  1. Excellent textbook. This book has great illustrations and detailed instructions on how to do many of the setups for basic machining. Also, each section has the particular safety issues highlighted in red. Several references regarding cutting feeds and speeds to hardness conversions are found in the back. The workbook is also great for reinforcing the topics. So far the best text I have used.

  2. This is book contains basic general knowledge as to what tools might be in a shop, and what it might be used for. It has very little/or no machining training/procedures. If you are looking for procedures/tasks, this isnt the book to get.

5 comments about Six Sigma Statistics with EXCEL and MINITAB.
  1. Masterful!!!!

Teaching is a gift that not any scientist has. I can safely say that I have bought and studied 37 Amazon bestseller statistics books. Not a single one of them comes anywhere close to Issa Bass' "Six Sigma statistics with Minitab and Excel".
This book goes from the most basic and elementary descriptive statistics such how to determine the mean and median of a distribution to the most complex experimental design including Taguchi's method.
It does it in a very comprehensive method combining a step-by-step mathematical approach with Microsoft Excel and Minitab.
The introduction clearly defines what Six Sigma is and statistically defines Six Sigma and explains why the methodology is called 6 and sigma. It explains the methodology and shows how to use statistics to create balanced scorecards and how the six sigma project selection is conducted.
The rest of the book is essentially statistical. Chapter 2 introduces you to how to start Minitab and its functionalities and Excel's statistics add-ins.

Each chapter is filled with examples with more than 200 graphics applicable in real six sigma projects and each one of them walks you step by step on how to use mathematical formula to solve before using Excel and Minitab to come to the same conclusions obtained from the mathematical demonstration. All the examples on the CD are explained in plain English. Even if you have never done statistics in your life, you should understand all the examples.

The chapters on Regression Analysis, Process Capability Analysis, Measurement System Analysis and Taguchi Method are the most complete I have ever come across.
They are filled with examples that make the complex look easy.
Mr. Bass knows how to remove complexity from a complex science.
I give him a five stars.

  2. Quickly had a look at this book, to my thinking, it is good for junior level six sigma reader.

  3. Excellent book on using Minitab and Excel to assist in Six Sigma analysis with supporting statistical methods

  4. As a BB I find this book really useful. Each chapter has a clear structure, that helps the reader to fully understand the topics.
Lot of examples and exercises make the reader capable to fully understand the theory and to apply it to real problems.
I suggest all the BBs to have this book.

  5. Very good deployment of topics. To expand those topics more in deep (e.g.: Taguchi) could be even better. Excel & Minitab examples very useful but not developed within same Excel (or Minitab) solution spreadsheets.

5 comments about MicroC OS II: The Real Time Kernel (With CD-ROM).
  1. A good book for who wanna learn about Real Time Operative Systems. Easy to read and full of interesting information

  2. The book has brand new look and feel. Its very well maintained and delivered on time. Extremely pleased with the service.

  3. This book is not only the documentation of the uC/OS-II RTOS. It also presents many of the general real-time programming concepts in a very pedagogical manner.
I found the book very helpful.

  4. I've learn more about embedded operating systems and kernels from this book and playing with MicroC/OS II than I ever had by working with uCos, vxworks, embedded Linux, and BSD.

  5. I read this book after I have tested TOPPERS/ssp(smallest set profile), which is ITRON smallest set profile, first implementation.
These are simillar concept "micro" or "smallest".
"MicroC OS was certified in an avionics product by the Federal Avion Adinistration(FAA) for use in commercial aircraft by meeting the demanding requirements of the RTCA DO-178B standard"
    It is significant different.
But I do not know what procedure is needed in certification.
The book is not tell any more.
But this source code is good understanding what operating system should be.
BTW, I do not know microC/OS II is capable ISO osek OS.
I want to know how to harmonize microC/OS II and ISO osek OS.

5 comments about Advanced Mechanics of Materials.
  1. I don't subscribe to the point of view of those people who don't like this book. The book is clear, coincise, well written. I used in one of my Master's classes, and I loved it. It covers: stress theory, elasticity, fatigue analysis, basics of FE method, basic crack theory. Again, as I use to write in all my reviews: for each one of the chapters, one may find dozens of books. For the beginner and the practicioner this book is OK.

It has been say: "Computers make a good engineer a better one, a bad engineer a dangerous man". IF you don't know the THEORY, you will FAIL in the practice.

Do you really think one needs to perform a FEM analysis in order to know that as the radius of a round approaches zero, the stress at a point reaches the infinity?!?

Here you will find the theory needed to SAFELY perform structural analysis (with or without computers).

I think this book is a good one, and should stand in every engineer's bookshelf

  2. This is quite possibly the worst textbook ever, along with Vibrations by Balachandran. It seems these people never heard about finite element analysis. The examples are confusing and the treatment of the different subjects is usually quite poor.

  3. I've used this book both as a graduate student and a professor in civil/mechanical engineering. This book fills an important gap in advanced mechanics of materials/applied elasticity books (e.g. Ugural & Fenster, Cook & Young, Barber). Why? It contains a complete chapter on static failure theories including both pressure-independent (von Mises, Tresca) and pressure-dependent (Coulomb and Drucker-Prager) approaches. It also includes a full chapter on fracture mechanics, traditional fatigue, stress concentration factors, and creep. This book is a great launching point for courses involving plates & shells, elastic stability, and plasticity. However, this is not an elasticity text. Neither is this book a text on finite element analysis, although the publisher has an online chapter on FEA available. The reading level is challenging. Period. For an easier read, try Barber's "Intermediate Mechanics of Materials" or Cook and Young's "Advanced Mechanics of Materials." The bottom line is that this classic book, based on the 1931 text of Fred Seely of the Univ. of Illinois, is very useful, but it's not for the faint-hearted.

  4. I used Cook & Young (an adequate textbook) for my MS class on advanced strength (in '85) but soon after I started working I bought a copy of this one because it is better as a reference for professional stress analysts. This book explains what's going on behind the screen of all those FEA programs some reviewers seem to love so much. Well guys, how do you know what the answer means if you haven't a clue how the answer was developed, or what the question meant. Boresi/Sidebottom offers an excellent outline of solid mechanics from the strength of materials perspetive, as opposed to continuum mechanics or elastcity. The sections of theories of failure are very good.

  5. I realy like this book as a reference guide. I design powertrain parts for medium and light duty trucks and passcars. I typically use the formulas in this book to evaluate new designs and patent ideas before a great deal time and money is put into the program just to find out that it wont work. It is a great resorce for the first look at structural integerity and fatiuge life before investing in FEA.

1 comments about Mathematics for Machine Technology 5e.
  1. Temple College in Temple, Texas was awarded a $600K Grant to update the skills of the workers in industry. The math skills of the existing and new employees are exceptionally low. The difference between normal math as I call it and the aproach of the "Mathematics for Machine Technology" is that the students do not know where to apply the math that they have learned. With Mathematics for Machine Technology the aproach is applied mathmatics. This math is applied every day in the industry and now the math becomes functional. This is a great teaching aid to use by itself or to complement the math that is now being taugh. I bring measuring instruments such as verniers, caliphers, micromenters and others into the teaching enviroment to stress where the math is used.

  1. We received this book so fast we couldn't believe it, and that was with regular shipping. The book was brand new as advertised and the packaging in great shape.

  2. This is a fascinating account of the use and installation of mechanical systems integrated within buildings. Although the chapters seemed to be disoriented with one and another, the level of detail is comparable to a James Michener novel. I never really understood the plot line, and the tempo was slow at best, but this is bound to be a classic, read and re-read by thousnds of building officials across the USA. Enjoy!

3 comments about Water Supply and Pollution Control (7th Edition).
  1. The book is very easy reading and understandable, but it does not have answers to the work problems which is most important. It has a good balance of theory and applications.

  2. As teacher of an Environmental Engineering course (at Ariel Academic College, Israel) and as consulting engineer, I find the book useful, but... Some areas are weak: Population and demand prognosis, Resource planning, Economic evaluation and optimization, Advanced water treatment (membrane and ion exchange technologies, for example), Desalination of brackish and sea water. Each chapter has a well explained exercise, a very useful feature, but most are non metric. All in all, I know of no better textbook, and it is worth its money.

  3. The book was brand new and got here in three days. Cheaper than the bookstore and the wait was very short.
