5 comments about National Electrical Code 2008 Tabs.
- This product is clearly not a CD-ROM, they are tabs for the NEC 2008 book, but Amazon refuses to correct the listing, even after I notified them that it is wrong. YOU SHOULD NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Maybe if people don't buy it they will realize that their listing is wrong and disagrees with every other listing out there online.
- Yes the product title is incorrect, but the rest of the description is absolutely correct. It should be obvious to even the most casual observer that the tabs go into the book - as the "better together" section clearly shows. There are many other sources for these items that do describe them properly, but be prepared to pay more.
So here's the choice: Pay less and be infinitely irritated that Amazon made a small, insignificant listing error out of the billions of listings they have, or buy it for more money elsewhere, but be content in the knowledge that the description was correct.
Sheesh.
- I thought I was ordering a paperback book,I received a looseleaf book.I don`t know if the mistake is mine or a misprint.I do know that thr NEC Tabs are not a CD Rom, they are sticky back tabs that stick to the page to locate articles in the book quicker.I`m pretty sure I saw "paperback"and I don`t recall seeing "looseleaf".In either case bold print identifying paperback or looseleaf would be most helpfull.
- THESE TABS WILL TRULLY SAVE YOU A LOT OF TIME. THE HANDBOOK IS ONE OF THE THICKEST BOOKS I OWN AND THE TABS SURE MAKE IT A LOT SIMPLIER WHEN YOU NEED TO FIND A CERTAIN SECTION. NOT SURE WHAT THE OTHER REVIEWS ARE REFERENCING, SEEMS PRETTY CLEAR TO ME WHAT I BOUGHT.
- Tabs are well constructed, but if you use your code book a lot the thin pages might tear at the tab edges. I prevent this by applying a short strip of quality clear tape across the tab attatchment area.

5 comments about The Art of Electronics.
- The Art Of Electronics combines a lot of practical information about electronics that makes it a very useful reference text. I just wish they would update it. A 2007 version would probably get 5 stars.
- Perhaps it is rare to review a book after 20 years of owning the 1st and then the 2nd edition. This is an invaluable book for the practicing engineer or inventor or hobbyist. It eliminates much theoretical background and gets to practical implementation. You will find a wealth of practical tips that you will never find in standard engineering textbooks. This is a reference book that I have used for many years. However I agree with the last reviewer that it is in dire need of an update. Needless to say there are 10+ years of advancing technology some of which would be valuable to included. It is still quite a useful book however. At this point, if you are a perspective buyer you may want to wait for an update.
- It is obvious to some that this book would contain material for the design of electronics but everyone who has any interest in the subject could just as easily learn electronics by giving this a read and performing some of the practice problems. I wish this was my text book in college. The book is a very easy read as the authors keep the material light at first and build on the knowledge gained from earlier chapters. I would recommend to anyone who might be interested in the subject.
- Buy this book, complement it with Tietze & Schenke's book and you got a very respectable library covering semiconductor circuits. The T&S book will give you the solid circuit background on the mathematical modeling of semiconductor devices as circuit building elements and that EE's should need to consider in serious projects. This book does very well on the "intuitiveness" side of subjects but clearly lacks in providing an in-depth calculation basis on the subjects it covers. This might be OK for most uses but if you are working on mission-critical circuitry or on circuitry that must perform in extreme conditions you'll certainly need to use more math that you'll be exposed in this text.
In a nutshell, if you start with this book and then read T&S on the same subject you'll build a very solid base in EE.
- I've always been particularly fascinated by electronics, circuits, and the whole realm in general, and I bought this book with the hopes of expanding that interest into a constructive hobby.
I have had basic experience with electronics in the past, and taken classes in Differential Equations, Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra, Physics, even some intro Electrical/Computer Engineering courses (all a long time ago though), but WOWee is this book complicated. It's 1300 pages and EVERY SINGLE PARAGRAPH is filled with mind crushing complexity.
Maybe it's all just above me, but from a complete beginners standpoint, this was far too difficult a first step.
I'll try to forge ahead (the author says don't get discouraged by the complex Math), but I have a feeling I will understand less and less the more I read.

5 comments about Communicating Design: Developing Web Site Documentation for Design and Planning.
- I'm using this text for my CIS 3900 Business Web Architecture course at Western Michigan University. THis text is geared more towards the designers perspective of wed site creation, more so then development. It's an easy to read text, not full of overly complicated jargon, and tends to be a fast read with lots of helpful diagrams. For anyone looking to explore the dynamics of creating a web site to meet the needs of your client, it certainly is a good source of information and topics to consider during the process.
- It is for my Information Design class. I haven't used it yet, but it arrived on time and in good condition..
- Part of the value of this book is the promise that the author will provide templates and examples. This promise is worth zero. If you go to the companion website, there is a note from the author that says, essentially, "Ooops, so sorry. Got too busy." Just a tad unprofessional? I guess different people have different perspectives on such things.
Call me crazy, but one would think that the author would have had a whole stack of examples and templates BEFORE he wrote the book. How else would he know what documents are needed? Just a rhetorical question.....
The book itself is useful, don't get me wrong. I am just very disappointed in the lack of companion material. Other reviews very adequately cover the content.
In terms of practical help, AND downloadable templates, I vastly prefer Web ReDesign 2.0: Workflow that Works (2nd Edition) by Kelly Goto.
Kelly Goto's advice saved my tail when I was a newbie in the field (waaaaay back in the dark ages of the 20th century), and still has relevance for me today.
Web ReDesign 2.0: Workflow that Works (2nd Edition) (VOICES)
- This book is a great help for everyone who needs to improve documentation. It's on my desk and I recommend it 100%.
- If you are responsible for designing or redesigning web sites, this will help your understanding of the process. If you are wanting a user friendly web site, this is a must read. This book does not cover the software used but the process to follow so that the software used will be able to produce a quality web site.

5 comments about After Effects Apprentice (DV Expert Series).
- I wanted to be a step ahead of the rest before I entered into my first class dealing with after effects. This book did it in record time! I even finished the second book in the series before our first project. I learned the ins and outs and beyond, and I didn't know how to do anything with AE before hand. I HIGHLY recommend this book as well as it's counter-part!!!
- A hands on approach to learning Adobe After Effects software. An excellent choice for anyone who wants to jump right into After Effects and for those of us who learn the best by examples and using the software right away.
- Clear, methodical approach to training on this difficult application. I highly recommend the book! And--there's some video gems on the DVD too!
- I received this product pretty quickly and it was in very good condition!
Seller, keep up you good service! you got a 5 star from me!
- This book and media, After Effects Apprentice, was a great introduction to Adobe After Effects CS3. The tutorials were well thought out and taught solid AE skills.
Highly recommended!

4 comments about BlackBerry® 8800 & 8300 Curve Made Simple (Blackberry Made Simple Guide Book).
- This is the Must Have Bible for all BB users, new and old, The book coverage is exhaustive. If you are a beginner, this book will guide you out of the "jungle" effortlessly. If you are a old or power user, you will still find many useful tips. Buy it and be a BB power user! Over 600 pages for under $30, good value.
- I am a first time Blackberry user. I have the Blackberry Curve 8310. This book is EXTREMELY helpful. It describes in details everything that you would want to know about your Blackberry. I am very impressed. Martin and Gary (authors) did a very very good job with this book. If you purchase this book you will not be disappointed. I carry my book with me constantly to use as a reference since I am learning something new all the time about my Blackberry. Great book!!!
- It has been a while since I have used the Blackberry (about 3-4 years) and they have come a long way since this time. I wanted a resource that would allow me to hack my Blackberry a little more -- something beyond the basics. Ok, so this is a resource more geared towards the beginner. There is lots of good information organized in TAB format so that it can be easily accessed.
The only negative I found about the book (and my reason for giving it 4 stars) is the format choice. The fonts are amateurish at times and the margins are so wide that the book could have been created slightly thinner and taller. Perhaps I am being too picky.
- Very informative and easy to navigate. Great for new Blackberry users and experienced BB users as well.

5 comments about Pocket Ref.
- My husband has this book and uses it frequently. It is all kinds of useful information and conversion charts. My 14 year old thought this would be a good thing to keep in her backpack, it is like carrying an encyclopedia of math and science information packed away in a small book.
- The "Pocket Ref." is a must have for anyone that lives and breaths. The information in this book is invaluable. I highly recommend this book to anyone & everyone that has a desire to be prepared for any situation. This book has it all, from first aid, automotive, geology, carpentry& construction and even world zip codas. Anything you will ever want to know. This book would make a great gift for students from grade school to collage or any professional. It is a must buy, well worth the small price tag for what you get. Order one and see for your self. You wont be disappointed!
- A great reference for everyday encounters plus some bizzar data you would never have known about. I have checked many of the Calculations and have found them to be right on. Don't tell the publishers this is worth 4 times the price.
- I love the Pocket Ref. I've kept one in my toolbox and one in my backpack for the last five years.
It has a little information for anything you would need.
While it's obvious application is for handymen of all types, any college student will also find it invaluable. I check the pocket ref before any trip to the library. It has saved me many hours of work.
The only negative is the type size, if you need reading glasses, be sure to keep them with the pocket ref. Of course any larger type size and it wouldn't be the "pocket" ref.
- Probably the best collection of tables, conversion factors, material properties and countless other useful information ever assembled in a small package. Not just engineering data but many totally unrelated fields. Great "stocking stuffer". If it isn't in here, you probably don't need to know it.

5 comments about National Electrical Code 2008 Handbook (National Fire Protection Association//National Electrical Code Handbook).
- I bought this book recently as a gift for my husband who is a master electrician. He loves this book!!! Its a great reference because it provides pictures and blue prints on exaclty what the code is explaining. If your in this trade, you cannot live with out this book. Its definetely an updated version from the NEC 2005!
- The explainations aid with the technical aspects of the code.
If you are not already in the trade, it won't be much help.
Definatley not for the "do-it-yourselfer" or for the "jack of all trades".
It may give someone pause enough to hire a professional rather than attempting to do the work themselves.
Not a bad thing when it comes to electric work.
- es un buen libro tiene mucha ilustracion good book have interesting ilustracion to electricistas recomendado recomended
- I like the NEC because it is a guide for preforming electrical jobs in the workplace. If I don't know the local jurisdiction's preference, I can use the NEC and proceed from there with little fear of reprisal from those concerned authorities. I like the fact that there is a national standard that field techs can refer to for quick reference and guidance on job assignments. This book can save a lot of telephoning for answers to electrical questions.
- This is not a book for the average do-it-yourself. It is, however, the Bible for professional and apprentice electricians, engineers, professional inspectors, and construction professionals who design, build, maintain, and approve residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural electrical systems.
If you are just looking to remodel your bathroom you don't need to buy this book---though you may want to refer to it. If you are making a living in the construction trades, then this book is an essential part of your toolbox.

5 comments about National Electrical Code 2008 (National Fire Protection Association National Electrical Code).
- book came in great condition. Took a long time to get the book, but other then that was very satisfied.
- When I ordered paperback (bound as from publisher) and the book arrived looseleaf punched for a 3-ring binder, we didn't know until we opened it. I posted a review here to save others from the same problem but don't see it anymore. I know that Amazon will get a handle on all the different formats this book come in, and when tabs can be used. The info is available on the NFPA website so it should be easy.
I gave the 3-ring binder version to a buddy so now I want to buy AND RECEIVE the bound conventional paperback version but I can't get an answer from Amazon if the problem is corrected. I don't want to order again and get another looseleaf copy.
- I needed this book for my required continuing education units to renew my license in the state of Oklahoma. The price was right, and if I had thought about it sooner (ha, ha) I would not have needed second day shipping and saved even more. Great product, great price.
- This book is essential to install electrical installations. It basically was created by the National Fire Protection Agency it explains how to install electrical systems so that you do not burn down the house or building down that you wire. It does not teach you how to be an electrician, but it does give you the basic guidelines legal guidelines as to how to install electrical systems. Sporte1111
- The NEC has gotten so large, that the ability to lay it flat while researching is really nice.

5 comments about Photovoltaics: Design and Installation Manual.
- I took three courses (70 hours) of formal instruction in PV and each class required this textbook, which was economical because I didn't have to shell out for materials more than once. This book is written in straightforward language and keeps PV concepts clean and concise. I found the test problems at the end of each chapter to be an extremely helpful way to check my understanding of what I just read. It would be great if there were more of them and fewer charts in the appendix, because much of the latter could be found online. The illustrations were great and so was most of the supplementary material, such as the glossary, at book's back. I used this book to study for the NABCEP entry-level exam, which I just sat for. It was difficult, but would have been even more so had I not used this book to study with.
- This book was exceptionally well written and logically compiled. It's content is backed up by comprehensive and clear diagrams. A thouroughly researched ensemble that makes it a benchmark for educational purposes too.
- To be fair, I have not read this book. Why 5 stars? The book is a for-profit venture by the author, so recovery of time, effort, & energy is important for revenue reasons. So why write this review? After spending nearly 12-18 hours perusing AMAZON's book list on solar energy and photovoltaic systems, I was frustrated! None of the reviews on any single book seemed to be convincing enough to make me want to buy. For instance, none of the reviews mention how the books address the National Electric Code, specific wiring and disconnect installation information, electrical and other safety hazards, inspection issues, etc. For a DIY'er, these books seemed a waste of time, never mind the fact that some reviewers insisted they actually DIY'ed just from the book. It then occurred to me that dozens of resources that I had used over the past 10 years - with the exception of 2007 due to extenuating circumstances - many resources are available for free from our fantastic .GOV, .ORG, and .EDU sites like Sandia Nat'l Labs, NREL, NMSU, and CA.GOV. Folks, before you start buying books on PV left & right, be smart and leverage what your fine tax dollars paid for! I have to admit - I believe it's just stupid searching for good PV technical, installation, and detailed literature on a For-Profit Bookstore when so much is already available online for Free. Folks, use your head - our government and academic labs pioneered this from federal tax dollars. Hence, much of it is public domain! (REPLACE all "?" with "." in the following website links.) nabcep?org nmsu?edu/~tdi/index?html photovoltaics?sandia?gov and energy?ca?gov - just to name a few! Of course, if you're just not Internet savvy, not an engineer/analytical A-type personality, and highly resourceful, plus you'd rather prefer to kill trees buying a book instead of leveraging online resources that are 100 times more than what's on AMAZON, and most likely don't have the wherewithal to DIY, go ahead. It will be amazing to see how many are simply duped by the thousands of new "get rich quick" companies and businessmen entering the renewable energy markets. *** Don't get me wrong - spending a few $100 yearly on many good books is not a problem for me. But when I've already paid tax dollars for outstanding American research, development, and "free" public domain resources - AND they are apparently waiting for me to simply find and use, well NOT to do so is plain un-American!
- Given all the raves this book got I was pretty disappointed. I was expecting a comprehensive design and install manual. What I got was PV 101.
It's not bad if you have no background in the field and want a basic intro but this manual sorely lacks in depth material on the subject. I am a contractor looking to expand into PV installations. This book bare got my feet wet.
- There is no such thing as a perfect book, but I have read all of those other books on solar. None of them tell you how to setup a system. This one does. It comes as close to perfect as you they get.

5 comments about Build Your Own Electric Vehicle.
- The book is practically a collection of mind maps of various decision trees and other concepts... The text probably is adequate for designing a decent conversion. It's pretty useful if you don't mind the author's quirks.
- I liked this book a lot, it reads well, it provides the "how to" information in the title but also a lot of background information. The only real defect I can find in it is the date of last update (1993). Suprisingly, most of what is said is still valid, but there are some things missing which did not exist then or were not mature enough. Some recommendations actually got even better: the "AC propulsion" system, which is already much praised in the book, went on to even greater success in the Tesla roadster. Just get someone (the author, if still active, or someone else) to update it for 2008 new technologies.
- In general I found this book of value as a technical reference volumne but was extremly disappointed in the bias shown toward hybrid vehicles and larger cars of all types and the attitude that EV'S are for short shopping runs and you should use an ICE for anything else. This attitude has been what has slowed the uptake of EV's and kept the creation in the hands of mainly gifted amateurs. Yes I certainly will be using the formulae in the book but will be looking beyond the USA most of the electrics and electronics for my electric touring car
- This book was written in the early 90's. It's so out of date that it's almost usless. Whish I had know before I spent $$$.
- I read the book because I was interested in converting a car. At times, it became waaay more technical than I bargained for. But it gave me the confidence to go ahead with my project.
I later learned that what I wanted to build was going to be so expensive, that I would not be able to afford it. This led me to see the book on a different light. For example, I would have liked it to be more specific info on the ranges and speeds one could get with a certain system. I did not find that... maybe I skipped it when I blew off the extremely technical info.
But other than that I thought the book was AWESOME. I would not recommend anyone to start a project like this without first talking to people who have done it already. (That is how I found out that I was being too ambitious).
I have not converted a car yet, since I decided to wait until batteries get better so I can get the range and speeds I need. But when the time comes, I going to pick up this book again. This puppy is NOT going to the used-book bookstore.
