clients that were diagnosed with BPD. No one else seemed to want them and as the new therapist I got "stuck" with them. After many months of frustration and questioning whether or not I made the right career choice, I stumbled across DBT.
My clients are doing much better and I feel much better after reading Linehan's works and attending behavioraltech.com's conferences for training. Case Managers, Psychiatrists, and Therapists are now working together as a team and splitting is not much of an issue anymore.
The techniques are wonderful and I feel so inspired; however, the text is a little dry and I had to give myself little rewards after each chapter to get through this book.
- I've just started reading the book and have skimmed the workbook. She is, as one reviewer stated, very compassionate. I myself am a borderline individual, recently discovering it as of last week from a caring boyfriend. I went to the library and checked this book out. Never have I been blown away by how this book describes my feelings and pains so accurately. I never, for all these years, understood what was wrong with me, assuming it was everyone else. Ms. Linehan has definately helped my outlook on life. I'm very grateful for this book.
- As a Borderline reading a book written for the clinician, it opened my eyes as to how others see me. It has helped me to see the areas in my mind that CAN be changed and has helped me to begin making those changes.
It is written by a 'non-writer' and is very difficult to read at times without a psych. manual ;)!! lots of $1000.00 words that are not for the layman, but if you want to know more about 'The Borderline', it will help you to learn who and what they are, and how and why they they think the way they do. For those angels among us,it teaches the greatest program on how to help us to change.
- Linehan has written an easy-to-read, well organized book on working with BPD; her methods are empirically based. In one review a criticism was expressed re: her use of the female pronoun throughout the book. This didn't distract me from reading and learning; it seemed a commonsense choice on Linehan's part because, as she points out, the majority of individuals with BPD are women. The accompanying workbook is worth purchasing, also.
- This book by Marsha Linehan about the application of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is the most important book I have ever read, since I work in the Borderline Personality Disorders Clinic at the Centre For Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto. I am currently reading it over a second time. Dr. Linehan's methods (i.e. Validation, the balance between acceptance and change, and the challenging of thoughts but not emotions) and her emphasis on the therapist's need for humility in dealing with clients who have Borderline Personality Disorder makes this the Bible for treating this difficult personality disorder that is usually resistant to treatment. A must read, not only for psychologists but counsellors and front-line DBT treatment staff as well.

5 comments about Physical Examination of the Spine and Extremities.
- There is only one Hoppenfeld. For what it is, it's the best. It's all diagnosis. Not a word on treatment. But it gives a good review of not just the physical exam but also the underlying anatomy and biomechanics. Two other books are worth getting. Magee's Orthopedic Physical Assessment is a good background book to have on your shelf. It's written by a physical therapist, so the perspective is a little different if you're an MD or DO, but it's still useful. Lots of physical exam maneuvers. Cooper's Pocket Guide to Musculoskeletal Diagnosis is short and sweet and gives diagnostic work up as well as treatment insights.
- This book is so helpful. It turned my practical test scores around 100%. It is great for the visual learner!
- If you are a medical layperson, you can use this book in a "self-diagnosis" mode, with very little risk. Several of the tests can be done by yourself. You have to understand enough of the medical jargon, which is mostly about anatomy. Straightforward. Keep in mind the title, "physical examination". The tests are all meant to be done by a doctor or nurse with mostly manual steps. No medical instruments.
Some tests really do involve 2 people. You and the examiner. In this case, you can recruit a non-medical friend.
By and large, all this should be safe. There's no surgery involved. Just remember that you should not perform some steps beyond or even close to a pain limit. If you are doing tests, it may be because you have some physical problem. Watch that pain threshold.
- The best prices are on Amazon- and I always get what I'm expecting, usually the quailty of the books exceeds my expectations!
- This book is great for just about every other issue under the sun. Knees, shoulders, and backs...NO PROBLEM!
