5 comments about The Fiberglass Manual: A Practical Guide to the use of Glass Reinforced Plastics.
- Very informative. I'm planning on building a house and some parts of the roof are very curvy. I needed to learn how to make and use fiberglass so I could make forms for the curved section. Before I read this book, I didn't know the first thing about Fiberglass. Now I'm getting very good at it.
- The title for this book is not the correct one. I wanted to buy a book which not only gave me an introduction of the field but gave details and hints of methods. The book gives you a very very general picture of EVERYTHING it talks about. Does not show anything practical except the general idea and theory of the wet lay up and other methods. FIBERGLASS & COMPOSITE MATERIALS - by Forbes Aird is a superior book in this aspect of showing methods, steps, pictures of steps, detailed descriptions of how the shop should be on all aspects from garage shop to industrial size shop and most importantly gives you direct advice and hints based on experience and examples. If the title changed it would be a good but outdated book although I doubt it will be corrected since nobody would buy it.
- If your just starting out this is not much help. but combined with other books it can be very heplful.
- although a great academic thesis on fiberglass and all its theory and its compositional attributes of high polymerisation... bla bla bla.. OK I was lost too throught the entire book. This is for someone that masters plastics and wants that higher edge. For beginners it really dont tell you how to start, how to proceed and what really is that you looking for.
- TOTALLY MISLEADING title.
This book is NOT a manual or practical guide.
If you want to learn how to do fibreglassing, BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

3 comments about Flow Measurement Engineering Handbook.
- Highly detailed in every way. Complete equations suitable for computer programming. In fact, Rosemount and other companies refer to this handbook exclusively. The index is the best way to use this book. As handbooks go, it is easy to use and an excellent compilation of vendor information as well as original R&D information. There are a few quarks in the equations for integral orifices, but the actual errors are negligable. I got improved equations from Rosemount. The only reason why I did not give 5 stars is that it takes some time to dig information from the handbook. It's all there, but, it takes time to digest it. You must have this book if you encounter instruments, particularly, flow metes, during your work. You must have this book!
- I needed this book and I needed it in a hurry. It shipped within 24 hours and I received it in less than 24 hours after it shipped.

2 comments about Energy from Biomass: A Review of Combustion and Gasification Technologies (World Bank Technical Paper).
- Not useful for the on the spot production of or viability of methane production. I was looking for something that would help with production methods and viability study for such for on site agriculture conversion to gas!
This is just a viability study for large production facility's!
- In my view, this is a great introductory monograph to the area of biomass-energy conversion technologies. Its most striking feature is their conciseness and comprehensiveness. This book focuses on the conversion technologies of biomass into electricity and heat via a combustion and gasification technology. It does not include materials on biofuels and bio-refinery (e.g., bio-diesel, bio-ethanol, etc.) and anaerobic digestion technology but you can find these topics in other texts (e.g., Brown, 2003; Klass, 1998). If you are interested in using biomass to generate electricity and heat, this is probably a great intrduction to the topic. This book covers the following key topics:
1. Biomass characteristics essentially to be used as fuels
2. A concise introduction to the theory of combustion and conversion efficiency
3. Combustion technologies
4. Gasification technologies
5. Pros and cons of these technologies
6. Financial and economic analysis of small-scale biomass power plant projects on combustion and gasification technologies (1-5 MWe range)
This semi-technical monograph is highly readable and I would recommend it to both technical and non-technical readers who want a good introduction to the field.

5 comments about A Consumer's Dictionary of Cosmetic Ingredients.
- Do you really know what's in your favorite face powder? The list of chemicals you rub on your face daily may shock you.
- This book is great for understanding the products you are putting on your body. It is also a helpful guide to understandin products that are/are not earth friendly. It is very surprising to know some very harmful products are acutlly used in skin care products and they actually age your skin verses doing the intended opposite. It's important to know the truth rather than to accept the slogan stated on the packaging.
- If you are a human, and use lots of cosmetics/cosmeseuticals/hair care products/face care products/body care products you should have a copy of this book, as if it were the dictionary.
This book is incredibly helpful and the writer is VERY knowledgeable. She explains literally everything you need to know to make healthy, and/or organic choices in your everday life.
It's a great gift for anyone who cares about what's going in or on their bodies.
- I am an online retailer of fine skin care, hair care and cosmetic products. Unfortunately, it seems one has to be a chemist now to determine what exactly is going into these products, and hence onto your skin ! Some of the ingredients are truly frightening....lead, mercury, formaldehyde to name a few. Many of the ingredients which are currently approved for use in the United States are already banned in the European Union. It is only with plain language reference materials such as provided by Ruth Winter in this book that the consumer, and the retailer, can be forewarned about the products they are buying.
BRAVO !!!!!
- I am in school to become a certified Esthetican and this dictionary is extrememly helpful in supporting my product knowledge. It is definitely user friendly.

3 comments about Environmental Impact Assessment.
- At this moment, Environmental Impact Assessment process and approaches are in a constant change, requeriments are increased as well as needs for to get a good EIA. Many scientifics are trying to get a holistic vision of the world affected for any project in order to get the best and close approach for interprete it. This book shows a complete evolution of the EIA business as well as avoid new interpretations and applications following the needs and background of the professionals that want use it.
- At over hundred bucks, this book is not for everybody. But it is the best all-in-one resource for conducting environmental impact assessments. The book is crammed full with tables and diagrams on everything from examples of project-effects interaction matrices to "A Comparison of Four Habitat Evaluation Methods." Besides introductory and general how-to-do-an-EIA material, chapters cover air, surface water, soil/groundwater, noise, biological envt., cultural envt., socioeconomic envt, visual impacts, and public participation. The writing has a no-nonsense engineering flavor. Not for casual reading, but as a resource/reference for students and professionals this is a high quality but overpriced book.
- This book is incredible, I only had to read a few chapters of it, and I have already finished the book. I have loved reading this book for one of my classes. This is the kind of information that I want to deal with when I am finally finished with school.

1 comments about Handbook of Petrochemicals Production Processes (Mcgraw-Hill Handbooks).
- This book promises a wealth of information for the process engineer interested in Petrochemical Processes. While it does contain a certain amount of useful information, useful for example as introductions to undergraduate Chemical Engineering courses on various of the topics covered, the information presented is not particulary in-depth. Some of the latter chapters on polymerization processes read a bit like the technical information you can find on company web sites rather that as chapters... OK, but not great.

1 comments about Organic Chemistry of Explosives.
- This book provided the comprehensive background information on several explosives that I needed for a seminar and was unable to find packaged so conveniently elsewhere. Many other books shy away from publishing synthesis details for "security reasons". While a valid concern, I'm glad to find scholarly information out there and that the world hasnt become so paranoid about information as to "ban" useful books like this. The book will typically provide several syntheses (at least for the most important explosives like RDX) and inform the reader of which are industrially used, and which are more appropriate for lab or theoretical stufy. A basic understanding of organic chemistry is needed for this book, but nothing too extensive. The overview chapters early on are good refresher info.

1 comments about Biosignal and Biomedical Image Processing: MATLAB-Based Applications (Signal Processing and Communications, 22).
- This book assumes that you have both a prior knowledge of Matlab and of signal processing concepts. It spends the first three chapters going over measurement and transducer systems, basic signals and systems, and classical methods of spectral analysis. Even though these chapters are meant to be a quick review, there are some Matlab implementations of basic algorithms in each chapter. Chapter four introduces digital filters and shows Matlab implementations of both IIR and FIR filters. A special treat of chapter four is that some time is spent introducing the reader to the Matab signal processing toolkit. Now that the basics of digital filtering have been introduced, more advanced signal processing techniques are tackled. These include modern methods of spectral analysis and also time-frequency analysis using such methods as the Wigner-Ville distribution. Again, in all cases, the equations are concise, the prose is very accessible, and all concepts are demonstrated using Matlab programs. There is a separate chapter devoted to the wavelet transform and to its use in filter banks, denoising, and feature detection. Quite frankly, I found this chapter far more accessible than entire books that have been devoted to the subject, especially if you are interested in getting to the heart of the matter and using wavelets to perform a task. Two more chapters round out the section of the book on general signal processing techniques- one is about adaptive filters and another on principal component analysis. The final four chapters of the book concern themselves with image processing and Matlab, and the Matlab image processing toolkit in particular. You should already be familiar with the basic concepts behind image processing, and as with the signal processing portion of this book, the point is to have a single text with all of the relevant signal processing techniques briefly described along with Matlab code for the purpose of biosignal processing. However, even if you are not a biomedical engineer, and I am not, you should find this book helpful in the general sense of producing implementations of signal processing concepts. This book would also be helpful for biometric professionals since it goes into great detail on how to turn biological features into measurements that can be processed and compared.
