5 comments about Handbook of Petroleum Refining Processes.
- Handbook of Petroleum Refining PROCESSES. Robert A. Meyers(Editor
- This handbook provides short (10 pages per process typically) descriptions of widely used chemical processes. The level of detail is appropriate for anyone with a technical backround.
- I am interested in this particular technology and, naturally wondered if this was the book I was looking for. This book is a hardcover textbook from McGrawHill and contains clear, concise text with the right balance of general knowledge, technical discussion and charts/diarams. From only a knowledge of basic chemistry to advanced degrees in Sciece and Engineering, this book satisfies all! It is impecable in quality and content and, well worth the cost and, was delivered promptly.
- Of the roughly 30 books I've purchased and studied over the past year on related subjects, this is without question the worst. It is essentially a collection of several hundred extremely elementary articles, mostly written at newspaper level. All give the impression that the corporate patent attorneys were standing over the authors' shoulders to make sure they didn't say anything important. It is a black mark on McGraw-Hill's reputation. The main reason I didn't return it was that some of the articles provide useful references to the patent and professional literature. Of course, there are some useful data scattered throughout the haystacks, particularly for the business managers, but the book takes up far too much valuable shelf space. -F. David Doty, PhD.
- This book was clearly written by a process engineer not a production engineer. A previous handbook, "Petroleum Processing Handbook," by Bland and Davidson is a perfect contrast to this text. Bland and Davidson wrote about processing details only someone familiar with refinery and oilfield practices would know intimately. None of these details are shared in this handbook.
In contrast, Meyer's handbook covers all the new technology from a developer's point of view. The detail is excellent, complete with tables showing who is using this technology worldwide and what product breaks can be expected from its employment. Meyer's book is useless to anyone new to oil refining but may be useful in the library of an old hand.

4 comments about Pocket Guide to Flanges, Fittings, and Piping Data, Third Edition.
- I can not find a summery or table of content of this book so I can review it and comment on it! before I buy it! if that is possible please let me know in both caseses..!
- Another useful pocket guide for a wide range of professionals: process and mechanical engineers, designers, shop foremen, piping fitters and assemblers. A large number of data on flanges, piping, and fittings will certainly save a precious time looking for data in piles of different sources. It deserves to find its place among handful manuals to be at hand in every given point of time. Of course, one can not find in the book all information he might need. Nevertheless, this is the best source of data on the given subject I have ever come across so far.
- Sorry, this is not a review. I have already written a review. As a first reviewer, I was promised 50 bonus points. Please let me know what happened about that? Sorry for addressing you in this way, but I did not know other way to look for that.

- this book is nothing that couldn't be found in any piping book, and at $(...), it is not worth buying. IPT's Pipe Trades Handbook by Robert A. Lee is 10 times this book at $(...).

3 comments about Looking for Gold: The Modern Prospector's Handbook (Prospecting and Treasure Hunting).
- If you want some interesting history of gold discovery and the way things used to be done, this is the book for you.As for myself, I was looking for modern methods ( I didn't check the publication date of 1982) but did find the history lesson interesting. Not much mention in this book about electronic gold prospecting! Some of the camping suggestions are a bit old but with a little modern adaptation they still work.Overall an easy, interesting read.
- Too many times over the years I've encountered treasure hunters who didn't know how to pan gold, didn't know how to evaluate a watercourse, didn't know how to recognize gold if they saw it. If you just want an excuse to go out into the wilderness for a few days of fun and solitude, or if you plan to search for the Dutchman or the Lost Adams, this is a good book to begin your education.
- Herein lies some good basic information about many ways to find and get gold. Too bad it doesn't come with something to do the hard work for you!

2 comments about Water Well Drilling Troubleshooting Guide.
- This book is great for the do-it-yourself guy or homesteader. Gives helpful tips and tricks, not to metion how to make your own drill pipe and well screen.Logging your well, mixing drilling mud, blowing the well, plus much more.Book is written in a easy to understand way with money saving tips too. What to look for in portable drilling rigs and what works and what does not.
- I found the information presented to be relavent and understandable. I am, and have been, convinced that those cheap rigs for sale will not drill through rock or as deeply as they suggest. This author's assembly procedures should be adequate. With that said, I have yet to actually apply what he shows. While there are some grammar and spelling errors and it is not professionally bound, I wish other reviewers would give this guy a break. He's sharing his knowledge to help us save a few bucks.

5 comments about Elements of Petroleum Geology, Second Edition.
- Excellent book, easy to read for petroleum engineers yet quite insightful and nicely presented. A great deal of references are useful to direct further reading, this book became my preferred reference in petroleum geology. Highly recommendable.
Altamente recomendable.
- An excellent overview of petroleum geology from exploration, including commentary on gravitational, magnetic ,3d ,4d seismic ,mri and borehole loging methodology ,to drilling on and off shore worldwide , to leasing ,reservoir estimation ,and development(reservoir enhancement methodology ).Extensive bibliography is provided .While this book can serve the, deeply interested ,novice it will also serve ,well, students and young proffesionals in the various specialty fields of the petroleum sciences and industry.
- This is a great book for any scientist interested in gaining knowledge of petroleum geology.
- nice book for introduction. a little bit too much detail though.
I usually scan the book first and come back to read the details.
- This book is an easy to read and offers a full coverage of topics in Petroleum Geology. I used and use it, amongst others, as a first reference to refresh my memory, before returning to work as an exploration geophysicist.

- This handbook is an excellent reference for research and teaching from basic to advanced subjects in advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in Petroleum Engineering. I recommend this book to anyone involved in these matters. Giorgio E. O. Giacaglia, Ph.D., Yale `65.
- I got this book for my friend in India and it is a very good book. I paid around $50 in shipping, because I wanted it to be shipped sooner. They promised me that the book will reach to destination in 2-3 days (They know it is an international shipping address, they charged extra for this), but the product took a lot more time (nearly 15days) to be delivered.

2 comments about Introductory Mining Engineering.
- I purchased this book for a class. It is very informative. The way they explain things can be annoying at times. There are lots of references in the middle of paragraphs that are unecessary. There are also many times where they say "go to this book to find out about this subject". It's good if you actually want to go look for other books, but annoying if you are just reading this one. The graphs and pictures are very helpful. Overall this book explains the concepts well.
- I originally ordered this book over the SME website. However after doing so, I looked for the book on amazon and found it way cheaper. So I canceled the SME order and bought from Amazon. It's the same book and everything and was received via shipping in reasonable time as well. Great Bargain!
