1. I purchased and used this as an alternate textbook to Drever's Geochemistry of Natural Waters for a graduate level course in Chemical Hydrogeology that I took during completion of my Masters. This is very similar and almost identical to Drever's text. This is not a text that should be used for quantitative problem solving.

1. At Last a book that makes sense of the wide disparity of gem prices. Each type of gem is broken down into as many as 20 price ranges. By size, by color, by clarity. Want to know WHY there can be thousands of dollars difference in stones of the same type & size? Buy this book! This book is a reference book. Lot's of information & data, but few pictures. I found it more useful when used with "Gemstone Buying Guide", by Rene' Newmann. As a neophite, seeing the pictures in the Newmann book & referencing the valuation tables in this book really helped me evaluate what I was buying. If you buy from TV shows or over the internet, the more information you have, the better your chances are of not overpaying.



2. This book has a wealth of information presented in a concise manner. It contains cuts of gems , colours, sources ..etc, and does not limit itself to a particular gem. It even contains information about pearls, which I thought surprising. I only wish it was more updated, bcause I have had it for 2.5 years, and went to amazon to see if a third version was issued.



3. buy gems but before you spend money know what you are paying for. Excellent guide lines as to all the current new 'designer' gemstones, being introduced to the market. However, add factor for the increase in gemstones prices. When is the new edition to be printed.??



4. This type of book needs to be updated every year....especially with the economy we are living in.

3. I'm very happy that Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky becomes little by little known for the English speaking public. Although his "Biosphere" has been written over 70 years ago, even now its ideas remain fresh and actual. Indeed, the "Biosphere" provides a new level of thinking which permits us to consider Vladimir Vernadsky as a deepest naturalist of our century. And now I'm looking forward to the time when they will be translated and published his subsequent books - first of all the book on the noosphere: "Scientific thought as a planet phenomenon&quot.



4. It's hard to read this book without coming away with the impression of a powerful, original mind at work. Many of Vernadsky's ideas remain unappreciated to this day. In particular, the idea of life as a cosmological phenomenon, as a means by which energy is stored and transformed on a planetary scale, should become increasingly important as the science of astrobiology develops a rigorous intellectual basis.



5. I have had the honour of reading numerous papers by Vernadsky and find as always with genius, a hidden underlaying dimension of truth. The Biosphere is without hesitation a work of scientific spirituality as well as pure scientific genius! In a time when environmental destruction is ramp, and politically controled scientific stupidity proliferates, logical hope and science is at hand. With Vernadsky science personifies a bridge between life and its meaning. Science is indeed the search for truth, and Vernadsky biosphere is a must for youth!!!!!

1. There aren't many good things to say about this book (except that I got rid of it). You have to read it with the authors around you to get a clue what they're talking about.



2. I used this text for a one-quarter introductory Aquatic Chemistry course. The tableau method to solve equilibrium problems was positively received only by about half the students. Other texts used for this course are Pankow and Stumm and Morgan. (None of them were free of difficulties. Stumm and Morgan still serves as the best reference; but readability is a problem for an introductory course.) Morel does a good job in the treatment of metal ion kinetics.

1. NR Hanson is the first philosopher of science who claimed the observation is structured (by prior theoritical knowledge, and hence by language) and that many confuse the concept of sensation with that of observation. This is a great book for all those who study sciences, both social and natural, and history of and philosophy of sciences.
