5 comments about Machinery's Handbook, 27th Edition (Toolbox Edition).
  1. I got the handbook because it was required for one of my classes, and I am glad i got it because we can use it on tests and and while we are doing assignments.

  2. I AM A DESIGNER/ DRAFTER AND I HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS BOOK HAS ADVANCED MY KNOWLEDGE GREATLY IN MECHANICAL DESIGN.

  3. The product was delivered as promised in new/as new condition. The book is very informational for machinists and engineers alike.

  4. I have always needed one of these now I have one. I am so glad I really needed it.

  5. It is hard to describe how indispensable this book becomes once you own it. Extremely rich reference for all things mechanical. Not only tables, very interesting reading material too.
I've been reading it as a bedside book for a month, and the knowledge within seems endless.
I got the small print version, no complaints about that. Maybe in 20 years it will make a difference, though.
The only issue are units: some info in metric system, other imperial. But A++ still.

4 comments about Dynamics of Fluids in Porous Media (Dover Books on Physics and Chemistry).
  1. The definitive, classic text on the subject

  2. You may never need any other text other than this one. This is a comprehensive text covering everything from defining and classifying aquifers to fluid transport, continuity and conservation, boundary-value problems, flow of immiscible fluids and heat and mass transport. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to know the basics and beyond.

  3. This book was not easy to read for me. Takes too many words and formulas to explain simple concepts. But I'm not an engineer, maybe engineers will find it delightful.

  4. An exceptional resource. Well written and thorough. Even includes mathematical techniques for solving classes of PDEs relating to porous flow.

4 comments about Wind Energy Handbook.
  1. This book was written by people who spent their lives for something they loved. Their passion is evident from the in depth analysis and their personal contribution to many aspects of the presented theory.
This book is highly recommended to engineers and students, however it might not be very useful to people with limited engineering knowledge.
And a personal comment: If you are a Mechanical, of Aeronautical engineer fascinated by aerodynamics, David Sharp's section will surly challenge and intrigue you...

  2. For anyone interested in wind energy this book is a must. When first take a look at the book you get pretty scared but just let time go by while you get acquainted with more topics dealing with wind energy and you'll love it. The only thing left to say is thanks to the authors. the more you think you know about something the more you realise that you're not even half way there....

  3. I have read many similar books, I have also read much of the latest literature on wind turbine aerodynamics. Thus, I can say that of all the books written on wind turbines this book is written at the highest level. Much of the content within this book reflects what is best theory for practicle wind turbine engineering. Very indepth analysis of the aerodynamics and explains a lot of the concepts in great detail, where other books will gloss over. There are some things that readers should be aware of, first this book is only for people serious about wind turbine engineering. It is written at a level where some engineering knowledge is needed. I would recomend it for graduate students and proffesionals, but not for part time enthusiasts and hobyists.

  4. A deep look into the wind energy and wind conversion. Very extensive and deep into details considering the wind power technical aspects. I strongly advise for those in the technical wind energy area dealing with it.

5 comments about Industrial Machinery Repair: Best Maintenance Practices Pocket Guide (PLANT ENGINEERING SERIES).
  1. I keep pouring over my new copy of Industrial Machinery Repair - Best Maintenance Practices Pocket Guide as each chapter is better than the last. This handbook is a must have for anyone involved in industrial maintenance and machinery repair. Ricky Smith and Keith Mobley speak in human voices that we can all understand and they offer information that can be put to immediate use. In addition, the handbook includes a very comprehensive maintenance skills assessment that is worth the the entire price. Buy a copy for every maintenance person at your plant. Terrence O'Hanlon, Reliabilityweb.com

  2. We have recommended this book to all our maintenance personnel in the US and Europe as a "must have" in their locker.

  3. "Industrial Machinery Repair is a must reading for all maintenance personnel and management. It clearly shows how to improve equipment reliability and performance. Ricky Smith does a wonderful job at making the complicated day-to-day maintenance issues very plain and simple. If you are serious about maintenance in your organization, then you must read Industrial Machinery Repair."

  4. This is an excellent well organized resource for those in the manufacturing business. Everyone liked it so much we bought three more at work!!

  5. For a paperback, this is top quality information, for plant operators. However, this book may be too basic for some plant engineers.I think many shop operators will find this book ,an excellent resourse guide for machine repair. It helped me understand reduction of machine fatigue and obtaining peak reliabilty. The proper maintenance of machines, eliminates unnessary repair tasks and unwanted expenses on the balance sheet. Each chapter has a test and an answer key at the end of the book. The book helped me visualize procedures. Answered many questions about reading concise data for avoiding adverse conditions, spotting defects and reducing machine downtime. It's one of the best user-friendly guides for industrial machine repair.

4 comments about The Compact Tractor Bible (Country Workshop).
  1. The small tractor is here defined as under 75 horsepower and there are nearly a hundred brands of compacts offered in North America - with accompanying variations in style and presentation. Any who would use a small tractor will appreciate the clear insights of The Compact Tractor Bible: it surveys power, design, price, and performance levels and offers up everything from safety assessments to operating costs. Color photos and diagrams also cover mowing specifics and operations and use, giving the would-be owner specifics key to understanding the pros and cons of each.

  2. Power, price, performance, and design of various small tractors are discussed and compared. Informative photos explain each model's pros and cons.

  3. I was mislead by the title and believe that this book should more accurately be called the Compact Tractor Primer instead of "Bible". The scope of info is large but the depth is shallow. The writing is excellent and the material is presented in a very readable manner, but being new to owning a tractor I was looking for an in depth reference that went well beyond my owners manual. I was disappointed that this book spent most of it's pages exploring an extremely wide variety of small farm, landscaping and construction machinery and less time examining the maintenance and use of what most people consider a "compact tractor", i.e.: a mini tractor with a PTO and 3 point hitch. If you don't know what's available or exactly what you need for your small scale task you may find this book helpful. This thin book took me an evening to skim the relevant paragraphs and will end up at the local book store for sale.

  4. Superificial coverage of a number of subjects. No reviews, opinions, or specs of individual models or product lines. Seems to have a somewhat UK slant, with some tractors and similar vehicles mentioned or pictured that I'd guess never reach the US. Somewhat useful for beginners, and it's interesting to see some pictures of some of those exotic machines(a Ferrari tractor!?). Covers not just tractors, but skid loaders, mini-excavators and so on. Interesting, but not what I'd expected.

5 comments about The Professional Practice of Architectural Working Drawings.
  1. I bought this book when my younger brother started taking CAD classes to come work with me. I have found it to be an excellent resource, for the beginning draftsman, for putting together a set of plans. For the intermediate and advanced draftsman it is a valuable "checklist" book. The book only has one small section on CAD, but that is not the idea of the book.

This book will show you what is needed to be in a good set of plans. It has many examples of drawings and details and with good explanations for them. The explanations given also help you to understand what is being shown, but also why it is being shown. Having been in construction for over 20 years before I started drafting, I can say that the examples given are the types of drawings I wish came out to my jobs. You will be able to understand what information needs to be in your drawings, how to graphically show it. You will also be able to move around in the book and go to examples for whichever phase you are working on in your drawings and compare what you have done with what is given in the book.

No matter what level of draftsman you are, I would recommend this book. It will be an invaluable resource for you for years to come.

  2. This guide is based on a few specific projects which have little relevance to today's market. No outlines, guidelines, or checklists were available to help with the process of putting together a complete set of working drawings. If you are already in the field of architecture, this book is too basic and not applicable to more modern projects.

  3. I'm very surprised at the two star review below. This book is one of the most comprehensive and updated books on the topic of architectural working drawings to date. Each chapter is a literal list of things to do and strategies for preparing a full set of construction documents. There is even a CAD chapter and nearly 500 new CAD illustrations. Also, an appendix is available on the publishers website that has a comprehensive amount of CAD information. If you want more CAD information, google search "National CAD Standard". You're money is well spent on this book; look at the number of people who purchase it above 50%+ of the people who looked at this book and all others on the topic. Don't hesitate to buy it now :)

Last thing, Dr. Wakita's other books are just as informative. Check out "The Professional Practice of Architectural Detailing" for a well packed book of drawings and strategies.

  4. To chime in with the other reviewers, I am not exactly sure what is up with the one bad review, this book is excellent. I have read this book in its entirety and found that is very rich in content. The first section of the book covers various cad standards and conventions, however it is the latter part of the book that is pure gold. The book lays out the entire process of creating (as the name implies) architectural working drawings, and even gives examples of the development of the working drawings for various buildings of different constructions. It is in no way "out dated", some of the references to certain software and drafting technologies may be a bit stale, but the information contained in the book is timeless and applicable to both manual drafting, and CAD. In addition to this book I would also recommend the book on architectural detailing by the same author, as the two books make a good team.

  5. I bought this book for electrical and drainage working drawings but unfortunatly, the book does not include any of that (very little info). Also, the drawings dimensions are all not metric and all on US and Canadian standards. I'm really displeased about these important issues and I think Amazon must add these details for other countries standards.
