1 comments about The Pantone Book of Color: Over 1000 Color Standards : Color Basics and Guidelines for Design, Fashion, Furnishings...and More.
- To make a story come alive you need details, and giving a correct color name instead of a general one adds to the story. For example, instead of saying she wore a red dress, you can say she wore a paradise pink dress.

2 comments about The Feynman Lectures on Physics Volumes 7-8.
- I found this lecture specifically hard to understand, because it was not design to be hear.
- just an extension to Alex Morgan's helpful reviews of the first six volumes. (the chapters are split to separate tracks now.)
Audio Volume 7: Feynman on Mechanics
Volume I, Chapter 19: Center of Mass, Moment of Inertia
Volume I, Chapter 20: Rotation in Space
Volume I, Chapter 21: The Harmonic Oscillator
Volume I, Chapter 24: Transients
Volume I, Chapter 25: Linear Systems and Review
Volume I, Chapter 40: The Principles of Statistical Mechanics
Audio Volume 8: Feynman on Light
Volume I, Chapter 26: Optics The Principle of Least Time
Volume I, Chapter 27: Geometrical Optics

2 comments about Colour: Why the World Isn't Grey.
- I discovered the first edition of this book as an undergraduate, and 10 years later I still possess the eight pages I photocopied. The writing is simple, and detailed enough to please a scientist. The line drawings are illustrate without clutter. The book is not light-weight reading, but skimps on the math so artists can read it w/o distraction.
- I just bought my third copy of this book because I keep giving it away. The book is full of interesting bits of information about color. It is somewhat technical, but not too heavy.

2 comments about Light and Color in Nature and Art.
- First and foremost a science textbook, Light and Color in Nature and Art covers the mathmatics and chemistry behind different lighting phenomena and how they are captured on film or canvas versus seen by the human eye.
While artists may be tempted to pick up the book for a deeper understanding of color theory or the science of film emulsion, the book is highly technical and does not really lend itself toward artistic development. Definitely not a necessary addition to the artists' bookshelf, but a worthy textbook for those interested in physics.
- One of the most informative books i have read. Note that this book was used for a college course at NYU in the early 80s... Full of optical principles some of which go slightly above the average artists head. Only read this if you remember your physics classes from high school quite well and can stand tons of text book reading. It took me months to read and digest all of this information. I had to re-read sections several times.

1 comments about Aberrations of Optical Systems (Series on Optics and Optoelectronics).
- Let me tell you something...there are NO SUCH THINGS as optical aberrations. They are a figment of this Welford's imagination! He made them up, and somehow convinced the world that they are a serious concern in imaging systems. All I know is, if I see Welford, I'm going to let him have it!

1 comments about Newton to Einstein: The Trail of Light: An Excursion to the Wave-Particle Duality and the Special Theory of Relativity.
- This book is clear and very interesting. It teaches the general idea of light and modern physics. It can be too simplistic at times for technically minded people.

3 comments about The Principles of Nonlinear Optics (Wiley Classics Library).
- This book is simply not very helpful as a textbook or as a reference. Shen seems to want to create a catalog of all nonlinear phenomena. He gives both too much (mathematical) and too little (practical) information on each subject. The mathematics does not really go beyond Bloembergen's little book.
- This book can be best appreciated when one already has a basic understanding of nonlinear optics, and wants to go beyond some hand waving pictures to delve into maths and subtleties behind the phenomena. That is, if you are just a nonexpert who wants to know what nonlinear optics is, this book might not be the one for you. But if you are a serious physics student who works in nonlinear optics or atomic physics, it's a good reference book.
- This book is best for physics students. Boyd's book is a good starting point. Shen's book offers a lot more physics insight.

2 comments about Spot's Favorite Colors (Spot).
- A very colorful, attractive children's book!
A child of any age will fall in love with SPOT! Very simple text, yet colorful illustrations! Enjoy...
- "Spot's Favorite Colors," by Eric Hill, is another fun volume in the series of educational books featuring Spot, a friendly little dog. In this book, Spot introduces the reader to various colors. The simple, cartoon-like illustrations feature a red bicycle, a blue bird, a green leaf, and other concrete items. Spot appears on every two-page spread. Overall, a good choice for the smallest children who are beginning to get interested in books.
